If there were 0 stars, I would give it to this hotel! I had a cheesecake one night from room service and got food poisoning. The hotel simply ignored it! Will never ever stay here again. Advise you to stay away as well.

The Fairmont San Francisco is a perfect hotel for those who envision their SF vacation to be full of historic charm and the clanging bells of cable cars.

The view from my room featured Alcatraz on the left and Coit Tower on the right. The Cable Car museum, Grace Cathedral and a cable car stop are all within a 5 min walk. It's very convenient if you're there to tour the city.

The rooms are comfortable and fairly large by city standards. No dressing table in the larger deluxe room was a bummer but it had a full tub and separate shower.

Compared to other Fairmont hotels, service was not as good. It was typically San Francisco, in that the staff were mostly indifferent in their service.

Went to the piano bar for some late evening coffee. The hotel is an astoundingly beautiful living museum with hand-carved stone and the historic atmosphere of a grand yesteryear. However, disorganization reigned in greeting and seating. A patron incomprehensibly had her feet up on a chair. Since we were just getting coffee, the bus staff had to do double duty while the waitresses mined the other tables it wasn't crowded nor did it seem like a terribly demanding chore. Not sure, but the beautiful surroundings were filled with a smell of either a dirty carpet or broiled fish. It gave the hallowed surroundings a degraded, atmosphere of lost glory. Management has a lack of priorities and pride. Unable to comment on the food, but profit seems to take priority customer experience. A dreadful squandering of a potentially world-class experience.

Great

We just got engaged and the fairmont was so sweet and kind!! They upgraded our room and sent a bottle of champagne to congratulate us. What a wonderful place to celebrate the most momentous day!!

The history and the architecture of this building says it all. I was fortunate to have attended a conference at this hotel and was in awe of everything. This hotel is so opulent it makes you feel important just by stepping in the front door. Every detail was not left undone or untouched.

Beautiful hotel with friendly staff. If you can afford a room I would certainly advise staying a few nights.
I was here for a conference so didn't get a chance to eat at the restaurant but the conference buffet was wonderful, especially the poppy seed cookies.
The hotel itself was wonderfully tended to and you can tell they take pride in there digs.
Would definitely stay here in the future.

Spectacular views of the city combine with immense luxurious rooms that make you feel like royalty. The beds are silky, soft and smooth. I sent my grandparents here for their 45 wedding anniversary and it is a memory that they will always cherish. The staff went the extra mile of provide flowers and chocolate each day and the manager always greeted them kindly. Truly A+++ service and amenities.

This was our first stay at a Fairmont hotel and it by far exceeded expectations. The hotel is beautiful and in a great location. Staff is friendly, rooms are nice and the amenities are just right. We even enjoyed the cocktail hour. We will definitely seek out Fairmont hotels for future trips!

$1700+ for 3 days got me a nice hotel name, with a low budget Marriott room. Could have stayed at Embassy suites, for $550, got free breakfast and snacks, and enjoyed San Fran just the same. Bummer. Wanted a special get away. Got a big bill with limited thrill. At check in, I gave my wife's cell number because our room was not ready. When she got text that the room was ready. I finished up paying bill at restaurant. Came to find her being rejected at the counter for our hotel key, because of security and her name not being on the card that was used to hold room. WTF? She showed ID, she showed text, and yet still recieved push back. After speaking to a manager, only to hear about how "transiants" visit the hotel so security is required... We immediately regretted our stay. Needless to say... Amex Membership Rewards is also going to be told about the experience, as they recommended the hotel and I used my hard earned points to assist in our trip. Sad. So sad! It's time to realize when you are failing your guests.

Excellent hotel, with friendly staff and beautiful rooms and bathrooms. Spectacular views of the Golden Gate Bridge and rest of the SF bay, including Bay bridge dancing lights at night were a huge plus. The Tonga room with its indoor thunderstorms, band in a boat and delicious food was a treat. Highly recommend the hotel.

Lovely old school hotel on the top of Nob Hill. Rooms are nice and updated with some gorgeous views of the city and the bay. Tonga room downstairs has live music some nights each week. And wedding we attended there recently in the Venetian room was gorgeous.

EXCELLENT! I enjoyed my stay at your hotel a week ago. I thanked your staves for welcoming me nicely. I felt relieved when I stayed here for two days. The price was so friendly to the pocket, so there's nothing to worry about. You guys really made me very happy. Thumbs up! You're highly recommended to all!

Great lobby, very professional staff. Always helpful and friendly.
Not the cheapest one but worth every night to stay at.

We went to the Tonga room inside the Fairmont. I really enjoyed myself. It was the first time I've ever been, so the vibe was very new to me. Even though it is a bit tacky, I felt like it was a very unique place. The live music was good, but the non-live music was a little quiet. We got a large drink that is marketed as big enough for two people to share, but I felt like it was small given the price. Yummy drinks though

Impeccable customer service. Everyone we interacted with was warm, polished, and promptly handled any of our requests. Room service dinner was truly delicious (though you can skip the prawn cocktail, definitely hit up the French onion soup) breakfast entrees were adequate (though buffet looked great) and Tonga Room was a lovely place to enjoy tiki drinks in pineapples. Our room was well appointed, very comfortable bed, high-end toiletries and an amazing view over the cable car line which lent a nice touch of San Francisco.

The California alarm Association had their fall convention at the Fairmont this week. We stayed nearby the Westin st. Francis however we had meetings and dinner at the Fairmont. It's a beautiful hotel. The problem was that only one elevator worked in a certain section of the hotel. The elevators were down the entire time. It was very inconvenient for people hearing products it was hard to get into the exhibition room. It needs some work to improve fully.

I have a hard time liking anyplace in San Francisco that charges for wifi. The room was expensive enough, and the two nights I stayed there were interrupted by the maid service knocking on the door at 8 in the morning both mornings...If you have the time and money, find a better value with as much amenities and without the annoyances I experienced here. So what that past presidents stayed here, this place is not a good deal unless your employer is copping the bill I reckon" !

Went to the Tonga Lounge at the Fairmont Hotel in San Francisco to have some drinks. Not a long wait for the line to get in and the cover charge was minimal. There are a variety of specialty cocktails that are served as there was no full bar that I noticed. The drink I had was good - a lychee martini. Live music was being played while we were there - great variety of music to add the island themed ambiance. Overall a good time .

I'm surprised by the recent rise in hotel bills in San Francisco, but in that sense it's a gorgeous rank. It seems that President Obama will be staying there, and I am overwhelmed by the luxury of the entrance. The hotel itself has been renovated and kept clean, but in reality it is an old type of hotel, and the breakfast and afternoon tea in the lounge on the lobby floor are only expensive, so I do not recommend it. You can see that it is for seniors when you look at boutiques and other stores on the first floor as well. Later, when I learned that there was an islander entertainment dining bar called Tongaroom, I really regretted it.

Pretty fancy place I suppose - we just went and saw Toni of Toni and Tenille and maybe had a drink or something. She was really good singing old hits from the 40's. We thought my mother would enjoy it and she seemed to. That was about 30 years ago I think.
