People working shop are ok with customers but this place has some bad policies. Go to the UVU Adventure center for cheaper prices. the uvu adventure center ALWAYS has a deal goin on with all around better rates than what is at outdoors unlimited.

Decent rentals, but terrible customer service. You can call in and hear one thing, then show up in person and hear the exact opposite. There is not consistency, which shows they lack decent management and solid enablement to do their jobs consistently well.

They have great boats, NRS quality. But they miscounted how many paddles we needed (forgot to take into account the guides) and we were short. Also, make sure you ask to use the big barrel pumps. They gave us a tiny electric pump and four mini pumps to pump up 9 6-person rafts. It took us an hour and a half to get them inflated, and most of the boats were still flat and folded in the rapids, dumping half of the passengers.
Good service.

I will definitely use these guys again! They were personable and friendly and helped me get the least expensive option for what could have been a pretty expensive rental. Their equipment was mostly clean and easy to use. I'm a fan!

I was there today and got helped with my bottom bracket! Great help, they know of what they are talking about. And if they don't know, they will get you with someone that knows about your problem and won't disappoint you.
Also as customers we need to explain well our problems, their staff is well experienced on bikes but that doesn't mean that they will know your bike and your riding style (if you are rough on it or super careful)like you do. So don't expect them to understand what's wrong with your bike if your explanation was something along the lines of, the "little thing" that holds this "big round part" has a weird sound. Make sure your point get across by using the right words and names. This will improve your experience and satisfaction.

Great place to rent any and all outdoor equipment. They have full fledged repair bike and ski shop. These guys can do some really good repair work on your equipment and try to keep the price reasonable. I will be a back whenever I am in Provo again!

I reserved 2 paddle boards a week in advance for the 4th of July. The morning of I was called and told my reservation did not go through, although they apparently got it and were able to call and tell me this. No worries though we called Epic Recreation in Provo. They have paddle boards available cheaper. Would not recommend BYU Outdoors Unlimited.

I noticed in some other reviews people were dissatisfied with the service that Outdoors Unlimited provides. Unlike them, I love this store.
The rental and shop labor prices are VERY low. I wouldn't be surprised if they actually don't make money on their repairs. This place is definitely not out to make a profit. They are owned by BYU, after all.
The employees are very fun-loving and helpful. They'll let you use their tools, and maybe even help you do small repairs for free, depending on what it is or if you are nice to them.
Yes, the bicycle maintenance can seem bad, but what do you expect when you bring in a Low-quality bike and expect it to run like a high-quality racing machine?
Yes, the shop may not seem that professional. But honestly, the employees are young college students. Give them a break.
For what it is (a bike/ski/sports rental, repair, and retail shop) and for the great prices (200 dollars for a used fiberglass canoe? Heck yeah!) I give this establishment 5/5 stars.

I rented a three-man tent and sleeping pad from them for an overnight trip - it was painless, a good price, and good gear! Checking it in was just as easy. They had plenty of info about how long I could rent it for and when I had to have it in by (24 hours with a one hour grace period, and Sundays don t count as a renting day). I really enjoyed renting from them!

I dropped my bike off on a Saturday, and after I called them twice during the next week it was finally prioritized on Friday.

They replaced both of my tubes and both pedals, and the actual labor took less than 1.5 hours totaling $40. The work was good, but a 6 day wait was kind of long. I wonder if I hit the season rush or if they were understaffed?

The worst customer service. I asked for an inflatable paddle board (to fit in my car) and they brought out an already inflated one. Which is no big deal, but they just stood around and watched me deflate it and roll it up even though I was in a short white dress. And I was in a rush. And then no one helped me carry the board, pump, fins, life jackets, or paddle to my car. Also kind of expensive. Other renters charge $20-25 and they charged me $30 and then $7 for an extra life jacket.

Overall : bikes ok, bike maintenance terrible, customer service absolute joke.

Rented a road bike for my wife over the weekend, within the first couple of miles tube pinched a flat. The side wall of the tire clearly had been no good to begin with. I should have checked the tires before leaving when I initially left the shop but I assumed an outdoors rental shop would have that covered. When I took the bike in hoping to get an exchange, not only was that not offered but right off the get go the first employee I spoke with talked down on me like I had no clue and told me I would have to pay to replace their mistake. Next employee more polite but still no common sense on customer service. Ended up paying to replace an old tire that needed replaced before I took the bike out. Recommend looking somewhere else for outdoor rentals if you care at all about being treated with respect.

Minor repair jobs are adequate, but the customer service is lazy and careless. I would recommend checking out any of the other bike stores in the Provo area before resorting to this one. Canyon Bicycles Inc. on Center Street does good work -- go there.

BYU Outdoors Unlimited is willing to work with you. Sticking with them was a great idea. My bike is fixed and now I'm out on the roads again! They fixed my rear freewheel, replaced my chain, and aligned my derailleur in about 15 minutes! Super Fast.

The equipment was fine but we weren't able to get it back by 6 so we called and he said there would just be a small extra charge to bring it back the next day but then they charged us the full amount of another rental. Just a little surprised since he made it sound like it wouldn't be that way.

My hiking bag broke and the company that repairs it is all the way back home in Canada. Bad position for me to be in. They said they don't normally fix bags but went completely out of their way to see if a fix was possible. We managed to solve the problem and save me a major hassle on all further hikes for my trip. Thank you so much!

I love renting skis at Outdoors. Their staff is friendly and service is quick. Plus their prices are about half what they are at any other rental shop and I usually get skis in nicer condition than when I have rented from other places that charge more.

We had requested a rental the day before and when we arrived everything was fine and good. When it came to the bike trailer for our son, they brought it out disgusting and dirty with bits of food all in it and a strong odor. I asked for something to clean it with and began wiping it down as best I could. Then we come to find out they didn t have the piece to have it actually connect to the bike. So after I cleaned it for them we didn t even leave with anything because we couldn t go anymore without our son. Very bad customer service. How could you not check everything properly to know in fact you could say to your customer yes, we can rent this to you. Now it is too late to even go out and find a replacement very upset.

On a vacation, visiting Utah, I needed to rent three Mountain bikes. This was the only store nearby that was able to get me three on short notice. But, I should've read the reviews first. When reserving, the guy seemed nervous that he would be able to get one of the possible rentals fixed in time. The next morning when I picked them up, I waited for one of them to be returned by another customer. They did no mechanical inspection of the recently returned bike. Five hours into my mountain biking day with my sons, the rear axle of one of the bikes had come unscrewed, locking up the rear tire as my son descended the trail. This shop does not use a quick release axle, so even if I found the missing nut, it would have required allen-head tools (which of course I have a full set of on the mountain with me for my rental bikes). So, five hours into our Saturday/Sunday rental, we were walking down the mountain with a useless bike. They had informed me that normal wear and tear was covered, but any unusual damage to components would have to pay for the cost of repair. Monday morning, some young mechanic trying to be front-line warrior for the corporation paying him an hourly wage made me argue with him about whether getting my rental fee refunded as a result of their faulty rear hub was justified, saying to me, "Well, you used the bike." Are you serious right now, lad? After much back and forth, he left me waiting forever and eventually and apparently talked to a decision-maker and reluctantly helped me with my refund. But, after a frustrating and wasted weekend walking down the mountain because of your quality control and equipment failure, making me argue with you about the axle and a small plastic handlebar bracket that definitely is not going to cost you $30 to replace, on a Monday morning, was very very very poor service.

Outdoors Unlimited is a terrific place to rent equipment and buy gear at their end of season sale. The workers are knowledgeable and can often give tips about local attractions. Rental costs are a little on the expensive side, but still fair.

We had one day in Provo and wanted to do some mountain biking and maybe go swimming. The staff were very friendly and informative. One of the girls there actually helped us plan our entire day. We biked at some canyon place up the road which was pretty fun and then went to a local spot where we were able to swim and cool off. The mountain bikes were solid and it was a great experience. Thanks again!

Do not rely on their online reservation. I reserved gear weeks ahead and confirmed the day before just to find out that their computer system doens't keep track of who picks up and drops off, so a guy who reserved his after me, was given priority to keep for 2 days even though I had reserved mine prior. SUPER DISAPPOINTED! Ruined the birthday plans I had made for my daughter! Horrible customer service and no compensation was made for future rentals or discounts!!!

Very hit or miss.

Very hit or miss.

The good: great selection of everything you could want to have a good time outdoors and very good prices.

The bad: if you decide to come here, don't do it when you're on a tight schedule. The employees have no sense of urgency and their processes aren't very efficient. I've rented from them multiple times and I don't think I've ever been in and out in less than 30 minutes, even just to drop off a rental. The employees work incredibly slow, rentals are usually not ready to go (referring mainly to bikes) and you'll have to rent, pick up, and pay with different employees at different registers for each step. I've also had to walk out with something other than what you rented twice since they double booked something or are too lax with their return time policy and people don't return gear on time (I realize that's out of their control).

Employees were not really friendly, but still got your needs taken care of. I would highly encourage their policies to be put up on visible places. Unfortunately, I had a terrible near-death experience with this place s lifesavers. I rented a lifesaver from them before going tubing at the Provo Canyon. I had an accident in the river that threw me off my floating tube. As I entered the river I thought the life saver would pull me up in the water (since the current made it hard to stand on the rocks after falling off). The life saver did not even slightly pull me up from underwater and was drowning in the river. Because my life saver was big it limited my ability to swim. In the desperate moment of being dragged by the currents, I took the life saver off and was better off swimming by myself, although I did get very injured because of the lack of a FUNCTIONAL life saver. This place s rentals are really old and I will never trust this place again. My life was put on jeopardy by trusting the BYU Outdoors Unlimited rentals. Management will be contacted.

Don't go there for quality bike work. They messed up on all three different things I asked for (brake bleed, new derailleur cable, and hub rebuild).

1. On the brake bleed, after they did it, the brakes were filled with bubbles and were completely gone with any uphill riding on the bike. The worst part about that was that when I went back in to ask them to re-bleed them, they argued with me and tried to tell me that that was normal. They finally did it correctly (they had to do it THREE TIMES!) and now my brakes are working 100%. But to convince me that it's okay not to have brakes after I go up any hill was extremely dangerous. Had I crashed, they could have been liable.

2. They also redid the shifter cable on my XX1 derailleur and didn't even thread the cable through correctly, I left the shop without checking their work and when I got to the trailhead, realized that it didn't work and I had to buy another cable.

3. The rear hub - they said they cleaned it and fixed it, but it rode exactly the same or a bit worse as before. I just had a friend look at it and he said it has a bent axle. He was shocked that bike mechanics weren't able to catch that.

I'll never go there again, unless it's to rent a tent or something else like that. Definitely won't go there for bike stuff.

I was in a bind and my normal rental place was booked. The equipment was clean and ready to go, but it required an online reservation and then three phone calls to confirm the reservation- just seemed like a complex system. Not super great customer service, I had to deflate the rafts before I took them out, on my own and when I asked about payment one worker said "oh, sorry, I forgot you were here". Pretty understaffed for a busy Saturday but the two workers in the shop were doing the best they could, which was just okay. I will still be calling UVU OAC to rent before I rent from other shops again.

Really like having this nearby in Provo. You can rent a lot of gear for whatever outdoor activities you can do in Utah. They have lots of bike accessories available for purchase also. Employee turnover is pretty high because it's run by BYU students so service can be inconsistent but it isn't too bad.

The customer service at BYU Outdoors Unlimited left much to be desired. I had to approach the employees many times and ask for their help as I had never visited the store before and they acted as if I should have known what I was doing and were not friendly. When the time came to check out, the two employees at the computer continued socializing for about one minute until they decided to help us. We had planned to use our starving student card to get a discount and when I tried to use it I was told that it was not valid and the deal with the starving student card hadn't been valid for about two years (even though my card is from 2017). If there is a discrepancy between the Starving Student card company and BYU outdoors unlimited, it should be handled between these two entities and not with the customer. I also have a friend who got a starving student card just to use it a BYU outdoors unlimited and subsequently was told on the same day that I went that she could not use it either. In my opinion, this card should be honored as long as it is printed on the starving student card as it is not the fault of the customer. I hope that these issues can be resolved soon, as the equipment worked great and the price is reasonable. I will give this store another chance only because it fills my needs, not because of the customer service I received.

After a poor experience at another local bike store (exceptionally poor customer service, and $75 bill for a bike that was still un-ride-able), Outdoors Unlimited was a breath of fresh air. Unlike the previous shop where I was ignored by all employees on the floor, I had prompt service (and an employee who had been on the phone with another customer even apologized for not getting to me quickly) , a 20 min discussion with a tech about my bike's problem and what had already been done to fix the problem, 3 follow up phone conversations with techs and--as the coup de gras--at least 2 techs and THE BOSS rode my bike to diagnose the issue. The previous bike shop techs didn't even bother to ride my bike to see if it was fixed. I rode my bike for the first time today, and it felt like flying! I think I scared some drivers because I grinned like a maniac for the first two miles of the ride. Sooooo smooth! I will be a repeat customer at Outdoors Unlimited.

I had a bike I've owned for 3 years which I finally brought in for some maintenance. They had the pro tune up done in 3 days (cheaper than other surrounding locations). Just like brand new. Two weeks later, I hit a curb and a metal brace guiding the chain got thrown off, grinding against every chain section as I pedaled. I brought it in, and they immediately fixed it - free of charge.
