We just returned from visiting the Bronx Zoo for the first time. Although during Covid-19, the staff and zoo were fantastic. We felt safe and still saw the majority of the animals. We watch the TV show, and had a great time seeing the sites for real. Don't miss the Bengali Express Monorail, or the awesome gorilla exhibit. Overall, an excellent family day at the zoo. Thank you to the staff and management for keeping operations going. Loved it!

I love it!!! It was free!!
Wear confy shoes and be ready to walk.
If you go by train there is a bus (Bx12) that takes you from Pelham to the park, its a walking distance anyway; I walked nd i enjoyed.
I like how animal are divided per continent.
It a beautiful place to bing your kids.
The main gate and the fountain design are extremely mystical.
The only thing i didn't like there were not much animals as i expectes and the tiger, was very skinny; i felt like was not well feed, so sorry

If you haven been there, its a must go if you are in NYC.

I have been taking the kids to this zoo at least five times a year for the last six years. We usually get the annual membership, which is worth it if you plan on taking your kids more than once a year. This place is a gem in the middle of bustling Bronx. The best time to come here is when the zoo opens. You'll have the entire zoo to yourself. If you start from the Asia entrance, you will be the first in line for everything. Once the zoo gets busy around 2pm, we are usually on our way out. This zoo is always opening new exhibitions, so my kids are always excited about their next visit.

As for the Holiday Lights...I think I would give it 3 stars. There are lots of lights around the zoo. The animal shapes are nice but some of the lantern displays really take the cake. There are some lovely scenes with the lantern animals. The lights are spread out enough to socially distance but barely. There are still crowds in the larger areas, espcially the lines. The lines to see some of the lantern displays and some other displays can get long with people failry close (less than 6 feet) to each other. I was glad to see mostly everyone was wearing a mask though. We went for 6 PM on a Tuesday and t was more crowded than I thought. I would suggest maybe going later on (8 PM or so since I believe most people aim for the 5pm and 6pm times). Parking is $17 unless you are a Zoo/WCS member. There is street parking nearby along Southern Blvd, but during that time in the evening, it may be hard to get a spot. Overall we had a good time, more so because we were members and got free parking and 40% off tickets discount. If I was not a member and had to pay full price ($35 adult, $22 kids) for tickets plus an additional $17 for parking, I don't think it would be worth it. Keep in mind that those prices are for "admission only" to see the lights. Like any other venue, everything else is an additional charge and you can expect to pay top dollar for food, drinks and souvenirs. A family of four could easily spend $160+ ($130 alone on admission and parking) during their visit to the Holiday Lights. We were able to see everything in about 1.5 hours. You can add another 30 mnutes or so if you want to do some activities. (i.e. smores)

Bronx Zoo itself is five stars as its always been...even now during COVID. Tickets can be obtained in advance online. They have timed tickets to avoid over crowding. Even on a free Wednesday, it was very empty earlier in the morning. Everyone seemed very compliant with wearing masks. There is lots of parking along and around Southern Blvd. I believe the alternate side there is on Thursday and Friday, so you should have no problem finding a spot on the other days. There were a bunch of open spots available when I visited on 10 AM on a Wednesay...I snagged a spot right near the South Blvd. pedestrian entrance which is near 183rd street. Lots of hand sanitizing stations throughout the zoo as well. Most of the concession stands ar closed due to COVID, understandably. Also some animal may be indoors depending on the weather. Be sure to check ahead on the website or app. All staff were friendly and helpful. I remember coming to the zoo during the winter in the past and it is like you have the zoo to yourself...and this year with COVID it seems to be even emptier. It is also a great place to walk so condier getting an annual membership which also gets you access to 3 other zoos around NYC. Lastly, be sure to talk to zookeepers/attendants if you see them around. Most are very knowledgable...its always nice to get to learn a few facts about the animals from someone with hands-on experience.

It s a fabulous zoo, as everyone knows. I ve been a member for years and I m happy to support it. All the indoor exhibits are closed temporarily because of COVID-19. So I was sad that I couldn t see the gorillas but I certainly understand. This place is wonderful.

Very fun. Went on a Wednesday. Lines were very long but moved along quickly. Very well maintained. The cleaning staff make the park. Without all of their hard work out in that blistering sun the park would be a mess. Ppl were just throwing their trash on the ground. Yet all the clean staff I seen all had smiles and were very friendly.

My husband, 3 month old daughter, and I went to the bronx zoo last weekend. The area was very clean and well taken care of with clear walkways and the plants were very nice as well. The animals we got to see had good living spaces and seemed happy. We paid for general admission, but by doing this we ended up missing a lot. Every exhibit here is an extra 4 to 6 dollars per person. And half of them are indoors and do not allow strollers. I do not like to just leave my stroller parked were there are a lot of people. The one time we did leave the stroller to go in, the building was huge but only had a portion of it for display animals. I was so disappointed with it. The food is overpriced and not very appetizing. My husband almost got hit pushing our stroller ( thankfully I was holding baby) by a large cart, the guy was not watching where he was driving. Summed up we paid 12 for parking 15 a piece to get in and 4 a piece for the petting zoo. We were not going to pay extra money for every exhibit. I will not go back here ever. I highly recommend the Tampa, Florida zoo. The Bronx zoo reminded me of a state fair, you pay to get in and walk around then pay more for every little thing, at least the fair has good food!

Love the zoo! It's close by but has lots to see. Can easily spend a whole day there. It's cool that you can bring your own food and have a little picnic. Staff had always been helpful and friendly.

We went for the holiday lights and it was Super fun and magical. Felt very safe. We went at 3pm so some of the zoo was still open. Don't know if I will go to the lights next year, but we enjoyed ourselves.

This is a great experience, even though the zoo is slightly old style, and many of the exhibits were closed due to the cold weather. To my surprise even the Polar Bear exhibit was closed, but I learned later it was because the Polar Bear died the week before. Every staff member we talked to was extremely kind and helpful. It was a very slow day and we practically had the zoo to ourselves. The 4D movie was excellent. We literally had the entire theater to ourselves for that! Many of the restrooms were closed, which was a bit inconvenient, but I completely understand in view of the weather and the few visitors that day.

Went on a Saturday so they had many attractions open. The child zoo is to die for, you even get to feed horses and goats and sheep! Its too cute. The monorail is also worth the walk and the wait! The staff is very helpful as well, always smiling and giving correct directions :)

The place and the staff are great. However, the prices are really high. The zipline was $25 per person (not including the one photo you get for $10 that leaves you looking very orange). You only ride two ziplines and they are about 10 seconds each.

The parking is a whopping $17 which I think is absolutely ridiculous. You already pay an entrance fee and membership fee. I think some of those should include your parking (if it does not already). Now I understood why everyone was walking in - they parked outside for free and walked in.

I was planning on going back to do the climbing course, but I think I will pass and find one worthy of the cost.

I would go there when I was a kid to see the animals and I loved going there but as the years have gone by I've stopped going because of my friends and school but I'm hoping to go there again to see the animals once again hopefully after the virus goes away.

I loved being back at the Bronx Zoo. I was not happy with the map layout, which I am an excellent navigator.

The glass between us and them was filthy, on our side. So taking pictures was difficult. The staff was RUDE. I think I met 3 out of 15 employees that were friendly. I get that it's a long shift and hot, etc. But this is a family place, put a smile on. You're on stage.

The architecture I remember from my childhood is still incredible. The animals for the most part seemed happy, except Happy the elephant who seemed bored and lonely. The giraffe, gorilla and tigers were our highlights. Unfortunately we didn't get to see the entire park because I'm a slow walker with my cane.

I spent $60 on lunch for my daughter and I and all we had were chicken tenders and a burger with a souvenir cup for her. Apparently we were supposed to have a wristband for refills and never received one. The people at the Crane Cafe didn't know what the heck was going on when we were there. Seemed very confused.

We went on the monorail and the guide, if that's what she was, stumbled over her whole tour with information about the animals. We couldn't get pictures because where they'd slow down was for the people up front or in the middle. They put us in car 7 towards the end. So they'd slow down or stop and we'd have a tree and couldn't see.

When it was time to leave at 5 PM, we tried to go to the gift shop. There were people there shopping. Doors were locked. A woman with long dark wavy hair came to the door and gave me an attitude about being closed. I've never been ANYWHERE where a gift shop and kids intertwined where they didn't extend their hours for more money. My daughter, who literally ONLY wanted to go to the Bronx Zoo (bucket list request for our trip to NY) was so upset that I couldn't get her something from the zoo. I told her I'll have to go online. Which, at this point I was so frustrated I don't even care if I do.

My childhood memories will have to stay happy. I enjoyed the trip to the zoo overall, but a lot of hiccups.

Beware of price gouging if you just drive up. I wanted the cheapest tickets but workers in the booth rang me up for the all access passes. Then told me that I would have to go to customer service to get a refund.

A fantastic zoo, with so much to see. There are several locations to purchase food. The vast majority of people bring in a picnic lunch.

Take the time to review the map before your trip and decide what places are a must see when you get there.

I recommend parking furthest away from your favorite attraction, arriving at the park early and going to that location first. It will be a long walk there, but better to do it early in the day when you have the most energy. Then make your way back to where you parked.

Certain attractions are seasonal.

If you love visiting zoos and aquariums then the membership may be the most cost effective option for you.

The children s zoo alone can easily captivate the little ones for the day.

Arrive early. Arrive early. Arrive early.

There are peacocks all around. They are like seagulls or pigeons coming in for a snack. Don t throw them food. They will chase you.

We visited on a really rainy wet day but with rain coats and an umbrella we made the most of it. There were enough indoor exhibits to keep us entertained. We missed seeing the gorillas though. I suppose it gives us a reason to go back!

The family always loves the zoo. Right now with no indoor enclosures you are limited to just outdoor exhibits and no feedings and trainer events but there is plenty to see. My children always point out the peacocks rule the zoo and can be found pretty much all over. Great day to get out just make sure you make your reservation in advance so you can get in. Also weigh your options with tickets we find that a plus membership is more cost effective since we will visit Brooklyn Bronx and queens zoos.

This was my 3rd time attending this zoo in a span of 8 years, with this recent time with our toddler. Very disappointing. It's expensive without much interactive events for children. Parking is a nightmare and it's very crowded. Try Philadelphia Zoo instead or even the Central Park Zoo. The price isn't worth it. The dinosaur ride was a waste of time for the price asked. 1hr 15 min in line for a 10 min ride in seeing poorly built mechanical dinosaursm sound effect was poor.

Pretty expensive for visiting the zoo. that what i thought at first, but when i entered and saw what this zoo has to offer, i just couldn't believe it. Amazing is the only word to describe it. Kids will adore it, and as an adult i can say that i really enjoyed the zoo. Very clean, very clear, beautiful taken care animals, and a sunny day in the Bornx Zoo!

I'm so glad this place was open again. I got to take my son here for the first time.. A few of the attractions were still closed but all in all he had a great time. My only complaint would be that we didn't know they closed at 5pm.. So we sat down to eat at 4:40 and instead of the staff saying they were about to close..they allowed us to purchase 2 of those all day cups for the drinks..

The best zoo I have ever been too. It's one of the largest zoo in the country and it's free on Wednesday. The experience pass is worth it on Wednesday where it's only $15 a person instead of the usual $35 bucks.

Great zoo, its crowded but its NYC where isn't it crowded? The animal exhibits were well maintained and the animals looked well taken care of. Parking being a bit pricey is the only reason I gave this zoo 4 stars.

Fantastic ! We were a group of 8 on a bus trip. The zoo is HUGE, you can not see it all in 1 day. The staff were all very courteous and helpful. The zoo was clean and although the food was a bit pricey, it was good. You could bring food and drink in if you wanted, but we opted not to. I look forward to coming back to explore the areas we weren't able to see.
