Staying at Bolongo was the most wonderful stress free vacation ever. The views are amazing, and the staff was so friendly and they made sure we had a great time. The sunset cruise is breathtaking!
Ok so this place has scabies in its rooms !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The bar was cool the beach was cool but coming home and spending thousands of dollars for the next 6 months of my life on doctors to tell me I had scabies was not cool at all !!!! The place is not as nice as it s made out to be !!!!! Staff is pretty nice but
Hell any body working in paradise next to the beach should be nice !!!!!!!! Parking sucked
Biggest issue is not having hot water. They get most of it from solar so if you want to take a shower at 730am or 8PM no hot water. Food onsite is good, only have set dishes for lunch and set dishes for dinner maybe 8 each, so after your 3 day it gets old. Mims restaurant a short walk on the beach has been the savior for dinner, great seafood , wines and selection. Over all it was rated a 3 star when we booked and I would say that is correct but the cold showers really knock it down for us. If you dont get up until noon and head in in at 4 for dinner you will most likely have hot water and like it here. Also bring big spray the no see ums, small beach nats are my wife up.
Nice and relaxing place. Manager is very nice and works to make you feel at home. We has a great vacation
I will give 0 stars but u cant so 1. Don't go!!!! I just went there for fresh begals. First the lady was super rude and u see she wake up not on the right side.
I told her 3 times I just want FRESH bagels for my kids .
She came after 10m small box 2 hard bagles and asked me 9$.
I was in shock!!!! She was still super rude!!!! I will never never go back to this place! I left 10$ didnt even wait for my change beacuse I didn't want my day to be sad like this lady! And I hear her screaming "its not my fault" instead to just say sorry and go ask someone for a price! For 2 hard bagles that was sitting weeks in fridge!
All depends on your expectations... service is slow at best. Food was surprising good. All inclusive alcohol is actually top shelf. The rooms are old old-motel style with a view. Would plan better next time and do things different
Our first trip to Bolongo Beach Bay Resort March 6 - March 9, 2020 was amazing. We celebrated my husband s milestone birthday and our 35th wedding anniversary there after staying on island Yacht Haven on Our neighbors of 30 years sailboat Shamles in Charlotte Amalie. Our trip was perfect can t wait to go back. Timing couldn t have been more perfect either got home before COVID QUARANTINE 2020.
A lot of reviews about this place talk about 007 and what a great bartender he was. However, we had a much better experience with Rachel and Charlie. We visited about a year after Irma and Maria and the island was still amazing to us. I loved that Bolongo offered all of the snorkel gear and everything for free. We had such a good time. Hopefully one day we will be back.
The staff treated us like family! Everyone was extremely helpful. The food was excellent. The only unfortunate thing was the noseeums!! Little tiny bugs that ate me alive the first night! But the staff provided bug repellent for me for the rest of our stay! Definitely reccomend Bolongo Bay! And take advantage of the Sunset Cocktail Cruise for sure!
Staff treats you like family. Food was great. If you need anything they have you covered. clean and safe.
Good view showed good customer service, good prices, quiet
My husband and I went on a delayed honeymoon. It is one of our favorite memories! From the food, to the staff, to the room, everything and every person was perfection. We will be going back to our little paradis .
This was our second trip to Bolongo Bay and we are trying to decide when to come back. We had the best time ever. Met awesome people and just can t say enough good. The food was magnificent. It s not fancy but it is everything you need to rest and relax and have a true vacation. I have bad social anxiety, so large crowded places don t interest me. But Bolongo is a perfect mix of privacy and yet still enough people to socialize with if that s your thing. My husband was amazed that I actually became so relaxed not only did I talk to people A LOT but made plans for excursions with them, but took pictures for a surprise marriage proposal on Heavenly Days. We ve gone on some amazing vacations, but Bolongo Bay almost feels like a staycation because it s so comfortable, but no dishes laundry or other tasks to worry about. Can t wait to get back there. Oh, not sure how the staff does it, but they knew our names almost immediately..... it makes you feel like a VIP.
We didn't stay at the resort but enjoyed the catamaran out of their resort area. Parking was a bit confusing but people were helpful enough. Pretty beach.
We have stayed at Bolongo Bay Beach Resort twice (would have been 3 times had the hurricanes not happened) and our third trip is booked. We absolutely love it there! The people are are awesome, the food is great, and the view is amazing! We truly feel like we are at home when we are there.
Food was very good, staff very friendly, sunset cruise was nice crew very professional but fun!
Here for the first time, beautiful scenery, wonderful staff, from managers, waitresses, bartenders, front desk, food was delicious and the weather was perfect, thank you for making our stay here memorable
Home away from home. Couldn't find a friendlier bunch of folks...
I stayed nov 2018.. I was greeted with a welcome drink. Veronica is the sweetest and she was patient explaining the hotel policies . I chose all inclusive and it was worth it. The food and drinks are so good. They have a swim up bar. I ate like a queen. Lobster and conch was my favorite. 007 was a cool bartender. They have kayak, hobos cat, floaters, snorkeling apart of non motorized sports. I was provided a courtesy drive through the down free of charge. View was beautiful. Only downside was no music or live entertainment, the pool is small, rooms are slightly outdated, the beach had sea weed and rocky but other than that I enjoyed my stay. Lastly, it was low occupancy and felt deserted, maybe because I visited off peak. Once they have live entertainment or at least island music this will be even better.
We had the most fantastic time at Bolongo Bay Beach Resort with ten Virgin Islanders - we did all the water sports and couldn't recommend enough! AMAZING!
Great place! Staff is amazing and very hospitable. Great sunset cruise and trip snorkeling with the turtles!
Bolongi got hammered and good ole Iggies was destroyed. But they are bringing it back. The restaurant and views are great. T is hard to imagine how hard they got hit but it is still a wonderful place to go!
Bolongo Bay was amazing. My wife and I recently visited for our 20th anniversary. The resort is small (only 80 rooms) and we loved that about it. The service and crew were amazing. The food was delicious, I highly recommend the wings and lobster! It is all made to order and NOT buffet food like other all-inclusives. The bar for all-inclusive was very diverse as well. You can choose from 6 different beers and have many decent liquor options, not just the cheapest available. The beach and bay were gorgeous and it is a great place to snorkel. The only issues we had, and they were very minor were that the showers were small and the shower heads were out of date. If they did some small upgrades there, that would be a plus but it wasn't enough to change our excellent opinion of the resort. Please support this family ran business and keep it going!
Good food. Friendly, helpful staff. Many on site opportunities to enjoy vacay. Great all-inclusive resort.
We had an amazing stay at Bolongo! The rooms are great and many of them have a beautiful view. The staff were all fantastic - always helpful and happy to provide suggestions. The pool with the swim up bar is a wonderful place to relax. The restaurant has great food. Lots of options for watersports right from the beach. Having Heavenly Days right there to go out on their various sailing adventures is super convenient. Definitely go on at least one sail.
Bolongo Bay Beach Resort is the Essence of a true caribbean Resort.. The property is low keyed, and truly so much fun, that if you stay there, you will enjoy Excellent Cuisine, Fun Times at the Pool Bar and Iggies Oasis, from Breakfast to Dinner and beyond. The Property is Owned and Run by the Doumeng Family, which has been done now for 3 generations. Richard Doumeng and his wife Katarina, Brother Paul are seasoned Hoteliers with experienced insight into what makes this Property work. They're true pioneers in the industry. Let's talk about their onsite Weddings I had mine there and it was done by Lorena Leonard. She is the Queen of Wedding Planners and I am so grateful to her for making the Process easy and streamlined. In closing, if you are a Traveler who is looking for a true caribbean experience, Bolongo Bay Beach Resort is the Spot for you.
Eh... pretty rough shape. So so food. Very, very slow service.
I loved this place I did want to go home. We will be coming back again. The people was so very nice. Food was good. Rooms wasnt bad for everything they have been through.
Mom and Pop, great food, quiet area, beach ehh kinda.
Great for breakfast. 4 of us had pretty dang good breaks for about 40 bucks
Gorgeous resort, phenomenal food, absolutely lovely people!
We have been to many Caribbean islands and keep returning to Bolongo Bay. I can't say enough about the staff and the hominess of this resort. You may be a stranger checking in but give it 10 minutes and you will have island friends and family for a lifetime. Best vacation value ever! Food is very good and excellent drink selection.
Very nice casual low key location.
Snorkeling tours located on location
The restaurant has great burgers and wings.
Excellent is an understatement! The hospitality is amazing and is what really brings this resort together. A few memorable names...Cindy the waitress! Tammy in the gift shop...who cut aloe out of the ground for my sunburn! The other woman in the gift shop....she knows all about the island...the food...the hot spots...the jewelry... everything. 007 the bartender! Toby the bellman!!! He was amazing and hooked us up with Rum Punch the moment we walked through the door. If you scroll through many of the reviews you'll see the common threads about the rooms and the beach...okay. so I love snorkeling and the beach was wonderful for that! We went swimming at all of the local beaches so this beach was wonderful for snorkeling and sunsets! The rooms were great to us! Beach rooms...after reading these reviews I thought I would be entering a dump...but it was nothing short of amazing. The landscaping really ties the whole thing together...it's a real life paradise. The couple we went with was not happy as they are used to lavish Mexico resorts but to me.... this was absolutely wonderful and we can't wait to go back. There are two guys in the surf shack...one named Jonathan... wonderful guy...so happy and smiling and just a joy to be around. Maybe there are more beautiful places to go to that might be more lavish...but this was exactly what I wanted. The most helpful and humble place on the island. I know during these tough times the island locals prefer we state siders stay home...but I never felt that way at this resort. Welcoming...humbling...amazing. thank you for everything!!!
My husband and I love bolongo bay
We honeymooned there and have been there several times.
I stayed
I stayed at Bolongo Bay Beach resort from August 5 - August 8; on Our last night, One of the owners of Bolongo Bay resort David Doumeng arrived at the hotel. He was drinking and very aggressive.
My 15 year old son was assaulted and harassed by Owner David Doumeng; the Police Case report # is ST777OFF9908; I immediately left the hotel for my family's safety because the other Owner brother Richard Doumeng would not help us; Im not even going to comment on the hotel stay, because this was the most traumatic experiences me and my family have ever gone through; Im currently working with local authorities, and the Attorney General so this does not happen in the future; Its a shame because this is a family owned Hotel and has been on the island for 50 years; after the kids took it over; there has been major issues; there is no upgrades; we we had ants and the rooms will not be cleaned unless you request it; we found trash and condoms under Neath the beds; it was disgusting; the only thing good was the local staff natives; they were very nice and sweet. Please view my public please report; so there is evidence and not just a disgruntled customer
We spent a week at Bolongo- All Inclusive for our honeymoon October 2019. This was the best vacation/experience. The staff is so friendly, the food and drinks are 5 stars, the beach and amenities could not be any better. The rooms were comfortable though we spent very little time in our room other than to sleep, to much to do. The staff was very knowledgeable on excusrions and sightseeing. We took taxis from the hotel and the drivers were amazing and fare is reasonable. At the suggestion from Bolongo staff and the taxi drivers we explored a different part of the island and neighbooring islands every day. The hotel provided a day of swimming with the turtles and the sunset cruise, which was the most fun day we had. The crew on Heavenly Days Catamaran was a whoot!! We cannot wait to go back and we recommend Bolongo to everyone.
We had a good experience at Bolongo Bay! We spent most of our stay at Mafolie Hotel and booked 2 days at Bolongo to have the beach front experience. While it was nice to stay on the beach, I was happy we saved money at Mafolie for most of our stay and had an even better view! Bolongo Bay has a great beach and great food. I will say that you should get all inclusive if booking on Expedia, don't get the "no food" option.
Nice location, not so well maintained resort.
Looks great in pictures, actually very ordinary.
Nice place to have lunch, pleasant and helpful staff
We went in January 2019 which was so great for weather and fun! It was our first vacation in 8 years and we absolutely loved it! Would recommend this resort to anyone! If you are looking for wild and crazy this isn t it. It s more of a quiet relaxing resort. Perfect for us!
First visit back since 1981... very nice and still much the same. Love being a leader to walk out the door and onto the beach. Food was good, staff was extremely friendly
Rocky and windy. But we saw some crab walking on the beach and found some cool looking coral.
All inclusive... All the way... Great beach view... Staff are friendly and welcoming. Great vacation getaway
We loved our stay here. We recommend all inclusive. The hotel staff made us feel like family and were always doing whatever they could to help us with everything. Even excursions outside of the resort.
Once you learn about the island and go explore it, you will understand more about why things are done the way they are here.
Our stay was amazing and we will come back!
My wife and I visited here for 1 week just this past week. It was our first time to the Virgin Islands and was not sure what to expect following the devastation from the 2 hurricanes. We were simply blown away with our experience! To say the staff is friendly is an understatement, they there simply fantastic, always saying hi or good morning or ask how the previous day was and conversing with you versus just doing their work.
The activities coordinator, has been with Bolongo Bay for nearly 20 years and she is extremely knowledgable and easy to work with. If you tell her what you want to do, she will make it happen! I recommend doing a Island Tour of St. Thomas, when we did this we went with Tim's Tours and Tim takes you all around the island, he works with you to determine how long you want to be at each stop, and shares his knowledge with you.
We missed out on the Rum Dive unfortunately, but we did get to take advantage of the Sunset Cruise on the Heavenly Days Catamaran, upon doing this we immediately signed up for the Sunday Funday event which was a full day on the Heavenly Days Catamaran. The crew, Captain Z, Rob, and Connie were again fantastic, they make sure everyone is having a great time and are not just drones working on the boat. They offered to take pictures for each of the couples on the boat and really engage with everyone, treating those on board more like friends. I would highly recommend going on either of these options or both of them, the Sunday Funday trip was truly the pinnacle of our trip.
The rooms are pretty basic which was fine, as we only used the room to sleep in but has AC, a shower, fridge, and TV.
If you are looking for a good place to stay on St. Thomas, I would highly recommend staying here. This resort is owned by 2 families, who are committed to rebuilding the island versus the major resorts who are simply focused on simply rebuilding their resorts.
After not having a vacation in almost 10 years Bolongo Bay was recommended by my agent. I spent 8 days there enjoyed every minute. Beautiful atmosphere, awesome staff. Friendly and accommodating. Can't wait to return.
best place EVER! friendly people and staff! good food, good drinks...all inclusive is the way to go!
we had a wonderful time. in spite of the bathroom being not the cleanest (mildew shower, toilet on wood planks) I would go back. the staff was mostly helpful and friendly with the exception of night staff at the restaurant. the food was good, the drinks were strong, the view was nice.
My husband and I spent our honeymoon here August 2016. We were greeted warmly and brought to our room. My husband surprised me with the honeymoon package of champagne and chocolates with a heart made of rose petals. I walked out the back door and stood there and cried. It was so beautiful , it took my breath away. The food was good. We had a blast at Iggies ! We found the staff helpful and courteous. Ms. Vernita is a gem ! We are currently planning a return visit and although we looked into other resorts, we loved our stay at Bolongo and will be returning there to celebrate our first anniversary soon. The room was clean . The bed comfy. Our air worked great. Shower wasn't great but hey, we didn't care . Overall was a great place. Water toys, beach towels, Sun chairs were all available. Iguanas and cats were cool to have around . . Love this place !!
The first time we went to Bolongo Bay Was January 28, 1989 for our honeymoon. We had an ocean view room on the second floor. Beaches beautiful staff wonderful food fantastic. We have been back numerous times since then and of course things do change. Due to hurricanes and beach erosion, the beach is a little bit smaller but just as beautiful. Since the last hurricane Iggies Down the beach is closed but the owners have made the main lobster grille Iggy s oasis. Although I loved strolling down the beach to Iggy s for a quick slider or fish taco the owners have really done a fantastic job to deal with the result of the hurricane.
We are going back in January again for our 32nd anniversary. Do I wish Iggy s was open down the beach sure I do but you make your vacation as fun and happy as you want it. The food is delicious the staff are wonderful and very accommodating. Sure the rooms can be a little dated but how often are you really in the rooms? They are clean, beds are comfortable plenty of hot water. You can be as formal as you want or as informal as you wantTo a degree. The only con that we run into which is really not a con is the no See ums that like your ankles at night time. The resort has spray for your ankles but I always bring a small bottle anyway. Not a big deal. The ladies in the gift shop can help you out with any tours or extracurricular activities. The sunset cruise on heavenly days is a must do. Of course there are people that want chandeliers and Crystal but they can go somewhere else. Bolongo is as quiet as you want it to be or you can hang by the bar and listen to the music and the bands that they have. You are never bored. We went zip lining last year we ve done parasailing, of course the sunset cruise, we ve taken the ferry over to Saint John to the beach for a day. You will not be disappointed if you want beautiful beach great food comfortable accommodations. The perfect getaway
Awesome amenities. Always great customer service. Pool is clean. I love the ambience. You get a complementary rum punch with check in and free towels for the pool. The restaurant has really good food. And the bar is great. I was there almost evey night. Haha. Beds can be a little more comfortable. Mattress are old. Sheets are very thin.
We absolutely love this resort. My wife and I have been here twice already and plan on heading back in February. The owners and staff are very friendly and attentive and make you feel like you re a part of the family. They have onsite snorkeling cruises, scuba diving trips, and sunset cruises plus plenty of free water sports items to use.
WAPA caused a few problems as usual but it was great otherwise.
Iggies is the best! Can't wait for the beach bar opening!!!
Quiet out of the way place. Reasonable prices for drinks etc.
Bolongo "Iggies" is like most places on island recovering after the storms. The pool is very nice and the food was darn tasty. The staff was nice fun and friendly. Even told me how to properly make a painkiller. Stop by and get one and take in the view pool and beach!
Small and cute with only 70 rooms. All inclusive includes water toys and lessons. We will definitely be back.
We are currently here, and the service at the bar and restaurant are HORRIBLE. Staff are for the most part not friendly. ALMOST ALWAYS waiting 30 minutes just to see a server, and then waiting, at times an hour for food. Order drinks 2 or 3 at a time or you will be waiting until the end of your meal for a refill. Rules and policies changed on a DAILY basis depending on who was working. The quirky host guy was especially out to point out what guests were doing wrong. The boat trips on the heavenly days were AMAZING and the staff were wondeful.
Great spot, nestled in its own private bay. Rooms are comfortable. There are several choices for food with the all inclusive price. All inclusive only includes rail drinks. Tips are included in the price, though I know the staff appreciated extra.
Some cool wild cats and iguanas reside around the property.
Nice that they offer scuba gear, SUP boards, kayaks for guest usage (with the all inclusive).
The staff at this place are the best. They treat you like family. Oh yeah, the scenery is fantastic, a true paradise.
I hated the cat in the dinner area. It ruined my anniversary dinner since I m scared of cats. Rooms were outdated. Walls were thin. WiFi sucked. Bathrooms sucked. Ocean view was very weak. Limit of 1 entree a person in the all inclusive package. It s basically an expensive motel on the beach. For the price you can def do better.
Staff was nice and friendly bless them
Great resort! Quiet location with amenities to keep you busy and relaxed at the same time. Snorkel the bay to see the eel and turtles, and enjoy meals with the amazing wait staff at Iggie s. Plan to take a taxi to the resort instead of renting a car: once you are there relax and enjoy the time...
I don't know where the other reviewers stayed but it was not here.
This "resort" is what one might picture if you described a failing sea-side motel on the verge of foreclosure after a series of hurricanes and a global pandemic. And I start to feel bad as I write that because it might come across as harsh (and sadly accurate) ... but, when I think back to spending over $3k on a four night stay, I cease to experience any moral dilemma.
To be fair to management - let's start with the good:
- The location is beautiful as you would expect.
- Many of the staff were accommodating and friendly such as the store clerk, general manager, "romance director", and a couple of the wait staff were very friendly.
- They provide free snorkeling gear, the food is decent at first, and they have a few Iguanas that lounge around that we called "Jack" and took selfies with.
- The all inclusive does include some good spirits, most notably Titos.
- The sunset cruise was very fun and the staff was nice and accommodating.
- All of the rooms offer an ocean view that is breathtaking and a pleasure to wake up to everyday.
- Some of the food options we're really good.
Now - to be fair to the reader; the bad:
- The beach is filled with rocks and relatively small offering no seaside service of any kind (you have to walk to the restaurant to get drinks or anything). This is disappointing because the island is inherently expensive and this forces you to go to other beaches and spend money on taxi and drinks.
- The all inclusive package leaves much to be desired. The menu is limited and in our four day stay you quickly get bored of the selection. Also, they are very strict in quantity and what you can order per person. When you think of all inclusive you think of a cruise ship where it is a free for all.
- The wait staff in general was not friendly and treated us as a nuisance as opposed to guests. This, when compared to lets say a royal Caribbean cruise, was very off putting. I found myself feeling bad at times ordering things or approaching the bar at 10:30AM (opening time) and being told to come back in 10 mins. It was the type of service one might expect at a run-of-the-mill bar at home.
- The rooms were the worst part. Have not been touched with any updates since the late 90s. Black discoloration on the trim and tile. The showers were tiny and took forever to get luke warm (no hot water). Again, it was more like a motel than any sort of "resort".
- There was no form of entertainment aside from the bar bands but the girls at the dive shop actually did do a good job of trying to come up with activities such as the plant tour. Also, before I forget shout out to the Dive shop girls for literally saving the life of a man who we called "Blue" who lost consciousness while snorkeling. Shout out to my boy blue also hope you are good man!!
- Mostly everything you do is an extra charge. The sunset ride, the booze cruise - everything is more money more money.
- The resort is also located on the shoulder of a road you cannot walk on so you just have to accept being there or pay money to drive somewhere else nothing is walkable - I guess this isn't as much their fault.
Overall, I feel bad because I know businesses are struggling to stay afloat during these hard times. But I felt compelled to share my experience so people know what they are getting themselves into. If you are okay with a run down motel on a rocky beach with mediocre service on a limited "all inclusive menu" you will love this place. It is clearly a business that management has decided to suck every penny out of and let it run into ruins. If they invested a couple Mill into the place they could bring it back to life but at this point it seems doomed. Everyone we talked to was having a similar experience.
I'm sorry Bolongo Bay I wanted to love you so much and you broke my heart. I wish the experience was more like their hotel answering machine "Its a great day in bolongo bay".
If you want an all inclusive look no further. My wife and I wanted to have an all inclusive resort for our 7 day trip to St. Thomas/John. This all inclusive goes above and beyond. Getting to pick between two sit down restaurants, and damn good ones, is a huge bonus. I am not a big buffet eater so the restaurant feel was fantastic. The staff was more than friendly and helpful. Also you know a place treats employees good if multiple members of their staff has been there 15+ years. The bar tenders are great and good at what they do. Rooms are not 5 star, but honestly how much time do you wanna stay in them? Rooms are clean and AC works well. At best 3.5 stars. Beach was pleasant, kyaks rentals ect were great. Snorkeling isn't top shelf but ok. You will see some fish and possibly a ray and a few barracuda but probably not anything too spectacular.
All in all I loved our stay, loved the food and the staff was excellent. Would love to come again!
Excellent customer service, beautiful views and plenty of activities to enjoy.
My spouse and I stepped away from our table to have a cigarette because, we did not want to smoke in the dinning area. We stayed with in a visual distance and We were aggressively approached by security and told they are calling 911. The manager forced us to return to the table immeatadily before we could finish our ciggerett.
Wonderfully friendly staff throughout the resort, and delicious food at both restaurants. The rooms are a bit dated, but the bed was very comfortable. The beach and ocean views were stunning. If we return to St. Thomas, we will stay at Bolongo Bay again.
The 1/2 day turtle cruise was amazing! The crew and the view!
The old Igges is gone. Not sure I like The new one.
Bolongo Bay is truly the best if personal is what you're looking for. 5 trips and counting and every one a joy.
