The staff were friendly and accommodating. The water park was decently sized . Rooms were large and clean with lots of added features that made them very comfortable. Next time I'm in Calgary I would consider coming here again

I have stayed here a few times and this hotel NEVER has cable or the cable will turn off and front desk just blames it on shaw then you are left with nothing for the evening. Also room service was loudly talking to eachother outside my room for 10 min and banged on the door 8am waking me up disturbing my crew rest .Think twice before booking here
I called the hotel directly the night before I made my reservation for my family of four. I asked if they would match the Expedia price I found online which the hotel said they would. I also asked if their pool was fully accessible and if they require book-ins to use the pools facility- they explained that we didn t need to book in and the pool was fully operational.
The day I checked in they charged me their price for the hotel which was $20 over the price I found on Expedia- even after I explained that I had called the day before being promised a different rate.
The pool was only accessible if you booked in and only only allowed 45min swim times - the pool was also not fully operational as they explained it was. Frustrating as I specifically asked their pool guidelines the night before.
The front desk was unorganized, they were friendly however.
Excellent hotel. Good location, big room and full restaurant on site. Breakfast is not included as it is a larger complex. Would recommend it for any traveler
In my line of work, as an airline pilot, I get to see many, many hotels. Never is my stay at the Best Western Plus Port'o'Call an uncomfortable one. I always enjoy my stay with the most friendly hotel staff in the country. With a slightly older exterior this hotel has been well looked after and modernized with the times. Older is better in this case. Unlike newer hotels, you CANNOT hear the room next to you. The pool and water slides are well enjoyed by families and the quiet lounge and bar and family restaurant are excellent ammenities. The free wifi is fast and reliable and the gym is modern and clean. There is also a second pool and hot tub near the gym with steam rooms. This is my favorite hotel in the country that I get to frequent. By friendliness of the staff alone it's 5 stars.
Unfortunately, unlike my 5 star on my last visit a month ago. Room was clean. Couldn t get into pool as it was all booked. Major attraction and kids were very disappointed. One of the cleaning staff had a short attitude with me at one point. No bench in designated smoking area so you have to sit on the curb. I thought I found my perfect hotel. Sadly I will have to try somewhere else next time. Why did it have to go down and not up it quality. Hope they read these and change a few things.
Spent 5 nights and was very pleased with how quiet the hotel was, considering its proximity to the airport. Did not hear any noise at all associated with airplanes. Hotel entrance/foyer clean and bright and desk staff readily available at check-in. Elevators all in service and arriving promptly when called. 5th floor hallway & room clean/bright. All amenities in room functioned properly. Used the water park twice, surprised by how large it was (not just one small slide). Lots of towels available in the water park. Had beverages/appetizers in lounge - good service. Had buffet breakfast in restaurant - quality of some items not great; could have been fresher. Overall though, a good stay.
Not the cleanest. We just stayed here July 24-25th, 2020. We left this morning at 1AM WITH 3 YOUNG CHILDREN. 2E FOUND BED BUGS!!! They're also allowing over 40 people in the pool at a time during COVID
Great hotel! Staff were very helpful and hotel is super family friendly. They even shipped our pillows back to us free of charge when we accidentally left them behind.
We have a lovely time here every time! My son enjoys the water park, especially the wading pool. Upon check in, we realised we had left our diaper bag at home- which had his swimming diapers. The front desk offered us swimming diapers immediately, they saved me from having a disappointed 2 year old! The breakfast buffet is good, with a variety of options for vegetarians. We travelled here with 2 teams from Edmonton for a soccer tournament (about 40 people)- the management and restaurant staff made all the necessary reservations and provided great service!
My go-to place when I'm in Calgary on business. I stay here approximately a dozen times a year, and have been coming for the last 10. It was great 10 years ago, and much like a fine wine, has managed to improve with age. The amenities include three levels of heated, secure underground parking, diverse dining options (a coffee bar, lounge, sports bar and restaurant), great selection of meeting facilities, a water park and separate adults pool, and a better-than-average gym. The front desk staff are top-notch. You'd be very hard pressed to find a better hotel property in Calgary.
Even though this is one of the older hotels in Calgary, the staff and amenities here are fantastic. We feel so welcome every time we stay here and the food is excellent. Our daughter always enjoys the pools and water slides. Great location near the airport and just a few minutes to downtown. They were working on one of the elevators when we were there, but the other one must have already been renovated as it was very smooth and fast. Nice to see an older hotel being kept up so well :o)
Rooms were decent and clean, service was good and all pools were working. Place was full from hockey teams and other teams so it was a bit packed in the pools. Would stay again.
I haven't stayed there but went there with the car club to have their buffet breakfast on Saturday. The cost was $14.95 + gratuity per person all you can eat. They didn't have bacon but they had ham and sausages. Friendly staff and quick to fill your coffee up. Overall I liked it!
This place is pretty awesome. I gave it 4 stars because the poolside rooms where I stayed smelled so strong of chorine, that I couldn t sleep. I feel like they should warn you before you book those rooms! Water park is awesome, staff is great, breakfast buffet is wonderful. Thank you for a great stay, we ve already booked to come back! Shout out to the evening manager Mo, what an awesome guy!!
Update: returned back for a weekend and can t get enough of this place. Thank you for the wonderful service and stay! Changed my review to 5 star!
Check in was great friendly and fast, got quiet room in 4th floor away from elevator like we asked for and a crib, room was clean and as expected. Couldnt hear any planes. Hotel was clean overall even though it was sold out (very busy) pool was too cold for my liking but everyone enjoyed it and the slides. 4 stars only because pool was cold and it was murky esp the hot tub. The pool in basement was even colder but cleaner. Hot tub in basement was clean. The hotels restaurant was top notch, amazing buffets and very child accommodating staff was really awesome everywhere from cleaning staff to check in and especially the restaurant; very pleasant. I reccomend buying buffet when you get there not with a hotel voucher. Breakfast is 14.95 dinner 18.95 and kids under a certain age eat free. I think this is cheaper then buying a hotel buffet combo.
Great experience from room to front desk staff all which made it an enjoyable visit to Calgary. The room was clean and had ample room for us. The water park was a blast with an area for little ones. Breakfast buffet was a nice bonus in the morning. Edit: Best part was a midnight walk to the pop machine with 3 dollars in change to a drink finding out it only takes credit cards and surprise all of the machines only take plastic. Went to the front desk and asked and apparently the lounge was the only place in the building that had vending machines that took the 3 coins I had and well they didnt have the drink I wanted to get lovely!
Fantastic, clean room. The kids really enjoyed the water park with its 2 water slides and small slide for the toddler to do on her own. The staff was friendly and very knowledgeable about their city.
Not a bad place somewhat outdated, pool was so busy it became a safety concern, one of the elevators was out of service, also the pop machine on the 6th and 5th floor were out of service too.
This hotel is AMAZING for families with kids. The indoor water park was so much fun. I have an almost 2 year old a 5 year old and an 8 year old. All of them enjoyed themselves. The pool is suitable for all ages. They are following all health guidelines for Covid-19. Times are booked in advance for 45 minute duration which is perfect There is an on-site nail salon which was awesome because I haven't been able to get my nails done for 6 months. I managed to get them done in less than an hour while my kids were sleeping. What a treat. The rooms were simple. Clean and free coffee. The beds were SUPER COMFY....after a long drive its nice to lay on a quality mattress with clean sheets. There is a separate pool and gym in the basement but closed due to regulatory guidelines. There is a nightclub on location called Jetz lounge that I really wanted to attend but didn't get the chance too. My kids enjoyed going around back to ride their scooters while watching the planes land in fascination. The hotel is easy to find and there are lots of places to eat nearby. I always stay here while passing and visiting family or friends in Calgary. They used to sell Calaway Park passes at a discounted rate but this year that isn't happening so be warned if you planned on purchasing them at a discount rate from the hotel. I would recommend this hotel and will be returning. The staff were all friendly and professional.
Stayed here mainly for the waterpark, travelling with two young kids it really hits the spot for them. Rooms were a pretty dated but in good condition. Waterpark was fun but too cold for my liking. The water temp and the ambient temp were too cool and i felt cold most of the time. But the kids didnt seem to notice and had a blast! Had supper at the resturant and was not great, but returned for the breakfast buffet and it was total opposite! If the rooms were updated and the the waterpark not so cool id be at 5 stars for this place. PARENTS: this place is very kid friendly, nice to be around so many young familys as you know they probably dont care that your being loud or your 3 year old is having a tantrum. We felt really comfortable here in that aspect.
When in Calgary, this is our hotel of choice. We stay there before and after hot vacations and meet family from out of town there for weekend visits. The hotel is being renovated so even though it has been around for years, it is awesome. The restaurants and bar/lounge are welcoming and our grand children love the pool and waterslide. The staff have always been excellent and accommodating.
We have tried a couple of other hotels when family have booked elsewhere, but have now convinced them that the Port O Call is where we all should be.
Facility has aged and is showing some signs of it, however the staff are great. The swimming pool/waterslides were a big hit with kids. Most best western's have free continental breakfasts but here they charge restraunt rates and did not seem worth it. The food was sub par...buffet style, watered down eggs, overcooked bacon etc. There fruit spread was quite nice however. Pretty well the exact breakfasts that are provided free at other locations. All in all an ok experience. The water park is what made it worth it for us.
The pool area is cold, if you get out of the water to go up the slide it gives you very cold. the rooms are clean but in case we suffer a lot of cold the heating would not work. My children left the hotel sick. the breakfast was rich they have variety.
This Hotel was beyond amazing! We absolutely cannot wait to stay with them again. Our room was spotless. The beds were beyond comfortable. The employees go out of their way to make you feel welcome. They have a gorgeous waterpark. It was right outside of our room window...room 211, but we not once were disturbed from waterpark sounds. They also have an amazing fitness facility, with another more private area attached with a pool and hot tub. My daughter worked out, while we took her little brother into the pool and we hot tubbed. The restaurant was an absolute dream experience. They breakfast buffet is awesome....but.....the brunch....that is a must to try! The servers are top notch. Always smiling and always friendly. What a true gem of a hotel! Do yourself a favor and look Port of Call up. You wont regret it. If you stay there look for Janet in the restaurant. She is just a beautiful person to talk to.
We had a work event happening in one of the party rooms in the basement. The whole atmosphere was very cozy and the bathrooms were super clean. The catering however was mediocre but the space was well utilized and clean.
Excellent hotel, nicest staff we've encountered! It was also the only hotel that had a truly handicapped room. Really enjoyed the stay. Its clean and service is great. And fun for the whole family
Amazing Wonderful awesome staff!!! It's always a pleasure to stay. Unfortunately the pool was closed again but not their fault. Would recommend a stay here you be staying for many years to come!
The parking, setup is a little cumbersum, as you need your room card to access the underground parking, which means you need to pull your vehicle out before checking out. The underground parking is also tight to navigate, so if you have a full size SUV, or truck, you'll need to park outside.
The room was clean, and comfortable, however we were woken at 7:00am by a group of kids running down the hall screaming, and again at 7:30am. (This is a one off, and we were given a discount on our next visit to a Best Western.
The pool area was nice, though the pool itself was a little cold, the hot tub was a good temperature, but lacked decent jetting.
The food is overpriced, we ordered 2 10" pizzas from a place claiming "Calgary's best Pizza" the pizza was good (not amazing) but it cost $40. There's a breakfast buffet which is good, it has a generous selection, with well cooked food and a good selection of fruits and desserts, but again, it's overpriced. $15 per adult, and half for a child is a little steep considering you're already paying to stay there. $10 and $5 would be a better fit.
All in all, it's a nice hotel with a dated layout, and expensive food. If you use this hotel, be aware that the cost of the room may not be your only expense.
Great hotel stay there many times before. The pool and hot tub are awesome. What they did mess up my reservation once. Luckily I called to confirm so they can adjust at the last minute.
Incredibly family friendly hotel with fun pool and waterslides! From the polite, courteous staff who accommodated every request (from swim diapers to bandaids) to the spaciousness and cleanliness of our room (which also had a great layout and lighting that could accommodate multiple people getting ready at once) and fast, tasty room service...I can confidently say we look forward to our next return stay...and very soon too. Only improvements I would suggest are better access for strollers from parkade to hotel...with a ramp or something other than just small flight of stairs and a few more updates to the room's decor. Otherwise, one of my favorite hotels EVER!
We had a great time with our family at the Best Western. I would say in general it was a very good experience. The water park is well maintained and the kids enjoyed the water slides. The one negative was the food in the restaurant was very expensive and not worth the price charged for the buffet.
I went to stay here for my daughters 9th birthday party (local and 2 adjoining rooms) I called the 1-800 # to make a reservation and had the worst time ever, they kept telling me that the two adjoining rooms were not possible for those dates and tried to refer me to a Hilton Hotel nearby. If i wanted the Hilton Hotel, i would have booked that, but the pool here is amazing. I should also mention that the 1-800# offered me a higher price than what was offered on the BW Website and when asked to speak to a manager, i was on hold for over 5 min. Being the impaired Albertan that I am, i called the hotel directly and was answered within 3 rings. Clarissa (my booking agent) was so graceful and helpful in making my reservation. (Highly recommend speaking to her) She was able to ensure that the two rooms i was booking were adjoining and could accommodate all persons involved. I would greatly recommend this hotel ONLY if you call them directly. They are so welcoming and accommodating when engaging with them directly. Highly recommend!!!
We stayed at the Port O Call while visiting family in Calgary. Our twin 4 year olds loved the pool and water slides! With life jackets on, they could go down the slides independently and also enjoyed the little kids warm pool. It was a quick drive to the zoo and Telus Spark, and there are lots of restaurants and services along McKnight. Staff was helpful and friendly. We used the coupon in the SUTP book and took advantage of the great buffet breakfast. We will stay again any time we are in Calgary!
The Hotel is in the midst of being updated. We had an older room in need of updating. Someone appears to have placed boogers on the walls, which was gross, but otherwise was very clean. The staff was extremely friendly. We made arrangements for a crib and it took some time but it came up to the room. The pool was great, crowded, but great. My 5 year old son loved the two water slides, while my wife, our baby, and myself enjoyed the pool which was heated. There were plenty of food choices on site, with two restaurants, and a cafe. The cafe had a great variety of items at a reasonable price. The coffee in the room wasn't the best, and I would recommend grabbing one from the cafe.
2nd time here...Hotel is in nice location with quite a few ammendities close by. My child really loves the water slides and pools, but 1st day 2/3 hot tubs were closed.
This is a beautiful Hotel with wonderful amenities. The staff are professional and helpful. Great Hotel for individuals looking for wheelchair accessibility. The accessible rooms are wonderful. There Indoor Waterpark is fantastic for the whole family. This was the best hotel i ever stayed in
The hotel was located a short distance from the Calgary Airport which was perfect for our families mini weekend away to pick up my mother inlaw. Our room was very spacious with comfortable beds and plenty of amenities. Our kids specially loved the water slides and multiple pools. The under ground parking was a nice touch although it is a little tight to maneuver.
Nicely renovated. But truly disappointed in the buffet selection. Felt it catered to children rather than the adults who would be paying. Pizza and pasta night is every Friday and Saturday night. But the selection is so very limited! Jello was the only item offered up for desert. Imagine! I of course sent my complaint to the chef. He had the good sense to put out an array of little pastries. It also seems there is no particular dress code in this lovely dining room. Use to be....no shirt..no shoes....no service. I was offended by the appearance of one particular couple that were seated beside us. Won't be going back.
We missed the shuttle from the airport to the hotel by a few minutes. instead of making us wait an hour for the next shuttle they paid for a taxi for us. The staff couldn't have been more helpful and even insisted on taking our bags to our room for us. The buffet breakfast was very nicely set up and the food was the best I have had in a long time. I would recommend this hotel to everyone. Even though we didn't have time to use all their amenities (swimming pool, hot tub and fitness room) I will try to have extra time the next time I visit Calgary.
used the hotel as a base to meet our American friends and explore Calgary. All worked out very well, easy to get to and convenient to Deerfoot expressway and airport. Hotel staff were excellent as were the rooms and restaurant we used. Hotel is modern and very well renovated. Looks like a brand new hotel even though it has been there a few years.Excellent location.
