The airport is very modern and clean just as Singapore, Seoul, or Hong Kong airport, but larger. Although we only transit through, we has to pass through a passport control and tight security checkpoint. The Chinese security officials were efficient, information desk was helpful. One had to give them one's cell phone number to get access to airport WIFI. The food was expensive and there were only 4 or 5 restaurants including some fast-food places such as Kentucky Fried Chicken and Pizza Hut. In a self-service restaurant, two orders of hamburger came with little fries, a bowl of fries, and one small bottle of water, without cup or class, set me back 40 USD (270 RMB). Two Big Mac meals at terminal five of O'hare airport in Chicago would cost 12 USD plus tax. All the restaurants were basically empty at the dinner time.
Round-trip airport traffic
Metro Airport Line: One way: 25RMB/person About 40 minutes; the advantage is fast, not too many people. The disadvantage is that you have to go to the subway or taxi in the city, there are old people and children are not suitable, taxis are not good in the city.
Airport bus: The advantage is cheap, the disadvantage is that it is time to start the car and it is not easy to find the people on the train.
Taxi: One-way trip about 100 RMB. It is very good to call the airport. From the airport to the city, there is a place where taxis are lined up on the next floor of the airport. The disadvantage is that if it is a late flight or a big holiday, the queues usually take 40~50. minute. However, if there is a need for assistance (elderly, children, pregnant women), you can find a staff member with a red belt on your body, you can arrange for you to arrange without a queue.
If you are seated in China Airlines, in the Terminal 3, Business Class has an exclusive check-in area, the service is very good, open all day. Don't have to squeeze with other people.
Similarly, if it is China Airlines Beijing to Shanghai, in the third terminal, no matter what kind of cabin, there is Air China "Shanghai Express Line" exclusive check-in counter, security check and boarding gate, directly to the waiting room. Soon, there is no need to wait.
Other airlines, regardless of the domestic and international cabins, are in the central large group of check-in counters. Many people usually have holidays, especially on holidays. It is recommended to take the opportunity to check-in two hours before the counter.
After registering in the middle of Terminal 3, you will enter from the flight entrance. You will go to the next level to take the so-called shuttle bus to the security check, exit and back room. About 5~10 minutes
After getting off the bus, I first passed the customs. I can get the Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan Pass (Taiwan Pass) and the local counters can be arranged abroad, but there are always many people in the foreign countries. It is also about 5~10 minutes.
After the customs, it is the most time-consuming security check. There are always many people, and it takes at least 20~30 minutes to pass the security check. If you are in business class or bring a child, there is an exclusive security checkpoint on the far left, and you will be lined up "slightly".
There is no seat in the check-in hall (before the entrance to the plane) in the entire Terminal 3. Very few. There are several restaurants on the second floor, all of which are good to eat, and there are many people. It is recommended to go to the airport to report directly to the waiting room and have a chair to rest. There is free wifi in the waiting room. If you have a mainland mobile phone, you can use the mobile phone number to receive the online password. If you don't have a mainland mobile phone, you can go to the service desk to have a password.
The VIP room of Terminal 3 is a little away from the security check. It is a VIP room for China Airlines. It should be used by Air China on most of the airlines in the entire terminal. On the second floor, the venue is very large. However, there are many people, and it is often necessary to join other people. Things are good to eat, there are many kinds, and the whole can not be very Nice.
Entering or leaving Hong Kong at Terminal 3 is to reverse the exit procedure, but less security. It is worth mentioning that the entrance counters are all in the same place. The foreigners' counters are usually very many people. The Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan passes can go to the counters of local people. There are a lot of people, just next door, just a little around. See, don't be deceived by the foreign ranks.
Because the entrance passers have to wait for the shuttle bus, and then come up after picking up the luggage, it usually takes 40~60 minutes to get the plane from the screen to the exit.
If there is no large baggage, it is recommended to go up and down the stairs in the entrance hall. The elevator usually has a lot of people waiting for a long time. The escalator is sometimes hidden behind a certain place, and it takes a few more steps to see it.
Give yourself plenty of time for check-in, immigration, security and getting to your gate. This place is huge!
Took the advice of fellow travellers about the lack of food after the security checkpoint, so dined in the main area behind the check in counters.
The airport is large, and signage design isn t the best, but still good enough. Despite it being the midst of winter, the indoor temperature was near scorching hot, reminiscent of a desert day, so be warned. A large portion of the shopping at the international gates area airside are currently under renovation/construction. That may be a contributing factor to the lack of F and B outlets. Water dispensers do exist, and hot/water is available for free. We also walked past a few vending machines, but ultimately, if you don t have lounge access, proper dinning options don t seem to be existing airside. The decorations are different, since they incorporated elements of the Long Corridor from the Summer Palace inside the airport.
Overall, it s relatively easy to navigate, and an automated train will take you to the gates that you will need. Just be sure of where to alight, as the domestic gates and international gates are separated.
City in the city. Look at the signs to not get lost. And getting lost here is very simple.
Grand.
Handsomely.
Impressive.
Very convenient airport. Great service and very helpful people. Even compared to Europe.
Very good airport, the transit visa needs some focus, it took 2 hours from my presious time to wait in the line. Otherwise it is well organized, all signs are in english as well!
I had a two layovers in T3-E, one for just an hour and another for nine. It was freezing cold in the airport, and none of the shops sell blankets or anything, just overpriced cologne and booze that are marked up more than you'll save on duty tax.
The WiFi login is impossible to understand, even if you can read Mandarin, and once you get on it's painfully slow.
Despite being the international terminal, virtually none of the staff speaks English, something that I would feel arrogant complaining about if it wasn't for the other major Asian airports like Bangkok, where much of the staff were fluent.
There are few food options, and what's there is just crappy fast food like KFC and PizzaHut. If they were to replace one of the ten or so identical duty free stores with a decent restaurant and provide some place to sit, things would be greatly improved.
The terminal hourly hotel doesn't allow advance booking and was completely booked up when my flight arrived there at 8am and never yielded.
Even though my flight was a transfer I had to go through immigration, quarantine control, and security checks that almost made me miss my first connection.
Flights change gates without PA announcements, and the airport is absolutely massive. Running is frequently essential.
For some reason there was security at the gate itself as we were getting onto a bus that took us out to the plane on the runway, and they were making people throw out bottled water that was purchased inside the airport (we had already gone through airport security) but were not going through bags (serious loophole?) so we just stuffed our bottled water into our bags.
Many of the larger planes seem to deplane directly onto the runway and passengers are loaded up on buses which then drive into the terminal. This means going outside in Beijing, which was on a level red pollution warning or something when I passed through, and breathing the air literally burned/hurt and you're greeted by airport staff wearing gas masks. It feels like nuclear fallout.
The one saving grace was the BGS lounge, which I paid 270 yuan ($40 roughly) to get into and they had food (yummy udon noodle soup), coffee, beer, soda, blankets, comfy chairs, and a nice business area. That being said, this is China, so getting any work done with the Great Firewall in your way is virtually impossible, and with the slow WiFi, getting on corporate VPN is difficult.
It could be deserve a zero star, I've traveled a lot and no doubt Beijing is the worst of them. Insane check in, horrible experience.
ONE OF THE WORST AIRPORTS IN THE WORLD. I have transferred twice there (international and domestic) and I very much did not enjoy it. Chaos in line. First flights to Beijing always delay. The people work in airport gave me an "express line sticker", so that I could go up to the gate without having to wait in line. However, there are hundreds of people who got stickers, so everyone was like squeezing and pushing each other. People who work at counters are indifferent at best, mean at worst. AND for some reason they put Hong Kong people to line up in the foreign line and international line so I had to separate with my friends. I was like??????????????????????
I was a little nervous going through customs and immigration the very first time, but it wasn't a horrible experience and the wait wasn't all that bad.
Worst experience ever. The staff here hate their job and above all they hate you. I thought LAX was really bad, this place is even worst. Avoid connecting flight here like plague.
ALL CHINA AIRLINES ARE REQUESTED TO START FLYING DIRECT TO (ATQ) AMRITSAR PUNJAB INDIA . ATQ IS FASTEST GROWING AIRPORT IN INDIA .
The airport is very beautiful! If this is your transfer station! You must reserve enough time to transfer! It s very likely that you won t be able to catch up in less than 90 minutes!
Was traveling via international transfer I stopped by to make at sure my luggage would make it. I was rudely responded that it has been transferred already. Upon arrival to my final destination I have discovered that my luggage stayed behind in Beijing airport.
Despite German airport control - transfer - repeated, meticulous, time-consuming check-up ... ??
no smoking area.
Unkind, mean, lazy, grubby airport everything in kfc pizza hut and another places are tastelesssss.
It's quite wide and it makes me confused. Convenience stores and lounges are all fully equipped, so it is very convenient. The cleanliness was normal, but the Wi-Fi was early.
Luxurious atmosphere, but the movement is chaotic, there is no one in the early hours of the morning, the team that has to wait for a long time.
Wifi is slow and no Google no Facebook thx to great wall..
Nice airport, but was quite cold when I visited, and it's a pity vending machines don't accept cards.
My experience was excellent. (Give extra time as this airport has added security and the several layers will add time to your check-in process.) Taxi service was well organized and efficient. Also, the express rail to/from downtown is inexpensive and very convenient. The Hainan Airlines lounge was well done with a "make to order" kitchen as well as a buffet, tea ceremony, and more! The service is excellent with plenty of staff ready to help make your experience a positive one.
This is a nice airport with only one drawback. As several have mentioned there is limited food and shopping so there is not much to do between flights unless you utilize one of the airline lounges at the airport.
This is literally the worst airport I ve ever been to. Security took an hour and a half, there are no monitors anywhere to tell you the status of your flight and you need to get a train to your gate. AWFUL AWFUL airport, if you have any choice avoid like the plague
.
It's little bit complicated to use.
Must wait 8 hours here. Fortunately, there is a Heineken bar.
Arrived in Terminal 2 which is not big as Terminal 3. Friendly staff, the immigration staff even greet me warmly, nice.
Don't forget to do fingerprint registration (for the first time entering China) and fill the arrival/departure card before queuing at immigration line.
Worst airport! No help from anyone. Going through security is worse enough and when you ask for help no one helps. Never flying to this airport again.
Terrible place to be if you have to transfer to another flight. The security screening team are slow and rude, every single person needs to check your passport for whatever reason. I had to run and tell them to hurry up because I literally have 50 minutes before my flight leaves.
I will do my best to never transfer or go to this airport again.
Nice modern airport. Passport control was efficient at 0345 in the morning. However, I had a bicycle as checked baggage and it was VERY slow being brought to the baggage claim area. Most every international I've been to has a station to receive oversized baggage that is attended and usually has a conveyor belt. At BJS, there is a small square marked by tape on the floor near the baggage carousel that is supposed to be the drop off. I had to wait over an hour for my bike. Even with asking people in the baggage area, no one was able to assist with getting it any sooner.
Departing at 12 midnight was very easy. There was no line at the ticket counter. Everything was done very efficiently and quickly although one or two more people working the line at passport control would've been appreciated.
You must take a train for a few minutes on arrival and departure so plan on it taking an additional 10 minutes to even get to the duty free shopping area from where you leave passport control.
Proximity to the city by car, again, off peak traffic hours, was 15 minutes and very easy.
This airport doesn't have the personality that Hong Kong or Bangkok or to a lesser degree even Tokyo, but maybe that was because of the times when I was arriving/departing. Besides a couple of glitches, it was very adequate.
This airport is huge and it is recommended to arrive early as check in queues and security screening queues can take awhile. Arrival to airport departure hall by car is also crowded. Security is strict as they will check every portable power banks, and confiscate ALL lighters and water. No smoking is allowed (no smoking rooms available) after once you enter the gate. Smoking only outside the airport. Distance to boarding gate can take awhile as you need to take a rail train to terminal 3 (2mins to Domestic gates, 4mins to International gates). Duty-Free shop has little cashiers. Customs clearance upon arrival to Beijing requires scanning of all fingers. Overall clean and big place.
huge airport, but little infrastructure to spend several hours of stopover. Possibility of obtaining a free visa for 6 days since January 2019. a taxi system takes you to Beijing (allow 45 min)
One of the worst service experiences of my life. Long story short.. nobody speaks english or cares about helping you out. The airport is super disorganized and feels chaotic. Nobody cares about helping you out. The staff are rude and cold. Don't transit through Beijing.
Long Story:
I was transitting through beijing to get to Ho Chi Minh city. I went to the transit visa desk and both the girls didnt speak any english. Pretty absurd since the are supposed to be helping forigners who need transit visas... They pointed me to queue into a line to enter the country (check your visa ect.). When i got to the front they pointed me to another area and said I couldnt enter. I finally got my visa issued after waiting in line there. When i came back to enter again the line had become crazy long. About 200 people at least. It took forever to get in. Then I discovered I had to take a train to get my baggage. Of course nobody spoke english so it was chaotic and difficult to find out where it was. Since we took 3 hours to just get there the lugagge was hauled off to a waiting area.
Doesnt end there.. we had to actually leave the airport through customs which took forever. Then re-enter the airport and go through security
Almost missed the flight to usa but staff there helped me to quickly go through the security.
Must be the worst customs and security check I have seen at any Airport. Absolute chaos. Allow a lot of extra time! As others have mentioned there is very little shops after the check, and when I finally got through customs they were all closed except a very small Starbucks. My recommendation might sound crazy but here goes: They give priority to people who's flights are leaving in the next 40mins. Since there is no shops beyond customs I would suggest checking in and sitting around until there is about a hour left, then go to trains, get in line at customs and jump the queue because you are "late" Just a idea...
Transit procedure is the worst I have ever experienced. First you have to go through a passport and boarding pass check. Then you were hoarded into a queue of about 25 people to go through a single lane of security check. This takes about 45 minutes for 25 people to be cleared. In this process, your passport and boarding pass is checked again, although it was checked 45 by another agent 25 yards away. Then you have to take everything out to go through the security check. The problem is the design of the belt. It is so short that it can hardly have more than 2 people at a time to unpack and pack things. They should have a longer belt system so that 4 people can comfortably unpack stuff. Maybe they could use the system used in Heathrow. But it literally took me more than 1 hour to complete from arrival to be out of security check. It is a zoo. Very inefficient.
Very large and busy. Watch out for the padlocks of your suitcases, if not the one with a red shield symbol, they simply break the locks and latches to gain access to the contents.
Beijing International Airport will eventually surpass Dubai's Al Maktoum Airport in cost, total square miles, and passenger and plane capacity. The airport's first phase was completed in time for the 2008 Olympiad. Further expansion is scheduled for completion by 2025. Terminal 1, designed by Zaha Hadid, incorporates a number sustainable design concepts in a futuristic building envelope.
Welcome to Beijing... Welcome to China... Don't forget to show your passport...
No ATM's, staff speak bad english and no smoking sections even though the airport is so huge. Very strict security controls, they have souvenier keychains that were pointed and electric fire thrown away. Good dining options and beautiful and clear architecture.
Perhaps this is the best airport where I've ever been. At its huge size, you still have to try to get lost. Everything is very logical and understandable. There are always free seats for waiting, free water. Prices in cafes and snack bars pleasantly surprise. Logistics at the highest level, all the staff is working clearly, the airport has not detected any disruptions.
Airport is nice and modern. Immigration was okay. Did fingerprints at machine first, then through passport control and then customs.
I got a sim card ahead of time on Amazon. I used my BofA ATM card to get some cash, which is needed to pay 25y for airport Express train. My atm card only worked at bank of China atm.
Developed as a gateway to the host city in 2008 during the Olympics, Beijing Airport's Terminal 3 is known to be one of the world's largest and advanced airports. The most striking feature of this airport is its dragon-like architecture, designed keeping in mind the Chinese traditions and colours. It has been designed by architecture company Foster + Partners to cater to 50 million passengers by 2020. Roof made of unifying canopy ensures that there is enough natural light for both creating accents as well as a source of daylight. To segregate different sections, airport has been divided into different colour zones. The terminal is also known to be one of the most energy efficient airports in the world as it hosts south-east orientated skylights that gain heat from the morning sun and ensure a warm temperature. It also has an integrated environment-control system that minimises energy consumption. The terminal, which was constructed in four years, was built using performance materials based on local availability, functionality, application of local skills and low-cost procurement.
Literally the worst airport I've ever been to. Dirty, slow, inefficient, the worst customer service, and overpriced. There is literally garbage on the ground. And the wifi? It's password protected, and they only give out passwords in certain areas. Even then, the wifi reception, speed, and compatibility is terrible. It might not even work for your phone.
Don't come through here. If you have no choice, be prepared for multiple slow security checks (even for international transfers), broken equipment, and walking very long distances, even within the same terminal. You'll need more time and patience to get through this garbage airport than any other airport I've ever been to.
Immigration and transfer are managed very badly. Shanghai Pudong is a much better choice for transferring to a connecting flight. Hope the new airport turns out much better than this one.
Good first impression of Beijing. Modern, clean with signage in English. Quick process getting through security (& Fingerprint registration) to baggage then to taxi. Well designed, spatious functional & without any litter. Everything in working order.
Very clean and crowded but overall the facilities is good
Beautiful this airport
Fantastic facilities
If I can give zero stars I would.
I have encountered Beijing airport 2 times this year and I vow never ever ever to fly via this airport in future.
Queues for transfers beyond a joke. Waited an hour, to have my bag searched for the second time to then realise that it was the most unorganized chaos I have ever seen. It seemed okay for people to push in front and be allowed to do so. I had 3 men push ahead of me on the x-ray machine and the staff member said "it's Ok!"
On my journey to my destination my bag went missing at Beijing airport also.
The airport is huge, nobody wishes to help you. Staff don't Talk, acknowledge or even smile in your direction.
Both times, I was late catching my connecting flight.
DO NOT TOUCH ANY RAILS!!!! Because I held the rail on the translators to find my hand had turned black with dirt after.
Definitely my worst airport experience.. it's a real shame for the airlines that are based here.
THE WORST AIRPORT EVER! I've been through here 3 times and every time I want to punch someone in the face! It has been the same experience every time I traveled through here. Terminal 2 is a mile away from the others and you must leave the airport and get onto the highway to get to it. What a brilliant airport layout that is! And you must pay money to use the airport train, and it doesn't operate during night time hours. There is also a bus, but good luck getting someone to tell you anything about it. Taxi drivers won't take you there because they feel it's not worth their time monetarily.
Illegal taxi drivers are littered throughout the airport and all to eager to help. At an exorbitant fee of course! They always say 200 yuan but just before pulling into the terminal it always changes to dollars. Because by their logic they had to get onto the highway. So that means more money.
The staff is even more corrupt than the illegal taxi drivers! No one knows anything or understands any English unless you are offering money. Then they become so helpful and friendly! And they immediately pour on the pressure about how there is little time to get to the other terminal and you must take a private VIP taxi! They even start fighting amongst each other to see who can sponge the most money out of you. It's ridiculous that they expect to be handsomely rewarded for doing their job!
I have been to over 30 different airports around the world and this is by far the worst one I have ever been through. If you don't feel like dealing with extra unnecessary stress and hassle, then I would avoid this airport at all costs! I really expected more from the capital city of China!
Very big airport with nice architecture. Although our flight was delayed 1 hour, we were able to board swiftly when the time came. There is a train that will take you from terminal to terminal so watch your time if you are flying internationally. The food choices and prices were also quite reasonable, I had a fresh pizza at this Italian style joint for about $7 CAD or so. It was also decently easy to navigate if you did not read Chinese.
Find the layout and signs confusing. Entry buttons are very thorough and therefore it is slow progress here with rush. Fingerprints must be submitted. Onward flight missed because Gate for Domestic Transfer was too far away from Arrivals gate. If possible, allow plenty of time.
Big international airport with 3 terminals. Between terminals is possible to go with shuttle buses (for free, every 15 minutes).
Electric plug are available in the airport. Problem is lack of plase to sit. Smoking area is only outsite the airport.
Would give it 5 stars because of nostalgic memories, but there are flaws. Staff was OK, restrooms were decently clean but the lines were unbearable and horribly handled in some parts.
It is big to take a tram in the airport. The crowd is rushing into the tram and paying attention to safety.
With a stopover with a changeover time of just under an hour, you have to rush from one end of the booth to the other. And queuing at the checkpoint. Hab.mich asked if our luggage could handle the envelope. Of course it didn't and would be delivered 3 days later
The worst airport I've ever had to go to. Many signs only in Chinese, staff absolutely rude and incompetent. The most pitiful thing was that we had to search for someone who spoke only 3 straight sentences in English for 20 minutes. A no-go at one of the largest international airports. Better pay more in the future to avoid Beijing.
Misc complaints:
You have to take a bus to get between terminals.
They would put you on a cold bus after the boarding pass check at the gate, and leave you there for a long, long, time, before taking you to the plane.
If you are transferring planes, to go somewhere international, you do not follow the international transfer sign, you follow the exit sign.
Lounges at T2 are good. There are no lounges at T1.
I often fly Air China so I'm often connecting at Beijing capital from London to Shanghai. I always enjoy connecting here, its easy and quick. Very friendly staff and well laid out. Always very clean too. Good amount of shops, food stores & great felicities. Metro link from the airport to Beijing city center is quick and easy too!
Been through this airport over a hundred of times and have to say its pure garbage. Customer service is beyond awful, WiFi is pathetic at best and the food options are non-existent. Airport lounges are the worst of any airport I have been too which is a shame because the chances of your flight actually leaving on time are pathetically low. Hopefully the new airport they are building South of Beijing will be an improvement because this one is pure ass.
High-tech system
Face recognition is intensive!
The very last. I was detained here for 14 hours because I was denied the transit visa due to a Turkish stamp in the passport. They even threatened to send me back to North Korea (though they will certainly treat you better as a foreigner)
There was nothing to eat in the arrivals area of the T2 and only a vending machine with a limited selection. China? Never again!
It is the best and most beautiful place and good airport in China
Check in is a little long as airport is crowded, but what international airport isn't. Many shops, good prices even for airport shop.
The worst airport I ever been, the guy who was checked our passport he don t even speak proper English, so a lot of people confused, so they don t understand what he talked about, so they being slow , that guys said : those people is stupid. He thinks we don t understand Chinese, but I can understand that. Not just one , all of them a rude and loud
This is a huge airport, and the distance between Terminal 3 of international flights and other terminals of domestic flights is considerable. The building has a modern design, but the details are the image of China.
Security is unusually tight, and it takes a long time to get the contents of the coin purse, open the contents of the skin cream, etc., and I wonder if it is necessary to look there.
Went to South Korea on transit at Beijing international Airport . It was huge and efficient .
The security check here is the worst.
Aiming at high-class creams and perfumes in your checked baggage, in the name of inspection
It was opened in the bag, and all the contents were taken out and it was in a sloppy state.
The cheap cream wasn't done at the same dose, and the shampoo was okay, so it's obviously intentional.
I don't think it's necessary to give the whole dose
Where is the need to sprinkle its contents inside a suitcase?
Furthermore,
The women's underwear was also messed up, and the men's underwear remained in order.
Isn't the video recorded?
Be careful everyone.
