Really good barbecue. I got the pulled pork and it was delicious. I love that they have a selection of sauces at the table so you can mix and match if you like. A little disappointed that the menu says you can substitute hush puppies for corn bread but you actually can't

Well cooked but unspiced pork. If you hate strong flavors, this is your bbq joint. I went to Porkapalooza and couldn't find even a token bottle of Texas Pete to balance the sweet and or bland flavors of pretty much everything. I know I like my food spicier than most, but it isn't asking too much for there to be hot sauce on the table.

This is great BBQ. Pork belly was especially good and sides were excellent. Their wait is pretty crazy though. Luckily we got lucky and came right before it got crazy. However, within minutes of our arrival, people were waiting out the door. They could definitely an efficiency lesson. Too many fried foods on the menu and it slows it down.

We got the Purgatory sandwich and a pork BBQ platter with collards and baked beans. The sandwich was amazing. The BBQ was also great. Baked beans were a little too sweet and didn't have the rich bbq flavor I usually get with baked beans at a BBQ place. The sauces were all delicious and I liked the cakey-sweet cornbread. Got some Cole slaw for the BBQ and it was fresh and tasty but could use a smidge more dressing. I highly recommend the Purgatory sandwich, it is delicious. Messy, but delicious. Finished up with a banana pudding. It was also great.

My only nitpick would be the service in the ordering line. I had never been there before and there is a lot to take in before ordering. In NC, where I live, most places will give you a scoop of Cole slaw with a BBQ sandwich or platter, but they required it to count as a side. They offer a free taste, which is a ramekin with a little Cole slaw, but they didn't mention this to me when was asking. The service just felt rushed and impersonal, which is the exact opposite of what you expect to get in a small restaurant in the South. It wasn't bad service, just not great.

Great BBQ joint in Gordonsville. Great stop on a winery trip or if your one drive to Charlottesville or just driving around. Everything on the menu is great - friendly staff. Highly recommend if in the area or even as destination.

Better than average BBQ sandwich. I received fast service, a large portion and ate in a clean space. Good variety of table sauces and lots of paper towels right there. So why not an excellent review? The pork was chopped and not pulled. Even though I could see what appeared to be the red color of smoke I could not taste hickory nor see the dark end bits that showed me it had been near a fire. There was no sign nor smell of a smoker on the premises. When I walked in I saw an Ice cream counter and a menu board full of deep fried items from a box store. The bun it was served on tasted like raw dough. For a $7 sandwich I can do better elsewhere.

These guys are doing it right! Not sure how anyone could give this place a bad review. We also got a full Thanksgiving spread from them and truly enjoyed it. After 10+ visits it is consistently d-lish.

Located at a cross road approximately in the middle of no where. One of the best bbq joints I have ever been too. I ate the platter with brisket and pulled pork. Both were amazing but brisket is very difficult to pull off correctly. Their brisket is the best I have ever had. Thought the cornbread was excellent. Cannot go wrong here if you happen to be in the neighborhood.

We love BBQ Exchange. My daughters have been dancing at the local studio of a while so we have eaten here quite a bit. Good pulled pork. It's nice to be able to sit outside when the weather is not so hot and watch the sunset and local traffic go by.

Quite literally one of the best barbecue spots I've ever been to. Plenty of people talk about how great the various things they have are, but the things that really stood out were they extreme variety in the menu, the unusual but incredible seasoning of the ribs, and of course all of the meats were amazing, but even the sides. The potato salad, baked beans, the hushpuppies, it was all above expectation. When even the sides make you go "wow", that's when you know you're in the right place.

Consistently good just gets better and better over time.

Best pork I've had, and the sauces complement it. Had the pleasure of dining care of Craig's hand at Fossett's a while back and really glad now can experience his production more regularly.

I really enjoy bringing the undressed meat home by the pound and toasting my roll/bun - but the platters and sides are awesome as well.

Very popular hangout, and no matter the length of the line, always worth it.

Cheers.

Solid BBQ but not anything special. Ribs were tender but simple and bland. 5 varied sauces are provided at the table though. Pulled pork was good. Spicy coleslaw was hot but not particularly savory. Service was straightforward, not courteous, but not bad. Menu choices and combos are unusually complex. I would go here again if passing through town but would not make a special trip.

Awesome BBQ! Great selection of complimentary sauces, nice casual atmosphere. The owner made it a point to stop and talk to most of the tables during the lunch rush while we were there. Truly a man who cares about his customers.

Great barbecue and sides. You can eat here inside or out on picnic tables with all the amenities including several types of sauces.
The barbecue comes on platters or small and large buns. You can also order have chicken. especially of the house are hush puppies. The food is served cafeteria style.
There may be a long line on holidays or special occasions but the service is excellent and the line moves right along.
Gordonsville is an historic area of Virginia with many nice shops and a beautiful setting. We go there every year and every time it's been enjoyable.

It has excellent barbeque and fresh, hot fries. Order cafeteria style with items listed on a large board. Some items change daily. There's limited seating, no access for wheelchairs because of several stair steps, and is closed on Sundays.

I know most people give this place 4-5 stars, but it didn't quite do it for me. The staff was certainly friendly and helpful, but the bbq just wasn't the best. There just wasn't any wow factor making me want to come back. Maybe I happened to order the wrong thing? Let me say, this place was PACKED! Every seat was taken on a Sunday afternoon, and there was always a line of 10 people ordering takeout, so I wouldn't go off of my opinion alone when deciding whether to visit. Also on the downside, they have one of those old-fashioned rolling towel devices in the bathrooms (ick), and the Mrs Pac Man game in the corner is the regular, not Turbo, version.

Even though they were busy and always are, you receive your food quickly. The food itself is very good. It is hard to choose a favorite. If you order a platter be prepared for a lot of food! You may want to share one. The pork belly, basically thick fatty bacon, is incredible but very rich. The ribs are also very thick and rich. They have a garlic buttery coating which adds to the rich taste. I had a hard time eating 4 bones. My favorite sides are the super cheesy and creamy Mac & Cheese along with the beans which are more tomatoey with chunks of brisket. I prefer the corn bread although it is served room temperature. Try the different sauces that are available at the table. The ambiance is nice with pine picnic tables inside or out, paper towel rolls at your table for napkins. Be aware that the bathrooms are unisex.

Stopped in after day on frigid Massanutten slopes and was very pleasantly surprised m. Tried their signature pulled pork sandwiches, kids had tenders meal. The fries were best I ve ever had, even strips were soft flaky and real unlike 98% of places you get em at. The line was long, an indicator of its popularity, but moving at a crisp rate and we had our order in no time. Loved their pulled pork, BBQ sauces. Fried green tomatoes were alright, had better but overwhelmingly the quality of food was spectacular and real. Their piggy was soft, juicy and tender, not dry and lifeless as we ve had at other places in south: I have another excuse to ski Massanutten so that I can stop in and try their ribs next. Their bean soup was phenomenal, the other we tried was a Brunswick that was just okay, definitely not bad but akin to a more natural chili. Overall very impressed with place and quaint little Gordonsville s delightful main street.
