Almost passed by without stopping. So glad we didn't. Everything is homemade. My husband ordered the beans, I don't like beans and I was eating these baked beans. Bbq pork belly is out of this world. Don't pass on the desserts, peanut butter pie is amazing!

Waddling. That is what me, and my family were doing after we ate at the Barbecue Exchange. Waddling from the tender brisket, the fantastic hush-puppies, the perfectly executed corn bread, and the best collard greens that I have had at a restaurant to date.

Other barbecue joints have a lesson to learn from this place, and if you believe in treating yourself, then you have a meal here waiting for you!

They have some amazing food. It's a little bit on the price your side but it's worth it. They have some delicious homemade pickles. We were visiting for a week and ended up getting there twice. Wants to go and once in store. love the fact that their tablecloths are all made out of paper so that my son could draw on them and keep him busy while we ate

After hearing alot of people rave about this place, we thought we'd give it a try. Really not impressed, unfortunately. The pork was good, but the ribs had an odd taste. There were 6 different sauces on the table, but I swear they all tasted the same! The only difference was the level of heat and the color. The coleslaw was okay. I also ordered mac and cheese, which was not good. It tasted like and had the consistency of Stouffers frozen mac & cheese. The cornbread was meh. Was really in the mood for some really good BBQ and this just wasn't it. Sorry :(

The Barbeque Exchange is a small place on the side of the road as you drive in to a quiet town. Don't let that fool you though, come by at the right time of day and you'll find yourself in the middle of a community hotspot!

They've got a fairly sized menu with loads of fantastic food, but if it's a challenge you are looking for they're also the home to the infamous Hell On A Bun.

All around a great place to stop alone or with the family.

This is a great gem that people travel to from all around, if you want some of the best BBQ in Virginia this is the place to go. Every time I am in the area this is a must visit location. They have great pork BBQ and brisket, I really enjoy their pork belly also. Service is always prompt and friendly. Parking is somewhat limited but never seems to be a problem as people are always coming and going.

Real Southern Barbeque

Real Southern Barbeque
This is a meat lover's paradise. All meats are smoked on premisses. Back ribs are dry-rubbed. Brisket (both chopped and sliced) is jucie and fork tender. Pulled pork would make N. Carolinians resume their never ending argument about the proper sauce to use. The roasted chicken is something between roasted and [southern] fried.
The BBQ sauces range from vinegar to sweet and sour. Don't look for the"red stuff": you will not find it; it's a southern BBQ.
Fried pickles and fried green tomatoes make you want to make a meal out of them. 'Slaw come in several varieties and make it tough choice. Collard greens are one of the best we tried. The biscuits would make any southern cook proud.
If there anything that is not perfect, it's their Mac and Cheese (we suspected it's store-bought) and green beans. But even even the best are entitled to a miss.
Oh, and don't forget about their cup cakes; they are sinful.
We live a half-an-hour drive from the restaurant; it's worth the ride.

:: GREAT BBQ & SMOKE MEATS & VEGGIES ::
I had the pulled pork, the beef brisket sliced, and the pork belly, with the spicy coleslaw and peppered cabbage.
The pulled pork was juicy, the beef brisket was nice and smokey, and the pork belly was just amazing - crispy with great seasoning.
Best surprise was the spicy coleslaw - imagine spice of kimchi but southern.

wonderful BBQ, quite possibly the best BBQ experience I have had in Virginia thus far. Ate myself silly, until I could not breathe anymore. Brisket, pulled pork, coleslaw, beans (and I am not a huge fan of beans), mac and cheese, cornbread....all served with a great array of sauces from sweet southern to more vinegary carolina. amazing

My family and friends absolutely love this place! The staff alone deserves 100 for the care that is shown for their costomers from the moment you walk in all the way until you leave! The food is awesome as well. The best barbeque ever. I go on,get aways often and I always chose the Gordonsville area and never leave without going in and eating at this great hometown restaurant.

I had Heaven on a Bun...It was pretty tasty for sure! Apparently it was seen on Fire and Man or some such TV show. Fried egg, delicious bacon, and beautiful pulled pork on a bun slathered with baconaise, lettuce, and tomato. I had it with the hush puppies - delicious! My husband copied my order and we had a family size side of mustard based potato salad, single serving size of the pasta salad, and our 5 yr old went with the macaroni and cheese. The mac and cheese was the most disappointing in that the sauce tasted slightly gritty as if it had been cooked over too high of heat. It really didn't stop me from enjoying it. We went early (11am) and it was already filling up fast so I suggest be prepared for a wait or arrive just as it opens. Outside seating is nice through the truck traffic is quite loud. They do have beer/wine (Try the Bold Rock!) and the usual lemonade, sweet tea, and sodas.

I'm the kind of person that prefers to eat vegetables and pasta for the majority of my meals, usually can't say anything positive about meat(unless my husband grills it)...that is until today. Wow! The chicken BBQ was phenomenal, my mouth is literally watering from thinking about it. My husband had me try a piece of his pork that fell off his heaping sandwich...it was fantastic. The hush puppies are so golden brown with a crispy outside and seasoned, tender inside. This place is a must to go to!!!

Counter service with the emphasis on Service. The kind of menu that makes you want one of each. Between 4 of us we sampled most of the offerings. The ribs were so tender and juicy! Pulled pork and chicken awesome! Wings were great with Craig's Carolina sauce. Fried green tomatoes OMG! All the sides were great, but the beans didn't disappear. Desserts: rediculous!
Wish I could get this delivered to New England!

Awesome pulled chicken bbq and sides. Everything was great except for the cornbread. I'm used to southern buttermilk cornbread out of a cast iron skillet. Their cornbread is more of a northern style that was yellow meal, golden brown, smooth consistency and lots of sugar. It tasted like a yellow cake rather than cornbread. So if you're used to southern cornbread order a roll!!! Lol

Step onto their porch and into heaven. This is the best BBQ throughout the Commonwealth! Every item is cooked or prepared to perfection. Their pulled pork is wood smoked--exceptionally tender and flavorful. From the meat alone you can tell there is a master out back who knows what they are doing and loves their job.

The atmosphere is family picnic with a southern porch attached. Homemade sweet tea, outstanding hush puppies, and the biggest sliced absolutely impeccable fried green tomato you will ever have are just some of the delicacies on their menu. The coleslaw recipe was made to place atop the pulled meat (like they do in Carolina), not as a side dish. It's crispy, cool, not overloaded with dressing. Everything is in balance.

When you take your seat, you'll see a six-pack of squeeze bottles. If you've been to places like Red Hot and Blue or Mission BBQ, you know these are the sauces. These are the condiments that either make or break your meal. Here at the BBQ Exchange, they are a homage to the quiet, but enduring traditional identities of Virginia barbeque. Forget Nashville, Memphis, and St. Louis. These sauces will teach you that Virginia was where BBQ began.

From the spicy to the sublime, you will taste the sweetness of the Piedmont, the vinegar tang of the coastal, and the Carolinian influence of mustard. It's part crossroads of flavor and part historical preservation. Somebody did their research!

If Google had six star reviews, the Barbeque Exchange most definitely would deserve it. Service, quality, expertise, knowledge, and heart is all under this roof.

Folks, in one sentence: BBQ doesn't get better than this.
