Great bbq! They were smoking bbq in the back while we were there. The food was great even though they were crazy busy. Could have been a little more friendly but like I said they were swamped and did a great job of keeping up.

It's always nice to pull up to a barbecue joint and see an actual smoker out back. The sliced brisket is excellent. The pulled pork is also very good. This is what a barbecue joint is supposed to be.

This BBQ came highly recommended. We ordered large sandwich combos and several sides. Perhaps we ve been spoiled by BBQ down in SC, but this was just not up to our standards. Even the smell was off-putting to me. I choked down 2 bites before I called it quits. It smells like they smoked the pork in rubber. The french fries, mac n cheese, and baked beans were my dinner, and those were good. Even the 2 different sauces we got for our sandwiches tasted good, it was truly just the pork we didn t like. I m just disappointed after all the hype that the BBQ itself didn t live up to expectations.

This was not my first experience at the Barbecue Exchange, but it will be my last. I've never been very impressed with their food. It's pricey, often the chicken is dry, and I don't care for some of their sides. But with out-of-town family looking for a "Virginia" experience, I thought I'd give them a shot.

The location is cramped and does not flow well. The amenities are picnic tables with butcher paper, paper plates, and plastic flat ware. Plan on about $12-$15 per plate...more if you want a beer.

I placed my order for a family meal with a few extras and paid. The cashier realized I was moving to a table and yelled across the room that I needed to pay an additional $5 "dine-in fee" if I planned on staying. I briefly considered paying, but changed my mind and proceeded to collect my wife and family to move to our car to tailgate. One of the out-of-town family members decided they didn't want to sit in the heat and paid the $5 so we call all eat together.

So, I guess The Barbecue Exchange got their $5 and I learned to go someplace else for BBQ with my family.

Not friendly...certainly not family friendly. Meh barbecue, OK sauces, crappy flow, paper plate mentality. I'd go someplace else.

The place lives up to its reputation and all the great reviews. I had the chopped brisket, which was delicious, as a platter that came with 2 sides (collards and slaw for me) and a pumpkin muffin (my bread choice) and choice of sauce.
I got to sample some other items that my family chose such as the pulled chicken and potato salad. My niece had the baked beans that looked awesome. I can t imagine anything on the menu that would not be great. Will return!

The best bbq anywhere, period. Chef Craig is an acclaimed five star chef and this is his retirement project. Killer wood smoked pork, chicken, and brisket from the Magic Shack out back. Buns made fresh daily. But the Heaven sandwich is where it's at-- pulled pork, bacon-naise, fried egg, bacon, potato chips, lettuce, tomato, and cheese. Or ask for belly pops (and then say thank you). Insanely good at incredible prices. And the little town is super quaint. Worth a drive.

The service was mediocre and so was the food. They only cared about the people who were picking up food and not the ones sitting there. The quality of the sandwich was poor. There are 20 other restaurants like this one; do yourself a favor and go to one of them instead.

Way, way overrated. Food is good but not amazing and overpriced in my opinion. I did really like the broccoli salad and the pumpkin muffin. Though my sister said it was too gingery for her tastes.

This was highly recommended to us by several friends, but we didn't care for their bbq. The baked beans were a little salty. Their corn bread was sweet but dry. We also didn't care for any of their sauces. Bbq can be pretty subjective based on your taste preferences. The place was packed and there was a rather long line to wait in to order. They did a wonderful job of keeping the line moving. Despite the crowd, there were still tables available inside and on the porch to sit and eat. Obviously many people like their bbq, but our family didn't care for it.

Anytime you roll up on a BBQ place, and there is a stack of wood and a guy cooking collards on an open fire..... You are winning in life. This place was delightful.

The food was really good, the people really friendly, and the setting really fun. We went out of the way, off of 64, and it was totally worth it.

Food is awesome.

Food is awesome.
Could take a little more time to remove the stems from the collard greens so the customers did not have to do that.

For a Native Texan and Barbeque officianiado the meat is fair and with the rest of the experience it rated a 4 star experience. The meat is best without any sauce! The sauces are not good. They are pretty much various forms of ketchup with varying amounts of vinegar and a little red pepper. The sides are excellent! The service is great. The restaurant itself is clean and is a good family-oriented place. Parking could be better. Getting in and out of the parking lot is tricky depending on the time of day. Pricing may seem high, but the amount of food received is commensurate. Drinks are bottled soft drinks and beer. Sweet and unsweetened tea are also available in cups with free refills. The bread is excellent. All of it is freshly made on site. I would have given 1/2 a star for this, but it wasn't an option. This restaurant is definitely worth stopping for!

Loved the pig Christmas tree!!! North Carolinians are pretty picky when it comes to our BBQ, and this place didn't disappoint. Brisket was full of smokey yummyness, and i couldn't figure out which flavor sauce was my favorite. My girls loved the pig decor especially my youngest! Highly recommended

This is a gem tucked into a beautiful historic town. Probably some of the best smoked ribs I have ever had. Huge variety on the menu. Decadent desserts. A little pricey, hut well worth it with generous portions served with a side of country kindness. And good sweet tea, which is a must at a southern BBQ place.

Food was SOOOO good. I got brisket and pulled pork platter with collard greens and Mac n cheese. If you love Mac n cheese you will fall in love with there's. It's rich and creamy. My mom got pulled pork and ribs with coleslaw (if you don't get a sandwich then coleslaw isn't included) and Mac n cheese. We got a side order of the hush puppies which were delicious. I got a chunck of cornbread which I was worried I wouldn't like because I think everyone has there own idea of how it should be cooked but that was perfect in my opinion. My mom got a muffin. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone looking for a good BBQ and sides. They have tons of options to choose from as far as meats sides platters & sweets.

Using Google maps I ended up on a gravel road leading into what looked like a log sawing place. Found a gas station that told me to go down Main Street under the tracks and it would be on the left just past the bank. So to me, it s on Main St.
