I'm updating my rating. Below is the original text. However, since the procedure, the Dr has been very good about following up to see how my puppy was doing. The Dr. has stayed in touch and responded to my emails when I had questions and is providing some remote advice as we determine what to do regarding the adult teeth. So I've raised my rating from 1 star to 3 stars.

Original review: I rarely write reviews but this was Very poor customer service. Drop off procedure if you have any questions is unbelievably long - Took two hours from 6am to 8am. Then they didn t start the procedure until 1pm. Our puppy was probably crated the entire time in a terrible stressful situation (they refused to describe where he was kept for 5 hours and kept forwarding me to a voicemail). The day before they said he would go first because it isn t healthy for puppies to have to fast that long. I guess getting the revenue in the door that day was the priority over providing a good service to the puppy.
After doing more research it was clear they downplayed the risks of major complications of this procedure, and did not give any other alternatives of treatment despite various other literature indicating there are other treatment possibilities. They also gave postoperative instructions that are unrealistic, like asking us to stop a puppy from doing any chewing for two weeks without any specific methods to do this aside from constantly watching him or crating him . I think they have a strong focus on trying to do as many surgeries as possible. Will update once we see how recovery goes.

Knowlegeable and caring staff. The whole staff was excellent. They were concerned that Pepper was comfortable with all aspects of her visit. Everyone kept me informed of Pepper's test results and were very willing to discuss treatment options

Very bad behavior. Money money money. Playing with peoples emotions. $150.00 for the E.R. Then, $65.00 more to see a vet, and then any blood work, etc...would be extra still! We went in, we paid $150.00 for the emergency vet fee. We waited an hour, then they took us to another room, they wanted $65.00 for a "non-specialist Doctor" to act as a "liaison" between us and the specialist. Meanwhile, the specialist was right there in the back room. They had plenty of time to discuss cremation options, but not a second to even just look at my pet who had just passed. We just wanted to make sure that our other pet was okay. Both of these pets were already patients of record mind you, they have medical histories on file, which is supposed to make emergency visits more expedient. I found their actions and behavior to be very insincere, from the front desk to the meeting with the Vet. Very disappointing.

We had a walk-in visit to the emergency room, so the wait was very long and we were there all day. However, all the staff from the receptionists to the vet to the clinician were very professional and communicative. They were great about letting us know about our placement in line, and what next steps/plans of care for our cat were.

The staff are so accommodating and caring whenever we have to go there; it really makes the experience much less stressful. All of the staff I've interacted with clearly really care about the animals they are working with, which I deeply appreciate, and do their absolute best to make sure that you have a good experience.

The check-in process was fast and efficient. I felt like the staff were very warm and welcoming. I feel like my dog was in good hands once I stepped into the facility. I appreciate the thorough analysis of my dog's condition. Dr. Trout answered all of my questions in extreme detail and the follow up calls were appreciated.

Dr. Casale and her whole team provided outstanding service during our recent visit to have a tumor biopsied. Dr. Casale spent a generous amount of time reviewing the CT scan with me and explaining the surgical procedure she had just performed. Good communication and reasonable fees. Thank you for such an excellent experience!

I waited for days for a dr. to return my phone call regarding a pet product information and no call back so I decided to buy it anyways. After I paid $60 for the food, the food caused my kitties to vomit and mind you the point of having this dr prescribed food is so that they won't be vomiting. Horrible service, and cost a fortune to take your pet to this place. They do not care about the animal, only about the money.

Totally excellent care and communication, even in emergency situations. It was pretty quiet when we went in, but my dog was seen in a timely manner. The vet explained everything related to my dog's issue to me and didn't pressure me into services that I thought were unnecessary. Although it was a couple hundred dollars, it was an emergency visit and I was prepared to pay whatever the cost. I was really satisfied with the care my dog received and the customer service that I was given. They didn't judge me at all for the situation and I'm grateful that I have access to emergency pet care so close to home.

Emergency care of one of my dogs was required after 2 coyotes were encountered and attacked. From my first frantic phone call to the next day hospital discharge the staff helped me to understand and deal with the situation. They were all great, knowledgeable, and compassionate showing tremendous care of my dog and me. A great place. The 24 hour emergency medical department is a wonder. I would not have known what to do or where to go for care if I had not known of Angell. Thank you Angell Animal Medical Center.

The vet that saw my cat Timothy at Angell West (Dr. Hamilton) was great-- clearly explaining the issues and tests and eventually the surgery that was needed. She oversaw his transfer to the main Angell campus for surgery. While I didn't meet the surgeons, the surgery (cystotomy) went very well, and Timothy is recovering beautifully. Discharge instructions were clear, and when I had questions after taking him home, the vets on staff called back promptly and responded carefully to my questions. I appreciate the vets taking the time to explain the issues and the vet techs' going over the discharge instructions with me. I also appreciate everyone's understanding of one's deep attachment to one's animals.

" Staff was incredibly friendly. My dog was very sick when we arrived and the staff moved incredibly quickly to figure out what was wrong! This was a very scary visit and the doctor took the time to answer my questions and never came across as annoyed, she was gracious and guided me through my decision making. Staff in intensive care was also very friendly and let me know how my dog was doing when I asked and never seemed annoyed. Even though it was a stressful situation the ENTIRE staff was amazing! From the person that greeted me at the desk, to the vet techs, to the lady that spoke with me about billing, to the wonderful doctors and then the lady at reception when my dog was discharged. Just the friendliest vet staff I have ever encountered. The way people spoke to me, no one was every judging me for being worried about paying for my dog's care, they just wanted to help. "

When I first arrived I was greeted by a friendly welcoming staff member, so that was very comforting. Also they took really good care of Stormy and provided Me with all the knowledge i needed to make sure Stormy was well taken care of after her visit. The price for the service was the best of all. It's so nice how they offer this service to the families who are in need of it but might not can't afforded the treatment cost. Also they donated a beautiful kennel due to stormy not having one. Their service is Amazing and I would highly recommend Angel to everyone who cares for a pet! THANK YOU for everything! And just again I love the fact that Angel makes the procedures affordable!!!!!

I HAVE BEEN A LONG TERM CLIENT OF ANGELL AND HAVE GREAT RESPECT FOR THE KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERTISE OF THE PHYSICIANS AND TECHNICIANS. EMPLOYED AT ANGELL. EXCEPT FOR THE DISAPPOINTMENT I EXPERIENCED AT MY LAST ENCOUNTER, I DO KNOW THAT IT WAS AN EXCEPTION TO THE USUAL ENCOUNTERS I HAVE EXPERIENCED OVER THE PAST 30 YEARS WITH THREE DIFFERENT DOGS AND NUMEROUS AND VARIED PERSONNEL PRICES HAVE RISEN TO EXORBITANT LEVELS OVER THOSE 30 YEARS AND I FIND MYSELF QUESTIONING IF IT IS TIME FOR ME TO SEEK ANOTHER COMMUNITY HEALTH CENTER IN THE NEIGHBORHOOD THAT OFFERS MORE REASONABLE CHARGE SCHEDULES FOR VERY ROUTINE CARE.

I can't express how thankful my family and I are to MSPCA-Angell for the superb euthanasia service they provided for our elderly cat. We set up an appointment by phone and came in the next day. We were brought to the beautiful serene family meditation room, where Dr. Katz performed the painless procedure. We held our sweet feline until his last breath. They gave us the paw print and a wonderful poem. We will be forever grateful to Dr. Katz and the entire MSCPA-Angell staff for their exceptional professionalism and commitment to animal well-being.

I regret taking my 17 year old dog to Angell Animal Medical Center. Do NOT take your pet here if you want compassionate geriatric care.

Dr. Johnson took care of our elderly dog and admitted her to their ICU for IV fluids and an antibiotic. When we decided to take our frightened dog home - she objected. She told use that if we brought her home then her treatment would be considered a "failure." She even had us sign a "leaving against medical advice" form!

Taking an elderly dog who cannot see or hear out of her cage and back home is NOT contrary to good care. How dare she suggest such a thing? She defined "treatment failure" by her own standards. That is poor care.

We love the MSPCA. When we called to see if we should bring our dog in to the ER, the staff member was very knowledgeable and empathetic. When we got there, she remembered us from the phone and immediately brought a tech out for triage. Dr. Pena was lovely throughout the whole process. She treated our pup with kindness and love and wonderful care. You guys are truly the BEST! All of the specialists on-site and expertise available. We always leave knowing that we had the best vets available to treat our 4-legged child. The facilities are lovely, with nice places to walk the dog outside, free coffee, and vending machines. The waiting areas are very well lit and we love that you offer free treats and water for the pups.

I have mixed reviews on Angel. They have saved the life of one of my ferrets, they have tried to rip me off financially and I dislike the head of Exotics, last time I was there. The Exotica department has been lacking since DR.Orcutt left. I think you have to go in with your feet on the ground and know when they are just trying to pump you for money. So hard to keep this focus when you are trying to make decicions to save the life of a fur family member and THEY KNOW AND TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THIS in my opinion!!!! All in all watch your billing and watch the head of the exotics department.by this I mean her arritude was condescending and horeiable in my opinion. Know they are a business and you will not get the sympothy or comfort you need when trying to save your fur kids life. You WILL spend a lot of money. In the end I think the survival of your fur kid and cost will depend on the vet that you get and if they lost their compassion or not. My fur kids lives are priceless, that dose not mean I should be financially takes advantage of on some of the worst times. Angell dose this in my opinion. I will soon have my first experience with them on. Non emergency basis. I am hoping that there will be a better feeling when walking out the door. I also think they need to take into consideration that we live with these animal kids ever single day!! We sometimes know what is going on and just need a formaal sx and treatment. They should start testing with your input not go down the list of their money making protocols. Had they listened to me then several of my ferrets lives may have been saved.

It is like the Mass General of veterinary facilities in Boston. Facilities and vets are extremely skilled at what they do. Dr. Laste and her team were great. They thorough explained all relevant material to our dog's upcoming heart surgery, answered all of our questions, and were very thoughtful and kind throughout the process. The kindness of the vets, assistants, and staff were exceptionally. Ultimately, we aren't at the facility because we want to be, we're having a problem addressed, but all parties made the process easier and more comfortable.

The reception was prompt, the "nurse" came within a few minutes and the doctor soon after. When you are worried about your pet, this speed matters, no matter whether the diagnosis is serious or routine.

The doctor seemed to grasp quickly all the elements of the problem, rank their seriousness and propose treatments in priority order, again, a valuable set of sequences under the circumstances. Prompt, orderly response.

Emergency surgery to remove a foam earplug from my cat's intestine through the stomach. Staff and surgeon were very professional and kept me updated every step of the way. Lucky's incision healed nicely within the week and he was back eating within a day. The billing sequence is confusing and I need to follow up on it. Newsflash to cat owners: CATS LOVE EARWAX!!! The tech that brought Lucky out to me told me that his cat was always chewing up his Dad's hearing aids. My neighbors cats had a taste for earbuds that her daughters left around. The receptionist at my vets office said her cat was always rummaging in the bathroom baskets for Q-tips! Earplugs are now banned in our house and hearing aids put away in a box every night. Be warned!

You'll get all your needs met. If you need a regular vet, they have a lot of really good ones. If you need a specialist, they've got that covered. And when you've got an emergency, they're always there. Since we were fearing that our dog might be bloating, the staff came right out for a quick check. Once it looked like it probably wasn't, they prioritized us behind more urgent matters, which was fine by us.

The moment I walked in I knew this was the place for my dog. The gentleman who dealt with me and my husband was so nice and made us feel like our dog would be cared for as if it was their own. He had surgery and they informed us of everything and made us feel at ease. They took him for the weekend and the doctors actually updated us often on his behavior and surgery. We picked him up ready to take home and he was like he never had surgery. I would definitely recommend this place to my friends, family or even strangers! This place was amazing start to finish! Thank you for taking such care of our Pete and making him better!

Two of the other dermatology offices I called were booked out for months, and my dog needed care fairly quickly. Angell was able to accommodate us right away and they were reasonable priced. I really appreciated the time Dr. Painter spent talking to me on the phone and going over everything with me. I of course wish I could have gone in with my dog to the appointment, but I felt that Dr. Painter gave my dog the time and attention he deserved. The rest of the staff was great as well! Hopefully his treatment will go as planned

We arrived in the hospital scared to death by a preliminary examination by our vet: he suspected something really terrible. Our Lab, Cora, is very important to us, and in some 20 minutes we were in AAMC. The medical stuff was extremely pleasant, professional and in some half hour Cora was pronounced basically healthy. The entire place ia clean, modern and, in short, nice. The dog, who usually does not like visits to the vet, enjoyed the experience as much as we did.

Had to put my 18 year old cat to sleep (thyroid tumor) in October 2018. The vet was very caring and the journey over Rainbow Bridge was fast and quick without any pain. I now have to bring my other 18 year old cat (renal failure) in today and I'm so less stressed because I know how excellent the medical care is at Angell. I adopted both cats from Angell 14 years ago. Everyone should consider adoption first when looking for a fur baby and also do a monthly gift to Angell.

The service we received for Willie was responsive, caring, comprehensive and highly professional in all facets:

The emergency intake and triage process for Willie was conducted very efficiently and promptly;
we were escorted into an exam room without any delay;
Dr. McClain examined and diagnosed Willie in a caring, thorough and professional manner and I felt he was in good hands throughout the examination;
Dr. McClain's follow up communication was timely, informative and beneficial;
and I was pleasantly surprised to find that the final cost of care was significantly lower than the original estimate for treatment.
The only issue I had (and it was just a minor one at that) was that I didn't receive an email copy of the Discharge Instructions until I called Angell back about 10 hours after Willie was discharged. Once I called back, however, a copy of the instructions was promptly sent to me.
Thanks for taking such good care of Willie; we look forward to working with Dr. McClain and the rest of the Angell staff in the future. We're glad you guys are so close to us! Best: you were prompt, thorough and accurate in examining Willie
Most appreciated: (same)

Dear Angell Animal Medical Center:

We d like to extend our deep gratitude to your ER staff for the excellent care we all received this weekend in the context of our dear YumYum s critical and ultimately terminal illness. We were well attended to , with great promptness and sensitivity. We especially appreciated the time that your staff spent with us following YumYum s passing. Bottom line: You rock !

Please let Dr. Biros know that we will no longer be following with the wonderful eye care that he provided over these past few months.

Our very best wishes,

Dr Picard was absolutely amazing. She took time to explain things to me and had absolutely no problem answering all my questions. She was very very sweet and did all she could to help us care for our fur baby in her time of need. I will most definitely recommend this hospital because of her! We went to this hospital during the Covid pandemic so we could not go inside but the doctor called us pretty quickly to talk about my cats examination and she was very very kind! I think from that experience alone Angell provides excellent customer service!!

Everyone was polite, timely, and professional. My cat wasn't stressed at ALL (unusual for the high-strung kitty) she was even purring the whole time. The vet assistant wasn't super helpful (asked her some questions and she answered .. different questions?) but she was very kind.
The cost was good (on the high end but certainly cheaper than it would be anywhere else) and reasonable.
Loved the adoption center by the waiting area - very tempted to find a friend for my cat while waiting and certainly perused :) Again - adoption centers are often not thought of as clean, bright, and joyful. There is no sadness or darkness, and I couldn't imagine going anywhere else for veterinary services in Boston. cleanliness, friendliness, and answering all the questions! cost, as well, is the best compared to anywhere else

I came in with an emergency case and from the time we were seen to after the surgery the things that I appreciated the most and what I think your team does best is care explaining the all the options, good and bad, and communication through the animals care. I was further impressed by the communication of status and interaction all members of my animals team, from front desk care services to the treating doctors. I live far and was not able to come in for all visiting hours but the team made sure I received updates and pictures throughout his care and surgery. After surgery I was called by the doctors for the download of how the surgery went and what I needed to do for care in the coming weeks. This level of communication and care for the animals keeps me traveling the distance to get care from your hospital. The care team truly love what they do and this is evident in all they do. Greatly appreciate all that the team does. Thank you!

We experienced a very Long wait time. We have a cat and they let dogs in the cat waiting area, making our cat even more stressed out.
My cat had vomiting & diarrhea. The vet gave her an anti nausea & fluids and sent us home. That cost $600. My cat ended up req'ing an overnight hospitalization at my own vet the next night for an additional $600. Therefore I feel our cat was not fully tx'd and sent home too soon. I also feel if we had been given an anti nausea & anti diarrheal to give her at home it could have prevented the re-hospitalization.
The vet was friendly & knowledgeable especially given the time of night, the large amount of waiting patients and low number of staff.

Check in was a breeze, there was almost no waiting time. The time I did spend waiting was spent in a VERY clean and well spaced out area with room for all the four legged friends. Im sure the dogs anxiety was high but the genuinely pleasant nature of the staff helped sooth his nerves. The exam rooms were super clean, large, and well lit with no oder at all. Check out was a snap. Best check up we've had in a long time. The waiting area was so nice. The exam room and personal were all tops.

Took our 12 year old cat to this medical center yesterday with symptoms of struggling walking and not eating. After waiting 3 hours in the waiting room, Dr s diagnosed fever immediately but blood screening and vital signs were diagnosed as normal. xrays didn t show any major issues either. Dr recommended overnight visit of several days for more in depth analysis and observation at a cost of $3,000 to diagnosis properly. Dr Alluded to a major health problem with out ever saying the word cancer. After paying $375 we decided to take her home and pray for the best but realizing she may be end of life. Today we woke up and decided we needed a definitive diagnosis and took our cat to a local veterinarian. Within 10 minutes they diagnosed her as having a skin infection which caused the fever and difficulty walking. I m not sure if this facility specializes in trauma to animals or just deals with emergency situations but they clearly lack experience in diagnosing something as simple as a skin infection. I m not pleased to have spent that much money and wasted so much time with a diagnosis. I would not recommend based on my experience

I was very pleased how smoothly everything went with my dog s appointment. I live in NY and came in for the day to "see" Dr. Quinn. All the precautions taken for the health and well being of the patients, staff, doctors and visitors were impressive. Great vet with lots of specialists and emergency care. Dr. Koster (Optimology) was literally a sight and life saver. Prices can be a bit high and policies more rigid than typical neighborhood vet. Pharmacy is terrible, though. Took off 1 and 1/2 stars just for the poor pharmacy.

I'm very upset and discouraged with my experience here. Dr Daniel was very courteous, knowledgable, and to the point. The staff at the front desk is not always so kind or knowledgable. They misplaced my paperwork, had no record of my cat or her appointment, and we're not wiling to refund me the cash which I had paid only 2 hours prior. All of which happened over a week long period. The people that work here do amazing things and for that, I'm grateful. But, in these moments, I did not feel the compassion for my cat and her terminal illness.

If anyone has a small animal as a pet, I HIGHLY SUGGEST never taking them here for care. They do not have the knowledge on small animals as they say and will do anything and say anything in order to make more money. Unnecessary overnight stays, calling for tests and blood work that you will never see the results for , and a team that makes you bend over backwards for answers. It disgusts me that this hospital takes advantage of those in desperate situations who would do anything to save their animals. Particularly, Dr. Freilicher (fry licker, yes that's a name ). This woman not only left my calls unanswered and unreturned for a week but when I finally did get in touch with her proceeded to berate and argue with me. Going as far as swearing and name calling. If you have ANY type of animal I recommend Lloyd Medical in Stoughton. They care for animals large and small and have the most compassionate team I've ever seen. I have yet to see a bill that was even a quarter of what I paid here at the mspca and the team is strictly working to help animals in need. The Angell Animal Medical is a business working to outsell the other mspcas in the country.

The wait was long. It took about an hour and a half to just be seen which seems excessive. The doctor that saw my cat was nice and attentive. My cat can be very troublesome with new people and she was patient and nice. My cat did need to be sedated for the doctor to do her work. The costs were pretty high for the treatment. I could see this being prohibitive if my cat had another emergency soon. Once my cat was released I was given instructions for the medication but I wasn't told how long the cone would have to be on his neck. I also ran out of antibiotics shy of the full 10 days. I called Angell and my cat's doctor eventually called me back, so it was nice to hear from her. She said having done 8 days of antibiotics, he should be fine, they usually do 7-10 days, but I feel like I should have been given enough for a few days extra for the inevitable case where my cat spit out a dose (which happened) and when I spilled at least part of one dose (also happened). Overall I am mostly pleased with the care my cat received and I appreciate the hospital being open and available in the middle of the night as was needed in this case. Thank you!

She made us feel so comfortable and we could tell she truly cared about our cat, Milo! She answered all of our questions. We will be transferring primary care for all of our pets to Angell from now on.

They provide great service and it's a non-profit organization so you can feel good about giving them your business. The veterinarian was very good and my kitten was very calm during the appointment. She's a very nice lady and provides good service. Their flexible hours also allow me to schedule an appointment at a time that works for me.

Just called the "emergency hotline" to toxicity and found out that the answer will cost 65 dollars.

Is this what angell has become? You guys have the worst reputation in the city for overpriced arrogance, but this one takes the cake.

65 bucks or your dog may die?

I will do anything to divert fellow pet owners from ever donating to you or using your services for as long as I live in the City of Boston.

You have no right being called a charity. You ought to be shut down.

I went to Angell for the first time for my rabbit's annual physical last week. Everyone I met was very friendly. Check in is separate from the rest of reception, which makes it a breeze. I was nervous about going to an all-animal types office (before moving to Boston, we went to a dedicated-exotics office) because my bunny has been known to be afraid of some dogs (as she should be) and travel is already stressful, but I was pleased that there is a dedicated waiting area for exotics and the treatment room seemed to be rabbits-only. There was hardly a wait, which I loved. Dr. Freilicher and tech, Giana, gave my pet parenting and my rabbit a lot of compliments, which gave me the warm and fuzzies. I also felt incredibly confident in Dr. Freilicher's advice and expertise.

The surgical and Oncology teams treated my dog with specialized, breed-specific care and addressed me with medical terminology (I am in nursing administration), phone call follow-ups, etc. Top notch, clean and compassionate. When she passed, they send me a personalized card, and notified her PCP who also sent me a card . Touching. Unfortunately we have a lot to learn from vets in regards to human medicine. People who think pet care is expensive, have no clue what human care actually costs!!

They have the best vets around and I would not trust my beloved pets in anyone else's care if they needed to have a major procedure performed. My dog Maddie had a total hip replacement and the surgeon was Dr. Trout. I am so pleased with my entire experience thus far and especially with how well she is doing. Dr. Trout takes his time and thoroughly explains everything which helps you feel more comfortable with the procedure you are having done to your pet. He offers you various alternatives for your pet's problem and lets you make the decision as to what is best for your personal situation.

We've been to Angell in Waltham several times with our dog Otis, who is under the care of Dr. Malakoff for his pulmonary hypertension, thrombosis and recently diagnosed degenerative valve disease. All the staff we've encountered have been very friendly, helpful and responsive. Our appointments have been on time and very thorough. Dr. Malakoff and the vet tech (sorry, I forget her name!) have been sweet and gentle with Otis and extremely patient with our many worried questions. We feel Otis is getting extraordinary care from Dr. Malakoff and are continuing to see her, despite having moved to Rhode Island this past summer. The extra travel is worth the peace of mind that Otis is getting the best care possible for his unique issues. We are very grateful that we found Angell and Dr. Malakoff.

I love the vets that my dog has seen- Dr. Coster and Dr. Owen. They are both caring, compassionate, and knowledgeable. However I am not happy with the pharmacy- our vet appointment takes about 20 minutes and waiting for a prescription takes an additional 45 minutes (at many different times of the day). I also feel like Angel is becoming a money making machine. My dog had a TPLO surgery which was quoted to cost $4000 and I was told I paid a quarter of it at drop off and then the remaining was do several days at pick up. The afternoon before surgery I received a call from the finance department telling me that if I didn't pay for the entire amount at drop off then my dog would not be operated on( in a very negative and heartless manner). I was lucky that my bank was still open. The funny thing is that the surgery was over a month ago and I apparently was over charged several hundred dollars and told I would receive a refund-I have not been refunded yet.

I just want to say "Thank you so much !!!!" to Dr. Carolyn Chen! She took care of my family member carefully and took a long time with us, she explained every detail to us. As a doctor, she is not only doing her job professionally but also she is a good sympathetic listener, and she comfort her patient, give us suggest with her previous experiences. When I was taking time with Dr Chen, I feel that the hospital is not just a hospital, it also can make people feel warm, respectful and thankful! Thank you Dr carolyn Chen! God saw what you did, and wish you good luck in the future!

The overall experience was great, from the staff that answered our call on a Saturday evening to Lauren Baker who took the time to read our dogs chart and provide a thoughtful explanation, even though she was not the DVM who administered to Blu. I should not forget the staff at reception. All played a key role in making our first experience a great one!

Congrats to you all. see earlier comments

My 9 year old rabbit was suddenly dragging his low...

My 9 year old rabbit was suddenly dragging his lower half. So we called and ask if we can bring him in. Of course they said yes and we showed up for emergency service. Arrival and check in was easy despite social distancing protocol. My dad and I sat outside for 3 hours. My sister and her boyfriend joined us in the process. It s a very hard thing bringing in a senior bun so we were all super worried. Tell me why you had him for that long and called me tell me you couldnt even do anything for him? The phone call telling me whats wrong was super dragged on and repetitive too! Just be concise for gods sake. Tell me what s wrong and what we can do. OR just straight up say, hey, I dont know much about rabbits or I dont have the ability to help your bun at this time. WHY did I have to wait 3 hours for you to tell and do nothing for my rabbit? Costed over 200$ for NOTHING! I m sure the general vet for emergencies is a decent vet. But for rabbits? NO. If id known nothing was gonna be done then id have just looked elsewhere. We ended up going to VCA Animal Hospital in Wakefield to see Dr. Kruse and she was amazing! My bun ended up having a parasite so glad we detected it in time thanks to her. Angell is NOT a place for rabbits.

And if that isnt enough for you, we talked to a lady who was waiting 4 HOURS for her cat! She told us they were supposed to do a x-ray so they sedated her. But in the end they never did the x-ray. Soooo what are you doing inside to our pets?

Lastly, my rabbit was still acting normal despite his legs. They had the nerve to ask us if he can stay overnight. Money hungry much? Considering you cant even do anything whats the point of him staying? It was also mentioned he was super stressed and wasnt eating or drinking inside with the vet. I just dont understand their logic and system at all. In normal circumstances without COVID, I m sure we wouldn t have had to wait this long. I cant help but feel like I was taken advantage of because I couldnt go inside with my bun. To be completely honest, I am lucky my bun wasn t in critical condition, or else I really felt like they wouldve killed him by doing nothing.

Even if I get a dog or cat in the future, I REFUSE to ever come here again. My trust in these people is nonexistent.

We just said goodbye to our beloved cat Yoda. Some of you presumably know how difficult it was it for us. From the very beginning after adopting Yoda we knew that he wasn't the strongest one. But he enjoyed his life with us. 2.5 years ago he started to show some problems. They checked him in promptly. After a short wait time, a young doctor came. From the
very beginning, we fell in love with her. She kept Yoda for three days in the hospital. because Yoda developed a very serious heart condition. She put him on meds. and changed Yoda's life. From then on she became part of our family and Yoda's mama. Thanks to her, cardiologist Dr. Katie Hogan, and the rest of the team, it was possible for Yoda and us to enjoy life together for 2.5 years. We will never forget how Dr. Hogan helped us to go through the saddest time at the very end. She and her assistant Angela
spend more than 2 hrs with us. We can only say "Thank you Dr. Katie Hogan for your kindness, for your smart and very professional approach.
Thank you for being a good person and an excellent doctor.
Thank you very much to Dania, Eve, Arleia and Angela for being so supportive .Thank you to pharmacy team and check in staff.

These people are truly nothing but parasites preying on the vulnerability of people that love and are concerned about their pets. Unless you truly have money to throw away, keep looking for another place to take your pet. I brought my dog there for a recheck... while my regular veterinarian charged $35 for an office visit last night, these people charged me $156 for the same exact service. My veterinarian recommended surgery for my dog and gave me an itemized estimate of just over $1,800, and the next night Angell Animal Medical Center gave me an itemized estimate of over $3,100. These people should be embarrassed to working here and taking advantage of pet owners the way that they do. If you're truly looking to get financially screwed, then, yes, this is the place to go.

I've been coming to Angell Boston for 2.5 years. I...

I've been coming to Angell Boston for 2.5 years. I thought this was the best place for me as a pet owner and my pet until I decided to get another vet's opinion on their diagnosis for my pet. I went to Andover Animal Hospital and OH MY GOD, I understood the true definition of care, support and friendliness. I liked my specialist at Angell, but I think overall what Angell is all about is to rip you off-- they won't even admit your pet into the ER unless you pat $150 upfront. Once my pet had a stomach problem that later I figured could have been fixed with close monitoring and syringe feeding her. I called Angell, they suggested bringing her to the ER right away. I spent thousands of dollars at Angell-- mostly unnecessary.
First thing Andover Animal Hospital told me was "If this was my pet, I would not have done this to her". They listened to my pet's issues with so much care and they were super patient. The staff is super friendly and nice. Angell's staff is so unpatient, unfriendly and just want to swipe your credit card... pretty sad and disappointing.
On top of that, Andover's staff called me twice after my appointment, followed up regarding my pet's health, asked for my feedback and if I had any further questions.. I used to pay 3x in Angell and was never called for follow up (maybe follow up regarding paying a bill.)
My doctor at Andover Animal is very responsive, informative and patient. He responds to all my emails right away in full details. My doctor at Angell sometimes ignored an email or two and responded some.

Long story short, you pay a lot for this place and their immediate response is always 'bring your pet in', cause it's beneficial for their pocket, and it's not necessarily a better hospital for your pet. Try calling other hospitals and ask around if someone suggests other animal hospitals around. Don't fall into the same trap..

I've been taking my beloved dogs and cats to Angell Animal Medical Center for over 20 years and I couldn't say anything but wonderful things about it. I've never had a bad experience there. I always feel that my pets are well taken care of, the staff is efficient, helpful and sympathetic, the vets are very knowledgeable, and the capabilities of the hospital are excellent. My primary care vet is one of the Angell vets (there are many vets closer to my house than Angell) and I choose to take them there because whenever I have an emergency or a special need, I would have to send them to Angell anyway so this way, when I do have to go for an emergency or special need they have my pets' paperwork and history right in front of them. I have found this extremely useful on many occasions (Sundays, 3:00 in the morning, seeing the eye doctor, etc.). I am very happy that the best hospital in the US (possibly the world) is 25 minutes away from my house.

The quality of the veterinary care by exotics team...

The quality of the veterinary care by exotics team is exceptional. They have been able to diagnose and manage multiple unusual medical conditions, and I cannot speak highly enough of the skill and expertise of Dr Freilicher and the rest of the team. I not only trust their medical skill and knowledge, but also that they care about the individual animals they serve. When my guinea pigs have been hospitalized, I know that they will not only receive exceptional medical care, but will also receive affection and plenty of cuddles. I deeply appreciate having a veterinary team that knows my pets and their peculiarities. We have recently been dealing with a complex set of issues (2 guinea pigs with entamoeba, while the 3rd tested negative but went into gastric stasis on being isolated from the other two). Dr Freilicher and Dr Staudenmaier have been wonderful about giving advice and figuring out how to balance competing needs (e.g. the risk of the 3rd guinea pig becoming infected versus her ability to tolerate being on her own). They and all the techs have been very personally supportive and understanding, helping me work around my medical appointments and other life complications. I appreciate that both I and my guinea pigs are seen as individuals, with particular needs.

My cat was in an emergency situation and we were concerned about his leg. The doctor that saw him was thorough, thoughtful and compassionate. I cannot say enough about her professional and caring demeanor, during what was an extremely difficult time for me. Thank you for all you do for both pets & their people. I've brought in stay cats, as well as pets that have required emergency attention. I have also accompanied family members in for a routine visit. On all occasions we received exemplary service. From the people who answer the phone, do the intake, and all of the vets, I've always had a wonderful experience here.
