I've been a member of this gym for almost a year now, and I absolutely love friendly staff, amazing people, and general culture of this gym! I'm extremely sad to say that I have to downsize gym memberships until I finish my studies, but I had a wonderful experience at Xcel Fitness, and hope to be back once I graduate!
PROS:
- Wonderful culture: everyone is so friendly, inclusive, and kind. The staff has always been friendly and helpful, and every person I've interacted with at this gym has smiled and said hello. The people who come here are super genuine, and a lot of them are in great shape. It's encouraging to see so many people doing so well with their health, and all of the people I talked to were always really kind to me. I never felt uncomfortable, judged, or unwelcome. I've gained a lot of weight in the last two years due to some major life changes, and I'm extremely uncomfortable with my body at the moment. At Xcel Fitness, I never felt like I was out of place, even though I'm in the worst shape of my life. (Compared to other gyms where people might be judgmental- I never experienced anything like that here).
- Extremely safe: I never felt anxious or nervous about leaving my things in my locker, none of the staff or members ever made me feel unsafe. And the location of this gym is in a nice neighborhood. I never worried about my car being broken into, etc.
- Amazing gym equipment: the equipment in this gym is extremely nice compared to others gyms. They spend a lot of money in the quality of this gym and equipment. I have only seen a few machines that were broken for a short period of time, and normally there were other machines exactly like it that did work.
- Experienced/friendly trainers: Unfortunately I couldn't afford to have a personal trainer, but I was able to have a session with one of them named Austin. He was so kind, attentive, and patient with me. All of the trainers that I've met at this gym are courteous and fun.
- Month-to-month membership: I loved the flexibility of having a month-to-month membership. Being a full-time college student, I knew that there's a possibility to come into financial trouble. Cancelling my membership (although sad) was a really easy process. They were completely understanding and helped the process go smoothly.
- Management: Ryan is awesome! He actually showed me around the gym when I was looking into the place. He was really friendly and got to know me personally. I think that's really cool.
CONS:
- They are expensive: compared to other gyms, the price is definitely high. But the quality of the gym does make up for that, in my opinion. Health is an investment, and a really good one to make.
- Only one location: I currently work and go to school. Xcel Fitness was right by my office (I passed it on my way to work every day), but not my home or school. So I couldn't go as often as I would like to because it was a 10-15 minute drive from my home.
I loved coming here in the mornings before work, but if I managed to forget my gym clothes, it was unlikely that I would make the drive again
in the evening to get a workout in.
