Xcel Fitness Review

I've been going since May of 2020. I decided to change take care of my health through fitness. I decided to chat with Matt and was very welcoming, he helped ease a lot of my worries when it comes to fitness and how I can get started.

I decided to get a personal trainer and Matt assigned me with Aubrey since I was looking to make a full lifestyle change, from working out to nutrition. Aubrey has been amazing and very understanding. We set short and long term goals to push. I have my slip ups or have insecurities on my progress and Aubrey is fantastic on helping me get back on track, never making me feel ashamed (which I do all on my own already) , and does a great job get me focused back to my goals.

9 Months later and I am down 7% bodyfat and lost 10lbs while gaining lean muscle mass. I only focus on comparing myself to where I was before and the progress I make. I have developed better habits with small steps each day. Everyone there, including the other patrons, are happy to see you and the progress you make. This was the best decision I have made for turning my life around in my 30s.

I love this gym. Great atmosphere. Great equipment. I never feel crowded. BUT, I had a VERY unfortunate experience purchasing my membership. The salesperson who signed me up lied to me regarding my membership privileges. When I spoke to Management, they just said, "well you signed the contract." When I asked friends at the gym about their experiences, they confirmed stories of their own. Ultimately -- it's got potential to be the best gym in SLC.

Xcel Rocks! The gym iyself is very clean and kept in great condition. I was also even more impressed by the people that i have met and worked with. I met Ashley recently regarding some business services and I was amazed at the passion she showed for the back end work that goes on behind the scenes. They work very hard on areas of the business that you can't see so that every client interaction with the gym is top notch. Fantastic Gym! & Amazing staff!

Xcel fitness is an awesome place! So many opportunities for any excercise you could imagine! I highly suggest trying it out! Awesome place and amazing people who are very motivating!

The gym is always very clean and well maintained. They have also implemented great cleaning tools and tactics with COVID, ensuring that all of the equipment gets wiped down before and after each use. It has all of the equipment that you d ever need. By far the best gym in Utah!

My wife has been a member of Xcel fitness for over a year. Great equipment and facilities without a doubt. Then she became pregnant, and after a local gym opened up in our clubhouse just down the road, we decided it was time to cancel the membership for financial and convenience purposes. As we have experienced before, gym memberships can be time consuming and frustrating to cancel. They will sign you up anytime of the day or night, but cancellations are only accepted during select business hours, in person. Xcel, sadly, is no different. My wife and I both work full-time and do not want to take off work to cancel a membership. We called, and they would not work with us at all. Would not fax us a form, and stated that they would not even leave a form at the front desk for us to stop by and sign over the weekend. Finally we went in two days before my wife gave birth (this was the only time she had available), signed their form and paid for an additional month they decided to charge us, even though she hadn't gone and we requested cancellation nearly a month prior. We thought it was over, and now they are sending us letters saying we still owe for the next month, and that we owe a "facility maintenance fee" even after we cancelled and closed our account. May have great equipment, but practice all of the shady tactics many gyms are known for. Beware.

I've been going here for almost a year now and my only complaint is I wished I had started sooner. The front staff is always friendly and very welcoming. Josie especially is a pleasure to talk to and she always is smiling. The equipment is quality and there is large variety of it. The clientele here is nice and friendly with all ages and fitness levels represented. My membership here is some of the best money I've ever spent.

Fantastic! I'll admit, I've been going to one of those chain gyms for a while and after I evaporated into the mist of equally unmotivated patrons, I forgot what a real gym was like. Now that I'm back at xcel, I'm feeling great, and looking great too! The equipment is the best around, the staff is like family and the environment is worth coming back to every day. Great value, great gym!

Can't say enough about this gym. The only negative I have is I don't live close enough to it. Great atmosphere. The only gym in Utah that provides the benefits of almost every type of fitness. No other gym offers the variety of free weights, machines, Aerobic classes, martial arts, and CROSSFIT. I love training here! Best all around gym in Utah by far.

Was hesitant to move over but decided to pull the trigger and it's been a great decision for my fitness development. Staff has helped me out a ton in getting to know the new environment/layout, complimentary sweat towels, clean facilities, organized equipment, etc. I thought it would have been tailored more towards crossfitters but it accommodates all levels of fitness and provides you the tools to grow in your desired fitness interests. A++

Nice workout place. Right atmosphere, clean place, equipments are well maintained. I ve been a member for more than 2 years and still like it. It s really the right place for people who takes workout seriously. Recommend it.

I went to Xcel Fitness because of the John Madsen Program that I enrolled in to get healthier and more disciplined with my workouts- I was impressed with the cleanliness, options available for classes, and friendliness of the staff at Xcel. The JMP trainers pushed me and helped me to achieve great results and somehow still made a hard workout fun. Both Xcel and JMP are worth the price, but only if you are willing to put in the time and effort.

I've been to plenty of gyms and XCEL tops the charts. The facility is VERY clean, the staff is incredibly friendly and the variety of classes makes the experience well worth my membership. My wife and I love the heated panels in the yoga studio. One of the best features of XCEL is the kids club. Our kids have always been extremely safe and rave about their experience every time.

I have been working out here for almost two years now. I love the facility, it s clean, organized and a great environment to make improvements to your fitness life. The employees are great people, one that comes to mind is Jossy. She comes in and is focused and brings a positive energy to the environment. And oh man she makes one of the best shakes. Xcel will always be a home for me to improve my physical fitness during the off-season!

I have been coming to Xcel for 19 years! I have seen the ownership change over the years! The owner now is the BEST owner Xcel fitness has ever had. He is professional, and understands business! Big kiddo s to him in making this the absolute best gym in the state! Staff all excellent.. again being trained properly by the owner..

Huge fan of this amazing facility. The gym is very impressive with new equipment and a beautiful open floor plan. Love the atmosphere and the very helpful staff and a huge fan of the smoothie bar! By far the best gym I've ever attended. I love the variety of classes and their pilates studio is unmatched.

I really appreciate it when I see all of the staff including the personal trainers wearing face masks. I feel that my safety is important to others when they chose to wear a mask.

You will be so comfortable with Nathan and his crew. That is so important!! Visit him!!

I've always had some difficulty feeling super comfortable in a gym setting. Not only do all types of people use xcel, nut they all do it without judgment. Absolutely worth the investment

I love how you can be at any level of fitness and feel welcome here! I travel over an hour just to go here because that s how great it is. I love having Emily as a personal trainer because she really helps you feel like you can succeed while working out and you can tell she personalizes each session with what helps you the best. The equipment is also really nice and the facility is really clean.

I have never been one to enjoy the gym, but since starting here my viewpoint has changed. This gym has a different atmosphere from most other gyms. Everyone is focused on working out and not hitting on each other. It s strange, you really want to work your hardest here because everyone else is. That being said, you don t feel intimidated. You can find professional athletes here, but also just your average person who doesn t know what they are doing but are trying to learn. Everyone feels comfortable! This gym also has state of the art equipment and enough that you don t have to wait 20 minutes to use the same item or machine as someone else.

Another thing I love about this gym is the quality of personal training. I hired a personal trainer because I needed someone to motivate me to work past my comfortable zone. Emily is the best trainer I could have asked for! She motivates me and my sister to work hard, but also have fun. I leave every work out sore but I know I see results!

Just renewed membership for the second year. Like the facility as it has everything I need and then some. Never seen it overcrowded. Good staff. Always clean.

Called here searching for a new gym about four weeks ago.. Guy was nice! At the time, I was living in LA and explained I would be moving in a few weeks. Today, I called to go visit and check out the gym since I officially moved here a week ago. Guy on the phone said he spoke with me already and I would have to charge me for a day pass to check out the gym... Claiming I have already been in and told him the same story... So, I will take my business else where. If this is how they treat people who aren't even members yet, I could only imagine how they treat members once you are signed into a contract.

Great facility with lot's of classes offered. The staff seems to always be extremely helpful and courteous. I'd highly recommend this gym to friends and family.

I've been a member here for 11+ years and have made some dear friends along the way. Their friendship and bond is all that ties me here anymore. I'm ashamed to call myself an Xcel member, yet these friendships are priceless so I'm torn. Sadly, the owner, Nate Brown, showed his true colors when my disabled son (who had attended Xcel childcare for many years) needed to begin bringing his service dog with him to preform specific task work for my son's wellbeing. Nate let me know that his gym is not a public facility because clients pay monthly dues, so it's private and he doesn't need to follow ADA laws in his private facility. He and his "lawyers" ignored my son's disability lawyer's many attempts to comply with ADA law and even provide documentation or communication with my attorney. Nate made up one excuse after another and spread horrifying and untrue rumors about my little boy instead of just talking to me or my attorney. I'm an open book!!! Nate told me no dogs were allowed in his facility. His clients would not be pleased with that. Oddly enough, I actually have incriminating photos of other service dogs inside this facility. Unfortunately I've now just had to file a federal complaint of his discrimination against my disabled little boy whose second home is the hospital. Nate will not be happy when disciplined, but no one is above the law. A parent of a special needs child is a force not to be reckoned with. So I guess if you like grown "men" bullying and discriminating against little children and making them feel regected again and again, just like the child's peers do because he can't control the fact he wasn't born neorotypical, this gym is for you! Let's pray you don't end up disabled needing a wheelchair, cane or prosthetic, because you might mess up the flow of his empire. I did give them one star because a few of the staff are extemely cheerful and helpful.

This place is always bright and clean! Excellent management. Snack bar and daycare are very helpful on the go. Best classes in the valley and trainers are fun to use! Wouldn't go anywhere else.

Xcel is a first class facility! The staff were very helpful and friendly when I first joined. The classes are amazing and the Pilates instructors are by far the most knowledgable I've come across. Very well kept, and not over crowded. Couldn't be happier with how they operate!

I have been going to Xcel Fitness for 17 years and LOVE it. It is my home away from home. The facility and instructors at Xcel are the best. If you haven t been you should give it a try. I am sure you will love it as I do!

I have been a member Xcel for a year and a half and couldn't have a more positive experience. Facilities are clean, maintenance is quick and staff is friendly. The custodian, Ben, does a phenomenal job of keeping things tidy. Great experience so far.

Been coming to Xcel for 15 years! Their classes are incredibly fun and I always get a great workout! Kris Brown's Pilates class, especially will kick your butt! I've also trained with a lot of trainers here and they have not only taken me thru a great workout, but they give me great tips on what to do when I workout alone. Highly recommend this gym. It's perfect for anyone of any age!

Xcel is a great gym if you are looking for a place to push yourself as an athlete. People are there to workout and not to sit around on the machines on there phones and gossip like at Lifetime Fitness. Nick at the front desk is awesome and gives a warm welcome every morning I come in. Really impressed by the trainers there as well, especially Justin Kleeger, Brian Babbitt, and Nick Walton. XCEL is hands down the best gym I've ever joined! After the virus broke out, I was too scared to leave my home gym. But since returned due to the employees keeping it very CLEAN and SANITIZED! The jacuzzi and steam room are currently closed down-due to the virus. But still has a full set of HOT showers. Locker room has a self setting lock, so you feel safe leaving your items behind while you go get a lift in.

The gym is equipped with all the machines, bands, and weights that you would ever need to break a sweat. Not to mention they provide a wide verity of classes that suits everyones working-out styles and level.

Every time I walk in, I am greeted with a smile from a staff member. Who are always happy to help if you have any problems. The trainers themselves are extremely knowledgable! I highly encourage a session or two with Emily. She has help me get stronger and educated me with all the machines.

XCEL is a phonemail gym. I plan on being a forever member!

I have been working with Mike Rosa in a group training program for many years . Mike has made it fun , he groups you together with people that train the way I like to train

Fantastic gym! Friendly staff, clean facilities, well maintained and state-of-the art equipment. So many options for classes also to accommodate all levels of fitness. I highly recommend Xcel to anyone that wants the very best!

Love being apart of this gym! The staff is beyond helpful and friendly. The trainers and instructors are very knowledgeable. I don't see myself ever going to another gym again. Plus my kids love the Daycare!

This gym is simply awful. Don't ever pay them and go somewhere else. I tried cancelling my membership and was repeatedly told incorrect information, which resulted in over $150 in extra payments. I even signed a cancelation form and returned it in the designated timeframe and they charged me again. When I called to work the charges out, they treated me like an idiot and never followed up as promised. I am submitting a formal complaint to the BBB.

I LOVE this gym! The first time I walked in I was blown away by the "energy" there. There are classes going on all over the place, there is almost every kind of workout you would want and it never feels crowded even though there is so much "life" and "movement" because of the way its laid out. I would recommend to anyone.

We first visited Xcel for a charity event called 65 Roses. We were super impressed with the cleanliness of the gym and all the options available. They have yoga, CrossFit, pilates, high fitness, etc.; anything you could ever want in a gym! The staff is always friendly and extremely helpful. Highly recommend!

Xcel is the best gym for people who have specific goals. The atmosphere is great, and highly motivating.

Xcel Fitness is the most advanced/cleanest training facility in the state of Utah.

I ve been to a lot of gyms in the salt lake area, and this is by far the best. They have all the top-quality equipment you need for any kind of workout. Plus, they offer a wide variety of classes. Yoga, crossfit, spin, etc. I ll never go elsewhere as long as I live here.

Corrupt owner Nate Brown lies to employees and members of the facility. Don't trust this company with your credit or debit card information they will charge you on random dates and random amounts with no explanation. Prices change constantly even when you have agreed to a contract. Agreements with this company mean nothing as they will alter it in their favor.

Great facilities no doubt. But absolutely atrocious management and customers service. I would not recommend this gym to my worst enemy. They don't care about the individual, you're just a monthly payment to them.

Great gym. Been a member for 3+ years and love the large and spacious environment. It has something for everyone. 8 Olympic lifting platforms, pull-up rigs, tons of free weights, cross fit room, MMA corner, and everything in between. The staff is personable and they don't push stuff on you and make you feel uncomfortable. I would recommend this gym.

4.8.2019 Quick update. I have been a member for over 6 year now and the feeling is still the same. Ownership has changed, and a few employees...but not tons, and they have still managed to keep the culture the same (if not a tad better) and I really appreciate the environment and equipment they have given to us.

Xcel is honestly the best gym I've ever been a part of. The people and the atmosphere there are incredible, everyone is so friendly and inviting. The facility is top notch and has pretty much anything you could ever need to do whatever style of workouts you like to do.

Xcel Fitness is hands down the best gym in Utah. My only wish is that there were more locations! I am always greeted with a smile from Nick or Jossy and always leave feeling accomplished. If you haven't checked this place out, its about time you do so! Promise, you won't regret it!

At first everything seems fine because it is a complete gym in every sense of the word but when you start to realize the type of people who go to this gym you have no choice but to leave ... people very close to me had to cancel their membership because the gym owner was told some gossip about their private lives and apparently he preferred to listen to people offended by only gossips and almost took them out of the gym.. shame on him..

Xcel has so much to offer! There are tons of classes, programs and equipment so there is something for everyone no matter what your goal is! It is also always clean and well maintained. I recommend xcel!

Contract is month to month. Pretty straight forward. The facility is extremely clean compared to others. Cam is an absolute gem of a human being. All of the equipment you would ever need. It is always back where it belongs and you never have to wait to use it.

With the new ownership Nate .. This gym is awful. I had s mixup with my membership and he was not willing to work with me . Told me he would rather take it before a judge than work through it . I called again last week to pay and get it resolved and no return phone call . The gym got brought up at a girls dinner and my friend Kym said how awful she was also treated after being a loyal member for 13 years . All they care about is taking your money . Gym is way over priced . The classes are not even good unless you want to pay more to take the classes upstarts . All the good instructors and staff have left to awaken gym that is opening soon . The day care is also bad . My daughter had got out of the daycare a few times because the door was left open . I was a member from the day this gym opened its crazy to see how much it's gone down hill , and prices have doubled ..

Been to a lot of gyms in the valley and this is by far the most clean, and has the best set up. The CrossFit section is unreal. Friendly staff and I've met some of my closest friends here.

I love the huge open space, especially during COVID times. There is plenty of room to keep distance from people. I thought the staff I interacted with were super friendly and informative. The gym itself, while definitely shows signs of wear (some weight increments are worn off on machines), is also well maintained. Definitely feels like they "Xcel" at Crossfit (there is a room specifically there for it), but is a great place for your more pedestrian Gym goer that needs Machines, Free Weights and has a lot of areas to do Barbell lifts/Olympic lifts.

There are two reasons I go to Xcel. The first is how clean everything is. From the equipment and classrooms to the lockers, it always feels just cleaned. I appreciate not touching sticky workout equipment. The second and most profound reason for me is the Kids' Club. No other gym matches the safety, cleanliest, and atmosphere of the Kids' Club. Everyone who works in there is outstanding. I could on and on about the the special efforts they take to ensure my child is happy, safe, and having fun. On top of this, there are pagers you can borrow (or just leave your phone number for a text or call if you'd prefer), a camera so you can tune into the Kids' Club while exercising, a staff to children ratio that is expectional, and other safety and hygienic procedures taken to maintain the high standards of the Kids' Club. Xcel is doing fantastic in many areas and I appreciate their continuous efforts to improve and maintain being one of the top gyms in Utah.

I have been going to Xcel Fitness to workout with a personal training for many years. All of their personal trainers are very knowledgeable and experienced. The staff has always been helpful and friendly. If you want a serious gym then this is the place. The equipment is top quality and very clean. I highly recommend Xcel Fitness.

I love how I am always greeted kindly when I walk in the door. Xcel has a very approachable staff. I take Kris Browns' Pilates and her Circuit Pilates classes regularly because she is great! I go with my friend and we always leave feeling like we had a great work out. She teaches a tough class, but offers modifications all while helping her class keep proper form, which is very important to me. I asked her once to feel free to correct my posture if she sees I'm doing something incorrectly, and after a couple of weeks had gone by, she still remembered my request and gave me quick, helpful advice during class. I was very impressed. I've tried a few other classes at Xcel and I've always liked the instructors. They seem to be having a good time there and they really know their stuff.

Easily the nicest, cleanest gym in the Salt Lake valley. The staff are professional and friendly and the facilities are top notch!!

I have been going to Xcel for almost a year now and I love it! They have just about every piece of equipment you could ever ask for and all of the staff are super polite and helpful. It's definitely one of the cleanest gyms around, and also has some of the best people.
