It's a good airport, even if it's not up to European airports, the connections to the city are not very clear but nevertheless the staff is very friendly and you can find someone who speaks Spanish. I hope you can modernize it and better the issue of transfers.
If the old airport was renovated, it would be a thousand times better. The security gate area is too small. Waiting times for luggage, shameful 30-40 min, on average !!!
Crowded, chaotic and cacophonous airport. Wifi doesn't work, nor does air conditioning. Very unpleasant and uncomfortably hot. Retail offering overpriced and limited.
Catania Airport is at the forefront and certainly one of the most beautiful and functional in Italy,
but the most essential thing is overlooked..cleaning. a real shame !!
Disorganization at the highest levels. Other than preventive rules due to covid, the lines for the check in of Volotea flights were a real gathering without any type of order. And when we told security about the situation (security hadn't split the lines according to the flight but had created a single line for 6 different check-ins), security first ignored it, and then even offended us saying that we were complaining because we just wanted to be smart and skip the line (flight catania - verona of 7 august 2020)
The new terminal "C" has a bar which leaves a lot to be desired. The old, cold rubber arancini! Friendly but unprepared staff.
Very well organized .. clear and precise signs and staff present and friendly .. good
The good points are that as a small terminal, it was easy to arrive and go round to departures for a transit through the airport. Very short distances.
There is an adequate selection of food from 2 decent sized and well equipped cafes, though very small areas to sit and eat really, as the terminal is small, though we did find some seats a bit further away.
It's best to get food and drink, I think, before you get through security as it's a bit austere afterwards.
I was entitled to use the VIP lounge. If you can find it - far end, upstairs - it's staffed by 1 person who is very friendly, to be fair. But the choice of drink and food is minimal snacking really. But it is incredibly small and not really enjoyable. I would be happier to sit downstairs in the main area, and it certainly would not be worth paying for if that was your option.
Generally, the check-in and security processes are excessively bureaucratic and slow - lots of frustrated passengers in evidence. Procedures and systems are not efficient or well thought through, and service is generally officious and not at all customer-friendly or warm. The atmosphere is that they are doing you a favour.
Overall it's small and convenient, but not well run or staffed.
Under normal conditions it is already an airport with obvious limitations and with organizational problems, but it is truly incredible how in a situation of full-blown pandemic nothing is done to avoid gatherings or long queues inside and outside it. What I witnessed yesterday was this: a single and only passage with the thermoscanner for the access of hundreds and hundreds of people, the Volotea check-in desk to say the least embarrassing with only two employees who wasted more time chatting instead than to dispose of the flood of people in line, security checks with very tight coils that forced you to inevitably stay one meter away from all the others, the departure of all flights concurrently with each other with consequent gathering of people everywhere and last but not least 123 passengers crammed into two buses without even a wisp of air conditioning. Ah, obviously no one who kept the situation under control by inviting people to stay away. Arriving at the Venice airport you realize how the anti-covid regulations and the management of the emergency are a little different and taken more seriously. And I say this as a bitter Sicilian and aware that Sicily, despite being a beautiful land and which has nothing to envy to other Italian regions, still has a lot to do and learn in terms of management and organization. Bad experience, but I just hope it was an exception as it was August 23rd.
More than an hour to register! I have never experienced such slow and poorly organized airport service.
Get here 2 hours earlier than you think you will need. Everything is disorganized and slow. Pay attention to the monitors as they do not announce gate changes.
First visit to this airport. First time in my life where you have to buy plastic water bottles when you have water bottles. No fountain available and the water in all the toilets is hot ...! It is unacceptable !!! Knowing that we have to empty our bottles to pass the security check ... an aberration, for the ecology And for the economy (ours not that of the local refreshments which they do not hesitate to sell a bottle of water almost 2 !!)
And it was a lousy experience Alitalia has a non-competent staff who did not let me leave because the identity document was a little wrinkled but 100% legible
Long waiting time for luggage, small airport, covers the PRL ..
Although it is a small airport, it is crowded with many people. The bus for the city goes out the exit and you can find a stop on the left side.
Because of the virus you are not allowed in the airport, so everyone stands next to each other outside??. Could not see any toilets facilities either.
I spent a night there in the middle of August and, apart from the filth of the toilets, I had air conditioning in freezing temperatures. I preferred to sleep on the filthy benches outside the airport due to the extreme cold. A cold room.
Average airport , little in duty free available. Security can take its time once through to passport control all smooth
Excellent Airport, waiting for the opening of terminal 3 and then Terminal 2
I don't know if it's the fault of the covid but this time it was super organized! from the airport entrance to the cekin to the plane boarding
The departure area is small but complete, clean and well distributed. Flights generally on time at competitive costs. The arrivals terminal was less well, some dirt and baggage randomly sorted on two different roller conveyors.
Terrible servise from the boarding staff , very rude , too busy to charge and not paying attention, in fact we are stuck on board as they have made a mistake boarding passangers!!
Despite everything well organized, I traveled from Venice airport to this one, the latter being more well organized than Venice.
Maybe I was lucky? Ps I am a boy in a wheelchair, so the difficulties could be greater, instead everything was fine, no difficulties.
small airport
almost 40 minutes to get the baggage
Very chaotic and disorganized, bad connection to the city center
is just a normal airport, nothing special to determine ...
Catania airport. Too small compared to the amount of people passing by
Modern place with qualified and very kind staff, the place is well organized with inside bars with typical local products
Too bad you have to fly with the people of Catania, otherwise everything is fine
2 hours of waiting for luggage while we were the only plane that arrived at this hour (3 min after midnight) and within the next two hours there was no next ... The return trip was better, though not entirely, on the seats in waiting rooms for passengers they are sleeping homeless ...
I have visited many airports in my life, even in america, and the one in Catania is not bad.
Never had a problem.
The upstairs bar staff is also always friendly (even at 6 am).
All said.
Absolutely ridiculous
Flights constantly delayed, frustrating for customers who wait for hours and hours .. with NO reason or communication from a speaker or staff
. Finally the ladies of easy jet disappeared after a few minutes without giving any explanation.
Your organization is 0. Usurpers of a salary that you clearly do not deserve
A very small duty free zone, and for non-residents of Europe a separate zone - in a word - Aquarium)))
Slow and poorly organized airport endless rows and bad services but !!!! I have no words
While waiting for a flight to Warsaw, it is difficult to find a place to sit, and queues while waiting for boarding make it very difficult to move around. The toilets are modern but dirty.
Security staff can speak English poorly.
Horrible. I have never seen an airport so badly organized. The queues are like nothing: it's nonsense. We queued for more than 2 hours just to drop off our luggage.
I have seen several airports in my life and this one is the worst. And apparently it's a recurring problem.
If you can, avoid it.
Long wait for luggage to land (1 hour)
Problems with the bag drop because the belt was full.
Security check slow.
Were at the airport for over 2 hours and barely made it to boarding.
Living in Catania is one of the airports I use the most for traveling)
Infinite queue before security checks. To make sure you don't miss the plane you need to go to the airport well in advance.
It seems that all passengers and airport staff understand and take adequate precautions, departures quite functional and fast. A really big problem for this airport has always been the poor hygiene and cleanliness of the sanitary services (bathrooms)
For the influx of passengers throughout the year it is much to improve ..
Badly equipped airport and a sick wait for all services ... especially car rental ... airport belonging to the 20th century.
Disgusting. All flights were delayed for hours, people were forced to crowd, boarding announced even 20 minutes before the actual start, and bathrooms in lousy conditions. Shameful
renovated structure, but badly redone the space is always the same, always in a very isolated and poorly served area
Worst airport I've ever been for baggage claim. I live here and have flown in about 20 + times. I've flown all over Europe and the States. Absolutely terrible at Catania.
The airport is one of the few things I've seen in the well organized and clean region. All areas are well indicated and the staff are helpful. For the rest, the island would have immense potential but the lack of organization and civic sense make it lacking and disorganized almost everywhere (not to mention the roads and dirt).
The only suggestion I can give is to be careful if you rent a car, because although the city of Catania is littered with fuel distributors, there are none near the airport !!!
Arrived Catania airport ....... today and for the next 20 days I will have small children ........... you will be with other 20 people we will do volunteer work with them.
Help the children.
I lost my luggage, it can happen. But hell, I've been trying to call the number they told me to call for two days and no one answers. For the rest it is easy to reach and provides the necessary services while waiting to leave.
Arrive at the airport well in advance of your flight
Small airport, but well organized. Upon my arrival I swab and just waited for the result. A big minus for me, the dirty bathrooms!
Pretty decent airport, the cannolis were to die for and the coffee was a welcome relief from my long travel. Had no problems checking in, even though it was more of a domestic airport and I was on an international flight. Instructions were clearly marked. There was a good selection of shops after immigration to do last minute shopping as well.
A little too small considering the amount of air traffic that passes through this airport daily.
Third World. It was disgusting both on arrest and departure. On arrival Waiting times for biblical luggage, on departure very long check-in operations due to the new software installed (according to the operator), dear bars (1.7 half mineral !!) dirty everywhere. Too bad because Sicily deserves a better gateway.
Small but nice airport. Enjoy a pizza in the arrivals hall, it is much better and cheaper than shops after the security checkpoint.
If you're french, there is a direct flight with Easy jet from Paris CDG, which is what we took and really think it's a good deal (way in at 12, arriving at 14.30; way out at 19.45, arriving at 22.15)
Security staff was very friendly and professional, it is a good point to me who is always in stress at the checkpoint...
A little bit tricky to find the car rental service (there is so many...). I recommend Sixt/winrent.

The "new" C terminal for easyjet is awful .. check-in takes hours because the machines are inadequate and the assistance of the staff is too little.
Two hours x check-in and waiting at the gate. Unable to find the car rental section .... which is outside but not indicated
Terminal C very small, bad organization. Everything is robotic, no security (no identity check). We arrive on purpose rather to be able to register, impossible to register. We have to arrive at 8:15 am to catch the plane at 9:15 am and get back all the queue.
From complaint to heat without air conditioning terminal a and c there are not enough waiting rooms or seats yet we are talking about an airport that hosts many tourists. What a shame
Despite covid, the flow was very well arranged, but it was a pity that the sanitary is so dirty. In addition, the staff should be a lot friendlier because that does not make you happy.
I fly back in a few days and I wonder what it is like.
In short: took me 7 HOURS to sort out my reservation and still didn t end up with the car I reserved.
Arrived on time as per my booking to pick up a convertible car class. Waited two hours in line while their agents left for breaks or went home etc.
Eventually got served and was told that not only was the car I reserved not available but they had no cars in that class available. Was offered an suv in place of a convertible. After another hour of going back and forth with them, they then told me they had a convertible due back shortly and I could come back after 5pm to exchange the car and would give me an A1 in the meantime. Accepted this, only to find out that the A1 had its USB port removed, navigation disabled and the 9v power didn t work so even after spending 20 on the only 9v phone charger I could find, I had no means of navigation. Returned to this location to swap the car back and was told the car was not due back until two days later now. By this time it had been just over 7 hours from when I arrived to pickup my car. Ended up with a Golf. All cars dirty and unwashed. Agents polite but ultimately unhelpful. Why allow people to extend reservations or not get the car class into the location when you know bookings have been confirmed!?
Being one of the most important airports in Southern Italy, it is often very busy. Reachable by bus from many Sicilian locations, it is being expanded. Car parks on site and many private ones in the immediate vicinity, obviously with H24 shuttles. Always check immediately to avoid delays. Excellent food offer, both traditional and international, at the gates and at the airport. Costs in line with airport costs.
I liked the Catania airport because everything is new. In my opinion it is a modern airport.
The airport is good but beware of car hirers, especially local ones such as AG transfers, by default they charge non-existent damages, or even done on purpose on delivery, you are forced to pay without the possibility of replication, a big stain both for the plane station than for the entire city of Catania.
Very functional airport with the possibility to reach the major European capitals by direct flight
Efficient security checks, but terrible at keeping people in line for the passport checks... A lot of people are cutting a long cue of people trying to be civilised. However some still live in "I come first before everyone" ideology. Where's the airport staff and what are they doing at those passport checks?!
Yet another positive experience .. even if the breakfast counter skyrocketing prices ... and flavors that leave you deadesider.
The airport is well served by public transport and some private companies. Easy to reach the most famous tourist destinations. Services in accordance with Italian standards ...
Fresh air and many services and pleasant to enter even to have a single coffee
Yeah, so nice modern or something in the direction is something else.
For suitcases quickly get nice baker right at the exit and you will find the transfer buses very quickly
Ruined my honeymoon by losing my luggage. Don't pack by weight, pack by $ they will pay you back.
