Buffalo City Mission: Providing Hope and Help to the Homeless
The Buffalo City Mission is a non-profit organization that has been serving the homeless community in Buffalo, New York since 1917. The mission's primary goal is to provide safe shelter, hot meals, counseling, and recuperative care to those who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless.
The mission's services are available to anyone in need regardless of their race, religion or gender. The organization believes that everyone deserves a chance at a better life and works tirelessly towards this goal.
Shelter Services
One of the most important services provided by the Buffalo City Mission is shelter. The mission operates two shelters - one for men and another for women and children. These shelters provide a safe place for individuals who have nowhere else to go.
The shelters offer more than just a roof over someone's head; they also provide basic necessities such as clothing, toiletries, and bedding. Additionally, residents have access to counseling services which can help them address any underlying issues that may have contributed to their homelessness.
Meal Services
Another critical service provided by the Buffalo City Mission is meal assistance. The mission serves three meals per day - breakfast, lunch, and dinner - every day of the year. These meals are available not only to residents but also anyone in need who comes through their doors.
In addition to providing food for those in need on-site at their facilities downtown on East Tupper Street near Ellicott Street (Men’s Community Center) & Cornerstone Manor (Women & Children’s Shelter), they also operate mobile food trucks that travel throughout Western New York providing hot meals where people live outside or cannot make it into town due transportation barriers.
