Whitetail Mountain Ski Resort Review

It was wonderful, the snow was exceptional, and the food was great. Lines were not too long for lifts and tickets.

Only a few slopes were opened at the time of our visit on 1/3/19, but it was enough for us to have a great time. Basic lessons are included and very helpful especially if you have first timers. The resort was in good condition throughout and was not outdated. We would definitely recommend to friends and family.

I love Whitetail, it's my favorite Pennsylvania ski resort, however, I was irritated today because I only skied on one trail that had logos on it, my favorite, for 5 and 1/2 hours, but I'm irritated because the entire time I was skiing on it I was scraping ice because they were negligent and having not blowing any snow before I went, which is irritating, and in the end I realized that I was damaging my ears from scraping ice for 5 and 1/2 hours straight, and now my ears are ringing badly from it

Great experience for my daughter! She learned how to ski from a friend in an hour and hasn't stopped loving it. There are many helpful folks and a fun atmosphere!

Wonderful place to take the family. Well run and staff is extremely friendly and helpful. We live in Florida and the past 3 years we have traveled North to take the kids tubing, this place is by far the best!!

This is the best skiing and snowboarding you are going to get close to DC.

Great place, good trails, not too busy today although the main lift could have used some traffic control during peak times.

Best resort that is close to dc, the rating is vs the comparison of other resorts nearby (whitetail has nothing on larger resorts such as snowshoe). I recommend skiing mid week as there rarely are any lift lines then

Great tubing hills. Prices are high, but as my husband pointed out they have to make up for warmer weather. So overall it was a great place to go. Alittle over crowded on saturday but it was a great time.

Nice resort.Unfortunately not a lot of snow yet,weather has been too warm.

My son and his friends were very disappointed to find that the resort does not maintain their snow as well as it's sister resorts. One of them actually said "if this had been the first place I ever snowboarded I don't think I would have continued". Maybe we went on a bad night, not sure bit we wound up leaving early. Facilities are nice, plenty of room.

Small, but ok for a quick day trip for beginners. If you're trying to learn, this is good.

Employees are uninformed due to poor management. I was sold a ticket with the understanding that the amount of the ticket would be deducted from my night club card amount. I spoke with 2 representatives about this program prior to participating. Both of these representatives did not seem familiar with the program, which was highly evident by the time I went to redeem it. The manager told me even though the previous representatives did not make me aware that I would have to purchase the lift/lesson/rental NCC even though I only wanted the lift pass. Again, this stipulation was not communicated to be previously. I called in attempt to resolve the issue and the guest services manager was dismissive and provided no service. I've been a customer for many years, and now I can not recommend whitetail and I won't be a returning customer.

A full service resort. Rentals, lessions, good places to eat, repairs, parts, clothes, everything needed to explore the slopes. Lots of slopes to choose. Family resort.

Came for a discounted day in March and it was awesome! There weren't many people at all and everyone working there was really helpful. My kids had a blast. Even though it was 60 degrees out and skiing in short sleeves, we didn't have any trouble with the snow.

I went with some family friends on a Friday after 5:00, the lines were really short and I only ever waited like a minute at the most. We all had loads of fun. I had always gone skiing at Liberty, but Whitetail is so much better if you're more of an intermediate to advanced skier. There's almost no comparison.

Omg this place was epic!! It was our first time skiing and the beginner trails were perfect! We ended up upgrading to the blue trails on our trip. The place is slightly over priced and over crowded. People were wiping out alot because of how crowded the slopes were. So if possible ski in the late afternoon when the crowds are gone. It's much much more enjoyable when there's less people in your way.

Went here for snowboarding lessons with my son. The instructors are great here and my 5 year old loves it. Definitely doing season pass next year. Wish we had tried this in December

First class local spot. Great staff, super friendly folks who work hard to make it nice when the weather permits. Go early and you'll love it forever.

It is very close to DC. The price for packages and lessons is very decent. The first time I went, it was crowded. In spite of that, the attention of the instructors and staff was superb.

Worst of the three. I have been here a couple of times this winter and the only snow that was decent was the fresh snow that fell the night before my first time here. The quality of their snow is not good and they lie on their snow report to get you to come. Their pizza shop cannot handle a moderate rush. I can only imagine how long it takes to get a pizza when they are busy. My favorite trail of theirs is always covered in moguls. Good for skiers. I snowboard. The trails are nice and long as well as fast but after dealing with the ice they have on it you wish they were shorter. Roundtop and liberty are better.

TERRIBLE! TERRIBLE! JUST TERRIBLE! the staff at the snow tubing area, my friend accidentally fell off his tube, then the lady cut of his tag and told us to leave. Also, i asked the man at the top (politely) if i can ride down and he had a rude approach toward me and said No. I do not plan on going to Whitetail again. After my dad talked to the manger, my friend and I went down the hill, the man at the bottom rushed us (yelled at us) to get up so other people can slide (he said this as soon as we came to a stop. When we were leaving, the staff stared me and my friend down!

Last time I was there it was so awesome that when I came home I started to cry because I had so much fun on the k side . Also the ski lift was fun.

Time it for snow days and go early before it melts.. Machines are run on cold days through the night to produce around 3" of powder.

Suppose to go skiing on New Years Eve and day, booked the reservation 2 months ahead of time. When we checked in the manager advised us that everything on the resort was closed, due to the weather conditions. She advised that we should go to the Hagerstown Outlets or go hiking if we want to do anything. We asked for a REFUND and she said we dont do that. Needless to say, we will NEVER go back there again. What a waste of 400 dollars.

It's okay for what it's worth. Not somewhere you go to spend a week at but more of a day trip. Make sure to bring all you're going to eat and drink cause it's marked way up for obviously reasons. A great place to learn during the weekdays.

Wonderful experience ever, learned skiing for the first time

Great when it is snowing. Well lit for night snowboarding and after 4:30pm on Sundays it's only $50 to be on the mountain until close (10pm).

For a rainy day, it turned out ok, could not believe how fast the chair lift was.

Still really like Whitetail. But, today on a Monday with everyone off it got really really crowded and would have liked to have seen better control of the lines. The people working the lifts did a great job of getting people on and off the lifts. But the main quad lift pretty much turned into a mosh pit of people trying to get into the lines. Had to rent gear this time and think for Monday they were a little overwhelmed staffing with the number of people that didn't have school between the snow and gov liberal leave due to yesterday's snow. Looks like there is a lot of concentration on blowing snow on two of the beginner trails which really only left one open. Lots of snow there to be groomed out, just wish all three Trails were open today. Great food choices as well....

Arrive very early to avail of the tickets. They open at 4-10pm. They have the tendency to close the ticket sale for night as early as 5pm! The staff can't manage the crowd and they don't have a numbering system to sell the ticket as they seem to b guessing how many more capacity they can sell.

i was really surprised how good my experience was at Whitetail yesterday. I love to ski out west but have avoided east coast skiing - too many crowds, too many out of control skiers, poor conditions, and mediocre facilities overall but my trip to Whitetail made for a fun day of skiing. I forgot my boots (ugh) so I had to rent equipment and the staff went out of their way to get me good equipment and get me on the slopes quickly. I like how the slopes are broken out with the easier runs on one lift and the other two lifts for more advanced skiing. The runs were well groomed and not too crowded even for a Sunday. I will definitely go again.

Great variety of difficulty in slopes. Clean facilities and friendly staff. Fast lifts on blues and faster on blacks.

Still the best of the three DC area ski hills in terms of terrain and hill operations. Most vertical as well.

Great family-oriented ski place not too far from DC. It's surprisingly cozy and they have some decent skiing too!

I think it's by far the best skiing in the Baltimore D.C. Area. It's well maintained and the trails are great. It is definitely harder than Liberty and Roundtop though, so be warned. It is the ski resort I go to most often in the area.

Although it was 50 degrees and the snow was total slush, it was still a great time! The trails are 3x as long as what I'm used to here in Ohio so spending more time on the trail than the lift was exciting! The green trail lift was the exception, that is painfully slow. Overall a great time.

Late open to the season but trust and believe when I say the Whitetail team did NOT disappoint! Not too icy, not too hard packed, not too slushy. Great mix of moguls and flat on the blue pistes.

We all went tubbing for the first time since we've lived semi close. An we all had a great time. They stopped doing tandem rides due to the ice that formed due to all the rain. But even so, Total absolute blast. You pick up so much speed, it seems your going to crash. An then right before you do. You stop an are ready to go again. Food and drinks priced very high. So eat or bring drinks before hand. Paid almost 13 bucks for 3 hot chocolate. But great time. Very kid friendly. An very understanding that your 2 year old is on the go go go.

Awesome place! Plenty of slopes for a weekend trip. Express lift is great!

Reasonable prices and Short lines! (I went on a Saturday, mid-day.) Be sure to get the 2-hour pass as it costs just $5 more than the 1-hour pass and you'll need the 2 hours. The time will go by fast!! Expect to get about 3 runs in per hour.

My favorite slope is Angel Drop. The snow was really good even though it was really hot. I always have fun there and it wasn't that busy.

A small resort but it has some of the longest trails in the region. All the usual amenities you expect to find. Ok food in the cafeteria and also a restuarant available. For those who have visited before god news they have applied for an alcohol license :)

This place is amazing! And it has the best pizza ever!

The resort refused to give me a refund when the conditions were horrible. They said I was too late even though I went down only once.
