I love this place, its landscape, I love the mountains ..
The mountain is good with lots of trails for different levels of skill. On a busy day the lines can get very long. The food court is expensive but what resort food court isn't? I definitely recommend this resort for any skiier.
Whitetail is a very good place for a beginner to learn Skiing.. Its a half day to a full day fun activity. We had so much fun.! My friends and I were new to skiing experience and we fell down like a million times and we were laughing at each other. More the number of people in a group more the fun.!! There are different tracks for different levels and Instructors are very kind to help all the way long. May be little crowded on the weekends but definitely worth trying. Bring food and snacks if planning on staying for more than 4 hours.
Slopes are really fun the angles are really enjoyable
My favorite place to ski, snow tube, etc. Great customer service. Everyone is always so happy.
Best snow tubing place. Restaurants are way costly and food is not great
A great ski resort for the area. I'm thankful for its close proximity to DC! Snow conditions are not always great, especially after the beginning of February, but that's more of a product of the location and climate.
One of my favorite parks but sadly due to the lack of snow we haven't had this season it's been man made ice pretty much. Wouldn't recommend novice riders unless you're ready to fall on ice hard. Granted normally it's great and a fun place to go. Just need mother nature to kick in a little more to help the resort out. 5 stars cause usually it has many slopes open and fresh powder.
The resort has lots to do. Though it hadn't snowed, the man-made variety was good, though natural snow is 100x better. At least they keep the slopes groomed and the trails were open.
The rental process is fairly smooth, but you need to fill out a form which you can do in line. Stone simple, no major surprises. Be ready to rent a locker for $10 for the day to put your shoes, if you'd like. Many just left them about, which is a risk, but it seems like everybody was respectful. Once you finish the paperwork, you'll head down for the equipment itself. Be sure to note there are TWO lines, check both if it seems busy. Once done, head for the slopes or your lesson.
The slopes were packed, it was a holiday weekend, after all. We took first timer lessons, and their instructors are awesome! Patient, thorough and personable. Shout out to Tom who did some amazing one on one instruction. After the lesson we did a few more runs, but by mid-afternoon, the lifts were jammed unless you were more advanced. It was a deterrent, for sure.
Time to eat...you have a variety of choices. Nothing off site, though as you'll need to leave campus and drive a few miles...not worth it in my opinion. Rather bring a lunch or buy. We chose to eat at Solstice, big mistake. High prices, mediocre, lukewarm food and a forever wait. While the staff was mostly courteous, the restaurant could use some management help as servers were often confused at where orders should go, the wait for dining or bar was terribly confusing and the kitchen was at least an hour behind. They were certainly not at their best or near it, not at all.
Overall, the resort gets three stars, it is a decent drive from DC and a great change of venue. They need to work on their customer experience to get 4 stars from me. I will go back again one day...after a really good storm.
The wife and I went tubing (we're not skiiers) and had a blast. If you're looking to have a couple hours of giggles with your significant other this is a great way to do it. We had a lot of fun here.
Efficient operation, uninteresting trails but better than neighboring Liberty or Roundtop. Most trails just go straight down the mountain with few turns. Lift technology is quite good. Fast for the main trails. Even the bunny slopes have chair lifts besides carpet lifts given the extensive learning areas. Good atmosphere spoilt by dated music. Best when a snowstorm hits DC, Balto or VA.
I don't like it personally. I personally find skiing super boring, just waiting for my hands and feet to break.
Claim to respect first responders, do not actually respect first responders.
They sell too many tickets...45min -1 hr lift lines is unacceptable especially after spending g all that money to be there
We had gone for snow tubing. The management at the snow tubing was good. The workers were very enthusiastic. The snow lanes started slowing down by mid afternoon. The apace is huge. Need better food options. A quick winter getaway for DC
Had a great experience, the staff as well as other customers were very nice and willing to help. I actually learned to ski using skills taught in the learn to ski class.
Highly recommend. Great resort. Long day of snowboarding. Everyone was nice. After all that we got food from the food court. A bit over priced but after a l ok mg day of skiing or snowboarding, its great. 5/5 definitely going back.
Wonderful resort, tons of fun for the family. Decent vertical and a bit of something for everyone!
Whitetail has to be one of the busiest hills of it's size on the east coast. Considering their volume and the tricky weather of the region, they do a good job maintaining the runs and managing the crowds.
However, this is not a great value. Lift tickets are expensive, and unless you go on a Wednesday morning, you will wait in long lines for slow lifts that constantly stop. A half day pass will get you about 12-15 runs (if you're a non-beginner), and you'll spend most of your 4hrs doing things other than ski/ride.
That being said, if you love skiing and snowboarding you'll come here because you don't have alot of other options nearby, and there are some fun runs to be had here. Whitetail is a bit bigger and faster than roundtop or liberty, but even that is evened out by the bigger crowds and longer waits.
75$ for 8 hours on 23 trails. The biggest challenges on this mountain are justifing the cost to yourself and avoiding the skiers falling over nothing. Be prepared to spend a lot of time waiting for the lift as they stop often and are slow to begin with. Fun for a learning skiier
Not a skier but it's a nice place lot of people having fun
Great time at an affordable price. Rented all the equipment and spent the entire day on the slopes. Decent bit of ice, so make sure to check the forecast. Fair selection of routes, but it can be unbearably crowded on the weekends.
Whitetail is an awesome place to go with friends they have 3 different places where you can eat and if it's your first time skiing or snowboarding they have lessons. They also have tubing if you can't ski or snowboard you can also rent skis or boards if you want to stay for multiple nights you can rent one of their resort side homes.
Great family experience! Great staff, beautiful scenery, fantastic skiing, boarding and tubing
Rubbing was alright, did not have the moguls for bounce fun. Staff was very nice. Go inside to pay and avoid lines. We we not Friday 1pm, no waits.
Does not generate artificial snow regularly, trail becomes icy in the afternoon
It s a good place to learn ski or snowboarding. It s great for beginners and intermediate skiers. Once you get advanced it gets boring cause they don t have lots of black diamonds. They don t usually get lots of snow either so mostly the condition is a bit icy.
Great local mountain to go for the day without having to drive too far in the middle of nowhere
Private lesson put me at ease. Instructor Anne was awesome and helpful. All staff were friendly and there are slopes for all levels.
It was my first time skiing and it was just such a wonderful experience! The instructor was really nice and helpful! I will definitely be visiting this resort next time I am in town!
The place is very neat and organized. The people helped us with what ever we needed. If you go I suggest having a hat that stays on or holding it cause it might fly off, though you can get someone to climb up to retrieve it, it holds up the line. It has snowboarding, skiing, and snow tubing. I reccomend this if you want to have a very fun night. There is also a couple hotels near it.
Had a fabulous day skiing for free because of their annual military and first responder appreciation day special. Staff was super friendly. Trails are a bit short but we'll groomed. Delightful resort, will definitely be returning another time!
Fun place to go and work on progressing. They have complimentary ski and snowboard check which is super nice. It's also nice that that lifts to the more advanced slopes are further away from the lodge so it tends to be less crowded.
6 stars.
First I'll say that Roundtop and Liberty are definitely five star. Fantastic resorts for the location. It's impressive that resorts even exist in these hills.
Whitetail, however, hits it out of the park and into the next. It is comparable to a resort I frequent in California. If I were to find Whitetail in the West, I'd still give it 4 stars. Staff are insanely friendly. I've never been to any entrainment establishment and felt so at home. The employees that work on the Host staff actually have been good friends with you your whole life, you just forgot. Their trail variety is awesome. They have everything from easy sightseeing trails to quick trails to mess around on to trails to race on to straight drops. It's fantastic. My favorite trails live at Roundtop (Susquehanna and Lafayette's Leap), but Whitetail does have more variety.
Didn't get a chance to visit the pizzeria, but the food court was good. Good food for good prices.
My advice: if all three resorts are about the same distance from you, go to Whitetail. You will not regret it.
Beggars can't be choosers. But $72 for 4 hours is INSANE!!!
Snow conditions as of today Jan 13th is really thin. mud and rocks in some trails unmarked. Not safe.
Would not have driven here today if i knew how thin the snow is.
And i bet the resort wish they would have made more snow last week when they had the chance.
Right now when i got here it is plus 8 deg C
And that's not the resorts fault.
But i really think they should have made more snow last week.
Best of the local hills, gets very crowded on weekends.
i give this place straight f's, for fun-fall-festivities!
although prices at these ski resorts could be a little more reasonable, especially for families that aren't extremely wealthy, we still enjoyed ourselves at their fall festival. with plan's to find a somewhat reasonable package for some winter skiing and boarding.
thank you to the kind folks at Whitetail, who made our time there an enjoyable one!
I love it the food was the bomb and all the people are very nice
Not too crowded, good coverage, snow guns are making it challenging.
Great time for my family first experience. The artificial snow was nice but it would have been nice to have the real stuff. The staff was outstanding. I didn't know a ski from a pole the were very patient. By the end if the day I was going down the blue Mountain
Had a great time with Noah and The Slingers on the tubing run 2/23/19 in the AM. They even sang Happy Birthday to my friend and made our time enjoyable. Keep having fun and doing a great job! Thanks for a great time!! Laura, Liz and Kaaaathiii.
As a beginner I've really enjoyed their slopes. They have nice slopes for every level. The mountain isn't equal to the Alps or Colorado mountains but for the area, it's nice. Later in the evening, everything is lit up pretty well. Nice restaurants, if a little pricey, to go to. Clean facility. Overall, I enjoy spending my winter evenings here when I can.
I was very impressed by the slope's appearance. I dropped off my daughter but I honestly wanted to get out and play.
I will return for the tubing, however, I will take advantage of the deals during the week.
Went to whitetail to learn to snowboard took one beginner lesson and boarded nonstop for 4 hours, falling and whatnot. Came back a year later and somehow managed to put my skills together and master snowboarding.
I enjoyed whitetail much more than trashy liberty.
Very fun experience. Resort is great. Rentals were actually good.
We can with the intentions of having my 3.5yo slide down the kiddie tubing trail. One of the ladies who work here suggested for us to take him to the bigger one even though it meant paying for an adult ticket. I am so glad we took her advice! He had so much fun as did we. So worth the trip.
Decent skiing for intermediate to advanced skiers and boarders. Not the best place to learn to ski/board, Liberty would probably be a better choice for beginners.
First time snow boarding. The instructor was great. But a guy name Jake working the a lift. He was so rude and very contemptuous towards my family and I. I went to liberty the next day and had a better experience.
Got there in the morning and had fun shredding the slopes with my snowboard all day
Average slopes for the area, the lodge is mediocre. Good for day trips.
Whitetail resort is awesome. Good times to be had. You can ski, snowtubbing, snowboard or just relax and watch. Ive been there several times. You can have weddings, Birthday parties or just gather as a group and enjoy your surroundings. Check out their websites for all the conditions, weather and what you nedd and should expect when visiting Whitetail. The pizza place had great pizza. The starbucks coffee was ok... not the best but eh... it warmed ya up.
A great snow resort. The lifts were nice and fast and the trails were awesome. But some courses feel like the exact same
Is was very crowded. They should have opened the party areas
Great day skiing. Takes a long time to hire stuff though.
Perfect weather, awesome service, beautiful slopes. Very helpful lesson got us snowboarding within 2 hours. Tons of fun!
Instructors are great. Food options are plentiful. Slopes are a good mix for all levels.
Good snow, good service and good slopes... no complaints!
There wasn't much snow on mountains and the ones that had it was like ice
There was a skiing part and snow tubing part that we had a lot of fun at.
Decent conditions but a little icy in spots. Not that crowded in the afternoon but a madhouse at 10AM.
Great place to ski and snowboard, but always really packed on the weekends
I've enjoyed both the private and group lessons. Even when I'm not in a lesson if an instructor sees me really struggling they stop and give me pointers.
It's plenty of fun and has kind staff. A nice place to go if you're looking for a bit of fun.
Nice place to have dinner. We had the whole place for ourselves. Delicious food and nice service. Beautiful view while enjoying dinner.
Great place for skiing or snowboarding. Very friendly staff.
