Whitetail has improved recently. More eating options and room to sit and eat help as does the free WiFi. Their upgrades to snow making is really noticeable as well!

Spend the 2018 new years eve and new years day there... awesome snowtubbing
Whitetail Resort is an awesome place. Their staff goes above and beyond to make us feel welcome (The Charles County Special Olympics as well as many other counties within the state) The food is good. The bathrooms are always immaculate and everyone is very helpful and possitive.
Lost my granddaughter at her lessons! Could not find her for 30 minutes!!! Very scary. Staff could not care less.
Great resort, great slopes and stuff
Just bring your own food or eat on the way, because the prices of the food are ridiculous and not at all worth the price (12$ for a plain burger and fries -_- )
Can get crowded on weekends especially holiday weekends. Great for md/pa day ski trip, check the conditions before you go.
For a quick drive outside of the DC area. It ok. The last few times I been there it has been way over crowded. Long lines and short runs.
Wish it had a bigger selection of freestyle boxes, rails, etc. And the jumps they do have are only for experts they dont really have small amd meduim size jumps. Need a better selection and variety. Other than that it was pretty fun place to snowboard, i would recommend coming days when it recently snowed makes it alot more fun.
As good as it can be, considering the mid Atlantic location. People are nice and they do a better job with snowmaking and grooming than other local places. Haven't been since new owners though. The only drawback is guest services office, which is horribly slow every time I go, and the people working there never seem to know how to use the computer systems. If you don't need them, service is fine at the ticket windows and such.
Great place! Very friendly, helpful staff, especially ski instructors Bruce and Tim who were able to offer us tips on how to improve our skiing. Nice rental equipment too.
Kids had a great time skiing and snow boarding. My only complaint is that the seating area for non skiers is rather uncomfortable... just tables and chairs for an 8 hour wait.
Best ski area close to DC. They have done some updates of their facilities recently. The vertical drops are 900' for the intermediate slopes and 700' for the advanced slopes.
Great local mountain, staff, snow making and facilities. The only draw back, if any, are the crowded lift lines on holiday weekends. However, the number, width and quality of runs mean you can always find good, uncrowded snow--if you know where to look!
Not Colorado but for the East Coast and even with man made snow, it was a great day. Night skiing was a big plus.
Our 2 daughters participated in ski camp. Our oldest got a wonderful gal and learned lots. Our younger (5 yo) unfortunately got stuck with 3 people who really did not want to be doing what they were doing. They werent mean, just a tad impatient and uninterested. They also spoke very poor english, which compounded the problem. We watched them from the sidelines like a hawk after seeing what the situation was, def will not be using the camp again. (They literally misplaced a child at checkout) Its a shame bc it's such a good idea. The actual Mt is a good mix for novice skiiers from the mid-atlantic area, great kids slopes. A couple good deals online vs walk up.
Very good customer service, good rental gear, good ski patrol team, great slopes, always well groomed snow, generally doesn't get too crowded. Great overall vibe!
After 34 years of snow skiing on two skis, I decided it was time to learn snowboarding. My 12 yr old daughter was also very excited to learn snowboarding. We purchased the All Mountain Pass which allowed my daughter and I full mountain(s) access all day through 10pm as well as equipment rental.
Because we had all day to have fun, we decided to rent snow skis to play for a few hours on the fully open Whitetail Ski Resort. The weather was a very unusual yet perfect 62 F in February. Even with the warm weather, the base was at least 48 inches everywhere. My daughter especially loved the soft snow conditions when she would fall.
After a few hours of skiing, we took a rest and had some lunch. Then, we returned our ski equipment and traded for snowboard equipment. We then went to our included free lesson with the awesome instructors, Tom and Christopher.
Where we met up for class, there was another class for skier about to start that had at least 25-30 new skiers all lined up. Then, we went to the location for our snowboard class and found there was only 4 other people waiting for class to start. The class was the perfect size for the instructor, Tom. He was awesome! he explained everything making sure we understood. Then, we started practicing form to which Tom would spend as much time as needed with each patron making sure he/she got it. We then were handed off to Christopher who put us on the covered conveyor belt up to the top of the slope.
Christopher continued the lesson making sure each on of us picked up his teachings. After practicing for a little while Christopher took us to the big bunny slope to which we snow boarded down. We then paired up and got on the lift.
This was definitely the scariest part because getting off the lift was going to be tricky for all of us. Because of Christopher's awesome instruction, we all felt confident enough to board the lift. Only one person in our class fell while getting off the lift. We then got back together as a group.
Christopher had as "board" over to different spots on the slope in order to give instruction. He was instrumental in getting all of us to the bottom of the slope. Everyone in the class couldn't wait to take the ski lift again back to the top to practice. The worst part of the instruction was when Christopher told us that he would not be accompanying us back to the top and we had to say goodbye.
Because of Tom and Christoopher, we had an awesome time at Whitetail Ski Resort. I highly recommend this ski resort to anyone at any and all ski and/or snowboard levels.
Decent location for DMVers. Quite busy when weather is nice.
Just needed a bigger launching area but it was great. The staff made it fun.
Super nice place and beautiful facilities.
The staff made it all worth it!
Brand new rental ski equipment too. It's a dry resort, so be mindful of that.
It was a blast and the people there are awesome!
One of the restaurants wasn't opened so we went to the Pizzeria place. You can also choose from the food court as well.
Good skiing, better snow than anywhere else locally, but food prices are astronomical
Can't expect too much with fewer crouds , comparing to white tale and liberty
We love whitetail. Its certainly not the largest or fastest slopes in the NE, but we always have a blast.
Small mountain but great for one or two days skiing. Ski school is excellent. All attendants are helpful and happy to help
Ski here every year. Always fun staff is friendly and crowded on some days but around 8pm it clear and when it gets dark and the turn the lights on it looks really cool. Recommend this one for a family trip but bring your on food or eat somewhere else food and drinks are pricey
Great layout of facilities and very helpful people.
Pricey, but the snow was great and so were the slopes.
They haven't had much snow this winter so a couple slopes were shut down. They were making snow all day which made it hard to see in some parts of the slopes as you were going down and unbearably cold as snowish ice hit your face. The lodge was wonderful; Clean, warm and had a variety of foods to select from. Bathrooms were also clean and warm.
Okay resort for its location that is well run and staffed. These are not the rocky mountains, so if you can get past that and just want to get on the snow, this resort is perfectly fine.
The kids camp is great. My kids had a blast, learned a lot, and I was able to get a few hours in on the slopes.
On the expensive side for what it is and it seems like the prices increase every year.
The best place to go skiing in the area. Awesome new years celebration
Friendly staff that clearly puts lots of hard work into maintaining the slopes & facilities! We only got there for the last end of the night-skiing shift, and it would be awesome if there were better deals as closing time drew near. Traffic kept us from taking advantage of the whole night-skiing package, but we had to pay the full price for half the time we were on the mountain.
Great place to bring your family. Beautiful facility. Staff was fast and very polite. And the quality of the slopes was perfect! Great place to learn how to ski
Great place for the whole family. The new additions is great. Pricing is high be prepared!
The ski resort is setup well, however I can only give 4 star's due to no beer or wine being available at the resort. Staff are great.
Great place to go skiing near dc area. Better than liberty. Good selection and safe environment. The reason I didn't give 5 stars is that the ramp on easy/ beginning is too short and steep and the lift are being ran like it's gonna break your legs. It's so fast. Doesn't look and doesn't feel safe on or off ramp on top for easy beginner area. Fix for this would be build a longer ramp and natural decline for easy take off then adjust speed of lift as riders off-board the lift. This will help immensely on the lag time from them stopping the lift and offloading riders manually because of constant falls.
My son absolutely loved the snow tubing. I would recommend it to anyone looking to have a bit of fun.
Never had skii before for my entire life. Marcos. From Brazil was a very patient traineer, I literally almost about to give up, but with his patient with me, I could see my self skiing again,,!!! Thank you Marcos..!!!!!!
This was my first time to Whitetail, all employees were very helpful. The employees at the rental building were beyond helpful in teaching me on how to put on the ski boots and even helped me take them off after my lesson was over. I had a learn to ski package and Lloyd was my instructor. He was very friendly, and had great knowledge and helped me all morning long. I then ate lunch at the pizzeria they have on location and ordered the personal size meat lovers. It was absolutely delicious. I plan on purchasing a season pass for the 2019-2020 winter season and continue to go back.
Giving one star after a 2 hour drive only to be told the wait for tubing was 4 hours. Ummm, post that on your website, folks. 4 hours RT of my life I can't get back.
Nearby to DC region, decent slopes. Infrastructure is dated.
Only place making snow for tubing. Disappointed that they don't give military discount to at least the retirees along with active duty personnel.
Short version: I went there on a weekday so it wasn't busy at all, and I had a great time. The prices were acceptable for one day but got more affordable with multiple day packages, I would say it is on par with other resorts in the area.
Continued: The resort had just gotten about 3 inches of powder which made for a great skiing experience on all the slopes I went on. This resort has lovely views with a challenging slopes that are more than enough to appease your skiing appetite. The only reason I docked a star is that the food is only a step or maybe a step and a half above cafeteria food however it is priced higher than a restaurant, which leaves a bad taste in my mouth, pun intended. That being said, I would definitely come here again for the slopes and acceptable pricing for a day of fun skiing.
I brought my son and nephew (ages 9 & 7) for snow tubing in January. The area was nice and nicely updated. The ticket booth staff was nice enough but seemed annoyed when customers asked questions. The staff working the snow tubing area was extremely friendly and personable. We had a good experience and will be back for future visits.
Whitetail is a beginners mountain. A family oriented place. If you want to have a beer Whitetail is not the place for you as the county is a dry one. Otherwise great place to come snowboard or ski with the family!
Reviewing as a novice skier I have been skiing for three years. I have learned at this resort and love almost all of it.
The tail is empty mid week after president's day. Great spring skiing this year (i.e. soft snow).
Great price for a wonderful experience. The staff is very helpful and the environment is exactly what is expected at a lodge. I highly recommend this place!
Simple to guide urself through trails. Many options to pick. Variety, fun, good pizza and food.
Too many moguls!!! 6 out of 8 slopes are covered in moguls, no fun, will not go back, didn t use to be like that, the terrain park was good, I m snowboarder and every skier I talked to hated the moguls as well, I don t get it!
Had a great first time out experience at this ski resort. Good friendly service and helpful staff. It was not crowded the day i went, which I loved!
This is one of my favorite resorts in the DMV area. They have long solid runs where you can really get some great progression. Highly recommend it but always make sure to check the snow report before going.
Best Ski/Snowboard resort in the DC area. Has trails for all ability levels, with great specials for 1st timers. For intermediate/advanced skiers Whitetail has the only high speed detachable lift in the within 2 hours of DC. Only downside is that there is NO BAR. BYOB is allowed by the resort though.
Great and accessible with little time and effort from DC. Also they now have a bar!!!!
I don't have much choice around my area for kids ski and tubing. The ticket window was outside so I stranded in line for about 10 minutes while my kids stayed inside cafe. But later, they called me and there is another ticket window inside cafe as well. I wish they put a sign on so that many people don't wait cold weather outside.
Inside cafe is too small and too crowded. Many people changed their wet cloth there and leave their ski or board equipment on the table not others use the table.
Food is expensive which is ok we took out own food.
Went for snow tubing at this place , great place for fun for adults and kids .Not to far com Rockville, MD where we stayed . They have great ski slopes too but it's good to stay over for a night if you ant to enjoy both .
Fun place for snow tubing close to Washington and Baltimore
