Get different workouts under single roof. Helpful staff!!
I go to the NSYMCA 3-4 times a week to workout and to play basketball. The recent upgrades they've made to the facilities are awesome and the staff is always super friendly. Would definitely recommend to others.
Super friendly staff, community focused programs, many extra services like towels and rewards and good facilities.
My 8 year old son was bullied by the Child Care staff in the X Zone. It was staffed with teenagers who are not qualified to watch children. The staff turned off his game while he was playing it, called him a dog and a baby, and threw balls at him until he screamed and cried. My husband was a few feet away and no one came to get him. Howard Schultz, the CEO, made the decision to continue to allow these teenagers to supervise children. I do not believe children are safe at this facility, and I hope you learn from my child's hard lesson.
EDIT: We attend Lifetime Fitness now and have had no issues. This remains a traumatic event in the story of my child, and it is heartbreaking to see the continued dismissal of his experiences, as seen in the response below. Keep your children safe and steer clear..
Very nice facility, with a good variety of activities and equipment. I would rate this a 5 if they had a Technogym Ecite arm bike. As it is, I am rating it a 4.5.
Greg Chambers
Nice facility. Friendly and helpful staff. Wide variety of equipment.
The people here are really friendly and the activities are a blast
The saddest part of the new YMCA is it's no longer accessible to those who aren't wealthy. I grew up at the Y. I have just discovered that those days are OVER. $708 a year folks! That's twice the price of most gyms. You used to go to the Y because they were reasonable and down to earth. Not anymore. What really hurts is I had to fill out this very invasive application to get the fee reduced. It was so completely humiliating. Invasive as it was I did it even though it really didn't ask the right questions. I've been living in the area so long and I really need to go to the gym because my health is suffering but every time I tried to join the fees were just unmanageable. So I applied then FINALLY they send me a note saying they can give me 10% off like they're doing me a favor. That's $70. They say I make too much money. They didn't take into account that I'm $70k under water on my home. But you know, I'm rich. Someone I know, who is rich actually, said the price was outrageous and so she found she couldn't join. What kills me is I told another woman how great the Y was and I'm trying to convince her to join. I tell her how they do so much and they try to help people. What a crock! I'm so broken-hearted. I always believed in the Y because they cared about the community. They were supposed to be not-for-profit. I guess that's over now.
I am only rating the gym, locker room and customer service.
1. Customer service: from day one I have received great service. A warm welcome at the door every time, and always willing to help. I even forgot a hair tie once and a lady in the art room cut me some stretchy material and I made a pony tail holder. That was awesome.
2. Gym: they have a awesome lifting area. I do HITT workouts and there is plenty of room. Only problem I have is: no slam balls, and drinking fountain is no where to be found downstairs (bring water).
3. Locker room: clean, provide blow dryers. Only problem is showers. Takes a while for water to get hot, stalls too small with only a curtain that doesn't really cover you and you run into it when taking a shower which grosses me out.
All in all I am happy, and would recommend you checking this gym ou
I went he was my husband for a health fair was very nice.
Well maintained, nice pool and weight lifting rooms
BEWARE of YMCA's summer camp!!!!!!!!
Kathy and whomever else this may concern:
There should be no second chances on the well-being of my child especially if your camp is advertising on zero tolerance for bullying. There is no swapping camps or returning at this point.
We will be withdrawing my son from your summer program and we, as a family, will no longer attend the YMCA.
We are heartbroken that we (having grown up as YMCA children) entrusted our precious son to you for a fun summer experience and what he received was an emotional and mental scar.
We will be reporting this incident to DCFS and also contacting a lawyer for child neglect and abuse. We will make reports on the continous name calling, pushing, the harassment in swimming pool water, locker room, and soccer field which happened within a 5 day time span.
Up to this point, no proactive action has been taken from YMCA as an institution that promotes a safe, fun, and healthy environment. Everything my 7 year old child went through was the opposite of what you advertise and we will make sure other parents are aware of this. We are ashamed to have trusted your facility with our children.
Going to the YMCA where good is brought and given, has been a tradition for decades in our family, supporting YMCA facilities in California and Illinois. You feed off the good in family's hearts. Your corrupt and avaricious decision to employ young teenagers , some 11 years old (!!!), to instruct and keep safe our children results in serious harm, this time harm done to my child.
What your neglect has put my son through has no monetary value and we will press charges.
Worst front desk employees!! Rude not gonna recommend to anyone!!!
Have been going here since my children were small and it just keeps getting better.
Great programs for all ages, super friendly staff, great hours, just a wonderful facility all in all.
The worst customer service and attitude from supervisory stuff! Will not recommend to anyone !
Everyone, staff and members could not have been nicer to a new confused first time visitor
North Suburban YMCA is a good but old facility. Unless you got used to it it feels like a maze, especially since a lot is on the underground level with locker rooms and a gym. Everything feels disjointed as if there is no ryme or reason for where to go. Once you get used to it it's OK but still after years going in there I have to stop and think how to get where I need to go. Also, it's mostly meant for kids facility so a lot of equipment is in various disconnected rooms.
Also, the overall price for just adults is high in contrast to the completion around. So unless you are buying into a family membership and have several kids attending classes it may not be worth it. As an example, Pool hours are quite limited for Open Swim.
Great place to exercise and have fun with family and friends.
Love the Y. A lot of equipment, steam room, sauna and whirlpool. Big clean locker rooms. Staff is very nice too.
Great experience, Amazing people, Best camps. Extraordinary, staff.
I moved here recently and really needed a family friendly place where my children could feel welcomed and at home. The YMCA has been amazing. My daughter and son attend the after school care program and preschool program and I just love the counselors and staff. I can't say enough wonderful things about what they do for my kids and for me! They go out of their way to welcome us. I highly recommend it for so many reasons!
Pretty nice considering the price. Needs pest control.
Great facility with friendly and professional staff. In need of maintenance and rehab in many areas. The pool is smallish and falls short of expectations. Registration system, especially for camps, woefully outdated and needs to be modernized.
Nice facilities, very friendly & helpful staff, great fitness programming. Clean.
I don t find the Y as useful for people who work. I see tons of classes during the morning or early day, but fewer for people who get off work at 4 or so and want to have a workout around 5 or 5:30. Right now, they only have up a schedule for the two weeks of break and nothing after that which makes it difficult to plan.
Quality facility, in need of some renovations, and is not a massive location (especially the weight room), but the staff is friendly and it is a comfortable atmosphere to work out in. -1 star for the terrible smelling locker rooms, and the fact that the lost and found is not guarded at all.
The YMCA cares about it's members and its community.
Another place where we can go and relax as a family.
Super friendly staff, large workout studios, worth every penny
I went to this YMCA because I am visiting from out of state. They were very welcoming and made it easy for me to understand the layout of this YMCA.
Went for a Halloween event what a nice place eveyone was so sweet and helpful
The NSYMCA is a great place to go and work out. I love the variety of activities they have. You never get bored! The staff is always super friendly. The staff in Child Watch & X Zone are awesome with the kids. The Y will always be my #1 place to work out.
