Not a single person has died from nuclear power generators in the US. Meanwhile, coal powerplants put out more radiation than any nuclear facility and have the highest deaths per kilowatt hour ratio of all energy solutions with nuclear power having the lowest even outperforming solar and wind in this metric. I'm 79 years old. Back in the late 1970s, I had the privilege of working on the SAR for this plant (Safety Analysis Report). I was responsible for the hydrology-hydraulic section. We designed the site to withstand the Probably Maximum Flood event, which I thought was very conservative at the time. Now that Hurricane Harvey is dumping more rain than the PMF, I hope the plant will come through okay.

Brown &&root was kicked off that job because they didn't know what they were doing so I'm am an old iron worker and I really enjoyed tearing out what BROWN & ROOT had tried and couldn't!!!!!! Long story short in 1983 union took it over and wallah, texas has one the best facility,s I've had the privilege of working on!!!!!!

Nuclear power is one of the cleanest safest forms of power generation an I am honored to have such a great project in my home state. I hope one day that more nuclear plants are built across the US as to reduce dependence on coal and other fossil fuels. Good jobs and keep that reactor trucking!

My Father Wesley P. Niemeyer worked here before he passed away in March 2011. He absolutely loved working at the South Texas Project. Good people make a good company.
I'm quite sure that the reactor design already includes a sufficient amount of safety features but my main concern is the nuclear waste that's produced after the spent fuel rods are removed from the reactor core itself.
Surely they can take all of that somewhere to be recycled, then eventually reused.
