Love this place ..Went with family and friends, everyone enjoyed a lot
Site with tracks of sky, track of tires, in this winter there was no snow, stop you can know the snow on this site and enjoy recreation with the family, in the tubing there is electric ladder.
Free parking, have a restaurant
We come here 35+ times skiing every season. They do a great job, snow making is their specialty. We're so glad that since we can't live out West or up North, we've got some place close enough to go that is fun, even if small.
Waste of money! This is the most expensive ski resort I've ever been to and it has the worst conditions as well. They also have a scam going with their lift tickets. Instead of giving you a separate receipt when you purchase your ticket, the receipt is on the actual ticket. The people at the window DO NOT tell you about this receipt (which is the only way to prove you bought a ticket) and once your ticket rips or falls off, you must purchase another one for full price. I understand some people may try and claim they purchased a ticket but didn't but if that's truly a problem, Whitetail should make sure their employees tell customers to tear off the receipt and keep it in a safe place. John D. Glover, the Guest Service Manager, is rude and will not help you in anyway, so don't bother asking. I asked to speak with the manager of the cashiers department and he just shrugged me off saying "he won't be able to help you". Very unprofessional manager, if you can call him that, and any decently run company would have fired him already. Also, be VERY careful where you leave your equipment, theft is a BIG problem at Whitetail. And remember, if anything bad happens to you there, it is all your fault and the resort WILL NOT help you whatsoever. They are only there to overcharge you for everything from the tickets ($71), to rentals ($50), to locker rentals ($12), to sodas ($4-5) etc. My advice would be to drive to Blue Mountain or Blue Knob, they are both only about an hour away from Whitetail and the conditions are always much better.
I generally only go to Whitetail once a year, for the Cedar Ridge Cardboard Derby. Afterwards my boys and I have a blast tubing all evening. The tubing is a lot of fun and the contraption designed to get you back to the top of the hill is pretty cool. Another thing of note, the burly guys at the top of the hill that gets your tube going down the slope and manage the safety seem to be having the best time ever.
Whitetail is an amazing ski resort. The only one problem I have is that there aren t dividers on the express and expert quad chair lifts. One day it was so busy that it was very hard to tell as a single rider which group I was put into for the lift. It turns out that the group I was put into was a party of 4, so I got knocked over by the lift which causes it to stop. That is really my only problem with this resort. Everything else is great.
The most beautiful near the DC area, also the shortest drive. Whitetail has a wide variety of easy slopes so if you're a beginning or wanting to learn, I recommend starting here. But it also has plenty of more difficult slopes which all have different things about them. The night skiing is amazing, it's actually rather peaceful. As for crowds, Whitetail does a decent job handling large amounts of people, as much as any Mid-Atlantic ski resort would. As for the food, it is a bit pricey and some isn't very good, but some is fantastic. There's also a Starbucks. Whitetail is fantastic, highly recommend for kids, teens, adults, and families.
Terrain park was awesome and all trails had good snow coverage. The college deal here is really good and makes this my favorite local mountain
Was to busy for the tubing and my kids didn't get to many rides in the two hours time frame.
Great experience....a little pricey but otherwise great!
The staff were friendly and helpful. The facilities were great for our school trip that I chaperoned. There were nice places to sit if you weren't actually skiing. Although I wouldn't recommend it on a weekend when it's packed, this would be a great place just to visit for the views and atmosphere. My own suggested improvement is the waiver. Take out the part that tries to say you are not responsible for your own negligence. It carries no legal weight and even if it did, everyone should take responsibility for their own negligence and saying that you don't just annoys people.
Had an amazing time, only went tubing myself but it was a blast! Very friendly staff and a very awesome place to go!
Starting this season prices have gone up substantially, to the point that it is no longer financially practically for a family to purchase season passes. The night club card has been eliminated. For a resort that is more often hard packed ice then it is snow, I advise taking the longer drive and visiting one of the many resorts available within a few hours. Generally speaking terrible snow conditions, short seasons, poor/lack of grooming, and a price tag that rivals/surpasses most resorts out West!
We are newbies so didn't know what to expect. Took the kids skiing for the first time and had a very pleasant visit at Whitetail Resort. Excellent instruction with a positive attitude. We got there at 8am and got through the line in plenty of time for our lesson at 9 am, which was good as they were at capacity with longer lines by 11am. Best part about the location is you can go in the morning and be back to DC area by mid-afternoon.
Their facilities and services are as good as usual but snow and slopes conditions are not good yet because of lack of snow and still the warm weather. Hope real winter come soon and all the slopes open soon.
Cool slopes short distance from DC (Lee's than 2 hours)
Starter resort with limited slopes and higher than necessary rates
Close, easy, and SIXTY DEGREES!!! Had a great time boarding...no ice, just soft slush to carve up
Organized, pleasant place overall. But staff outside of the rental shack were unfriendly, the presence of customers annoyed them. Perhaps it was busy-season burnout. Prices were high throughout the resort.
Nice artificial snow, but it's still different from the real thing. Can't complain about that though. Staff was really friendly and offered us help. They even gave us tips on how to snowboard. Definitely a great ski resort and I'm already looking forward for my next visit.
Hit or miss but great for a mid-week excursion. Expect long lines to board the lift - you're lucky if you can get 10 runs with a 4 hour flex pass.
They didn't honor the discount that we were told or group would receive when we called two days prior. The tubing hold were tons of fun though. It was our first time and we had a blast!
4* for convenience and effort. Not 4* for terrain, but that's to be expected. I think I like this hill the best of the Round Top/Liberty/Whiletail trifecta?
Snow condition is a bit too wet. But the terrain park is great
We drove an hour here with our 2 kids to go tubing only to be told they were sold out for over 4 hours. What are we supposed to do for 4 hours while we wait? Why can't your website accept payment? Why can't your website have current times? In this day and age of technology why wouldn't you offer paying for a specific time online? Terrible! We'll continue to go to Massanutten.
Wish there was more trails, but pretty awesome for the most part
Really good place with different levels of slopes. Lessons were good too. I learned to ski in just 1.5 hrs of learning session.
Fun, good slopes, hard/fun blues, confusing price packages. Very cheap for beginners packages
Awesome experience today (March 2nd)! All routes were open and there was a great variety of difficulty with nothing feeling beyond my level for riding (2yrs snowboarding). Conditions were fantastic and didn't have to deal with any ice. I will definitely return next season!
Great lifts. You will get tons of runs. Your legs will burn.
Last day of the season. Several runs were closed. Their staff was still available and eager to help.
Slopes were good for Friday night. A different place to ski than Roundtop. 3 stars for the lodge. We had set up in lodge. Then went skiing. Came back to stuff moved and kid stuff- high school ski bags and carriers on top of the tables. Crazy place.
Great little family mountain, and the best skiing within 90 minutes of DC.
Snow tubing is always so fun, the staff makes sure everyone gets tons of rides down the hill! And the price ain't half bad for what you're getting; an awesome time!
A very clean resort, that cares about the community. They host the Maryland Special Olympics.
A Beautiful Resort with many different Activity's to enjoy your stay! I recommend you come for at least a night but it's a bit pricey!
This is a very nice place. When I visited it was all artificial snow but you couldn't tell the difference. Rental of the equipment was easy and the instructors were really nice. It did feel a bit pricey but it was worth it. Food was average, we couldn't have pizza because they ran out of dough (place wasn't full).
Very nice people willing to help you. Nice restaurants decent food.
Only a few blue lanes and one black in January. The good thing is that it opens until 10.
We were skiing at Whitetail yesterday (1/30/2016) and had a most disappointing experience due to what we felt was a clearly oversold state of operation. The lines were tolerable in the AM, but by lunchtime the lines were two times the length of the fences, or corral, that the resort had standing up to guide the crowd. Beyond the fence the lines became amorphous and chaotic. We spent more than an hour in the lodge waiting until the lines died down, and there we found others in the same situation.
One of the disappointed families that we met indicated they were told that, if they complained prior to 3pm, they would be given passes for another visit. Overall I found our customer experience poor and such customer service policies manipulative and disappointing.
I doubt that we will return.
was good, not as many trails as most ski resorts but good selections for beginners and advanced
This is the best place around. The lift is fast which allows for the most fun on the slopes and the staff is helpful and kind.
Kids loved snow tubing, not overly crowded....fire pits we're a nice touch. Lodge food and drinks are waaaay overpriced, bring your own and you'll be fine.
Spend many happy hours skiing here; surprisingly good for a tiny resort, and only an hour away from DC suburbs. They amazingly manage to produce and keep snow even during the recent warm and un-snowy winters, so we keep going there even though the tickets are getting quite expensive.
While the ski trails are nice I have to say I was incredibly disappointed by the staff's lack of customer service at owning up to their mistakes. When a client if has a specific request, they just blew me off, gave me what they thought I needed and caused my kid to be embarrassed in front of his friends and wasted 30 minutes of my time trying to straighten it out.
On top of that, Whitetail should seriously consider selling the lift tickets by the rental area as well. I ended up hiking back and forth trying to do the right thing (my son's lift ticket was ending at 7:51 pm, while he was taking a 7 pm lesson, which I discovered 10 minutes prior to lesson starting), only to miss my own lesson (last for the day). I am very disappointed. Employees are not knowledgeable, when I asked for the schedule, map of trails they gave me a run around, and I ended up empty handed at the end. I enjoyed skiing, but I wasted about an hour of my time and ruined my mood straightening out situations caused by the lack of attention to clients requests. I was going to get a season pass for next year, but after experience last weekend I don't think so.
I went snowboarding there for my first time and had a blast.
Mountain is wonderful, great scenery. But the costs are not friendly
Great day of skiing since it was cold for once. They had been making a ton of snow. The food at the cafeteria was ok. It got crazy crowded in the afternoon.
Not a bad mountain to snowboard on. No close lodging is a down side but it makes for a great day trip spot
Nice but takes a while to get down the hill, long lines!
Lots if beautiful places to see around and very relaxing in the off season
My husband works here great place to ski and golf food is expensive so are drinks but to be expected in this atomsphere
Its a really great ski resort and I've gotten two medals from racing here here's a picture of the wildlife and the mountain.
Def say great time to go is mid week very few people and allowed quicker access of the lifts. And For the weather conditions this winter have been all over the place they really keeped up with their base snow which a as great, allowing skiers and snowboarders to have fun for as long as possible. Great beginner slopes and the intermediate slopes show great promise. Did but feet chance to see the advanced slopes but from looking at them from the gathering area they are what you would like if you can handle the advanced slopes. Also the tubbing area set on the other side is great and look like a lot of fun. Everyone working there have great attitudes. Including the crew in the first-aid station. The cafe and restraints are a great verity of chooses for your dining pleasure. Offering of lessons thought the day is amazing and the ability to teach one to ski and or snowboard is great. All I can say is loved it and can't wait to get back there. They also have logging if want to have a great weekend getaway or awesome skiing in winter.
Keep in mind skiing and or snowboarding is expensive, when don't have your own equipment. They offer on-site rentals for both sports. And if you have your own equipment the lift passes are average cost.
What a great Mountain not far from the DC area. They have lights on the whole mountain and stay open till 10 is very nice feature. Perfect place for a quick ski trip without airfare or hotel accommodations needed
Good quick getaway for a day of skiing with the family.
We had a really nice time and covered more than 20 trips of snow tubing in 2 hours
Nothing close comes close, except now they own liberty.
It is more than $19 for a cheeseburger with saggy bread and fries, gourmet pricing for trashy food. Unfortunately, we live in the mid Atlantic area who have to endure the crowd (45 min wait at the lift), the poor snow condition and rude service people in the Whitetail.
Great, helpful, friendly staff. Very knowledgeable instructors. Had a great time here.
I had the pleasure of working with my fiance John Kovach and met his fellow coworkers. I had such a blast and look forward to going back again.
Friendly and organized, and well... really expensive during kids break. Without any deals, a family of four can expect to pay near 500 for one day with rent.
Snow quality depends on the temperature as everywhere.
They also have nice firepits and complementary ski racks with attendant if you want to stay by the pits and not leave your skis unattended.
1 hr 40 mins drive from Fairfax County, Virginia, about same for Laurel, MD.
It was a great place to take the family for tubing snow boarding and
Good place to ski. Beginners lessons were good. Trainers were very helpful. Only downside... Not all employees knows the rules I guess. I was miss lead twice which costed me and my family around 1.5 hours of our fun time.
We come to Whitetails every year, well, from DC area, this is one of the closest ski places for a day trip. But too many people and too many beginners. During peak time, the line is getting way too long... this year, not much snow, so the trail condition is not that good, icy, and dangerous! I have to say, the facility itself is good, bathroom pretty clean, food is decent, just too many people... and I fell a couple times boarding the lift, all because someone else doesn't know how to board and shovel me down, terrible!
Over priced ($77/8hr) and no military discount. Not enough snow, I can see dirt in January. Parking lot is on a hill and far away from check in.
Love this place. Very well run and super close to DC.
Best ski/snowboard resort within reasonable driving distance of my home.
I have skied at whitetail for 2 years now and out of whitetail, ski liberty, and round top whitetail is the best and round top is the worst. Whitetail is the steepest out of a 3 so if your a beginner I would recommend going to the other 2 first. I gave this only a 4 because in America there is better choices but I still really like whitetail. Lines are smaller in the morning and a late in the night. Also there food is okay, not the best but taste better than ski liberty. (I recommend the chicken nuggets.)
ALSO THE SUNSET THERE IS BEAUTIFUL AT THE TOP OF THE MOUNTAIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I WOULD RECOMMEND GOING TO WHITETAIL TO A FRIEND.
All the trails leads to one place so then you always come down to a central location. The employees are very helpful and happy to help. There is plenty of service from phone carriers, unlike other mountain resorts.
We went snow tubing with the kids. It was fun for the older kids, age 6 and 8, but the 2-4yo area was barely existent. There was a tiny hill and no great place to walk up to take the toddler down. Sometimes big kids came down that area or down the side where I assume we were supposed to walk up.
We probably won't be back until the toddler is 5 because we don't like leaving one kid/parent at home and not having a good toddler zone (indoors or out) makes it difficult to swap off with the older kids.
