Had the possibility to try twice in a day being engaged in a business meeting at the Shangri La hotel. As Italian native and resident, I could state that food was really tasty as at home high quality restaurant. Quite by coincidence, several of my birthday treats this year turned out to be Italian fare at Italian restaurants in swish hotels.

We dined at Whitegrass Restaurant on Friday 4 September 2020 and it was fantastic. From the moment we walked in the door the service, the atmosphere and the food were excellent. Vincent (the General Manager) was knowledgeable and passionate about the food and happy to answer any questions. We were taken on a culinary journey and introduced to new taste sensations all of which exceeded our expectations. Definitely recommend this restaurant to anyone who enjoys their food and is looking to try something new.

Outstanding Japanese restaurant in Chimes. We went there as a romantic dinner for me and my wife. The restaurant offer a 5 or 8 course menu. You can do wine pairing as well. The chef started only a few month back and he came to our table to introduce himself. What a lovely move. He explained us some of the dishes heritage. The food quality was brilliant, the texture, colour and taste combination was really well executed. The presentation of the dishes as you can see in the pictures was great too. Really there was nothing to complain about. We felt welcome and well taken care of the whole time. Bravo for a wonderful experience. On the way out we were presented with a small take away cake for each of us. Again a great suprise and the next day when we had the cake for coffee it reminded us of a perfect night out. Please understand that this service comes at a price.

Food was delicious and creative. The plating was also very nicely done. Everything was perfect except wine pairing. Both my boyfriend and I had it, and each time we only got a tiny tiny little bit of alcohol and it didn t go very well with the food. Maybe Bc we are not a big fan of sake. We paid around 500 ish with the entertainer deal. Didn t feel that good about it after this whole experience. However they gave us walnut bread to take home! It s very very good!

Great ambience and service. Went here to celebrate birthday and you can placed special request to have a written birthday note on the dessert plate. Tried the vegeterian gastronomic menu and it was scrumptious. The highlight of the course was the bamboo shoot with generous truffle shavings.

Great experience. Excellent food presentation, attention to details but could improve in the speed of serving dishes. We came for 2h meal but ended up staying for full 3 hours, hence 4.5 out of 5 :) It was our first time at Whitegrass but we have been to multiple restaurants in Singapore in a similar price range or with a Michelin star so can compare. Overall environment is good: peaceful but cheerful. This is partially thanks to a welcoming staff and attentive service but also thanks to a good design. If was I to compare it with other restaurants in Singapore at the same price range, Whitegrass did well to create an environment. They did miss music though, especially when it got crowded. Menu - decent selection of foods. We did like the availability of non-alcoholic drinks priced at SGD16. Simple but well made. Good attention to aesthetics - food was not only nicely presented but also tasted great. Looks at those little crabs waving - starters were perhaps the best of all we tried. I do note that medium rare steak was rather tough to chew, I was expecting more of a melting in my mouth piece of meat. Speed - when booked we were informed that reservation is for 2 hours which is fine for a 5-course dinner given there are starters in the beginning. But it took full 3 hours and I eventually had to chase staff a little bit given that there was only 1 snack between 2nd and 3rd dish to entertain us. We waited for almost 30min after the second dish to get the main 3rd dish so I got already hungry and my wife got rather full / done with the dinner by the time we actually got it. This spoilt the whole experience a bit. For reference, we have had a dinner for 3 hours before but that included 8+ dishes, served every ~15 minutes so you don't notice how fast the time passes by.

Came here to celebrate my husband's birthday. Had the 8 course meal - the cooking has a bit of an Asian slant & I liked several courses (duck, iberico pork, DESSERT). In my opinion, these courses were well worth the money - the flavours went well together and the textures were surprising and appealing. You won't taste the same food elsewhere. The service was also good. I can appreciate why they received one Michelin star.

Took then 8 course. The food is simply amazing. Modern French Japanese. Beautifully crafted and very delicious. It's definitely worth the visit. The service staff have been top notch and the head chef took his time to meet each customer personally, which was a nice touch.

This is the kind of place I want to give 5 stars to, but in good conscience just cannot. Service was impeccable. The decor and environs are absolutely beautiful. We had the 8 course dinner, one regular and one vegetarian. The vegetarian dinner simply wasn't as inspired as it could be. The regular discovery meal was good, but not great. In particular, the beef course fell flat in terms of flavour. The wine pairings were solid. Pacing was a bit all over the place. Del was a thoroughly enjoyable and entertaining server. Compared to most restaurants, this is a 5 star establishment. Compared to other 1 Michelin star restaurants, it falls just short of being that. Nothing terrible but nothing outstanding either.

A fantastic Japanese French restaurant bringing the best of the 2 countries cusine. The manager will take care of you all along, sharing stories about the wines, the Armagnac, the Cognac... The food is definitely a must try. $138 for Degustation Dinner Menu is reasonable given the quality and freshness of the ingredients. The service is friendly. If you get lucky you will get seated in the main room that the nicer one. If you like spiritis such as rum, Armagnac, ask the manager for the non listed ones.

We took the 5 course dinner, and we were initially worried if it would be enough. Please be assured its more than enough! Every dish was well executed, well paced, extremely tasty. the bread and financiers were amazing. Chef took the time to bake only when it's required. Comes to u crispy, fluffy, hot. Hosts were also very engaging without constantly lingering which was great. Beautiful interior too. More people should totally visit, its worth it!

First time fine dining experience, it is quite wow for me, with all the details in the delicacies. From the rye bread with iberico pork lard, fried salted egg baby crab, appetizers, duck with kanten noodle (love this so much!!!), slow roasted iberico pork, angus steak and the very lovely chocolate dessert. Everything was prepared very precise and it is delicious! But my most favorite was the beef steak, it was crusted with nuts and grains and it was cook perfectly as what I request. The flavour took me by surprise. My most compliment to the awesome chef. There are these snacks in between, the crispy rice and the lime marshmellow at the end, as well as the fortune cookies everything just adding to the wow experience overall. Very satisfying for a first time fine dining for me.

Service at Whitegrass is superb. I felt very welcome and thoroughly enjoyed myself there on my birthday. The 5 course menu we ordered was innovative and playful. Some of the dishes featured Asian flavors and influences, which I thought was well done. My favorite has to be the pork neck (yin and yang). Least favorite was the fish with geoduck and asparagus because although the slight bitterness of the sake went well with the geoduck, i thought it overwhelmed the fish.

Excellent food and fantastic service. Had the 3 course set lunch and it was good. The food was tastily done with some unique stuff. The server explained the food well and very friendly and helpful. Overall the place has a nice ambience for a nice relaxing meal unlike some other fine dining establishment where you feel serious and stuffy.

Lovely place in Chijmes, every dish was impressive. Highlight was the breads they gave at the start and in the middle - one of the best bread baskets I ve had . Service team was friendly. Would love to return!

One of the best fine dining restaurants we've been to. We tried the five course menu and each dish was better than the last. I have to mention the wonderful service by Amelio(sorry if I misspelt it) as well. Unfortunately this place is closing down soon but I highly recommend visiting before 23rd December and tryt the food if you can. This place has a Michelin star and I can see why.

This is a restaurant that wishes to be in the league of fine dining but does not have the resolve in committed resources such as quality of ingredients. It is a pity because Chef Yamashita is talented and puts in much effort. If the Chef can have better quality ingredients, he would be able to showcase his talent. Chef's bread is exceptional though. The wine list is weak. There is strong effort by the sommelier to stand out with uncommon or organic wine, however, this requires far more knowledge and to be more gifted than the sommelier currently has. Five stars for friendliness and service. A restaurant is of the kitchen and the service, it is of talent, willingness and support. The first comes from having the right team and presently the Chef has it but he cannot make a restaurant exceptional on his own. Willingness is strong and so friendliness and service prevails. The last needs to come from the owner, including committing more financial resources. It is not bad but it is not there yet. It is a good attempt to be in the league of fine dining but someone has to understand what is missing and lead the catch up. Perhaps check out the other fine dining restaurants in Singapore and see what they are make of. By the way, I took the 8 course

Came here to celebrate my birthday with friends and it was a wonderful experience. The food and service was very good and I can see why the restaurant was awarded its one Michelin star this year. Modern Australian cuisine with a mix of Asian flavors and ingredients. My favourite dish was the Angus beef which was cooked to perfection.

Excellent ambience and cuisine. Would definitely recommend this to anyone who is looking for a special venue. I had the pleasure of tasting their special birthday menu which was divine. Each dish was served within perfect time sequence and was thoroughly explained by the staff. The staff came across as friendly yet professional. The meal itself was nothing short of excellent and it was refreshing to see the use of ingredients in unconventional ways such as slow roasted beetroot disguised as thinly sliced crispy shards delicately placed on the plate. The restaurant is nestled in amongst the buildings of CHIJMES so it may be a little tricky to find but it is brilliantly furnished out in luxe decor which adds to the experience.

An absolute treat. Visited this restaurant a few weeks ago with a friend and was completely floored by both the service and quality of the food. Our server was definitely well versed with the contents of our dish and we absorbed a pretty good history prior to savouring each dish. I will definitely return to Whitegrass. Keep up the amazing standards. :)

Elegant restaurant inside the historic Chijmes. A fine dining establishment with attentive service that sometimes seem awkward, but never uncomfortable. The food however is exquisite. Fun fresh and assertive flavors paired with precise execution.

Not a fan of fusion, but this is one to try. Each dish was a unique experience, the taste and texture, down to the presentation, all carefully thought through. The focaccia and sesame bread was definitely one of the most memorable highlight, soft and fluffy on the inside, and still piping hot when you bite into it. Service staff were great and knew their products well, good variety of wine list is a plus.

Decided to come here to try the food before it closes for good on 22 Dec 2018. Glad that we did!! We had the 5 course dinner. The dishes here are absolutely delightful - wonderfully executed with a touch of surprise. I enjoyed the interesting flavours and textures in each course. While it's modern Australian cuisine, I was pleasantly surprised to see an oriental twist to some of the courses. Their fusion dishes are done so well and doesn't come across try hard at all unlike some other restaurants out there. They are pretty generous with the amuse bouche too - we had 5 types (I think), plus a basket of fresh warm sourdough with French Echire butter, Australian sea salt and iberico pork lard. I was initially a little shocked by the fairly substantial roll of pure lard, but later realised how well it goes with the warm bread. I do not recommend you to eat the lard on its own though hahaha. I tried that and I felt so guilty and sinful. I love every dish, but if I had to pick favourites, I'll pick the Sri Lankan mud crab with green chilli ponzu, and the slow roasted pork jowl covered with scallop cheong fun. LOVE!!

In a word, disappointed. The food was nice, but not spectacular. But what really let things down is the service. We ordered the five course set lunch with wine pairings. First course came, but no wine pairing. Just before the second course, the waiter came to give us glasses for the wine pairing. I asked 'weren't we supposed to receive a wine pairing with the first course?' and he said yes. No apology for forgetting - just 'yes' and ready to pour the wine for course two. So I said 'never mind, we will just order a bottle then' - not wanting to pay $140 per person for a wine pairing on a five course meal when we had already missed a course. He then said 'I will go ask the chef.' Huh? He never returned. I had to ask again 10 minutes later to see the wine list. Then waited another ten minutes for another waiter to come take the wine order. Mistakes happen - no worries, that is fine. But no apology for the oversight? No attempt to make it right? Not what you expect from a Michelin star restaurant where you drop $300+ per person. We love fine dining restaurants - but really wish we had chosen somewhere else for my husband's birthday lunch today. Not worth the price point - save your money and go to Odette. Far superior in food and service quality, not to mention ambience - and comparable in price.

way below service expectations with the price point. not french not japanese. seems to be simple western food with some kind of plating but really not fine dining. bread crust is too oily and staff says it s all naturally when it s clearly impossible to get that oily crust without additional oil. service staff in black suit jacket is always in a rush and he seems to be even impatient which makes the experience uncomfortable. appreciate the birthday note on dessert but the overall food and experience was regretful.

Thoroughly enjoyed the meal here. The service was very friendly but could definitely be more seamless for a better dining experience. Each dish was well thought out and made with quality ingredients. Their pastries and bread were freshly baked which was a special touch cause nothing beats freshly baked bread with bordier butter :) Compliments to the chef. Overall a nice dining experience

French Japonais cuisine at its best . The 34yr old Japanese chef spent a few years in Paris and spent weekends working at a boulangerie , when not at the French restaurant ; which accounts for his outstanding mastery of brioche, sesame More

Degustation, wine pairings. While waiting for the meal, overheard the waiter say to a customer it was good to see them again so soon- on another, the waiter and clientele joked jovially, all of which really set the tone for our meal. My word- the food was breathtaking- the pictures should do the talking. Supremely put together, sublimely balanced. While the cuisine identifies as Australian, that understates the subtley of the delicate interplay between East and West. The food was luxuriously smooth and soft, from the pork soup covered in a textured scallop pancake, freshwater crab amuse bouche to the amazing duck. Every base joyously covered. Truly sublime, will be returning soon. Singapore, you've done it again.

We had the 5 course and the food was excellent although, dessert could have been much much better both in flavor and presentation...overall, enjoyed the mix of different but familiar Asian flavors in a modern presentation. Would give decoration and service 4 stars. My chair was stained (gross) and food explanation felt forced and awkwardly timed (don t stand behind a person who is talking to wait for them to stop Bc they can t see you!). Will give the place 5 stars overall for the food.

The restaurant recently re-opened with a new crew. The Japanese chef has given the menu a Japanese-French twist. The food was extremely tasty and delicate and beautifully served. Good value for money. Atmosphere is unchanged. The service team is great but still needs a bit of time to optimally align. We'll definitely come back! It was a quiet night at Whitegrass when we had dinner. Presumably due to fact that it had closed late 2018 and only recently reopened with a new Japanese chef with a strong background cooking French food. The combination and experience was most delicious and enjoyable. Table service was very pleasant with a young lady who explained what was being served. Reservations are held with a credit card booking to the value of $150 per diner as the restaurant may have experienced last minute cancellations in the past. Still I find this rather steep and the restaurant should work towards a more congenial policy that recognises the importance of a diner and the high quality output of the chef. Congratulations to the chef and his team for providing us with an outstanding dinner.

The new version of Whitegrass is helmed by a young Japanese Chef who does exquisite French cuisine with strong Japanese fundamentals. The focus on the natural taste of good quality ingredients is apparent. Some of the dishes also exhibited culinary creativity, such as the maple duck. A wonderful combination of orange bitters, maple glaze and perfectly done duck, this was an absolute delight and perhaps the best duck dish I ve had so far. The Botan Ebi dish, sesame bread and kinmedai (poisson) were other exceptional highlights. Other dishes exhibited the fun side of the Chef, such as the vegetable terrine which was reminiscent of Megumi s version in Shokugeki No Soma (food wars). Service was excellent though the restaurant seemed short handed at times when we came on a sat night. Still, the new whitegrass still provides a wonderful, exquisite gastronomic experience and is one of the best fine-dining restaurants in Singapore to delight your tastebuds. For reference, we got the gastronomia course for dinner and service took approx 3h. Highly recommended.

My wife and I came here for our anniversary looking for a fresh and interesting dining experience, and we were not disappointed. Service was great, and the food superb. We particularly enjoyed the murata gyu in vin rouge, which came with a little wrap on the side inspired by Peking duck; the Spanish mackerel; and the Mont d'Or cheese 'ice cream' dessert. The bread - baked fresh for every service - also deserve a special mention. Many thanks to Chef Takuya and sous chef Kohei for the innovative menu, and Vincent and Wendy for their hospitality front of house! We will be back again.

Australian Chef but very Creative to present the food with blending of local and western taste using Japanese ingredients . Food was great and do Tey their discovery menu that you can have their signature highlight. Ambience is perfect located at Chijmes , used to be a convent monestary . Romantic and perfect for dating or large event using their specia room and the hall. Service was great and deserved a one star Michelin! Do book early!
