A visit here was the highlight of our recent trip to the area. The building transported us to the old world and the stained glass windows were a delightful surprise. This is what the Celts would call a"thin space" where we become closer to God's presence. Allow time to take the tour with excellent guides. I've only seen this place on television during state funerals it will surpass all expectations.

Just an FYI they do not allow dogs in the cathedral. You may walk your dog on the grounds. They have benches everywhere and sidewalks.
The time we went they had an art class out on the lawn.

I visited this cathedral for the Thanksgiving morning service, which was nice because I was free to walk around afterwards and absorb everything without much of a crowd. Incredible history and splendor and details in every corner.

I had never been to this cathedral before. It was amazing. I lived in DC several years ago and never visited. Because of the meetup group DMV Urban hikes organized by Vidya I was able to go there. I thank The DMV urban hikes for introducing us to visit this cathedral.

The Cathedral of St. Paul and St. Peter, better known as the National Cathedral, is one of the most beautiful buildings in Washington DC, it is not close to the usual tourist places, but it is worth visiting. Its elegant neo-Gothic style, its wonderful stained glass windows and impressive proportions (the sixth largest in the world) make it a very peculiar construction within the architectural and artistic ensemble of the city

Beautiful, a great place to pray. The bell towers offer stunning views of the city, and the windows color the space in various tones. The history of the building is cool. I've never done one of the offered tours, but very much want to.

Stunning architecture combined with world class sacred arts of stained glass, painting, and sculpture. Services are welcoming for all faiths. The music for services ranges from classical to blusie traditional jazz. It's a first class experience.

A humongous, beautiful place of worship that is full of history and stories everywhere you look. The tour will give a glimpse of what is there but I'm sure you could tour it many times and learn something new each time.

Photo taken at the Bush funeral. If you have a chance to go to this once in your life, you really should. There are all sorts of tours offered through their website. There are little hidden gems that you may not know about, including a beautiful garden and a coffee and tea shop on the premises. It's absolutely stunning with tons of concerts throughout the year. A must-see in DC.

America doesn't have the wealth of cathedrals that the old world does. This one helps even the balance. Massive, yet light and soaring. Being inside helps lift your spirits up towards something, whatever you believe that something is.

The Washington National Cathedral is an incredible space. It is filled with reverence and one cannot help but visited with aw. The facility itself is massive and the Grand and speaks to an arrow when people still cared and invested in the construction of churches and places of worship. It is simply magnificent. The facility is protected by the police who are an excellent group of people. Very intelligent and very professional. The only negative about visiting is the lack of parking in the area. Parking can be purchased in the underground garage, or you can park a ways away and walk.

My family and I came for a service and a chorus recital and we were amazed by the charisma and sense of inclusion we experience from everybody. For a few moments we forgot how divided the world is behind those doors. This place is in my list of favorite places to find peace.

This is a wonderful place, probably my favorite haunt in DC. I was actually able to catch an evening service in basement of cathedral, which was great, since the liturgy basically negated any liberal theology - and I didn't think I was going to be able to make church that day, until God provided this opportunity unexpectedly.

The best views are below. The National Cathedral holds its own with Saint John Divine in New York and Notre Dame in Paris. Make sure to tour the near secret chapels and labyrinth like halls in the lower levels.

National Cathedral is a beautiful, serene setting whether you enjoy the grand architecture or the peaceful Bishops Garden. We did both and were not disappointed. The admission fee was pretty spendy even with the military and senior discount but in the end it was worth it to see inside. We spent some time sitting on a bench in the garden and just soaking in the peaceful atmosphere.

Such a beautiful, ginormous place. I cannot even begin to explain how big this Cathedral is- you just have to see it for yourself. Pictures simply don't do it justice. Join a free tour inside to learn all about the cathedral (various rooms, stained glass, etc.). Tour guide was very friendly and knowledgeable. You can explore alone also. The ashes of Helen Keller and her teacher are at this location. There are gargoyles (even a darth vader one to learn about). There are also gift shops throughout. Google maps will take you to the Cathedral, but you may have to walk around to find the entrance.

Why is it necessary to charge admission to a church??? One can visit churches/cathedrals all over Europe without paying admission fees! I believe the powers that be have lost their way and purpose for existing.

Loved the stained glass on the walls and how the sun light came inside the place. The old church is beautiful inside and out. Lots of different places inside to see. Great historical place to visit.

Haven't been in a while. They now charge $12.00 per person to visit the cathedral. So, you can only see the outside if you are not willing to pay the price. Of course it is beautiful, and it is worth the price to go in.
