Pretty cool art! Half of it isn't van Gogh's and it's all a bit spread out and hard to find. However, I learned a lot! A huge collection! You get in free with the I Amsterdam card, but you need to reserve a time so do that in advance. Honestly my favorite part was the gift shop, which is kind of a bummer. Lots of amazing art. No photos allowed. What I have here is what I took before I was told no photos.

Amazing work done by the designers of this museum. Besides the painting, I loved listening to his letters through the retro headphones. Quite crowded even at 10 am, but there is enough space to view all pieces nicely. Great shop full of books, cards and memories.

Arrived here just before Christmas 2019, was advised to pre book tickets to avoid the queuing inside. We were also advised to get the audio companion which made the experience so much better.

The museum itself as a building is beautiful, great layout and clean. The large collection of painting here are incredible combined with the audio description which added a back story to each painting itself made the whole experience that much better.

The museum does not disappoint however the self guided tours with the audio headsets dampen the experience. I highly recommend going at a time when it is not so busy to enjoy it to the fullest. That being said it offers the single largest collection of Van Gogh paintings and remains unforgettable.

All art fans should visit this museum. It walks you through Vincent Van Gogh's life and shows you the art he made along the way. It does get busy in the afternoon, go early to skip the crowds. His work is classic. If only he got to see the success of his art.

This Museum will inspire you by showing you Van Gogh's art and life. Book the audio guide as well and dive into a wonderful experience. What an extraordinary artist! I highly recommend this amazing Museum to anyone who visits Amsterdam. May you see reality through a different and more colorful lense after visiting this Museum :)

This is the most popular Museum in all of Amsterdam. It did not have the most famous works such a Starry Night just usually displayed at the Met but it did have the largest selection of works from Van Gogh and various artifacts from the artist.
Is definitely worth a visit.

Amazing experience. If you're not an art expert, getting the audio guide is crucial. Best strategy to visit is to view the temporary exhibits first (highlights) then view all the highlight tour properly. When you're done with the highlights, if you still have energy, go through the rest of it, or sections that caught your eye on the way.

Words are a poor vehicle for this breathtaking museum and it's collected works of VVG. Collection is organized chronologically from his early life to his time in Auvers and his death. No photography is permitted inside exhibition spaces which is refreshing. Collection much easier to view, fewer crowds, layout is more accessible and framing of each painting unique to each piece. I've been to many famous museums and just have to say don't miss this beauty. Great gift shop with lovely selection and fairly okay prices. Staff and docents friendly and helpful. Brochures available in many languages but all staff speak English. I was particularly interested in two paintings not in the collection as I learned and staff took the trouble to locate them for me.

Beautiful gallery housing beautiful art. You can hire a small tablet so you can listen to someone talking about VG work. So many wonderful paintings. I needed more time here than I thought. You have to book your tickets in advance. Everyone should visit, it's really worth it

If you're interested in the work of van Gogh then it's a treat, it's a great space as well. Extremely busy during tourist season even with staggered entry times so getting some 'contemplation time' with the works isnt easy. Cafe is spacious with a good selection.

The art on display was amazing and the life of Van Gogh is spectacular. I feel that the museum would benefit in providing direction throughout the exhibition on which direction to go. I learned all about Van Gogh but it was out of order at times and difficult to follow with all the people.

Wonderful collection of Van Gogh and other artists. Go early in morning if possible. By one pm was very crowded and rooms were stuffy. The audio guide added depth and information to the visit. I spent 4 hours at the museum including having a nice lunch in the cafe. Flat Stanley photographed for school children.

Ofcourse it's an iconic collection. It's one of the two places where I started appreciating art. The painting collection is quite nice and the museum is well organized.
If you have an Amsterdam Pass, then it will be free to visit here BUT book a few weeks in advance.
If you are lucky you may get reservations one day in advance.
There's little chance of getting reservations on the same day during the tourist season.

Great intimate museum with an emphasis on Van Gogh's life's ups and downs. Nice to see the Sunflower Exhibit, with great detail described about each one and where he was in his lift when he painted them. Good description of the preservation process.Letters between his brother Theo were a nice touch.

Beautiful museum, and we were lucky to catch the temporary exhibit of David Hockney's works, which was beautiful and clearly showed Van Gogh's influence on the artist. Some very well known works of Van Gogh's are here (self-portraits, Almond Blossoms and Sunflowers are among the most famous) but not Starry Night. Worth the effort of booking ahead, which is a must! We booked one week before our trip and still had to get tickets through a third party bundled with a cruise (which was very good, in the end, BTW). Still, Van Gogh in Amsterdam? Unmissable.

An amazing collection of original Van Gogh works. And works of his examples as well as painters who were influenced by him. The museum tells you Van Gogh's life story. The time slot system is understandable considering the size of the rooms but regrettably it messed up the planning of our trip a bit.

Some tips for visitors:
- the audioguide costs 5 euro extra but proved to be a real added value information wise.
- viewing the full collection with audioguide requires 3hours at least. The highlights tour with audioguide takes 1h30.
- book your tickets beforehand so you are sure that you can stick to your planning. We didn't do that and because of that could only buy tickets to enter the museum in the last 2 hour timeslot before it closes. The guys after us got the last tickets, meaning they sold out before noon.
- Some pieces might be temporarily exchanged with other musea at the time of your visit, if you go to see a specific painting, then it's best to inform whether it is actually there at the time of your visit.

Although I didn t go in, book tickets in advance!!!!! Especially in the high season. We were unable to get in unfortunately, as we went in the summer. I ve heard great things about the museum, so which I got to go.

Could not get tickets for the day at the ticket desk, instead had to order them online from my mobile, which I find an unnecessary hassle. We didn't have to queue for long, but the museum was way too crowded to be able to enjoy the artworks. Because I could not take my time to enjoy the art, I left early. Would not go again!

Very manageable museum. Spent about an hour seeing all the highlights. They have audio guides which is nice, but given the artist's history I found it off they used the image of an ear to indicate which number to play!

Even if you re not an art nut you should enjoy the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam. The audio guide makes it very easy to learn more about Van Gogh s relatively short life.

See one of the 5 Sunflower paintings he did.

View many more of his paintings as well as a few by other artists.

You can book online for a guaranteed entry time, but today - although during the heavy vacation season - there were no lines and tickets seemed to be readily available.

Must go! Order tickets online. Quick to enter very efficient staff, even though the museum is super busy with long lines of visitors. Must use the audio tour set for the best experience. Learn and get insight into the awesome work and personal life of Van Gogh. Loved this museum experience. There is a museum shop and live talks by a docent available during your time at the museum. Can't explain how truly wonderful it is to see so many authentic Van Gogh works on 3 levels at this museum.

The museum is amazing as well as the full support infrastructure - audio guides, souvenirs, bathrooms, cloakroom. Nonetheless, there is something that really needs improvement: when getting to the door, if you ask where you can buy tickets they always say that they can only be bought online - which is not true. The site to buy the tickets is not the most user friendly and has very limited options in terms of payment methods. In the outside souvenir shop (closer to Rijksmuseum) you can buy tickets to Van Gogh's.

Excellent museum! Well designed layout from the earliest parts of his life to his death. As you climb the floors you see the evolution of his art along with his contemporary peers. If you are in Amsterdam, this is a must see.

A really great place, full of history. Audioguides available to tour the museum by yourself and a pretty rich souvenir shop at the end of the tour. Suggestion: pick the tickets for the day after so youl'll have less queue to wait :)

Wow...this is a MUST visit! Ensure that you book tickets in advance. Join a guided tour or buy the fox to be able to appreciate it all. You can buy a Van Gogh framed print and have it shipped to your home. Excellent and reliable service. I will visit again again!

Beautifully organized museum. Saw Van Gogh's paintings that I've never heard and seen before. Taking a guided or audio tour is a must. Gives you a better understanding of his method and styles of painting. Fell in love with Van Gogh all the more - his paintings and the man behind them.

Van Gogh's life story is moving, a man who was cut down in his prime by mental illness. Looking at some of his brilliant work, one can only imagine what this genius would have done in the absence of demons.

Wonderful experience, even if a bit busy, this is a great way to be introduced to the work of Van Gogh. You need to book a time, there are cloakroom facilities, it's well organised and plenty of staff around to answer questions, they are more enthusiastic than other museums I found. You need to take your time. There is an introduction video which you should see first.

One of the most influential places I have ever visited in my life. This museum is beautiful beyond words. Seeing the many amazing works of Van Gogh in person opened my eyes to a whole new level of beauty in art. If you are in Amsterdam this is a must see!

One of the best museums dedicated to one artist. The flow of the art works well and the audio-guide is well worth it and highly recommended. Make sure you order your tickets at least weeks - though these days maybe months - ahead of your trip.

It's a nice museum with lots of amazing paintings and exhibitions, you should definitely visit it if you're in Amsterdam, however, it's very busy and you'll need to book tickets. Some of the employees at the cloakroom are pretty rude.

We bought our tickets online from the museum before our trip. It was our first day - arriving in Amsterdam without sleep at 8:00 this morning. We arrived for our scheduled 4:00 PM time slot at the museum and were quickly ushered inside. The museum is beautifully laid out - starting at the lower floor and working our way up to the third floor. Each floor covers a time period of Van Gogh s life. Each area has the history written out on display to cover each section - beautifully done. A lovely first day in Amsterdam.

Nice and interactive. Van Gogh its such a character. Colors and technique are very very expressive, even at first sight. Dont miss, although you are not a museum person, you are gonna like (or love) it.

Very cool museum, loved to see how Van Gogh s work progressed from his earlier years to his later years; there was a large focus on how his mental deterioration affected the style of his artwork. The pieces a wonderful to observe.

This is an amazing museum. The displays are (as of August 2019) arranged chronologically starting on the first floor and years increasing as you go up floors. The audio tour was a neat addition and I enjoyed it even though I normally don't bother.

If you love art, especially Van Gogh, then check out this museum. Though considering how iconic it is I doubt you need me to tell you that!

The museum is laid out well. The art is displayed by the different periods in Van Gogh's life. Which includes the time when he became manic. They have information about his family and artist friends. A large section of the museum is dedicated to Vincent's relationships with his brother. Worth a visit.

World class museum, really well done exhibit and the multimedia tour is great. Explains Van Gogh s progression as an artist pretty well.

I wasn t as much of a fan of the current Hockney exhibit, not a must-go for me but a nice addition. Worth it just for the permanent exhibit.

It is pretty busy, but no photos are allowed which makes it a pleasant experience despite the crowds.

Some tickets are usually available the night before (I got some at 9pm the night before we went).

We were there for about an hour, quickly going through temporary exhibition and rest of the floors.
You have to leave your backpack after the entrance but it's free of charge.
There is also help for the blind or shortsighted people.

This place is awesome. I particularly like this display that allows blind or limited vision people to experience one of the world's most famous paintings. People never cease to amaze me with their creativity. Well done! And, of course, my little boy sketching his own van Gogh. That's priceless.

No stars. The queue for leaving bags at the cloakroom (which was MANDATORY) was so long, we gave up. Didn't go in. No refund. Went instead to the neighbouring museum of modern art and design ...which was good.
