I came here without knowing that Starry Night is in New York OMG yes I'm that not educated smh. But some of other famous paintings are here, which is really good!

Audio explanation cost 3 but worthy. I went here even 2 times lol, my first time was not even enough time for me to enjoy everything. I spent whole afternoon til it was almost closed in 1st floor and half 2nd floor.

Merch shop quite okay, i bought several posters, somehow i kinda wish they sell starry night merch eventho the painting itself somewhat far in the other side of the world, sad

An excellent museum if you are hugely interested in van Gogh himself, which, personally, am not. Friends who are absolutely loved this museum. The museum is very specialised, with a lot of information. Each floor tells a different part of van Gogh's life, walking you through his journey until his death. Audio guide available for 5. You can do the highlights in 45minutes, or spend more time if wanted. The exhibitions are well worth checking out too. Best to book in advance as the queue for tickets on the door can be quite long. Backpacks won't be allowed into the museum itself (small handbags are ok), but a cloakroom is provided for bags and coats, free of cost.

I enjoyed the progression and the layout of the museum. The lighting could definitely use improvement as it caused a glare on many of the paintings and it was hard to see the details without standing at an awkward angle.

The museum has a good layout and flow; you can see the progression of Van Gogh's work easily. There are other artists' works on display as well like Gaughin and Rodin. Many of Van Gogh's letters are on display. There are a few kid interactive stations, but not many. If you buy tickets online, the available times may be different than the available times at the kiosks at the museum. I believe they do this to help serve those who are already at the museum. Photos are not allowed. They have very nice museum shops throughout (3 of them) and there is a cafe located in the museum with a decent selection of food.

Very well curated with an unbelievable amount of information provided without being overwhelming. I recommend the audio tour which is very well done and helps to give a depth of understanding, even if you are familiar with his work you will learn something new.

My only gripe was that they do not accept cash for admission. Must use card or buy tickets ahead of time. I was fortunate enough to find someone outside who purchased my ticket for me. Thank you kind stranger! The museum was absolutely amazing though. How a collection of priceless works of art could receive less than 5 stars is beyond me. Definitely the highlight of my trip!!!

The idea of only offering online tickets is pretty stupid but apart from that the exhibit Van Gogh & Japan was very informative. The different stages of Van Gogh's life as an artist are spread out over 4 floors and there are several gift shops.

Great collection and incredible architecture. Staff is kind of rude and I don't get why I couldn't take photos even without flash, it sounds like not a matter of preserving the painting but rather "we got the painting and it's ours so don't you dare take photos". Still took photos and posting them here tho

I had seen starry night at another museum, I was impressed by the feeling that painting evoked on me. But, once I came to this museum, Van Gogh became my favorite painter of all times, for days I could not stop daydream (and night dream) about those Sunflowers, Skylines, Treetrunks, Portraits, Houses and colors.

Very well designed museum but the collection seems to be put in second place. Lots of very large info displays and works from other artists take up a lot of space. But well worth the visit.

It was an amazing experience. This museum had all the famous paintings of Van Gogh from the beginning of his life. We paid 19 euros for a ticket. You can buy them online or at the counter. It's 3 floors in total.

Wonderful!! A really great place to immerse oneself into VanGogh's passion and pains through the paintings. Amazing staff and other facilities, quite sophisticated audio guide. Total cost 18+5 euros to visit the place. Spent 5 hours there myself and not one of them was a waste of time. Highly recommend for everyone from a child to the senior.

The museum itself is interesting, alot of his letters actually tells what happen and how he think at that time.

just a bit lack of info at the entrance for the cloakroom that we are not allow to have backpack in and the queue is long, no signs for check in or check out for cloakroom....the organisation could have been better.

The ticket is time limited for entrance, you must choose a time flame to visit the museum, its quite inconvenience but I could understand they try to do the crowd control.

A pity for The sunflower, it s out for renovation for conservation treat... and will only be back on 22 feb.....

Great museum especially if you're Van Gogh's fan. It has multiple story. On the ground floor, they have big merch store that sells cute Van Gogh's souvenirs and stuff. Upstair, they have library and they also sell books, merch and stuff here.
I bought the ticket online for 19 . Easy and fast.

It was on my list of places to see for many years and finally I ve had a chance to visit being in Amsterdam.
Was booking tickets a few days before the trip but they were sold out for 2 weeks ahead on the official museum website.
Luckily I ve not given up and searched for tickets. Got them from another provider get your guide combined with the 1 hour canal cruise. I m very glad I did that. Museum visit entry is timed but boat trip is available all day until 10pm. Really enjoyed both!!!
I m not an expert but consider myself very familiar with Van Gogh work, I saw many paintings I ve not seen before and museum has great information on the artists life including audio versions of his famous letters.
Spent 3.5 hours there. It s over 4 levels and there are lifts. I thought the cafe was overpriced.

It was such a great experience to see and get to know more about Van Gogh s life. I was so overwhelmed. I absorbed the energy of his art works and I m so inspired.
The only thing that freaking bug me is too many tourists. The museum was a hectic even it s a weekday. The crowds stress me out.

There are no words to describe exactly how moving this museum is. It is amazing to see how large a body of work he had and sad to see that he didn t live long enough to see the influence and impact he would have on the art world. Truly he was a man who saw the world a bit differently. I love his well known works and it was great to be able to see them.

Alongside Van Gogh s work are stories of his life and letters to friends and family. There are also some paintings by those he was influenced by and those he influenced. This is a definite must visit if you are ever near Amsterdam.

The number of pieces that are on display is phenomenal and the flow of the entire exhibit hall is great. Since we were part of a tour group, we got to skip the big line and that was extremely nice too. The gift shop had some unique items, so you could find something for anyone on your shopping list.

Incredible museum if you are around you can't wait to walk in, and once you finish also go and get a gift on the gift shop, so you can finish with the classic foto of you and the Amsterdam logo behind.

We loved this museum, specially when you hear the stories related to each painting.
You need there around 3 hours or maybe more to enjoy everything as we just stayed 2.5 hours and there is a whole floor that we didn't see

A brilliant museum with great curation throughout. You get a really clear understanding of the story of van Gogh, looking at his life, his family, his friends and his illness. All of this is shown through the development of his art work and the letter written to various people. I also really enjoyed the free introduction to van Gogh talk given in the auditorium at various points throughout the day

Great Museam to learn about Van Gogh.
Lots of original paintings from Van Gogh and artists he knew or admired.
The Sun Flower painting is the main attraction.

If you plan to use the Holland Pass (Gold Ticket) at this location for faster entry be advised that you do not get to skip the line. All you get is free admittance, but you need to wait in line like everyone else.

That said, the museum itself is chronological - so you get to see the progression of Van Gogh and his work throughout his life, and as influenced by other painters/works. It also explains a bit of his finances (his brother helped support him) and how his brother in law's wife helped make him famous after he died.

Overall this has been a phenomenal place where I understood paintings done by VG .. his style is completely self-portraits ,nature, real life. He loves to use the yellow colours and most of his paintings have multiple layers of paint on it which makes it look larger than life with a different style and his techniques of colours go ahead and enjoy it's worth a visit with family or alone !!!

If you like works by Van Gogh, I don't, you maybe will like this place. This is totally made up artist, can't even be remotely compared to his great contemporaries. As I find everything he produced to be either lacking of skills or talent, I find this place boring and pathetic. Very poor, cave like lighting in combination with glassed paintings and you cannot really see anything in a way a painting should be evaluated. I gave it a second star for few decent real impressionist/pointalist paintings in this "collection". This place is monetizing on general ignorance. Boring place with good cafeteria.

Come early in the morning and buy your tickets in advance. Overall a great experience to see Van Gogh s life work. One a side note you won t find his famous starry night here, it is kept in the Museum of Modern Art, NYC.

Master strokesman.
Never should be missed
Too costly though.
Few more seats needed as there is good crowd & aching legs

Top Museum in Europe for me! I was very immersed in the works and life of Vincent. This museum is nit too crowded when I visited in October. You should try the audio guide ( 10) if you do not have a tour guide.

Plan on spending at least half a day here. Very beautiful building. Well curated and very informative. We used the self guided audio your. Very helpful. I loved how the exhibits are laid out. Truly enhanced the experience. Go early, as lines get long and the museum becomes very crowded. We purchased tickets in advance and arrived when they opened. A must see/experience. The gift shops are very nice, as is the cafe.

A must go place for art lovers. You should really really arrive early. At 9h there is a line already but it will be less crowded since the number of people inside keeps only increasing. Also go directly to the permanent exposition and leave the less crowded temporaries for later.

Make sure you purchase tickets ahead of your visit and queue up at least 10 mins before your allocated time. My preference would have been to visit the museum at a more quieter day and time to enjoy it more.

So interesting museum, modern furniture and lights. For better experience you should get the multi-language guide, it's more expensive than standard ticket, but it's really what just the doctor ordered.

I have to edit my comments because after visiting the museum, I changed my mind about this place.

So the museum is always crowded, no photos are allowed (bec need to respect art), but the audioguide is very detailed about explaining all the artifacts. At first I was disappointed because initially when I went, I didn t know you need to book/buy tickets online. It s sold out on the spot.

The second visit there was quite mind-blowing. Although I didn t manage to see my favourite painting, The Starry Night from Van Gogh (the original paint is in New York), i get to know more about his life, his inspiration, his thoughts and his struggles. Highly recommended for arts and history lovers.

What can I say, just about the best museum in Amsterdam, highly recommend to booked in online. A wonderful selection of artwork in exhibition, can be crowdy around some of the more known painting.

Great museum, absolutely worth the visit, although some might find it a bit pricey. Van Gogh's art and life is mesmerising. The museum is a bit crowded in the afternoon though, so if you don't want to deal with the crowds, choose another time. Also, quite the queue at the museum store. But it's all worth it, you'll need around three hours to see everything, keep it in mind. Definitely book tickets online at least two days in advance.

Incredible museum about Van Gogh. The audio tour is great and very modern with tons of extra options if you have the time. I learned a lot about Van Gogh that was fascinating.

Tip: Leave your large bags and umbrellas elsewhere, as the queue for the cloak room can be outrageous (30+ min wait the day we were there). And don t leave your umbrella under the stairs...they gather them up and take them away! :)

A really excellently put together Musium. Definitely get the multimedia guide it's 5 and really adds to the story. Don't expect starry night as both are in New York and Paris. But a number of great works are here, including some from artists he influenced
