If you are a fan of Van Gogh, this is a must visit. Most of his iconic works are here along with things you may be less familiar with. Also some work from his contemporaries. Only downside are the crowds. Too many people, too busy. It doesn't seem bre-booking matters much as it never appears that there are limits on how many people are inside

The museum has 3 floors and plenty of paintings, so reserve at least 2 hours if you plan to see every one of them. The multimedia guide is a modern device that contains lots of additional information. The queue to the tickets office is enormous. It does not change during the day. To skip the queue by tickets online or you will spend 2 to 3 hours to get the ticket onsite.

I'm still excited to see the Van Gogh Museum. Love, love, love this museum. The museum gets VERY crowded so make sure you get here as early as possible to avoid as much of those crowds as you can. If you're using an "I Amsterdam" card, entry is included but you do need to book ahead. I don't know how much wiggle room there is in those bookings. The history of Vincent, where he painted, his communications with his brother and fellow artists, and the explanation of his madness is absolutely wonderful. I loved my time here. This is, for me, the number one thing to see when you visit Amsterdam. The gift shop is amazing. So many interesting things to purchase..

My girlfriend bought me the tickets as a Christmas gift. Needless to say it was an amazing trip through the, not so well-known, life of Vincent Van Gogh! Opportunity to see the famous self-portraits, the garden of the lovers, the room etc. Maybe the most thoughtful gift ever!

The exhibits were great! They do a really good job giving context to van Gogh's work so that even people who aren't big art fans will enjoy this museum. All the displays are in Dutch but also have a full English translation alongside them.

The only problem I really had was with the amount of time waiting for the coat-check. If you can, avoid bringing a backpack or umbrella or else you will be required to stand in the pretty ridiculous line to have the coat-check hold on to them.

The Van Gogh Museum was a dream come true! It was like being in my favorite Doctor Who episode where Matt Smith whisks the real Van Gogh away into his tardis and they end up here, admiring his works. It was a very surreal and satisfying experience. The museum is quite large so definitely wear comfortable shoes! I visited in early April and it wasn't too crowded. I would also recommend the gift shop. I bought so many cute knick knacks and had to be dragged away by my boyfriend after much perusing about.

Well organized. Fast entrance despite the queue. Everything accessible also in a crowded Saturday. Very nice paintings and lots of details. Treasure search for children to get closer to art.

Large collection. Very informative. I didn't get the multimedia guide since I've gone to a tour about van Gogh and know already quite a bit. But I guess the guide would be really helpful. Staff were helpful and approachable.

Very nice and interesting but be prepared to face crowds. Although the museum is quite organised tourists aren t. Keep in mind that the most famous artwork are not actually in this museum, they belong to other museums abroad. We still recommend it.

Absolute must see!
If you're an art lover or even just curious about what Van Gogh is all about about, you will easily spend 3 hours here. I got the audio tour and you can leisurely go floor by floor or you can have an group tour guide. I did the leisure tour. They organized it by Van Goghs years in art. The years are written on the wall as you enter the room. You get to see the progression and development of his style over the last 10 years of his life. Which were also the only years he was actively involved in art. Not only that you get a glimpse into his life and his struggles. Loved it! Would go again! Definitely my favorite out of all the art museums I've been too.

Such a great museum! The details are well planned, from a convenient and quick cloak check to well designed sections based on Van Gogh's life. One of my personal favourite of his paintings is the yellow house (Het gele hius). I would highly recommend this museum to any art enthusiastic. The tickets are not very expensive and plus it is a five minute walk from the Rijksmuseum, making it possible for you to cover these two important sites within a day. I would recommend the audio guide, which has detailed description of each of the paintings and plus a program for covering the most important of them as well.
Do go through the bookshop. The offerings are very well suited as gifts for people who are Van Gogh's fans! I got myself cards with Van Gogh's paintings and have received praise from those whom I've given them to.

Of course, I pretty enjoyed when I attended the museum. As Vincent Van Gogh is my role model while I was in high school which is the time I kept painting.
The collections are awesome and the routes, organization in the museum are great, which can let us understanding Van Gogh from the beginning of his painting career to the end. Also we can know about how he painted and who influenced him at different stages.
The last things I really surprised was the event holding at the top floor, which asked you to draw the outline(try to copy how Vincent drew). Not everyone did it, but I think it was a great chance to know how great he was, how marvelous works he made.

Amazing museum. A must-see if if you're in Amsterdam. It was so cool to see famous paintings by Van Gogh that I've seen copies of my whole life. I definitely recommend buying the audio tour for 5, it is worth the money and is very informative.

Very friendly + helpful staff and nice building. We used the Amsterdam City Card for free entrance. The exhibition was quite ok, not uninteresting, but nothing what we would recommend for paying extra (without AC). - But maybe it just depends on ones personal view.

Nice to see and good to know. Not only Van Gogh is represented here. Many famous and not famous authors you can see here. There is a good restaurant here where you can eat and rest. Also you can find a good gift shop inside the museum.

A lifetime experience enjoying Van Gogh's work. The self-portraits, sunflower, lovers, irises, the yellow house, the bedroom, wheatfields with crow, the potato eaters, the sower are all here. Please the starry night is in MoMA NY and not here.

Excellent selection. But be warned, although their website says you can take photos, you can t take photos of the actual paintings or prints. There are just photo areas, a bit like smoking areas in airports.

Great to learn more about Vincent Van Gogh! Take a visit yourself and you'll learn he was actually a bit problematic! Anyway, the staff are very friendly, the gift shop is affordable for some people, and the toilets are clean! Even when it's busy you still get a peak at the classics so I'd say overall it's just what you'd expect from a great museum!

There are some many amazing paintings here, and there is a short story next to each of them. It makes it a very interesting place to sirens whole afternoon. Make sure to bring comfortable shoes!

Easy to find, and the exhibits took us several hours to go through. Great coat/bag check service available and nice multimedia tour option available. Also has a nice cafe/restaurant for a quick bite.

complete and with a small book for children, they stay busy looking for the tasks they need to fill up and at the end they have a suprise.
People of the reception are doing a really good job.
5 floors of history of Van Gogh, is nice to know more about him.

Floor layout and guidance through the exhibition is awful. Sad. Vincent deserves far better. The multimedia rental guide is also not coherent and missing structure. Obviously van Gogh gets not 5 but billion stars! Museum per se not even 1.

Nice museum. Some of Van Gogh s work are on display. It does focus on the life of the painter and showcases paintings of other Neo Impressionists. Excellent book shop and souvenir shop with items by Samsonite. On the second floor, it has a nice, spacious cafe serving breakfast and snacks. Breakfast set costs about 7 for coffee and a pastry. It s got a self service bar with an EPS payment, self service too.

Love this museum! Every visit makes such and inspiring and personal experience! Great and efficient layout, lovely souvenir shop and nice staff, the cantine food is better then in most restaurants and kind and helpful staff.
The only improvement point is they rent almost empty battery audio guides so your audio tour may be interupted unexpectedly. Since there is no way to see the battery status on the gadget, a shout out to the management to make sure this practice is improved, they can simply instruct the staff to put the audioguides on charge every time they are not used or install more durable batteries.

Not a single mention of starry night. I completely understand that they don't have the painting, and somewhat understand why they don't show a recreation. But the fact that there isn't even a single piece of text about his most famous painting is appalling. It would have been nice if that was made abundantly clear, as well as a solid part of the museum being unavailable due to maintenance, should really be communicated before you pay the 19 ticket, which is an additional 9 if you carry luggage with you due to the expensive lockers.
The temporary Millet exhibition luckily saved my trip, as there were beautiful Van Gogh paintings there, the best of the entire museum.
All in all way too expensive, with service and content not living up to the high fee.

I came here for the first time for an evening event (how cool is that, an evening at the museum!) Although I didnt look at the artworks in detail, i can with confidence say that the architecture is amazing and the event I came for was so inspiring. One of the best museums in Amsterdam. Also I got to see the famous sunflowers and the potato eaters, which was fantastic.

Fantastic collection of Van Gogh works, including letters and drawings as well as his paintings. You must book your tickets online, but even in midsummer you can get them on the morning of your visit if you don't mind going late.

Great to finally visit the museum. It was very busy but we booked the tickets online and everything went smoothly. Spent lots of time looking around, taking it all in. Definitely worth it.

Extensive collection of Van Gogh work presented perfectly. This is a visual treat for any art fan, showcasing the work of a true master. Many pieces are not in books or print which means you get to discover new work as you go

Must visit and experience the museum. And do take a guided tour, makes a world of a difference as the guide explains some of the works in great detail. The numerous selfies you will see of Vincent is amazing. Interestingly, our guide told us that Vincent is now often stated as the worlds first "selfie photographer". Interesting !!

Very nice and modern museum. They have many of Van Gogh's masterpieces on display but also show some of the more unattractive parts of both his art and life. The entire tour tells his story in a very romantic way. The audio-tour was okay but a bit wonky and the signs a bit small and unreadable when there is a sea of people infront of them.
Dont try to go in high, theres a guard at the entrance who'll look you in the eyes before letting you enter.

Well worth seeing. Well laid out. A great artist and his development and phases are told with accompanying paintings and drawings. Makes it more interesting. On a practical note, the staff adopt a light touch approach which feels much more friendly. You can buy tickets on line in advance and show your eticket on your phone. Otherwise you join a long, long queue, even in January, to buy tickets from a machine. There are only two machines. By the time you get there, all the timed tickets for now have gone and we had to wait an hour to get in. They're in 15 minute slots. You cannot take backpacks in and the queue for the cloakroom was horrendous. More time wasted. No security to go though which surprised me. I noticed the shop on an upper level closed at 4 but there was no sign to say the shop downstairs was still open for another 55 minutes. People looked disappointed and it was a missed opportunity for the museum. The cafe was lovely and at prices you'd expect at such a prestigious museum. Surprisingly busy for a bitterly cold Saturday in January. I can imagine the summer will be mayhem. Still worth going. Enjoy.
