There supposed to be an event, but it wasn't. Museum staff told as that they know it's advertised on the website but they don't do it so often now and when they do it's in Dutch language, because they want to bring more locals

Better to go in the morning. Not so crowded and in less than three hours you can see everything and read everything carefully
Note: I went on tuesday january 7 2020 at 10am and didn't take the audio guide nor any tour

Van gogh museum definitely takes the cake in honoring such a wonderful artist. Don't take pictures though, they don't play around. Wish there were more videos showcasing movies made in his honor.

Great museum for people interested in arts. Also great for people that aren't that much into art since Van Gogh is such a classic and must see in Amsterdam. No wonder you have to book a time slot. I really enjoyed my visit and also liked the way the coronavirus was treated with care.

Outstanding collection of Van Gogh's artworks. Immersing yourself in the museum helps you to understand the complex personality of the character. Extremely fascinating! The media support is much recommended. Very handy.

Excellent, truly great overview of his works. There are a number of masterpieces like the potato eaters, sunflowers and almond blossoms.

It has also a rotating display of his drawings.

Alongside his works are paintings that influenced Van Gogh and in turn art inspired by him.

Book tickets in advance to avoid queuing.

This is a good museum if you are interested in Van Gogh and art - quite a variety of different styles and priceless paintings to see. On the other hand, if these don't interest you, don't expect to become suddenly interested after visiting the museum. I encountered quite a number of very bored looking people at the museum. The museum tends to be very crowded (prepare to squeeze in if you want a closeup of your favourite painting) and somewhat noisy, not ideal for quiet reflection.

the collection is great, but it s way too expensive, also it s really sad that they only sell the tickets online, on top of that you have got to pay extra to get the audio-guide. The museum should have more inclusive policies, specially for seniors and foreign students that can t afford to pay 20 euros on a ticket.
The gift shop has got overpriced vangogh themed stuff that you should avoid completly.
Structure-wise, the building is modern, accessible and the paintings are really well lit. it s also a shame that you can t take pictures of the paintings, despite that everyone was usong their phones to take pics.

Too crowded... Garderobe takes 2*10 minutes extra during busy hours although staff is nice. Very complete works of Vincent and friends. Audiotour avail. Worth visiting. Take tram 2 or 12 from Central Station.

Beautiful art but far too busy...my son in a wheelchair couldn't see everything due to the amount of people...literally couldn't get the wheelchair through in most parts and it didn't fit in one of the lifts despite being one the museum provided...queued for such a long time to drop off and collect coats. we had to leave early.

This is as awesome as any museum dedicated to a single artist could be. The work organized by period allows the visitor to see the evolution of Van Gogh as an artist. The additional artifacts describing his live puts everything into context. I particularly liked the social networks representing his friends and relatives and how additional pieces (for example, paintings of artists Van Gogh befriended) gives us more about his life and his influences (and who he influenced). In addition, the museum facilities themselves are cool and modern. I really enjoyed every second of my visit.

A must see. The audio guide is crucial to getting a better appreciation of the master's genius. The organization of the works left me wondering, though. The themes don't seem to follow chronology and you'll have to look closely at the works since other painters' pieces are interspersed across the halls.

Kinda stressful. At first the tickets were sold out but then we got some last minute tickets. So there were a lot of tourists, but the didactics and methods to explain the person van gogh are awesome. You will need around 3h to see everything.

For me, the most important pictures of van gogh were missing.

It was a fantastic visit! The museum is very well organized, you can choose between audio guide or human guide but audio is a very complete guide. Better don't visit without any guide because there are many things you need to know about the artist and a guide will help you to fill like Van Gogh.

If you like Van Gogh, you will love it. If you love Van Gogh, you will adore it. You can see how his work matured and progressed through his short life. No photos are allowed, so you can just relax and enjoy the visual feast.

Great collection.. Photos are forbidden to enable a good flow and avoid people blocking the view- for selfie addicts there are some photo points with big replicas ... nonetheless it is advisable to book an early slot to avoid too many people..

Quickly giving you an idea of Van Gogh's life and works. Easy to read English explanations. Lovely souvenir collection in museum shop. Sorry no pictures as photographs are not allowed for most artworks. Takes a good 2-3 hours to view the place. Suggest you to buy tickets online to save you the time to queue.

Great exhibition, a must see if you are in Amsterdam.
Unfortunately none of the staff were wearing masks, and wearing a mask in the whole museum was complementary.
Unfortunately, the social distancing rule of being apart 1,5 was not possible at any time.
The museum was not ventilated well, which wouldn't be a problem normally, but in this time, with hundreds of people in it, not practicing social distancing, not wearing masks, I was very worried about my health. I would not recommend coming here if you have health concerns.

Quick pass if you buy an e-ticket online. Although I didn't use audio guide device, there should exist many language options. Goods stores are on 0, 1, and 3rd(actually book store) so you can drop by anywhere to buy some souvenirs including books.

Amazing exhibition. You can learn a lot about Van Gogh's life and work. The area with the letters to friends and family really makes the difference in letting us know exactly how he felt and how he expressed himself.

Even if you are not an art lover, you will appreciate the unique style in which Van Gogh was painting. There are obviously many of his paintings in the museum as well as some other artists that were either his friends or just artists that painted in the similar style.

You get to learn a bit of Van Gogh's life and see some of the beautiful masterpieces of the "guy that cut off his ear".

My wife was thoroughly overjoyed to see the biggest masterpieces of Van Gogh and I was definitely glad to tag along, definitely worth to see this museum, you will not regret it.

Whatever you do, don't pull out your phone to take pics here; they yell at you & make you delete them. They should really get visitors to do a follow queue because it's so incredibly busy here that you have to work your way in & out of a constant crowd just to see the art work. It's all worth it though because it's Van Gogh. I definitely recommend extra time at his 'Twee vrouwen en Cypress' because of the shapes within the tree & also check out 'Almond Blossoms' because it's incredibly pleasing to the eye.

Great collection of Van Gogh works along with works from other masters, influenced, influencing or simply working at the same time with Van Gogh. You can easily spend 3-4 hours if you spend time at each work, including any temporary exhibitions. Otherwise 40' are enough for the highlights.

Limited time in a museum doesn't make any sense when you have people who walk at a slower pace than others. If you have to pay to get in you should be allowed to see the full thing even if you are not as fast as everyone else.

Good museum but with very high prices for adults (free for kids). If you live in the Netherlands I'd recommend a museumkaart (yearly subscription for nearly all museums in the NL) to avoid overspending.

No need to say that's a very nice museum. Tickets can be purchased only online unless you don't have museumkaart (museum card). It is usually very busy so I recommend to go early morning or on Friday evening (on Fridays it is open until 10pm). Enjoy

This museum is put together really well. Recent upgrades have made the entrance more interesting and provided a bigger space for dropping off and picking up belongings. The museum does a great job with illustrating the life of Van Gogh and the transformation of his painting style throughout his life.

Why type something new when the words were already...

Why type something new when the words were already said in an episode of Doctor Who (S5/E10):

"To me, Van Gogh is the finest painter of them all certainly the most popular, great painter of all time. The most beloved, his command of color most magnificent. He transformed the pain of his tormented life into ecstatic beauty. Pain is easy to betray, but you use your passion and pain to portray the ecstasy and joy and magnificence of our world, no one has ever done it before. Perhaps no one ever will again. To my mind, that's strange, wild man who roamed the fields of Provence was not only the world's greatest artist but also one of the greatest man who ever lived."

To be able to see his work in person, to experience this with others who love the work of this amazing artist was something I will never forget. Every second I spend in this Museum was a second I will treasure. If you are a fan of Vincent Van Gogh, this is a place you must visit.

Very informative museum on the history of Van Gogh and his work. I went in not knowing much, and feel as though I could probably pick out many of his paintings and tell you a bit about them now!

This is just a prime example of a very well thought out museum with a fascinating history to tell. I have never seen an exhibition deliver a story so clearly before in my life. The mechanisms it has to bring the audience up close and personal with Van Gogh are just incredible. I have recommended it to everyone I know who visited Amsterdam and they have only agreed with me.

Van Gogh is an absolute master painter and the museum is very focused on his development throughout his life. The museum collects many of his works and letters and arranges them chronologically, along with history about Van Gogh to provide context. Enjoyable enough but definitely felt expensive relative to other museums in the city.

If you're a fan of Van Gogh and impressionist art, this place definitely offers a lot of information and insight into his life. Unfortunately the museum itself is so packed with people you can hardly enjoy the art with everyone bumping into one another. The layout is a bit odd with a small stairwell connecting all floors, which leads to a bottleneck of visitors waiting. I confirmed with staff, before leaving my bag at the cloakroom whether I could take in my camera and take photos (no flash). As soon as I got upstairs I soon found out, this is not the case as they are very strict on no photos being taken. Online tickets only, 19 entry, a further 5 for an audio guides seems rather money-grabbing.

Simply incredible!! This Van Gogh Collection is amazing. I learned so much about Van Gogh that I never knew before. A must see when in Amsterdam. Go early! Crowds start early! Book tickets ahead of time. We got skip the line tickets for 9:00am. Staff are very strict about no pictures policy of Van Gogh originals!! Must be respected.. Gift shops are very well stocked. Best stocked one is on main floor. Cafe was really good too! Highly Recommend!

Morden museum building.
Unfortunately, forbidding to shoot inside.

He is the best Painter ever

He is the best Painter ever
He is the only painter scientifically proven that
The paintings act upon the viewers
His brushstroke patterns match the scientific
Formula. For turbulence
This is my 2nd time

The 1st time I spent 6 hours and later
I was overwhelmed by emotional response for
About 30 days

This time I particularly planned to spend 1 hour per day
And not to look at particular paintings too long
He only painted for 10 years.
In his last 80 days he produced 75 paintings.

There are 2 special exhibits now which I will visit tomorrow!

Great museum that showcases many great paintings from Van Gogh and various influences of his. 2 to 2.5 hours tops and you should have enough time to explore the museum without feeling rushed. I would avoid high season (i went in dec and there was a crowd) could only imagine how crazy it would be at peak season. You wouldn't be able to see any of the artworks properly.

Worth your time whether you are a big fan of Van Gogh or new to him. The museum gives a thorough narrative of his life and love of art. It allows you to understand Van Gogh as a person, as well as each of his famous paintings.

Lovely museum, really strict about not taking any pictures. Lot of people visit so there might be a waiting time-gap when u get in the museum. Nice collection of Van Gogh paintings with storytelling texts of his life. Audio-story with headphones available, didn t use it as it was for extra money and the texts on the wall were really enough. There was also a nice exhibition of Paul Gauguin and Charles Laval. Recommend.

This was a great Museum. I'd advise you to get the audio which describes highlighted pictures so you are aware of what you are seeing. You can walk through at a leisurely pace and read about the pictures as well. Found the museum very interesting. You are not allowed to take pictures inside the Museum and you have to check in your bags as well but it is free to check in your bags. Advise you to get there early because you have to get tickets for a certain time period and they they were selling out quick.

25 euro for the entrance doesn't seem expensive at first but with everything else being expensive in Amsterdam, I wouldn't say this was cheap, though it's well worth the money for someone interested in art and such things!

Would do it again.

A very good experience. Not knowing much about the artist, I would have liked more substantial information on the way round. There's plenty of his works, and other pieces relevant to his influences and life. I liked that the pieces were organised predominantly in a timeline. The museum itself is set on lovely grounds and all the facilities and shops are of a high standard. I had a lovely afternoon's visit.
