Van der Valk Avifauna Review

It's great that the bird park is right next door and you can use it for free ... Unfortunately, there is no way to ventilate properly and cleanliness is not necessarily an excellent feature ... But the breakfast is great ... It has all its pros and cons ...;)

Fine hotel only climate control could be better. No air con room.

Doubt between 3 and 4 stars.
Positive: nice people at reception. Room is spacious and clean. Everything present what is needed. And especially nice to have the ostriches on your balcony!
Negative: Has a musty odor. Also in the room. Not really pleasant. And the mattresses ... Too old? Both my wife and I had back pain when getting up. Never have I ever ...

Is in Bird Park Avifauna walk past it upon arrival!

Our favorite restaurant for years. Quality has only improved over the years. Staff is also very friendly.

First of all, a compliment for the pleasant and attentive service in the restaurant where I had coffee this morning with a friend.
But then the toilets! Nasty and sticky doors and nasty sinks, and there was a nasty musty smell.
This is really not possible in 2019 and think it is a mockery for this restaurant.

I was a guest in the toucan room for a party. The service was very friendly and the food was well cared for. There were also gluten-free and vegetarian options.

Nice lunch with 80 other guests. The rest didn't mean much to us. A pity.

We had a very good time. Well received, excellent breakfast and delicious a la carte. Also visited the casino and the bird park. Also recommended is Hoek van Holland near the Maaskant barrier and then with a guide very interesting and of course to the sea.

Beautiful bird park unfortunately we had bad road so could not enjoy it for long.

Seen the bird show: how impressive. Every child should see this. Much added value than those beautiful nature films.

Staff in the restaurant were not prepared for a large group (which had booked in advance), were openly irritated and audibly shared this with colleagues. When you spoke to them about this, this was denied.
People were not willing to look at the possibilities, but in the first instance rejected all questions with we will not start on that or that is not possible or we have no staff for that
We had a good time together and the Avifauna park was beautiful but I would not recommend a stay or dinner at Vd valk Alphen aan de Rijn

I came for the restaurant which was closed but told the staff so I don't really have details.
It looks nice.

All beds are very clean, you have a lot of space to store your things. there is a restaurant and an animal park, plenty to do and fun for the kids!

Nice hotel. You have to get used to the fact that in the evening you have to be in the middle of the park for the restaurant, and in the morning in the roadhouse for breakfast.
As far as I am concerned, this Van der Valk location is quite dated. In my opinion, this location is in need of renovation.
It's not like things are broken and / or very worn out. But if you make the comparison with other Van der Valk hotels, this one lags considerably behind.

We had room 205. This is a room with a nice view to the park (see my photos for a photo of the view). Only drawback is that this room is directly above the bar. If you are a light sleeper or fall asleep slowly, this is an objection. Rooms with an odd number are at the rear of the hotel (view of Avifauna). The low sit briefly on the street side.
I understand that every hotel guest has free access to Avifauna (on presentation of the cover that contains your keycard). I recommend that you also visit the park.

Note: the bar in the hotel building is called "Nimmerzat". So I read this as "never tired". It is pleasant there and the service is good. Given the prices, I also expect that you will never leave the bar full :-D

Food was very good and it was pleasant, service was disappointing

Saturday April 1 went to the terrace of the restaurant with my wife, we wanted to have a drink on the terrace, but unfortunately.
Although the waiters walked in past the window a few times so they could see us well, we were not served anyway. So after a while I left again without having a drink.
Unfortunately, this is not the first time this has happened to us.
It seems as if they don't feel like coming out, that is allowed, but then close the terrace for visitors.

Nice and easy low key casual dining. You can take your kids here. Make sure to arrive a few hours early and visit avifauna (bird zoo) before dinner you won't be sorry

Restaurant is getting a bit dated and maintenance would not be a luxury. The kitchen is of an average standard, prices on the high side. For the same money you can eat better in Alphen aan den Rijn.

No air conditioning, no blinds, more than 40 garden in the room. Noise from air conditioning in the rooms where there is air conditioning, candy machine in front of the door that also makes a rotgel

I am only rating the hotel and not the bird park.
I stayed at the Van der Valk Hotel Avifauna for one night and had a clearly shabby room, with a sagging mattress and a not entirely clean bathroom.
The water pressure is also almost non-existent and this was independent of the time.
The breakfast buffet looked okay, but nothing special either.
It should be renovated urgently in order to do justice to the price.

Nice cruise and the food was top as with every v / d falcon and they are well set up for every group

We had a dinner with our brother-in-law in the park, first a round trip with coffee and cake on board, this was very well organized. Dinner was a theme in 6 dishes around the world, I think this is highly recommended. Lots of choice and well prepared. We really enjoyed this.

Bird zoo owned by the hotel and restaurant company van der Valk. They have several kinds of birds species like penguins, parrots, emus, ostriches, flamingos and spoonbills as well as some birds of prey. They also have some none-bird species like lemurs and and squirrel monkees.

Their bird show is spectacular with all kinds of flocks of birds flying in from their enclosures for a bite to eat. A lot of fun to watch. You can also handfeed the Lori's or watch the Humboldt penguins being fed.

The layout of the park is good; rectangular, and not to big so good to complete with small children. They have an enormous playground/fair and arcade hall which is great for children.

I think they should do something about the ostrich enclosure. One of the ostriches was showing disturbed behavior due to being locked up. I think they should have more space and interaction with other animals.

Free parking. Small souvenir shop. Friendly staff.

I have never been here for an overnight stay. But a few times in the restaurant. Of all the vd Valk locations I have been to, this is, in my opinion, one of the 'smallest' and the least spacious. But I can be wrong. The food in the restaurant is also delicious and lots of choice. You can also sit outside on the terrace. Besides Avifauna so that is of course nice!

Not so much the van der valk hotel, but we were here with the whole family for a day to the bird park avifauna. Greatly enjoyed the bird show, but the park itself also has a lot to offer, birds feed the half-monkeys, one for the smallest a playground.

Hotel:
A bit dated, could use a renovation compared to other van der valk hotels. How noisy from the hallway. Bathroom could be a little cleaner. Not all electrical outlets worked. Bed was lovely and a nice television in the room.
Ample parking space.

Staff:
At the reception very friendly and helpful. Nothing to criticize.

Restaurant:
Delicious food, and very nice to eat out in Corona time. Adhered to the measures properly. Smooth operation. It seemed as if a staff member of the waitress did not feel like it very much, appeared a bit irritated. For the rest, neat and good assortment with generous portions. Breakfast was fine. In other falcons more spacious but certainly could not complain.

All in all, 4 stars.

People were so sweet and cooperative to make something fun out of it during this time

The restaurant is tastefully decorated and plenty of space between tables. We drank only tea, which was fine! The restaurant and the hotel so I have no experience. Definitely go here more often.

Avifauna is a nice and beautiful park with many species of birds and half-monkeys
The offer is nicely varied and the bird demonstrations are also very nice. The people who work with the birds here know what they are doing.
Despite it being such a warm period, the birds were still very active.
Also nice that tours through the green heart are done from avifauna
We did not visit the hotel because we only came to Avifauna for one day
