Great place for all your camera needs

Especially if you need real photography equipment and don't have time to order something online.

Not many places carry professional camera equipment or even simple things as a compact flash card. The other week I went to 3 stores to try and find a compact flash memory card and no one carried them. Went here and found one instantly as well as knowledgeable staff that were very helpful.

The store is quite good. I'm well surprised with the amount of products, brands and prices. The service good and accurate.

make the drive out here but its well worth it.. have everything I need for reasonable prices.. highly recommend

This is truly a photographer's heaven. The staff really know their stuff and give you the time to help you and are never in a rush. They care about selling bit seems like a secondary purpose. I love this place everytime I have an issue I go here first and they always help me out.

If I can give them a "0 rating" I would. Not only is the film side of photography almost none existent, I bought a bag of D76 from them and it was no good. I lost 4 rolls of film that I developed one at a time,
I'm so pissed it hurts.

This photo institution has been in Miami for as long as I can remember. They have a great selection of gear and services and their staff is friendly and helpful.

The store is spacious and well appointed. I don't think there is a camera accessory they don't carry. If they can't help you, they will advise on who can.
I have been a customer for about 15 years and always satisfied. The last visit was in early December of 2014. I was not there for a new purchase (wish I was) but to ask about a camera I had purchased a year before. The associate that helped me was patient with plenty of know-how. I may use other smaller vendors closer to my home, from time to time...but if I want the final answers or the best quality, I always go to Pitman Photo Supply.

As a photographer I can say that it is a PROFESSIONAL store in every way and the treatment of its staff is excellent.

I've been a long-time customer of Pitman Photo. Although this location is smaller than their previous, you'll still find the same helpful staff and merchandise any pro photographer would need. Unfortunately they no longer process film in house.

On the phone, they tell me I can convert a VHS recording I made of an old TV broadcast special to a DVD. I got there in person and again they tell me I can convert my VHS recording of a TV broadcast to a DVD. The following day after I submit my tape, they tell me they can't convert it for copyright reasons. What bothers me is not their reasoning for not converting it. What bothers me is that I told them multiple times what my VHS tape contained and they said they could convert it. Why have me waste my time going there multiple times to not get the service I requested. They didn't even have the common courtesy to rewind my tape. Terrible experience, terrible service.

The go to spot for my photography needs. If I need something in a hurry & amazon or B&H can't do it for me I head over to Pitman. They have a lovely staff who are very knowledgeable. I was very dissapointed today about this place. The staff, especially the lady who seemed in charge, was rude and without asking me how she can help me, she just told me rudely that they cannot serve me today. I just left thinking that sadly you have to go to Amazon, rather than supporting local businesses. Definitely a better option than dealing with people who do not know how to treat a customer.

Cheapest place I could find for high quality passport photos

Service is good. Selection is lacking unless you are looking for Canon, Nikon or Sony Gear (I'm a Fuji Shooter). I get that the big three companies mentioned have the largest market share for full frame selections but Fujifilm is #1 when it comes to the crop sensor mirrorless lineup. And we all know the inevitable future lies in mirrorless cameras for regular consumer use..

They're very helpful. I arrived there 2 minutes before closing and they welcomed me in. I went there to get 35 mm film processed.

About the only place in town where you can get used equipment and very decent selection of new. Customer services is top notch

Pitman probably has what you're looking for in their inventory, but NONE of the staff know ANYTHING about photography/videography.

If you're a pro, prepare to browse through everything yourself. If you're an amateur, DON'T let the staff guide you, as their level of knowledge is quite shallow.

Let me give you examples of what my business partner and I encountered (in chronological order):

We first got a 5K gorilla pod. We asked for a ball-head for the gorilla pod, but were not directed to anything useful. I found them on the shelf right next to where we were talking, to my luck.

At this point, we still did not know what we were in for. Next, we inquired about a specific tripod. We asked if they carried a very specific Manfrotto video camera tripod with a ball-head. The employee kept recommending other products.

Somewhat frustrated from the diversion, we pointed to another tripod already open (without the ball-head), said that we were looking for the exact same model, just with a ball-head already attached. Such an item exists with 100% certainty (we already have one in our studio), it was just a matter of whether they had it in stock or not.

Seeing that the employee was somewhat lost, we showed the item we were looking for from Manfrotto's website. The employee said that they did not carry it.

The thing is, though, they DID carry it. We were getting slight hints of ignorance from the answers we were receiving, so we were really not convinced.

We started rummaging through the tripod boxes against the wall, and voila, we actually found 4 of the tripods we were looking for.

Don't get me wrong; we weren't rude or anything (no swearing, etc.), but were already clearly visibly frustrated, since we had already lost 15 mins. just manually going through each and every tripod box leaning against the wall.

Quite frustrated at this point, we next started looking for a specific monopod that was broken a few weeks ago. We found our old model, but also came across another one that was almost identical. It just did not have the max weight carrying limit stated on the box, but was lighter in build. Both were again Manfrotto.

We did the mistake of asking the same employee what the difference was. This was the answer he gave us: "well that one's a monopod"...

At that point, we asked for someone else to help us. He left us saying "well you probably didn't like me that much it seems".

The next guy came over, and he didn't know anything either, but at least he didn't pretend to know and left us quickly enough.

The point where we lost all hope and just simply started helping ourselves was when we started talking to the third guy.

We asked if they sold lavalier microphones for the Sennheiser EW 112P (or any other Sennheiser wireless microphone for that matter).

He asked "what's that?"

We repeated ourselves, "the microphone piece for the Sennheiser wireless microphone set".

He said "oh ok, what brand?"

At that point, we abandoned all hope.

At the end of the day, we did purhase goods exceeding 1K USD in amount, but we browsed every corner of the store ourselves, without anyone's help, losing all the precious time in the world.

So let me repeat what I said at the beginning: if you know what you're looking for, do it yourself. If you're a pro, expect to browse all by yourself. If you're an amateur, do NOT let anyone guide you, since you will 100% purchase the wrong stuff. Learn your basics from YouTube, make a list and don't let them guide you.

Pitman is all about tbeir knowledgeable staff ready to help you. If you live in Dade County, in the Upper Keys (as I do), or even in Broward County, their location is convenient, sales and technical support is awesome, and the business has been here since... well, I bought a Nikon N-70 camera, 50 mm, a 70-300 zoom, and my favorite, a 105 mm Micro-Nikkor macro lens from them in 1990. Hands-on comparisons of equipment, knowledge of various brands reliability, repair histories and customer support. Just try getting service like this from Amazon, or any mail order retailer.

I have used this store since 2011 when I bought my DSLR camera and have been back many times since. The staff are all very friendly and always willing to help. They are very knowledgeable with no high-pressure sales. While you might (?) get a product cheaper on line it cannot beat access to this staff when you need them. Highly recommended

Pitman Photo Supply is everything you would expect in a fine photography store. Their staff is professional and willing to help make sure your purchase fits your need. I travel from across the state to deal with this store, and it has been worth the trip to talk with their staff, and try out new equipment right in the store. The pricing on everything that I have purchased, has been competitive, but you have the advantage of personal interaction that makes this place a gem.
