Modern, open, large bookshop. Book 4 floors. Regularly special promotions and writers who come along. If you are going to Amsterdam, you must pass here. Staff know where they are talking about.

Really atmospheric book store. Doesn't feel like you're right in the centre of Amsterdam. Good toilet too. Reasonable English language collection. Feels very relaxed.

Great big bookstore. Good selection of comics & comics. Nice 2nd hand books. Many magazines.

How wonderful you can browse books here and then plop down in the atmospheric coffee corner. Worth several visits!

Scheltema has an extensive range of books and other literature. You can take your time to make a choice. The staff are also friendly and very customer-friendly. In short, a TOP bookstore !!

Gigantic bookshop with everything your heart desires. Costs a fraction more than the blue web shop, but I would be happy to wander between the shelves or sink into an armchair with your (upcoming) purchases.

Remains a heavy bookstore where you always manage to succeed.

Most beautiful bookstore in Amsterdam. Really a mecca for the book lover and you can have a delicious lunch there.

A literary experience. From poetry to comics, from bestsellers to niche literature, from second hand to fresh from the press. Scheltema offers more than just buying books. You can drink coffee while you read a magazine, you can look at a puppet show and there are sofas and armchairs everywhere to throw you in a new book. Enthusiastic and experienced employees and wheelchair accessible!

A cozy bookstore. The inside is clean and fresh. All staff are friendly and friendly. Each of them knows a little German, they speak excellent English. Instead of stairs to the 2nd floor - there are squadrons. You can enter with the dog.

I should actually give 10 stars but unfortunately that is not possible. Super store. So many books. There is something for everyone. Also great that there is a small restaurant / cafe in it or something to drink. And also nice that the staff knows so much about the books. If you want a particular kind of book just ask and they know where it is.

Love this bookshop. Great selection. Although I loved the former place at Koningsplein the best, it still is my favorite bookstore in Amsterdam (with nice view over Amsterdam)

Wonderfully relaxed bookstore with multiple floors and seating areas everywhere for a quiet look in a book. Extensive range of books and magazines. There is also a floor with second-hand books. Events such as lectures, book presentations or a cooking demonstration are regularly organized. There is also a restaurant where you can eat and / or drink. Nice side effect; meanwhile you can charge your mobile in a safe.

More a library, than a bookstore. More a day out, than a library.

Forget the Dam, the Red Light District, the Rijksmuseum. Scheltema would be one of my first tips for a day in Amsterdam. Very well-known bookstore! The interior, the mega-extensive range (nowhere else seen such a large section of foreign-language literature) and the fact that you can drink coffee there (and have lunch) make a visit to this bookstore a party!

One of the few proper bookstores where you can still discover great (non mainstream) books. Proper secondhand and ramsj department as well.

I need this bookstore everywhere. Seriously, it's relatively inexpensive, includes many English language books, used books, and covers a vast array of topics over multiple floors.

Rude staff, even after a complaint email no response. I was a customer here for a very long time, but will never set foot in it again.

As member of a weekly writing group, I end up here every other week. It is a large bookstore, with a huge assortment and staff that knows their titles and can always make recommendations. Because it s located on the Rokin, part of Amsterdam s biggest tourist area, the bookstore is often busy so don t expect a quiet space. There are also very limited nooks to sit for a bit while making up your mind about books, it s actually the only downside to the classic bookstore.

Keep an eye out on their calendar though. Scheltema often hosts book signings, presentation, or other book related activities.
