Super store where you can not only buy books, but have room to sit and read and also for coffee occasion !!

Brilliant book shop; great amount of books, lots of variety, spacious and calm.

We enter this afternoon to kindly ask where to find stamps. The salesman was rude with us treated us as stupid turists asking in the wrong place. It's a pitty in a library figthing against ebooks his answer was "I do not sent postcards, I always send emails".

Love this book store! Could spend an entire day here just looking around and discovering what they all have to offer (THEY HAVE EVERYTHING)

The store is spread over several floors, there is an extensive range of books. There are seating areas to view the books quietly. You can also drink coffee there.

Fantastic bookstore. Hard to believe, so many books and so accessible. What is really nice about this store are the many places where you can sit down.

The best book shop in NL, period. Always some nice deals in their large selection of 'Ramsj'. Also nice to get a coffee, a small bite or, if you're in the mood just to sit and read a bit in one of the many sitting areas.

Fantastic store with a wide range. Very friendly staff. It is beautifully and conveniently arranged, so you can easily search for a specific book. A top location is also so close to the dam. Highly recommended

What I love about Amsterdam is the amount of bookshops. At Scheltema you can also drink a nice cup of joe. It's one of the larger bookshops, but thanks to the cosy corners and coffee corner it is a nice place to peruse.

A must see if you go to Amsterdam .... Peaceful, spacious and extremely comfortable place, devoted ... reading: three floors full of international journals, books covering all areas and particularly an extraordinary ray of art ! When your choice is made you can sit at the cafe .... and if you want to spend the day ... in the books! A must-see place!

One of the largest bookstores in the Netherlands with a great variety of books. Books in multiple languages (including English, French, German and Spanish) besides Dutch are available. There is plenty of staff available to answer all your questions. Definitely a recommendation to visit if you are in the neighborhood.

It has become a much nicer and more spacious store than at its former location on Koningsplein. Many books are attractively laid out on different tables in the store. It really invites you to read. The employees also have expert knowledge.

A beautiful and large bookshop that has almost every book. If in doubt, you can always call if the book you are looking for is in stock. You can even have a snack or drink here in between the books.

Fine browsing, now especially with the pied a terre department on the second floor. Drink a nice juice at a lunch on the first floor, the coffee is also delicious.

A very fine bookstore, everything from books to books, comics, novels, cookbooks, etc. You name it. I wanted to order a book, which they happened to have in stock and was immediately put ready so that I could pick it up the same day. They also have nice staff here, really nice to be here in booklets. Top, keep it up !!

An amazing store, it's huge. Very unobtrusive staff that seems very nice. A great reading corner for kids, but lacking a bit in English childrens books.

Every time I go to Scheltema, I buy some books.. Not good for a student limited budget, but that's life :)

One of my favorite bookstores in Amsterdam. The staff does more than just stand at the till. Was here recently and I was helped by the staff, an employee was able to inform me extensively about English study books. In the end I ordered a few books online from Scheltema and with shipping costs they were still a lot cheaper than other stores (Bol, Intertaal, Watsons). Not five stars because the range may be expanded!

Very ancient library near the Dam. It occupies an entire building and on each floor deals with various themes. Also inside a cafeteria. I found it very interesting because it is the oldest in Amsterdam and inside an ancient building.
