Best bookstore in Amsterdam for English language books. I heard there are also used books for sale but havent seen it myself. It's a huge place (with 5 floors I think) and a cafe.

Great selection of books. When you visit you should also check out their ramsj all the way up. On the way up you'll find more great books for fair prices. Staff is very friendly and helps you out when you ask them to, but is not trying to be in your face all the time. Will visit again soon!

Lovely book shop with great selection of English and Dutch fiction and nonfiction books. There's a separate section for kids' books and a section for other languages. Large place close to the heart of Amsterdam tucked away in a blink and miss alley.

It has become a beautiful business at the Rokin, where Pied de Terre is nicely integrated with travel books and maps. An Eldorado for book lovers! And don't forget the "lunchroom"!

In short, the best bookshop in Amsterdam. Nicely located in a beautiful old building. Very wide range of books and friendly staff. There is also a small cafe and clean toilets. Definitely recommended during a day in Amsterdam.

A real bookstore. One where you, as a book lover, can hang around almost endlessly. Books for every age in all categories. Corners where you can sit down. A coffee corner is also available.

Great selection of books, but the building is horrible with stairs between the escalators.

An internet order was not delivered. Went to the store and asked what's going on. The employee selected everything and placed another order with the supplier. After that she helped me very well and professionally with other travel books.

An excellent modern-format bookstore with a coffee shop, reading room, office department and all kinds of interesting accessories in the very center of the city. An interesting children's department with a small play area. A cozy place if you want peace in the city a bit oversaturated by tourists

What a great bookstore. I have avoided that Rokin for years, even though I come to Amsterdam every day. Become beautiful. Scheltema is an asset in terms of supply, design and appearance. I go there more often.

I've not had an opportunity to visit in person, hence the four star review, but I was able to order a book online that I'd been wanting. It hasn't been published outside of the Netherlands yet. The staff responded in a timely and courteous manner to my e-mails and went above and beyond in spite of the language barrier. They helped me with everything I needed. The book itself arrived within a week and a half and was in excellent condition except for slight peeling at the top of the spine, although that probably occurred during packaging. If I ever need another Dutch book I'll be sure to come again!

The Scheltema Bookstore is a hidden gem in the center of the city. Right next to the uber busy Dam Square, you can find a quiet cafe, on the first floor of Scheltema, where you can read, work, or chat, and have some nice cake on the side. Also, all floors of the bookstore have communal tables where people can sit and read or work. Highly recommended for people who work through their laptop and seek a quiet and confy place in the city center!
