A trip to Margate deserves a visit to the Turner.Hiwever if you are specifically going purely to visit the gallery I would recommend you check it's not changing exhibits and is open. Otherwise well worth a visit but take your credit card, entry is free but there is a fabulous shop which might test your wallet
I have to say that having a Tuner gallery in Margate is the correct place for it as he obviously had a strong connection to his secret mistress here. The building itself I think from the outside is a bit boxey and rather plain. The inside is better with it's smooth walls and floors. Thier isn't a huge amount of Turners work here which seems a bit odd. But that said I've visited this gallery a lot and it always has something that's interesting, a nice day out though. Gallery, beech and finish with fish n chips. Perfect day.
The Turner Contemporary is a beautiful place with amazing views and superb exhibitions. And the gift shop and cafe are amazing too. I can't praise the Turner too highly - it really is that good. The people of Margate should feel justifiably proud to have such an asset in their town. I have no doubt that if he were alive, JMW Turner would be very pleased too.
Latest exhibition The Wasteland T.S. Eliot is full of gold nuggets; which will stretch your mind and get you to expand your intellectual and creative horizons.
Not being a fan of modern art I did not really appreciate this museum. These tasks of colors on the canvases will not leave me an unforgettable memory. Free entrance and disabled access.
The place was clean, I just don't like modern art. An unmade bed and some shapes on a page is not set in my view.
Another of my favourite places to visit. I just love it here which stands to reason as I love art.
You need to be into your art as some could find it hard going. But it's free so it's not an issue. Take a punt and broaden your horizons.
Excellent regional gallery, world class exhibitions
The location is perfect and they always have an exhibition that resonates. The shop and cafe are pretty good as well!!!
Seen some great exhibitions over the years. Love this place! Just wish we could take our dog in
Great place great exhitions admission is free. The only thing is that is far from London
It was great, all the exhibitions were really interesting and Margate gallery is a great place to go with family or friends! I really recommend it
Great gallery with excellently curated shows. Shop is a bit overpriced. Nice cafe/bar
Great free gallery with good range of exhibitions and always some excellent Turner's to accompany.
Beautiful space hosting up and coming and new artist. The Turner Prize 2019 will be there this year ffom September. So, there will be visitors from all over the world. The gallery has the biggest lift (elevator) I have seen. So, all groups can be accommodated and no one gets lost. Excellent art.
Nice location, easy to access. Exhibits tend to be a bit esoteric and often not varied.
Nice gallery, the cafe was popular and had tasty food. It looks like there's some good exhibitions on.
A great place to spend an hour. Some stuff for kids. I kind of find the place quite limited. Nice gift shop. If you're visiting Margate then worth a visit.
Nice building overlooking Margate Harbour & Beach with modern & Contemporary Art. Food and Drinks available and good value as free admission to the Gallery.
Unfortunately, I just got kicked out of the Turner Contemporary because I came barefoot. Questioning the staff about a reason for not being allowed to visit art with bare feet, they came up with an actual 'shoe policy'. That's not what I call an artistic spirit. Staff was understanding, but determined to have me leave nonetheless. Disappointed. Besides. I am a regular in several museums in both the UK and germany, including The National Gallery, Tate Britain and Tate Modern, Victoria and Albert and British Museum and none of these had any problems with barefoot visitors, nor did any german museum I've been in by now.
Wonder what's so dangerous about naked feet and if they'd keep a barefoot Yoko Ono from visiting too.
It's a free exhibition accessible to everyone. It's cool
Nice space, but exhibits only change every quarter, so not one to visit very regularly
The single best thing in Margate, admittedly the bar isn't set very high but don't underestimate this place. Great exhibits and helpful, knowledgeable staff really make this place special.
Always something different here when I come along. Never disappointed
A little boring for me but nice place and good restaurant with outdoor sitting
A very laid back atmosphere, with some kooky artwork
We went to visit Paula the Polar Bear and it was just wonderful. We are local residents and always keep an eye out for things that are going on. The animal exhibition upstairs was also really good but Paula was just amazing.
Good cafe pricey, range limited free entry nice surprise these days, will go again.
First time I have visited enjoyed the exhibition from offenders in Her Majesty's prisons very enlightening
Pretentious waste of time. Good toilets, on a par with any of the artwork.
Great exhibition space (seaside photos when we went).
Great place to visit and just along from the beach. A real education for the younger ones and adults too. Its an inspiration whether your into art or not, so male the effort to visit.
Never been disappointed - good to challenge one's own taste and broaden horizons too.
Bit disappointed the day we went it was shut for an advent
Interesting range of exhibits. Free so what's not to like. Would have been a crime not to make a donation to such a wonderful place
The Contemporary has a very good cafe overlooking the harbour. The hot chocolate is especially good - 70% cocoa!
Disappointed. The gallery is small and the work very, very modern and challenging. Only two exhibitions in at a time, so not much choice.
Less about art. More about perpetuating the guardian narratives and political activism. Obviously bad stuff happens in the world... learning about that is called news.
I love visiting the Turner Contemporary. Everytime, there is a great exhibition. Just walking up the wide steps, next to the sandy beach and having the sea breeze whip your hair into a bit of a mess, adds to the attraction. You can imagine Turner, working on one of his seascapes and then go into the spacious galleries and maybe see his Fighting Temeraire. A day by the sea, made extra special.
1st time to visit Turner Contempory Gallery. Wonderful exhibition on Space and Time by Kate Paterson interlinked with Turners paintings. Quite perfect
interesting art galleries has a restaurant and cafe inside great location
Really enjoyed the gallery. The space is great and the photography exhibition we saw was of really good quality with a big display. The location is perfect, you can have a really good lunch or tea after the visit with beautiful views of the sea. Nice shop too.
There's no permanent collection and temporary exhibitions change every couple of months, so whether you enjoy it depends on what's on when you visit. I loved the Wasteland exhibition in March 18.
The building is attractive and light, and the cafe is worth a stop.
It is one of the most enjoyable contemporary art museums I have ever been to. Exhibitions change every six months, the are free guided tours and the building itself is a work of art.
Well-curated museum by the seaside. Very friendly and welcoming staff.
Really nice gallery, ever changing which is great for me as i go there regularly.
Loved the display and the thoughts which went into it!
