The Turner is ALWAYS fantastic. Great exhibitions,...
The Turner is ALWAYS fantastic. Great exhibitions, great space, beautiful light.
The Turner is ALWAYS fantastic. Great exhibitions, great space, beautiful light.
Went to see Turner Prize finalists. Like the judges, would have been hard pushed to find a winner.
With it's changing exhibitions, always worth a visit. What's more, it's free
Liked the apes sculptures, and the museum concept, it is thought provoking though not always of my taste #washawaypaint
There were no exhibits to see and this was only advertised on a small A4 sheet once inside the venue
Lovely contemporary gallery. The current Animals&Us exhibition is great, and will have something for everyone
Very disappointing. It is a large building with not enough items to fill it. I also feel that photos of dogs are not art! They should have one of the room especially for local artist. This would increase interest. Heard others moaning about the waste of time going there so it wasn't just me. Only good thing is ..It's free
Fantastic space with brilliant programme of shows - something for everyone.
Beautiful building and a fantastic asset to Margate
Really nice place if you have never been to a gallery
Airy gallery enhanced by light from sea views. Large galleries with an engaging exhibition of seaside photos when I visited. Good cafe with options on the road if it is full.
Rude staff, animal exhibition but no dogs allowed despite dog stalls outside? Not recommended
Pretentious nonsense surely there must be more talented artists out there worthy of display
Love it here..lay inside the stomach installation. Close to Margate old town
Not as good as expected but maybe should have spent more time looking at the exhibits
Wonderful gallery, with knowledgeable friendly assistants. The Tracey Emin death mask was my highlight.
Excellent coffee shop, fish and chips and wine. Set by the sea near the tower. Beautiful collections and pretty good presentation
Great views of the seafront and a stunning building but didn't reach expectations inside. Very friendly and helpful staff.
A lot of it was closed for a new exhibition being set up. Bit sad that. Almost the whole of October.
We thought more explanation of the works would be helpful. A little out of my depth I'm afraid.
The current 'animal' exhibition at the Turner is fabulous, family friendly, interactive and free, well worth a visit!
At the time, there weren't many exhibitions on. The Seaside Photography exhibit was alright though. Weren't here long unfortunately
Always great views, friendly staff, good food and intriguing art.
Can be a nice way to spend some time, depends a lot on what is exhibiting.
Love the fact that the exhibitions change every so often. Finding the current one very powerful.
Intellectual gymnastics are needed to work out any connection between 'Turner inspiration' and the exhibit on show when we visited. It was a ghastly exposition of narrow and divisive US race politics with no effort taken to make any artistic connections whatsoever. Certainly, the worst gallery that we have ever visited in the UK.
Interesting cultural space with good work and people. Free with good cafe.
Interesting space with lovely views out to see. Disappointed that there was no Turner on view:( Not too impressed by the exhibitions.
Fantastic place to visit in Margate, great art and is free!
Great exhibition, sadly not one single Turner on show, should have bought one with me and nailed it up outside!
Nice enough space but exhibits not that exciting. Felt quite parochial. But then it was free so can't complain.
Great gallery with beautifully designed spaces and spacious halls. The cafe was very lacklustre, with half the items sold out before midday. Cheese on a lamb Kofte?? The baby changing alas had no changing mat or traditional changing table and the room although big enough had no loo which isn't ideal for parents with infants.
The views out across shoreline were wonderful and parking can be found at a squeeze on the nearby harbour wall. I look forward to visiting again in the near future.
Alway surprised at the work on show not always my taste but that's what art should be always challenging.
Spent a couple of hours here looking around a fascinating exhibition on black American history with many artefacts to study and learn about. Good quality cafe and souvenir shop on site.
Always a good place 2 visit - even if its difficult 2 understand some pieces
Lovely gallery with a range of exhibitions that change regularly. Good spaces for the art and a wonderful view of the sea. Nice gift shop with some art supplies etc.
Good venue, depending on what is showing might not be suitable for all
Interesting modern art gallery with temporary exhibitions.
If you enjoy 'Modern Art' then you will probably enjoy this gallery. There is nothing wrong with building itself, on the contrary it is modern, well staffed and well equipped. Entry is free and there is a small gift shop. Staff are polite and friendly.
This was a difficult review to write because undeniably the gallery has given a much needed boost to Margate, but at the same time... it's just not art. If this gallery were to display classic pieces of art, pieces that inspire beauty and wonder, pieces that have visible displays of objective skill and talent, rather than drops of paint on canvas; then it would probably be much more culturally beneficial to residents and tourists.
Went to see photo exhibition which was OK, but presentation too "arty" for me
Popped in hoping to see the anthony gormley sculptures but hadnt taken into consideration the tide times so it was hidden. Instead we looked round the sculptures by Phyllida Barlow....uninspiring. michael Armitages political african paintings...depressing..
Only the entrance was accessible.. the rest of the gallery was shut off
Had an amazing day here. ..many brilliant things to study. ..friendly knowledgeable staff. ..will definitely be back
Gorgeous free art gallery - the biggest section is the changing exhibition area so worth checking that out before visiting. Cafe has lovely views and there's a little gift shop. Big exhibition is upstairs but there is a lift.
Everything fantastic at Turner, the Staff are friendly & Great. All Exhibitions are Out of this World It's an Art in itself how they Plan and Display Artist Works Thank You.
Intriguing little gallery. It's like the baby sibling to the Tate Modern in London. Lots abstract art to admire and so close to the sea.
Brilliant local resource. Exhibitions change regularly and staff are knowledgeable and helpful.
Lunch was lovely as was the wine but let down yet again by the slow clearing of tables and when cleared not wiped down - such a basic practice overlooked here. We moved outside to listen to the live jazz where people were coming and going and it was over an hour before anyone came out to clear tables and then again not wiped down. A real pet hate of mine.come on Turner please train your staff in the basics.
If you are a fan of Turner, you might reasonably expect to see at least some of his works permanently on show in a museum bearing his name and built on the site of his accommodation, from where he painted some of his great works. NOT SO. This week when I visited the whole museum was taken up with an obscure collection of artworks made largely from woven fabrics....... a few Turner lithographs can be found in a dark corridor on the ground floor but that is no compensation for a wasted 100 mile round trip. Arguably my own fault for not checking but even so, what a lost opportunity to give a fitting home to his works. Bizarre.
Well, what an ugly building! Does not fit with the town at all. At least it's free to visit which is always welcome.
I'm not sure on modern art, I get you can have random works of art in the gallery. However I would like to see more what I would describe as standard paintings. The interior needs filling and bring to life with more colour.
Love the view through the panoramic windows looking out to sea.
Warm and friendly welcome and detailed explanation of what was on that day. Fabulous space.
Really enjoyed it this time it wasn't weird just great art will go again
Found staff very approachable, informative and friendly
Building is great but the exhibitions and installations are variable
Amazing gallery adjacent to the beach at Margate, friendly staff, interesting exhibitions and good restaurant.
Check online before you visit to see what's on as the exhibitions change often. I've never been disappointed on my visits!
