Great art! Love seeing all the talented artist, also pretty cool that it used to be a torpedo factory.

Quick stop here is fine. More crafts than art. Interesting building.
Nice place if you like the Arts in different formats
This place is really cool. I love it when and old building is saved and repurposed. I enjoyed looking at all of the beautiful art, as well as reading about the history of the torpedo factory.
Fun place to check out the works of the local artists..you can also take art lessons. Beautiful location on the Old town Alexandria waterfront
I really like the idea of having a bunch of art studios in one place
Wonderful Art Colony where artist work in many different media. Great setting on the Alexandria Waterfront.
This is a cool place that is an Old Town treasure. Great for a stroll or to pick up a unique piece of art. Some good street performers outside.
I always find something new here. It's such a coil place with galleries interwoven with working studios. You could have a scavenger hunt in this one building and you'd spend the whole day trying to complete it. I hope it never goes away.
Very large active art work place and museum in the old torpedo factory
About 80 artist studios, ranging from sales space to workshop (but at all you can buy art in some shape or form). Largely the artist her/himself will be there, quite a few working away on their projects.
There are bathrooms on every floor, if there is a long queue at groundlevel just go one floor up ;-)
There is two small cafes, but the food options in the factory are quite limited, if you hungry just step outside on the waterfront and there are restaurants.
The pictures below are from an artist I like who has a studio in the Torpedo Factory, Karen Fitzgerald.
Several dozen studios give you the opportunity to see art in a variety of media, styles, and price ranges. Sometimes you can watch the artist work. Easy to make a date out of it in Old Town.
I take classes at the Art League at the Torpedo factory and I really enjoy it! The classes are very informative and affordable. My only concern is the lack of street parking. Hence why I actually prefer to take Art League classes at the Madison Annex location.
One of my favorite spots on earth. I enjoy connecting with the artists. It's the perfect first date spot too. Just walk around and talk about art. Then go happy hour...if that first part goes well.
Wonderful large variety of arts and artists. A unique place. Great art works and crafts available.
Amazing place to observe all kinds of flavors of art !
Great location, lots of interesting art. The boys enjoyed the archeology room where we put plates back together like a jigsaw.
There was a great piece of three passengers on a bus in vivid colored clothes. The glass of the window was covered in rain drops that appeared to have smiles. It worked for me.
Interesting community of local artists. Great pieces
This is a one time torpedo factory turned art venue housing 3 floors of art galleries. Even if you don't make a purchase, we found it interesting to stroll gallery to gallery taking in the artists creations! (There is no admission fee.)
LOVE torpedo factory. Such a unique experience all captured in one building. Yes, the prices can get steep here, but the art is lovely and handmade. The artists are on-site, so you can meet with them, talk to them, and ask questions if you feel so inclined. Out of all the times I've been, I've never even bought anything, but I just love to go and look at all the amazing artwork. Sometimes there are interactive exhibits and the building itself is a very neat (and extremely clean) place.
Local practicing artists on site. Lots of interesting types of Arts & sales. Great place to visit and no entry charge.
A great place to walk through during a visit to Alexandria. While most of the stuff is out of my price range, there are lots of nice trinkets that could be picked up at a reasonable price for gifts. It is also really fun to see the artisans working on their latest projects in studio!
Wonderful place to experience art and interact with artists.
Great Staff! Amazing View, Killer crab cakes yumm.... This place was on my list of places to visit for weeks. I was not disappointed. The energy here is so tranquil yet lively. I will be back within a week or so from N.Y!
A place that teaches you about the history of the town
Lots of good art, with something here for everyone to enjoy looking at. It is not all to one taste- certainly not to mine, and I feel that the eclectic mixture of styles and media strengthens the place. Some people are doing some fascinating things here.
Lots of great art and some history too. Funky little spot, but don't go too late, many of the places I went to on a Thursday were closed by 6.
Could spend hours here! Great inspiring works...grest vibe
Lots of studios. A chance to interact with artists, explore works in different mediums and find truly one of a kind gifts, in all price ranges. Creatively engaging
Interesting collection of artisans- some quirky and ALL a little snooty. Perhaps they get tired of many many visitors and few buyers. Some of the art had stratospheric prices.
Great museum featuring local artists. Pretty neat artwork. I'd visit again..
Neat place, and you get to interact with the artists.
Cool place to spend a couple hours shopping or just checking out the art.
A nice and unique experience. There are numerous artists of various art forms and their works are for sale. I saw a few items that I liked but most were out of my current price range. I'll likely go back in a few months.
Classic example of gentrification and art market replacing the dying manufacturing. Interesting... I mean very interesting to see and great place to purchase over priced art work but with gentrification some suckers gotta pay for artist to make a fortune and hedge themselves from the inflation by gentrification.
However well maintained and hassle free environment alone should entice your visit and appreciate some art works you won t see otherwise.
Was super-skeptical about it but turned out to be a great place! Be sure to go inside!
Very helpful. Needs more funding to do great archeological work and resturation.
Wish there was more to see, but was a great place to spend an hour or two. Great location, was able to take the metro and walk to several places nearby as well before heading back.
Fun public art building, with interesting studios of artists, some good some bad but all fun to see.
Nice place to see if you're near by but I wouldn't make a trip for just this. However, tge waterfront is nice and there are some close historical sites. If in the area stop in and take a look.
Art and Arts and Colour...A nice package with historical district and food
Great little place to check out local artist and potentially purchase creative pieces.
One day trip to Alexandria! Nice weather and extraordinary people!
Cool place but I'm not really into modern art. I prefer older stuff.
I went here on a double date with my artist friends and we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves.
We admired great art and the artist (Matt Harwood) by far is one of our favorites!
100% FREE and places to walk nearby
Many independent artist studios all in an old factory. Many different mediums to choose from. Many unique items.
Beautiful art in a great environment. Solid way to spend an afternoon with family or friends wandering around and viewing the incredible creativity of the resident artists, many of whom are there and happy to chat.
Not really an art fan, but for anyone who is, the torpedo factory is a gold factory. Also the open floor plan with the floors is pretty cool.
Three floors of absolutely amazing art! The resident artists and their art media and styles are diametrically opposite from each other and just as opposing and unique from floor to floor to floor!
Fun fun place to visit and stroll around. Love that it's a place for local artists. There are often great events hosted at the Torpedo Factory as well. My personal favorite event is the one for Easter... everything rabbits!
I loved the energy and art work at the Torpedo Factory.
wow if you are ever in this area stop and see what they have done
The history of the Torpedo Factory and art galleries now in the building keep us coming back time after time. It is great to speak with the artists on site as well.
An old factory right on the Potomac River that was converted to 3 floors of artist show spaces long ago. There is a variety of different types of art and jewelry being created and sold.
There's an ice cream stall inside if you visit on a hot day. The entire area is surrounded by restaurants. Parking can be a challenge in this area of town, so expect to pay.
Wandered into the building thinking it was mostly museum to be surprised with the art! Several were closed as those artists were reducing the spread. All open shops had signs and hand sanitizer. The building overall required masks. One thing I liked were the stalks had enough space for the artists to work, too. So you could see them into he creating phase. It also seemed like many fo the stalls were run but he artists themselves, so you could have discussions. On the top floor, there is an archeology museum with very knowledgeable and enthusiastic staff. Would definitely go again!
Great place supporting local artists, and the history here is very rich.
