Burgundy Farm Country Day School. If you are interested in knowing something more about different approaches to children education, you have probably read about Montessori and Progressive education. In many parts of the world, -including most of the public USA schools, traditional education is the main way to take kids from early stages through high school.
Burgundy Farm is one of the private schools that uses the Progressive education approach to make children learn.
By just entering the school you realize you are in a different place from regular schools. Most of the area is under the canopies of a forest, and the school takes advantage of it to teach children. Kids are taught to respect nature, the environment but not only from a school classroom but also the daily experience of being in one. Classrooms have big windows to let the forest in. Just being in them provides children with awesome views, colors, flora and fauna. One example of how they work, in Kindergarten, children do not only talk, read and draw about Monarch Butterflies but also see them in the campus and experience the whole transformation process until butterflies fly to southern lands. They do not stop the process there without making children understand the impact of losing butterflies in our fragile life cycle.
This is just one little example of how Burgundy teach children, how they learn, how they create a stronger connection of our future generations with our planet earth.
Creativity is in the whole learning process, from Math to reading, to foreign languages, art, music, P.E., etc. Teachers are very knowledgeable, well prepared, very experienced, in constant training and always searching for better learning ways.
The school also have a campus in West Virginia for Nature and Science investigation to which kids start traveling from first grade. This is a very enriching experience where kids learn more about nature. Just in first grade they start collecting data, making informed inferences, and using the tools and knowledge in a hands-on way on this wonderful campus.
Burgundy also has a barn, where kids learn to interact with animals, how they are beneficial to human beings and get to take care of them and feed them.
Cross learning in most subjects solidifies the knowledge of children and diversity the respect and inclusion of all people of different background and beliefs. Another aspect of Burgundy that I really like is their focus on teamworking, one of the requests in any job offer and in our daily lives. Burgundy nurtures curiosity which is the first step to any learning process.
Burgundy helps build a strong parent community which helps some children's family with low income be part of this school.
I do recommend this school to anyone. It will provide an integral education to you children while having fun at the same time.
