The staff was outstanding. Could not have made me feel more at home. The guest rooms are mixed. The refurbished bathrooms are lovely, and the beds, super comfy. However much of the furniture and carpet were a bit over-worn, tired-looking and could use replacing.

The meeting room in the basement was okay. I think with what they are planning, it will look much better.

The restaurant is quite boring and could definitely use a makeover. The food was hit and miss. I think the chef has definite potential, but needs to work on a couple of dishes to make them showstoppers.

The breakfast room is warm and cozy, albeit a little worn, needing a bit of sprucing up. I was so looking forward to the lobster & egg dish, but was left disappointed and hungry. The lobster was so dry, it was like powder and inedible. Such a shame.

Overall, I think the Vanderbilt has huge potential and I would be happy to send anyone I know there, but with the caviat that there are improvements needed to bring it to the level it could be. I would love to visit again to see how things progress, especially because of the people who work there! They are some of the best hospitality people I've met.

Service and staff were excellent! We brought our dog, and she was treated very well and offered a comfortable bed, biscuit and bowl upon arrival. They went out of their way to ensure we had everything we needed and to make us happy. Staff were very engaging and quick to help before we even asked. The hotel is beautiful in a very central part of town. The rooftop bar has awesome views of the town and harbour.

My only complaint is that the rooms need more closets/dressers. We experienced two different rooms - initially booked the captain's loft but then upgraded to the Admiral One bedroom, which had a full kitchen. Both rooms had minimal clothes storage space and my husband and I quickly ran out of room in the small dresser and closet in the bedroom. Our 4 year old son stayed on the sofa bed, and I had to use the couch table to lay out his clothes for the duration of our stay. Additionally, I didn't use the gym, but my husband said that the machines could be better quality.

But those are minor compaints and we would definitely stay again!

We previously stayed in their master junior suite and were happy with the layout of the room and its size. This hotel does a great job with guest services and we would come stay here again.

After choosing the Grace Vanderbilt because of its guarantee of a wheelchair accessible suite with a roll in shower and after much confirming, I was extremely disappointed and frustrated to learn that I had been gravely misinformed. As a woman with a significant physical disability, traveling is a challenge under the best of circumstances, and although this experience is not necessarily about blame, it is about educating the staff and representatives of all lodging establishments on the specifics of their ADA accessible accommodations, and that a small lip in a shower stall (that was too small) might as well be a mountain for certain individuals.

Very exclusive Captain's Loft Suite. Room service was fast and enjoyable. Breakfast outside was excellent. Rooms are very comfortable And cleaned by the cleaning service twice a day. Pools are nice, but I recommend the one inside. The hotel is within walking distance to Thames street which is where all of the restraunts and stores are. Right in the middle of everything! Staff was above 5 stars. I recommend staying here, as we did for the Jazz Festival 2015. And if you stay, be sure to check out the gym and spa.

We went during the Newport Boat show, so the rooms were expensive. We got a suite as nothing else was available. It was spacious and well-appointed. We enjoyed it. There were many comfortable places to hang out on the ground floor. There was a billiards room and two pools, one indoor and one outdoor. The bar was tucked away behind the restaurant. The selection of gins was excellent and the waitress made me an outstanding Monkey 47 Martini. There was also a rooftop bar which filled up for cocktail hour and had a lively atmosphere. The view was spectacular, although it was a bit windy. We had dinner at the restaurant. It was first rate. We had breakfast on the patio next to the pool. It was a perfect weekend away from New York except the New York prices seemed to have followed us to Newport.

Kostas is an amazing person. My wife and I stayed at the Grace Vanderbilt last year and to this day we discuss his professionalism and exquisite manners. I look forward to seeing him and the Hotel if we come back in the summer.

We enjoyed the hotel, the staff was friendly and very helpful and the food in the resturant was excellent. We had our dog with us on this trip and this is the most dog friendly hotel we ever found. We plan to come back.

A restful haven in Newport. The rooms were comfortable and relaxing, with personal touches that made us feel like welcomed friends. The staff were extremely helpful and accommodating, no matter where we were or what we needed; they were very attentive. Customer Service - a dying trait - is alive and well at the Vanderbilt Grace. The hotel is walking distance to several restaurants, but also serves delicious meals on-site. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and are looking forward to a return trip!

Go to the rooftop for the sunset views, not the drinks... If you want a beverage I'd recommend getting something straight up as the "mixologists" tastes are awful. Having to go to the ground floor for the bathroom is inconvient.

When you spend $1200 on a hotel room and are not told that a hotel is under construction and there is no Valet to park your car to an obscure back lot, that s a problem. When the air conditioning is not functional and the windows do not open, the problem gets exponentially worse. I do not need free champagne or a $100 discount. I need to sleep when I stay at a Relais hotel. It is shabby and beat. Also - all of the online photos are photoshopped and unrealistic. Avoid it.

The hotel exceed our expectations. The location was perfect and most things were accessible by walking. The staff was beyond accommodating and helpful and provided us with an upgrade to a suite without asking as well as a special dessert for my wife on her birthday. The hotel, while old, had outstanding rooms that were very modern, well appointed and spotless. This will definitely be our go to hotel when we visit Newport.

We ordered a mommy to be package, but didn't end up getting anything other then the message. The staff was really nice and tried to make up for it, but for the money I was expecting a better experience.

It needs outside lighting otherwise you can't see your food after 8 p.m. Going Up on the Rooftop is a must! Thank you Elsa and Mariya two wonderful waitresses! The food was very good and nicely presented too bad I could not see it after we put the candles down!

We went to the Grace Vanderbilt for a mixology class on the roof. This was our second time going. Christina does an outstanding job and the whole experience is amazing. The Grace has a beautiful rooftop bar with views of Newport Harbor. Highly recommend going to the Grace.

Experienced the most disappointing visit ever at the Vanderbilt. The hotel began to experience air conditioning problems soon after our arrival. It s understood that mechanical problems do occur, so our primary issue was that the issue was only temporarily resolved until it failed again. Additionally the status communications from the hotel staff were inconsistent and lacked specifics. As guests, we never felt the urgency to resolve the problems as our room stayed a consistently humid 80 degrees our entire stay. To the hotels credit, they did give a minor adjustment to our bill and a free night for a future visit. I believe we would have been much more understanding had there been better communication and staff awareness of the situation at hand.

Nice property and decorated in a tasteful and appropriate way for a Newport visit. Friendly staff all around and also helpful at everypoint. It was a quiet time in Newport between holidays, which meant a bit less lively, but still attentive staff. Personally too pricey, but an extremely comfortable and convenient stay. Would go again.

The stately elegance of the building can't be missed. The staff have so much attention to detail it's almost unnerving but wonderful. I have not recently stayed at a hotel with as much class. Worth at least one night if you are in yhen area.

Loved the boutique hotel feel. Such customization with our stay . loved all the personal touches the staff made . They greeted us each time by name . The restaurant is five star. They upgraded our reservation and had wine for us on arrival. Valet had our car within minutes each time . The room is very clean and bed comfortable ! Will definitely be staying again !

A WONDERFUL ENGLISH TEA!

A WONDERFUL ENGLISH TEA!

My son and I went to The Vanderbilt Grace this weekend for English Tea; previously I had researched to find out the best English Tea in Rhode Island and this was even better than I expected.

The Grace blend tea was the best tea I have ever had. The tea sandwiches, scones, cookies, jams were all delicious!

The service was excellent; our waitress was the best!!!!!!

Every person we came in contact with at The Vanderbilt Grace was extremely considerate and informative.

We will be back!!!! The waitress suggested dinner outside in September; see you then!

Overall, we had an excellent experience at Grace Vanderbilt - Newport. First of all, the service was truly excellent. EVERY MEMBER of staff was professional, courteous and eager to make our stay the best it could be. Second, the food was outstanding. Our breakfast and New Year's Eve dinner were exceptional. We enjoyed a wonderful New Year's Eve celebration with a band and cocktails. Everyone we met was friendly and enjoying the party in the common area of the hotel. It was also a special touch to have the fire in the Elise room burning all night with comfortable chairs and sofas for relaxation. Our car was always available quickly, which enabled us to get around town easily (mansions, Cliffwalk, etc). The only negative was the physical space, in general. The interior needs a professional paint job. The elevator rails and molding have deep scratches and scrapes - the carpets all need to be replaced and the wallpaper is dated. The spa needs a proper seating area as well as updating (furniture, shelving, etc.). Overall, we would stay again if the decorative issues are addressed.

This is one of the finest hotels at which I've stayed. The room and facilities were first rate. But even more impressive was the attentive, friendly and accommodating staff. The best example was lunch one day. We had brought a small dog with us and asked if their outdoor patio was open so the dog could be with us. They went out of their way to set up a table with heaters and even brought over a menu they had for dogs. They were more than helpful with directions and recommendations. An absolutely wonderful experience - we will be going back.

Only stayed for one night but I loved the room I had and the view from the room. I also was able to enjoy the pool by myself, and although the pool is small and not at all deep it was still enjoyable. They also have a whirlpool which was enjoyable but a little on the cold side. I stayed in a two bedroom suite which was plenty of room, and the master bathroom in the suite was amazing with a big tub and a separate shower.

Had a drink on the roof deck at sunset - it was gorgeous! Service was a bit lacking and slow but we were there for the atmosphere. Dinner reservations were fumbled by multiple staff members and was frustrating. BUT once we were seated our waitress (Carly I think, usually a bar tender) took such great care of us and treated us like we were in her home. It was outstanding! There food was tasty and we felt like we had found a hidden gem in Newport! Thanks to Carly for some great service recovery - she turned a potentially disastrous situation into a lovely evening!

We had a great stay here earlier this week. The rooms were much larger than our last visit, prior to the hotel changing hands. Our last visit was in the winter so we couldn't enjoy the roof deck, but were able to dodge the rain and head up there to take in the view. The staff was great, the room very comfortable, location right in the middle of the action.
