The staff was outstanding. Could not have made me feel more at home. The guest rooms are mixed. The refurbished bathrooms are lovely, and the beds, super comfy. However much of the furniture and carpet were a bit over-worn, tired-looking and could use replacing.

The meeting room in the basement was okay. I think with what they are planning, it will look much better.

The restaurant is quite boring and could definitely use a makeover. The food was hit and miss. I think the chef has definite potential, but needs to work on a couple of dishes to make them showstoppers.

The breakfast room is warm and cozy, albeit a little worn, needing a bit of sprucing up. I was so looking forward to the lobster & egg dish, but was left disappointed and hungry. The lobster was so dry, it was like powder and inedible. Such a shame.

Overall, I think the Vanderbilt has huge potential and I would be happy to send anyone I know there, but with the caviat that there are improvements needed to bring it to the level it could be. I would love to visit again to see how things progress, especially because of the people who work there! They are some of the best hospitality people I've met.
