Great museum but good luck leaving. The parking attendant intentionally causes a traffic jam by letting one car go at a time whether you bring your own car or hire an Uber. They won t let you walk yourself off the property either. We had a blast but we waited almost an hour to leave. Won t come back any time soon.

Gorgeous architecture and great selection of pieces from renowned artists. Free besides paying for parking, a must-see if you're in the area. We had a great tour about the architecture I would definitely recommend. Can back up a ton driving to parking on weekends.

Wow! For this museum. For those who loves contemporary art and art from past centuries this is the place.
Its location is magical, sitting atop of the hills gives it a royal feeling, not just because of its beauty, but because of its natural and luxurious layout.
I took my nephew who was born in LA and come for his 21th birthday for the first time; he was just amazed by.
It's a complete adventure taking the train up to the hills toward the museum.
I only have one comment and is not related to this beautiful place, but to the food dispensers; I paid more than $11 for a small dark coffee and a tiny piece of cheese cake.
I believe that food should be more accessible since some visitors may not have too much money with them. This is the only thing I regret about it and I'd never consume any food here, please, readers do not misinterpret my comments about food prices here, because other than that, everything is wonderful!!!

Beautiful art exhibits in the downtown. They have a wide range of different kinds of art with sculptures and canvas from all ages. The entrance was free. This museum is a must see when visiting Los Angeles.

Free admission with beautiful tram ride and a nice view at the top. The museum/gallery was rewarding also.

For a gallery started by a private individual it is very impressive. Gorgeous building in a magnificent location. Gallery felt somewhat sparse at times but was made up for by the garden and the view of the City

Free museum! I took my parents here when they were visiting me in LA. Beautiful architecture and amazing displays of historical art. I love the garden area and the view was amazing! Be there during the evening times 4-5pm so you can watch the beautiful sunset from the top of the mountain! :D

It's $15 to park in their garage, $10 after 3pm. We lost our parking ticket one time and had to go back upstairs to get a new one. I thought they were gonna charge us extra for losing the ticket but they just asked us what time we came in and gave us a new one. Thank goodness!

I love going to The Getty! We probably go five times a year - more when we have out-of-towners with us. We usually take the opportunity to walk up instead of riding the tram since it's a pleasant 20 minute stroll up the hill. We've never been disappointed with any special exhibits. We always have lunch in the cafe - kind of pricey for mediocre fare but there are tons of choices. Take time to have a tea or coffee outside and just people watch.

It has to be one of the most beautiful places to go to in LA. The views, the architecture, the art, and the gardens are all superb. Parking can be expensive during the day (20$), but I'd recommend going after 6pm where it's 10$. If you get lucky and go on a day with clear weather and little smog, the evening view of LA is absolutely beautiful. I recommend taking the architectural tour, which is great background for the Getty. Also try to see the cactus garden in the south of the Getty and the room recreations in the first level of the southwest building (just ask the security or guides if you need help finding something!).

Small warning: Google Maps might give you the directions to the employee entrance. Make sure you take the next exit when travelling northbound on the 405 (it says Getty centre drive or something). That's where guess parking is, and then you take a train up to the Getty. I had a really confusing Uber ride the first time I went because of this.

This is an amazing experience for the architecture, gardens and the art. On the Saturday afternoon I took my high school students, it was busy and crowded. Only one tram was running resulting in a very long line. We decided not to wait and walked up the hill to save time. That was challenging, so maybe not for everyone. The exhibits are varied so everyone found something to be excited about from paintjng, photography and sculpture to antique furniture and elaborate chandeliers. Take time to sit by the fountain, have a coffee and people watch too. Saturday they stay open till 9 and the "after dark" experience is beautiful with lighted water features and twinkling trees.

Went here numerous times for school, even for work, and just because. It is so beautiful and inspiring and it never gets old. The architecture, the gardens, the view, and of course, the art. I also think their exhibits are interesting and go to see one every so often.
Getting here by bus is easy from Wilshire/UCLA, it stops right in front of, I believe the only entrance. I feel like the entrance is always under construction though, but it's no big deal.
A must if you're in LA.

This museum is one of the most beautiful examples of art, function and culture all rolled into one. I attended the Getty and saw the exhibit on Egypt whilst recieving a beautiful lecture by a talented Egyptologist. I enjoyed the day immensely and recommend this place for people looking to escape the hustle and bustle of LA

Open and airy architecture, welcoming docents, wonderful variety of exhibitions. We visited on a Sunday and parked in the lowest level of the structure. The queues for the tram were long so we walked instead - easy incline and breezy on a hot afternoon. Borrow an umbrella if the sun is high. Kids enjoyed the gallery aimed at them and running/rolling through the gardens.

This museum is beautiful inside and out. The gardens and statues are lovely to wander around in. The buildings have beautiful permanent collections. I would go over and over just to see van gogh's irises.
Admission is free, parking is not.

Go for the gardens!!

Go for the gardens!!
The best part were the views from a top and the gardens, they are beautiful and worth the visit.
The museum itself was meh, we saw a couple of rooms and left, we didn t care to see the rest. We spend easily 2.5 hours touring the exterior.
Arrive early to avoid crowds, we left around 1pm and the place was packed.
The tram ride is fun too!

I love this museum and try to visit at least once a month to see what's new or just to say hi to my favorite works of art. The Richard Meier designed buildings are as inspiring as the art plus the views are some of the best in LA County. We've taken every out of town guest who's visited and they've loved the experience. Admission is free but parking is $15. You can always Lyft in and out and public transportation is a short walk. The Getty is big on education and runs internationally acclaimed programs as well as hosting talks, films, and many other programs. Check the website to see what's happening.

Free in Los Angeles is a great thing. If you're able, I would absolutely recommend walking up instead of taking the tram - you get some pretty cool views and a nice leisurely stroll. It's pretty easy to get lost, so I would suggest taking a map with you. Going on a sunny day would probably be best for viewing the architecture, city, and artwork, as some of the artwork is lit partially by skylights which make it less-than-ideally lit on a gray day.

I love the Getty Museum! I always have a lovely time, no matter how often I come. Their art collection is vast and they are constantly switching paintings and galleries, so there is always something new to look forward to. You take a self-guided tour with an iPod filled with interesting facts about the paintings and artists; you can also go on a group tour with a curator, or just wonder around the museum. The garden is very pretty with a wide assortment of flowers so something is always in bloom. There is a sketching room where you can pretend to be an artist (or show off your artistic skills) with various pieces of art to draw. The large windows give you beautiful views of Los Angeles and Santa Monica. Parking is $15 before 5 pm and $10 after, but the museum entry is free. The Metro 761 takes you straight to the museum if you don t want to pay for parking.

I didn t though that so young Museum can be so gorgeous. I ve seen Michelangelo masterpieces, Van Gogh irises (favorite one), amazing Rubens and Manet. There are a lot of space outside to take a walk or just lay on a grass. So this is a great place to spend a day with your family or to be alone for sometime.

Free art, sculpture and photography. Comes with a tram to assist passengers going yo the strep hill. Gerry also offers free listening guides, shapes. Cafes, and free lockers. This is my favorite spot in my visit to Los Angeles.

Must see for anyone visiting or really living in the area! Starting off with the fact that it's free, it's a great hot spot for tourists. You could spend hours at this location regardless of your interest in art. It's great for photographers too! You could walk up or take the tram, and I suggest the tram just from a photography standpoint. They close late on Saturdays, so you could see the sunset. Absolutely stunning regardless of the time of day.

Although I think art is cool, I don't enjoy looking at other people's scribble scrabble and believing that it's amazing. They even tell you, art is how you see it. Well I see it as a scam. I can scribble and pour paint buckets all over a tarp and call it art, maybe you'll see it as something else. But aside from my opinion, I enjoyed The Getty for the many reasons many others did; the outside structure of the actual buildings and the beautiful views of LA. The only thing I realized is that the limestone used to build the actual Getty was far more pretty than any other brick out there . In fact, I want my next house built out of that limestone. Other than that, the artwork means nothing to me. I still enjoyed the experience and the garden setting, and I think you will too. Parking was free. Food and snack booths are available but not so cheap. Take a good camera and go.
