Beautiful zoo situated in the nooks and crannies of the Portland ring forest. It is currently under construction for some renovations, that is the only reason why it got 4 stars out of 5. This zoo has an easy to follow a path that get you through the entire thing. And a clever exit strategy for the kids, a carousel and gift shop at the very end.

Loved that once you step it is like you went into a different part. You are no longer in the city you are in this beautiful green world. They have great cleaning practices. You need to get your tickets reserved ahead of time even if you are a member. There is parking available for $2 an hour. You can use card or coins. Definitely worth the visit. I cannot wait for all their exhibits to be open again!
This was such a great experience for us and our daughter! We come from STL where the zoo is free, big and a little chaotic. This was a good size and everything was really close up and easy to find. The elephant ears were amazing too :)
We had a great experience at the Oregon zoo. There was some construction, but I still felt like we got to see everything that we wanted to. Friendly and helpful staff that was knowledgeable about the zoo. Once the portion of the train ride that goes through Washington Park is open again, will be a five star review for sure!
My family and I had a great time. Unfortunately the Africa Cafe was by far the worst experience. But other than that all the exhibits were awesome and my three-year-old love them.
This is a great zoo, there is sea life and lots of great animals with a great habitat! There were elephants, tigers , bears and much more! However the only reason why i rated 4 stars is that the price is quite expensive but worth it
One of the most beautiful zoos I have been to. Make sure to stop by the elephant exhibit you can pack a lunch and sit on the lawn and watch the elephants have fun
We were there on Christmas Eve day, so a lot of the exhibits were closed. But the ones that were open were very nice. The otters were a lot of fun. The zoo really feels part of its surroundings.
I'm not a fan of zoos. At all. 3 stars because me and my girlfriend enjoyed one another's company. The animals seemed sad, I wish could have put on my red cape and set them free into a wilderness that is rapidly being taken over by humanity. So in conclusion I guess the animals aren't doing so bad after all. For that 4 stars, the Oregon zoo is full of staff that I believe trully care.
Had a great time with my daughter for her 1st Birthday. Very clean and animals were very active. I do miss the polar bears they had awhile ago but loved the elephants.
We absolutely love the zoo! I was very disappointed in my recent visit because it feels like half the zoo animals are gone. They're doing a lot of construction and I think they're doing too much at once. There was very little to see for a whole lot of walking down one Trail. My son was very disappointed that he didn't get to see his favorite animals. And it looks like from their signs that these animals won't be back for a long long time.
I'm sure it's going to be amazing once their renovations are all finished. I loved their elephant exhibits and all they have done for helping elephants. They have an entire building that you can see them inside and learn about the zoos history with elephants which I loved. The animals all seem pretty happy with their life, as I've been to some zoos where the animals pace back and forth with no life in their eyes. This zoo was not the case
Very lame. So many closed exhibits. No descent food. Nearly raw hamburger at Africa restaurant...and sooooo expensive. Feel like asking for my money back.
I always love coming to this zoo with my wife and kids, but finding parking can be very difficult at times, and even impossible once.(we had to go home with two very disappointed kiddos!) The animals are all in wonderful condition and very happy. Seeing how much of the zoo railroad tracks that have been taken out of the loop is very sad. I never got to go ride the whole line before it got shrunken to just by the animals. And as an additional bonus, you have the children's museum right next door to the zoo!!
I took my 4 month old daughter to the zoo and she was hungry so I found a secluded place to nurse her, as she was distracted by loud noises. A zoo employee approached me and told me I could not do that there. The only "nursing area" is inside a very dirty, very noisy bathroom. The Oregon zoo is not breastfeeding friendly!
It was pouring rain the whole time we were there at Christmas, but it was still an amazing place to visit. I would love to go back during better weather.
Decent food to eat, prices are okay, it's a beautiful zoo but far too spread out. We had our three year old and she did okay but we weren't there very long and didnt stop to see all the animals.
This was my first time coming to this zoo. It was amazing. The kids loved it. They let you bring in food so we had lunch in front with the elephants it was nice. My son loved the little train ride.
Good time but some exibits were closed. That wouldn't have been a problem if there was something telling you which ones were closed before you walked all the way to them with children excited seeing them.
The best part of the zoo is the first part of the trail that keeps all exhibits local to the Pacific Northwest. They've kept it wild to the greatest extent possible and it feels unique to Oregon with up and down trails through heavily wooded forest. The remainder of the zoo is pretty typical for a zoo, much like the National Zoo in Washington, D.C. and the Denver Zoo.
Very fun! We came on the adults only night and it was delightful. Saw a surprising number of animals considering it was raining. Missed out on most of the African exhibit.
They seem to give more space for their animals (and make the space more natural) than some other zoos I've been to, which is nice. You can walk right into the eagle enclosure, too!
Lots of fun and I'll definitely be back after they finish construction.
What's there not to like about this zoo in the middle of the City of Portland? Situated in the west hills right off the Portland downtown area, it is a wonderful place to take children and adults alike. The enclosures for the animals are roomy, made to simulate the natural habitat of the various creatures, and are well taken care of. We love the outdoor theater where they have various shows and entertainment. The Zoo train is a must any day of the year, but especially in December during the holiday season - go at night for a magical trip, especially if there is snow on the ground, which we sadly don't often have during the holiday season.
You can eat at the zoo, and buy mementos at the zoo store. MAX, light rail, has a stop at the zoo in the tunnel that is the second deepest for light rail/subways in the world. On busy days this might be your best option to visit the zoo; use a TriMet Park & Ride and then hop on MAX.
The Oregon Zoo offers a lot of education to their visitors and to school classes that come to visit. It is a place to appreciate the amazing animals that are cared for both humanely and lovingly.
Among our family favorites: the Lorikeets. They are beautiful birds that you can feed from a tiny cup of fruit juice that you buy for a few cent ($.25 last we did it). They are lovely birds and a blast to be around if you are a bird person. In the warmer summer months you go into a large outdoor area that has been blocked off with screens so the birds can fly freely in an area the size of a school gymnasium. They will land on your shoulders, arms and hands - it is a lot of fun.
This is a great zoo! It has a great flow to the layout. The staff were very informative and really seem to care about the animals. I would highly recommend this zoo for a family activity and just for a fun way to spend a day.
Excellent day trip location. Lots of wonderful animals and animal education. Animals have lots of room and seem well cared for. Great eats on site with spacious outdoor seating.
I've been to plenty of zoos and so far this one was the most beautiful and well maintained. The animals had large, clean enclosures, but they were still easy to spot and watch from a distance. Animals were also extremely active and eager to explore. There was a lot of great information about each animal as well. The staff were friendly and happy to explain specific animals and very helpful.
The entire zoo is green with plenty of shade, food, and things to buy. The Oregon Zoo is a great place to take children. Overall a wonderful place to explore!
What can you say about the zoo? The animals and the stroll through the park made me fascinated like a kid again. The concert series over the summer you have to check out.
The Oregon Zoo is a place I would definitely recommend if you are a local or just visiting. They have plenty to do and see plus they are currently in the process of making new exhibits for some of there animals. The Oregon Zoo makes for a great family trip. They also serve wine and beer for adults just an FYI they also serve special Zoo only beer that is made from a local brewery that helps support animals and rescues pretty cool. Also they have concerts at the Zoo which is also an awesome experience as well check the website for upcoming events you won t be disappointed at the Oregon Zoo.
There were no animals, ok very few...I was disappointed. Maybe we came at a bad time were they are doing many renovations. But a lot of the animals were not in. They should have advertised that and discounted the price. Seemed like it would have been a nice zoo if the animals were in.
We love the zoo and have a membership because we go frequently enough to make it worth it. They are always adding on and that always peaks excitement and curiosity for whats to come.
