A beautiful gallery that managed to keep me silent for a good couple of hours. A great affordable gift shop too. Not overpriced like most of them are. We visited the sorolla exhibit whilst we were here and would definitely return to see other parts of the gallery.

London has so many wonderful donation admission options for art and culture and the National Gallery is certainly a must-go. From famous Van Gogh s to unfinished Michelangelo s and classic Botticelli s - the National Gallery is a stunning and perfectly laid out space to spend an afternoon on Trafalgar Square. Love this place!

I was surprised that the NG did not balance the exhibition with a mention of the racism, rape, land grabs & extermination going on at the time that the uninvited Europeans were enjoying their artistic frolics in France etc.

PLEASE NOTE THE HORRIFIC TASMANIAN GENOCIDE BY EUROPEANS

For 10,000 years the population of the island of Tasmania lived in complete isolation from the rest of humanity. In 1803 the government of Britain began to settle Australia with criminals. 73 years later the last Tasmanian died. This completed the total annihilation of the residents of Tasmania 6,000 in total, by the Australian settlers.

If you are interested in art, this is the right place for you. You can fall in love with the best paintings of ever, from the romanticist periond, to the reinassiment one.
But what you can't lose is "The chair" by Van Gogh, problably my favourite paint in the Gallery.

A great place to spend the whole day there. Entrance is free. Is good to rent the audio guide as it will provide much more information/story than the description besides the paintings. There is a cafe in the gallery but the food is average. Better to pack some food there.

Definitely worth coming to! I stumbled upon this museum and decided to check it out. Really well worth it with art from very famous artists from the impressionist movement all the way back to the Renaissance. Not to mention this place is free! Definitely check this gallery out because the area on Friday had free street entertainment! I saw break dancers, violinist and chalk art! Go!:) Also the national portrait museum is around the corner. Also free :)

What a mind blowing experience at one of the world's most wonderful galleries. Getting to see some of the best paintings ever so closely left me humbled and inspired. You will need more than a day to explore so much this gallery has to offer so plan your trip before you go. Staff will help you and signs clearly mark out where you are going. Free entry is a breath of fresh air but a donation is always a good way to show your support.

Completely free entry with easy access. Massive collection of different media and genres of arts. Monet and Van Gough collection currently showing (august 2013). Michael Landy collection one of the most bizarre (and interactive) things i've seen in a gallery. Definately something to visit whilst in London, especially if not a budget. Allow a couple of hours for your visit.

Surely one of the most important gallery in the world. The palace is really big and there are lots of pictures and monuments. Needs a lot of time to be visited well. Who visits London must go in this wonderful place.

I can't say much that hasn't already been said but this is like the mecca of the city of London. It reminded me of Times Square but no billboards. We arrived on a Friday afternoon to a gazillion people everywhere. People hanging on the fountain, you could not escape! It is an extremely busy square with lots of traffic too, but it is rather exhilarating being in this frenzy. Don't miss taking pictures of the fountain with Antero on top. There are also street performers but at the time we arrived, they must have been on break as I only saw one. Definitely a people watching spot with all kinds of unique and culturally diverse individuals. Crossing the street was a challenge but not a stop to be missed! This is London!

I wandered into The National Gallery to escape the rain, and after just an hour in, it quickly became my favorite museum in London. There are so many amazing works in this museum.

The most popular wing is on the second floor and is incredibly crowded on weekends for good reason. There you ll find well loved pieces by Monet, Van Gogh, Cezanne, and more.

I don t claim to know anything about art, but there s just something wonderful about The National Gallery. Even if you re not a fan of art, you might appreciate the fantastic architecture within each room of the museum.

And did I mention it s free? You can t beat it.

We are visiting from the states and found all the museums in London to be spectacular. Well worth the time, and for free (or minimal suggested donation) it's easy to blast through all of them on a short trip to hit the highlights

(Free entrance)For a little bit of art in your life, you can check out the National Gallery which sits right behind Trafalgar Square. Then just up the street, you'll find the National Portrait Gallery, which houses a collection of portraits of historical and famous British people.Housing masterpieces by painters including van Gogh, Renoir, da Vinci and Michelangelo, the National Gallery is home to one of the world s most impressive art collections, and sees over six million visitors every year. Avoid the hordes by visiting on weekday mornings or Friday evenings. Whatever time you go, the permanent collections are always free.

This is one of the best art museums in London with some incredible masterpieces. It's really centrally located so if you're not a big art lover but would like to pop in there is a lot to do in the area around it also.

I'm not into art, and I was dragged to go by the girlfriend, but I thought it was amazing. They have some of the most famous pieces of art in the world, including some of Vincent Van Gogh's most famous work. Best of all it's free, and there are no armed guards, no bullet proof glass, just a small rope like you get a nightclub - that is it. You could touch the paintings if you really wanted to. You are that close. AMAZING.

Great
