The new MOMA. Wonderful exhibits of modern art set in a beautiful facility. A New York City Treasure. Go and enjoy.
Most of the people visit this place to get a selfie with the starring night. I got a selfie with all that people.
You d be happy to see a lot of great art works at this wonderful museum!!
A huge amount of impressive art to see from some of the most famous artists. Van Gogh Starry Night is a real highlight. The audio guide brings it all to life as well!
The MOMA is great. I checked out the art and the "is fashion modern" exhibit. I think some people got in for free on Friday thanks to Uniqlo. Check out my awesome pictures and check out the museum for yourself.
There are a lot of stewards standing around the exhibit. They always direct you to the exits or bathroom with the utmost aplomb.
The coat check is a little annoying because I like to keep my everyday carry backpack with me at all times, but there system is at least pretty robust.
There's a cute cafe and gift shop with overpriced stuff, so if you're into that kind of thing knock yourself out, but I'll continue to use Amazon for most of my shopping.
The museum can be hard to navigate. It's kind of a labyrinth. So make sure to pick up a map. They are available in all sorts of different languages at the help kiosks.
Also starry night is here. Super clutch painting to snag a selfie with. Show all your friends how down to earth you are with a super famous painting photo!!
Also check out the really neat giant spider sculpture and the Stella shift dress (#83 in the is fashion modern exhibit) made out of recombinant spider silk.
It was great. Start on I'm 5 then work your way around if you haven't seen the classics
I'm not that much of an art enthusiast, but it was neat. Kind of expensive though. Whether the entry fee is worth it really just depends on whether you like art or not.
The building is beautiful, and some of the art is marvelous. Some do not touch me at all. But it is worth going there from time to time as my opinion changes.
I'm not a fan of modern art, but MoMA has a nice combination of classic artists with the more ridiculous artists. (Sorry, but it has to be said). While one exhibit will make you scratch your head, you can move on to another exhibit that will just have you speechless.
Sort of expensive admission but try to get there on a night where it's free so you can spend more money at the amazing gift shop(s).
Great place filled with such an artpieces. Highly recommend. I enjoyed this place so much.
Starting at the top and working your way down lets you see the history of modern art and put more contemporary artists in better context.
I adore museums, and this is one of the best I've ever been to. They were in the middle of renovations when we visited so space was a bit reduced, but I cannot wait to go back when more of the collection is on display.
A recommendation: visit with a fully charged phone, because you can visit use it to access the audio tour and descriptions of various works using MoMA's website.
I know it can be hard to swallow, but Free Friday Nights are way too crowded for people to enjoy art. Even if you're good with looking at Starry Night with 100 other people at the same time, the noise level makes it difficult to actually appreciate anything. Thus, if you have some spare change, just pay for the ticket, it's honestly worth your money.
If you love art, an absolutly must visit place.
If you want to see it fully you may have to visit this place more than once.
Seeing renowned works of art up close was an exciting experience. We went on a Saturday morning. It was a bit crowded but we were able to walk through at our own pace and observe everything we wanted to see.
Always lovely and well organized, not too sprawling and easy to navigate.
Amazing experience world famous paintings to be found here!
If you never been in MoMA in New York, next time give yourself about 2 hours to visit this wonderful museum. It's rather small and you can walk through most of it without the need to make it a special event. On the other side, you can spend the entire day here. Collection is peppered with art pieces from Dali, Van Gogh, Picasso and other heavy hitters. Temp exhibits will always surprise you. Huge advantage is new charging area for the phones and tablets. Free high speed WiFi helps to sit down and learn about the artists you just saw on display. Nice restaurant and coffee shop have nice food selection and service is great, considering number of people coming through every day. Modern sculptures, design, photo and video exhibits. Take your family and friends and enjoy.
Definitely a cool Museum kind of got bored after a while. $4 for a bag of chips seems a little unreasonable however it was a decent size bag enough to share with another person they definitely need to dust the helicopter they have hanging from the ceiling that thing is filthy the sculpture garden was pretty neat some cool pieces of artwork how they're definitely worth checking it out
Always a great experience with excellent exhibitions and variety in content.
Overpriced, under staffed with unimpressive displays. Don't bother with the cafe, though soup is good, I ordered salmon which came as 3 spoons sized mouthfulls as a main.
Such a beautiful ly designed space with artifacts of Frank Lloyd Wright NOW. The permanent collection of masters is stunning. Gift shop choices temp each visitor. Crowded yet space works well.
Bear in mind that on Friday MoMa is free after 4pm while normal admission is 25 USD. Greatest museum of New York City. "The Starry Night" of Vincent Van Gogh is the biggest icon in their collection.
One of my favorite places during my visit. A must watch, besides, around the corner you will find one of the best pizzas in NYC!
Very nice collection of art from the last 150 years. Some very famous artists as well as some newer ones.
Great place to look around but it is pricey. So I suggest u to go there 1-2 hr before it closes. So u can get discount. Plus if u r student u can get an additional discount.
Amazing place and so much history not only to read but see
Too many damn floors but I liked the art for the most part
Put more modern pieces though
I loved the 1800s floor, but was otherwise pretty underwhelmed by the Fashion installation (I'm pretty open to modern art but... a white t-shirt is an art piece? come on.), and the other floors werent memorable. the area on photography was half nudes from the 70s.
So glad I came here. Will open your eyes to art in such an incredible way.
The good design exhibit is exceptional. Good design is so often overlooked. It's fantastic that it has an exhibit to itself.
Took my daughter for her first visit. She was so moved by the art..she cried...Masters in Manhattan.
What is not to love, first floor american history themed great items, special exhibits always great
This was my second visit and the art was great, but the staff were super rude when we got there about student IDs from out of state
I simply enjoy The Museum of Modern Art, an absolutely phenomenal experience! I ve been there a couple of times, and they always have new work displayed, which makes it a different experience every time that I visit. I enjoy every piece of art, loosing track of time as I observe some of the most amazing art (Picasso, Magritte, Kahlo among others) as if it is my first time. They have a coat check room which makes it accessible in case you re visiting NY and have done shopping. Full-time students at some of the colleges (search in MoMA website for the list) have a good opportunity to visit at a free admission entry. Definitely worth a visit!
The exhibitions were great, especially permanent one. Some of the most important works of modern art are exhibited there so it's a must see if you appreciate art. The building and especially the patio are beautiful and you can buy some really nice souvenirs in the museum shop.
One of my favorite places in the city by far! Such amazing works of art. This is a total must.
Huge collection of amazing and really popular art pieces.
Interesting exhibits, especially Cityscapes. More white space around and between works of art than most museums I've been to. Special exhibitions more interesting than what was displayed from their permanent collection
The fifth floor has some truly amazing masterpieces. the other floors were interesting. Not necessarily my cup of tea but everyone's different.
Free until the end of September 2020. Reserve a ticket online. Barely anyone right now. Coffee shop not open. Museum stores are open. So wonderful to see amazing galleries and such an amount of collections. I feel rejuvenated and inspired.
New installation at MOMA is worth seeing, but I preferred the previous incarnations.
Very large galleries and a great number of artworks from renown artists like Van Gogh, Frida Kalo, Picasso, and much more.
I've been here several times, but it was too crowded this time to even get close to the most popular paintings. By lunch time around noonish, and left 2.5 hrs later. By then, there was a line of about 150 yds outside. While the museum is excellent, avoid at a rainy day and probably also during school vacations in Europe (it's been the 2-3 week Easter vacation time). Also, prepare for lines and substantial wait times at any of the eateries/cafes in the museum. The prices are rather hefty. For instance, a regular cappuccino costs $6.00. Rather bring your own snacks.
Six floors, takes maybe 45min per floor, if you're interested. Not all is as good. Some great pieces from world famous artist of modern art, such as Van Gogh. Also a lot of contemporary art, which I don't care as much for.
Great museum, I think one of my favourites in NYC! Great location, interesting collection and temporary exhibitions.
MoMA is pretty worth to visit as you could only see Starry Night of Vincent Van Gogh!!
One of the Absolute best museum in the world. Must go. Huge variety of masterpieces you can take a look.
I went there after renewal, Oct 2019.
So many works to watch and need a whole day, at least 4-5 hours.
Can borrow audio guide and it helps a lot.
But without it, you can enjoy.
The collection, permanent as well as temporary is top class. The UNIQLO free Friday is a boon for a lot of students like me, although it was quite crowded but overall for the deal it's definitely worth going
If you love modern art, you cannot go wrong by visiting this place. The complimentary access to PS1 will keep you busy for at least a whole day. Just keep in mind that the museum can get quite crowded with tourists and there is construction going on nearby which can get really loud.
It's always difficult to judge the modern art. However, besides what are now universally recognized as mastepieces, at MoMA you can find works that leave yo doubtful, to be polite. A completely blank canvass or a newspaper snippet are exposed together with Van Gogh's "Starry Night" or Picasso's "Three Musicians Fontainebleau", just to name two.
Of course, everybody will give his/her own judgment, but It is such a striking contrast; I imagine I can go to a Brico center or to a kiosk, buy a canvass and a newspaper, and then sit side by side to some of the greates artists of recent times.
Heavenly for me. We entered after a bicycle tour through park and gyros on the steps. Ginormous arrangements of hydrangeas drew the eyes up from the marble desk as the sound of an orchestra in the balcony drifted down. The artwork and artifacts that followed made for an immensely memorable time. Most impressive to me was the gift shop. Another remarkable collection as I was able to purchase some beautiful coffee table books of exhibits I had missed and souvenirs that mean so much.
To be clear, I am reviewing the experience, not the art.
That said, I had an awful experience which would make me seriously reconsider coming back to this place.
First of all, the signage and directions are really bad. Nowhere is there a clear indication of what you can see on each floor, you have to constantly guess and infer.
Secondly, you get asked to show your ticket every time you go into the galleries. So, if you spend a few hours there and misplace your ticket, even if, like me, you have bags of MoMA shopping which clearly indicate you were able to enter to begin with, you're not going to be allowed up again. This is never stayed anywhere for you to know.
Thirdly, you are not allowed to carry water or drinks with you outside the cafe. You have to drink them inside the cafe area. This is, again, never clearly signalled anywhere. I learned this because, on my way down to the garden with my recently purchased $4 water bottle in hand, an extremely rude security guard started saying the words 'what are you carrying in your hand? Can I see what you're carrying?', as if I was carrying an AK47. After I naively said 'water', he proceeded to tell me, in a somehow more rude tone, that I can't drink that there and that if I want to drink it, I'd better get back in the cafe area...I threw the bottle in the trash and anger and just left. I struggle to recall a time when I had been treated that badly by staff anywhere.
Last, but not least, and related to 3, it is massively overpriced. Deserts in the sit down cafe are $9. Bottled water is $3-4. Postcards are $1.75 each. A tote bag is $36. And the entry fee is $25, presumably to include the bad service. While i could afford to pay those prices, I find them ridiculous.
This is not an open and friendly museum to ex pose people to art. It is an entitled and snobbish one, where you are overcharged for the privilege of viewing art and are allowed limited freedom throughout your tour.
The Tate Modern in London is miles better. I will not be returning soon
An absolute treasure filled with absolute treasures! Very well organized and maintained, there were many people in attendance but it never felt crowded.
I dont consider myself a modern art enthusiast, but a tour here was the absolute highlight of my last trip to nyc. The museum gets pretty busy during the day, but if you go early it's not bad. If you can get one of the before-hours tours, it's worth every penny of the $80 is cost (which also covers your $25 ticket for the rest of the day here and at other MoMA collaborations).
The guides, curators, and even security are very knowledgeable and polite (as long as you dont touch anything).
I dont think I need to say it here, but the museum's collections are absolutely breathtaking, even to those who have little patience for art. Seeing pieces like Persistence of Memory and Stary Night in person is surreal and humbling.
A great history of the change from realistic styles through to impressionism, pointillism, surrealism and then abstraction. Van Gogh, Monet, Miro, etc, all on one floor! How amazing the start of the 1900s...
Went to 3 other museums this day. It's just my taste or lack of it but I only liked one thing here. What really turned me off were the employees, other museum employees were super great, here, many of them acted with an arrogance that made me feel second class, especially from a guy with big hair at the member bag check area. It was unfortunate.
Absolutely stunning display of artwork really puts you into a mindset of respecting the creators and thinkers of our abstract world. Its amazing the detail put into such a museum. The only thing i can add is that the security could be amped up for holding such items as the starry night.
Exactly what you'd expect from a modern art museum. Wonderful collection. Being able to get that close so some of the most recognizable paintings in existence is awesome
Must go to when visiting NYC, and even when you live here. There is only one MOMA.
I went to this place on Monday afternoon with my partner, for the entry ticket it charges $25/each and we can get a free audio device, by providing our ID card. Not many piece of art comes with audio information, but it worth it to get the audio device to tell some history of the arts.
It is a big building, about 6 floors. I am impressed by the modern architectures section, where showing Japanese modern buildings and houses designs.
And it also has a famous painting by Vincent Van Gogh, the Starry Night, which really impressive to experience it.
But even i went there on Monday afternoon the place still so busy. It is difficult for me, personally to enjoy the arts in a busy atmosphere where people are taking pictures in front of me not just one but people were queuing to take turn.
And There were 2 art sections closed unfortunately.
An amazing museum, I would definitely recommend to everyone.
It was fantastic, well organized and we got in free, " free Fridays" after 5:30 pm.
Amazing! Be sure to stop by and see the different exhibitions. Totally surprised by the new exhibits!
The layout is confusing... But, hey, there was a giant metal spider, so what's not to love? Van Gogh is always nice to see.
Awesome architectural exhibits right now and a really beautiful building
Very modern in design. Exhibits are well spaced out and good flow of people. Worth a visit.
Not an art connoisseur so was surprised I had such a great time. Some paintings are simply beautiful. Lots of picasso. Expect to see more than just bananas duct taped to walls. The lobby has a gallery opened to public for free exhibiting works from contemporary artists.
It was a chance to things you only read of. Absolutley, amazing.
Loved the place. Spent more than half a day. And yet had to hurry. Liked the gift shop as well.
Impressive collection, even if some classics like Warhol's soup cans and Lichtenstein's drowning girl are somehow not on display
So much to see! I was lucky to accompany my daughter on her Kindergarten school trip. Some sections were kid-friendly, some were only for adults. We had a tour guide and it was so great that he explained some of Diego Rivera drawings and spoke to the children so that they can understand and have them thinking. Definitely coming back to explore more!
magnificent collections. but please start on the 5th floor then work your way around to everywhere else. wish someon had told me this
So, I had the most amazing experience with all of the staff at MoMA, from the initial staff person from when you enter the building, to the coat check staff, to the serving staff in Cafe 2 to the staff at the art lab in the education building - to a tee, they were wonderful, sweet, and helpful! The actual collection of art is beyond reproach; and the staff were worthy of a world-class institution. World class customer service is not what you expect from a place that hosts a timeless and priceless world-class art collection. You'd expect them to be a little haughty and full of themselves and rude. They were not at all. It made all the difference in our visit! My daughter had the most wonderful time, and it was the staff that made the difference.
One of the best modern and contemporary art museums in the world. The building itself is one of the highlights and the outside garden patio is a must for a moment of relax and to watch people. One of my top activities related to MoMA though is its gift shop and the design store (this one across the street). I wish I could buy everything in the design store lol... but stuff is unfortunately expensive there.
MoMA is the mother of all modern art museums. Managed to keep my teenage daughter fully engrossed for over give hours (five minutes is her usual limit). Some of the exhibits are just awe inspiring such as the waterlillies or starry night. Some are thought provoking.
It's a great museum.
There are so many works, so I 've been for 6 hours.
And the cafeteria was good in sides of the taste, price and clean.
Oh, the works of art that you will see here! This is truly a not to miss Museum , absolutely world class.
Absolutely beautiful works! And organized really well
Of course I loved it, and can t wait to get back. I also am excited to visit when the renovations are finished. There is so much iconic art here. Make sure you see Christina s World and the Francis Bacon! I got there on the last day of the Charles White retrospective and I feel lucky I experienced it. What a body of work! Next time I ll see Starry Night, because my kid made me promise to wait till she could go..
Went on a Friday night forgetting that it was free Friday s ... if you actually like art, don t even bother trying to go on a Friday as you will not see anything!
Amazing paintings and an extra ordinary building if you are into architecture
Quite simply one of the greatest museums in the world...
Amazing museum with room after room full of paintings and sculpture that will blow your mind. One could easily spend an entire day here and never get bored due to the visual stimulation. Staff are friendly and helpful. Tickets are a bit pricey but if you are an art lover then it is well worth it.
Great museum, worth the time and price, I recommend go any day but the free day
Incredible collection of modern art. The museum store isn't too bad either; I never leave without buying a cool gadget.
If you want spend good time don't forget visit MoMA
