One of the best museums of New York City. The exhibits are quite impressive especially if you like modern art. You can find a permanent exhibition as well as special exhibitions which very every now and then.
There is so much to see so take your time and enjoy each flow.
One comment is that there is quite a lot of performance art so if you are not into it you kind of skip it.

Amazing museum that gives the opportunity to stare some of the most important piece of art in the world like the Van Gogh's painting for example. Never seen anywhere a museum which this much creativity and variety. Very much appreciated.
Love the art, great Modern exhibits - recent shows have been Picasso, Wright, Rauschenberg - but very crowded. Very popular with tourists. Cafe is interesting, but not the most comfortable. The restaurant might be better...
Fabulous!!! If you really want to give some attencion do the paintings don't go on the free entrance day, better pay for the ticket on any other day and have the time and a the space to enjoy the museum!
I only wish I could have attended the Henri Matisse: The Cut-Outs exhibition... MoMA is at the cutting edge of the cut-out world and has championed the form. The Museum of Modern Art in New York comes highly recommended. A must-see place!
World class art museum with the best of the best. Where else could one see Vincent van Gogh's masterpiece, Starry Night? The one problem is that everybody else knows about it too, so visit really early if you want to avoid the claustrophobia of huge crowds impeding your preception of great art
Even though I don't always care for all the art of display here it is easily the best curated museum in NYC. There's a ton of diversity and all the rooms and floors flow together incredibly
The place is cool, but when I went there two floors were closed and nobody at the tickets office said nothing about it. I paid a full ticket for half of the museum.
First things first: I am talking about the organization and the way everything is handled in the MoMA - it s not about the art.
Positive things:
on Fridays , you can get free admission by UNIQLO between 4 and 8pm. Be there early or show up around 6pm since the queue is the shortest then.
As a student, you only pay 14$ with a valid student ID which shows that you are a full-time student. However, I wasn t even checked on my ID. It s just written on the website.
Now already the negative aspects:
It is insane how bad you can manage such a museum concerning the mass of visitors. It s not about the experience of art in the wonderful atmosphere of the MoMA. I guess nowadays it s more about the money-making business of the museum.
I entered around 10ish in the morning and after approximately half an hour later I could barely move anymore without bumping into other people. I would highly recommend the supervisors of the museum to set a maximum amount of visitors each hour or so.
Secondly, in my opinion it s about the art and the idea of spreading the educational background of this all in here. Not about taking pictures like crazy, standing in front of the painting and sculptures and block the view for other visitors just to post your stay at MoMA on your social media.
Thirdly, it s a security issue to let that many people in the museum. Even though they check you bags. It s not as rigorous as it is supposed to be.
It was a dream come true. Great experience. Really enjoyed it even though it was too crowded on new year's eve. One of the three members of the staff that we ask for directions was not very informed.
Their collection was much smaller than I had expected, with only two of the six floors actually holding art. The first three floors were essentially empty, and the sixth floor was closed. Despite this, the fifth floor which holds their permanent collection was still quite impressive. Frankly, I find it difficulty to give a gallery that holds Starry Night a rating any lower.
A bit packed, but the MOMA never disappoints. If you're willing to brave the crowds, Friday afternoons are FREE from 4 to 8 PM. I've been here a few times before, and came on a weekend with some friends recently. I'm always impressed by the thought-provoking work that's offered here, as well as the incredible breadth and diversity; one exhibit featured a Congolese artist who sought to capture the colorful nature of the Art Deco architecture in his hometown in Congo, while the more traditional offerings included works by Warhol, Rothko, Kandinsky, Pollock and other familiar names. This museum could easily fill 3 to 4 hours of your time if you've never been before, and offers multiple floors of exhibits. The enclosed courtyard, with its fountains, trees, sculptures and calm atmosphere is worth a look and is great way to stop and chill out (if you can get an empty seat).
Engaging exhibitions, including a recent one that involved serving visitors vegetable curry over rice. The admission ticket also gives you access to their film screenings of the day (pick up your film ticket early as popular screenings do tend to sell out).
First time going to the MoMA and as lover of "classical" art, I really was ready to not understand modern art. I got there before the crowds and I was able to take my time going through the exhibits and it's like my eyes were opened. Art in whatever shape form or era will speak to you if you try and look at it with an open mind, a willingness to understand and accept. A whole world of art was opened to me that day. Thank you MoMA
Sunjected to others obsession w body parts or confused minds.I was right Not to want to go but my friend insisted. Not my style ... and I don't care to be
Do I even need to review this place? I ve been a member for years. It s the easiest purchase to make. I return again and again and again. Great collections, wonderful restaurants and cafes, kind and knowledgeable staff.
A collection of artists work from all around the world. Start in the fifth floor to view the display of Monet. Henri Rousseau, Picasso and many others. Move up one floor for more modern work and stroll in their boutique to take your souvenir.
Fantastic exhibits. You can buy your tickets online and skip the lineup at the museum. I feel like there could be even more, when we visited it seems like some areas were closed off.
The museum of Modern Art is a big museum with many paintings. We went here because of the Van Gogh star night. The museum has on Friday evening from 17:00 free entrance, which is a great way, if you don't want to pay too much for this museum and just want to have a quick look at some of their works. Be carefully though, as the entrance is on one side.
Really nice museum with great pieces of art and very organized. My only disappointment was the very rude security lady on 5th floor in "The John Hay And Betsey Whitney Gallery".
The MOMA will not benefit from my review. The MOMA is a cultural and historic icon of NYC and it doesn't make sense to have people review this... it is the most wonderful place for modern art, and has all the famous works from Picasso, Van Gogh, Warhol.. and gives a voice to so many new emerging artists. I am very sad they redid the Monet water lilies room, , but always love my visit.
I frequent here often, every time they open up a new exhibit, and every time I'm always so happy. The staff is always kind and helpful, the artwork always beautiful. (Great date spot btw!)
I'm confused as to how 90% of everything in this museum could be considered art? I feel like my intelligence was insulted by visiting this place. Also, the security is rude, and just as pretentious as the million dollar art piece that is just a box.
One of the best places to be in NYC. Great collections and a vibrant feel that makes you feel connected to its art. It can get VERY crowded, though. Be sure to prepare your spirit, take a deep breath and enjoy!
I can't say it enough the moment speaks for itself the breadth and depth of work that is there it's quite inspiring it's a great place to view Modern Art there's a lot of works that are available to you to view it can get crowded so that can be a deterrent but if you go early you'll get some great chances to see a lot of work it is a commitment so I would start out early in the day have lunch there and then continue in the afternoon as there's so much to see you do want to do most of it and that would give you money is worth but it is in a central part of looking at wonderful Modern Art and there's no better way to see it than upfront and person so book a day and have some fun because if you like Modern Art this is the exact experience you want
I visited during the video game exhibition and it was really awesome seeing all these classic video games being displayed in one of the best art museums in the country and maybe even the world. The architecture exhibit was also pretty cool, also the overall architecture and design of the building is worth paying some special attention to. I especially enjoyed seeing the classic Monet painting that the museum is famous for as well as the cafe which had actually decent food. Overall, this is a must-see for any visit to New York.
MoMA not only has great permanent art collections that I always love to visit such as Van Gough's Starry Nights, Monet, Warhol, Matisse and much more. It also keep up with new exhibition that's why we always come back to visit again and again. And it seems like they keep expanding all the times.
Fantastic. Starry night is probably the most recognized work at the MoMa but there is so much more to see. The temporary exhibits were engaging and entertaining.
Amazing experience, my favorite artist Van Gogh - The starry night. The architecture make you see each space the museum. Very clean, but the noise disturb a lot. But the art can save you.
The museum has an excellent and diverse collection of modern art. The only other comparable collection in the US is in Chicago Art Institute. You don t have to love modern art in order to appreciate the collection. It is still enjoyable and educational.
Avoid Free Friday s if you want to truly enjoy the huge collections of modern and contemporary art collections this museum has. unless you really value free things above all in life....
One of my favorite museums in the world. If you've ever studied art in any form, you will be amazed by the number of modern classics to see here. I also participated in one of the free art explanations and discussions they host drop-in style which was a delight!
We had not been to MOMA in over 15 years. Much has changed and much is the same. It's in the same place, and the building seems the same. The exhibits are always changing. But some items are still there. The coat room now uses cell phone numbers to check & reclaim items. You get a text message to your phone after checking your coat, and the text includes useful links to tour the museum. I did not check my small backpack, and I was told by a very nice guard that I could not wear it on my back - it was to be worn In the front.
We took the escalator up to the sixth floor. Then we walked each floor, looking at all the art - some 3D, some video, most static. Afterwards, we either used the stairs or took the escalator to the next floor down. On the third floor, we took a bathroom break. A very nice guard pointed us to the nearest bathrooms.
Surprise! At least 16 bathrooms are on the 3rd floor with no wait. And there is also one gender neutral bathroom. The sinks have soap, water AND dryer at each station. Now all of THAT is modern!
We kept going, and could have spent more than 2 hours here. But we were tired! We enjoyed our time here, and I especially enjoyed seeing the Picassos, Van Goghs, and a few other old masters.
