Went in for the roaring nights at the zoo, it is expensive to get, the alcohol is ridiculously marked up, but the food trucks are pretty reasonable and crazy good. We got to hear a whole lecture on the elephants and ask questions directly of the caretakers; I felt like a kid on a field trip.

I guess, bring a flask, pre-purchase your tickets and enjoy the zoo.

P.S. bringing a flask and pre-purchasing tickets probably works for the daytime zoo as well. But be sure to stay out of the sun.

I love this zoo. It's clean and the animals appear to be well taken care of. The only thing that I don't like is that they serve alcohol. You should be able to enjoy a family outing without drinking. I went to the zoo lights and saw so many parents with young children and the parents were lit. Scary to think that they were going to be driving their kids home!

It was fantastic. We missed the elephants. And the lions looked poorly taken care of. They look like they drug them up so they wont escape. But other than thats its pretty big and nice to walk around with the whole family. Plenty of restrooms restaurants tables benches and little shops through out the whole zoo they dont check your bags so i brought some drinks snacks and food for my little ones.

The Los Angeles Zoo is practically in my backyard I reside on the same street that it's located and I like the fact that when they are open there isn't that much traffic on our street and the parking is adequate for all the individuals and families who come to visit

This place is amazing !!! Great place to spend the day with family . My kids loved seeing all the animals and birds. The feeding sessions for various animals was very interesting. Great food and restrooms were well maintained. We loved it !!!

it would have been nice if the park would trim/maintain the plants below the pedestrian railing. It's bad enough everyone crowds the few animals that are actually visible while trying to get a better vantage point that are visibly obstructed by overgrown/un-maintained plants by the railing. .. obviously this park does not pay attention to the small details that could have improved this overcrowded park.

This was a great zoo! There were a ton of informative exhibits, and the animals appear to be well cared for. Cafes and snack shops are sprinkled throughout the zoo, so you're close to sustenance no matter where you are--a big plus when you have small kiddos. There are lots of water fountains too. We went on a really hot day, and it was nice to have easy access to refill our water bottles throughout the day. Another plus: plenty of shady places! We went through the zoo clockwise from the entrance so my kids (they're 3 and under) fell asleep before we got to it, but there's quite a large playground area that I know my kids would have loved. In fact, there were quite a few children (young and older) who were enjoying the play area when we passed by. Would definitely go back!

Great fun for the little ones. Be prepared to do a lot of walking, some hills. It is also not as shady as some of the other Zoos I've been to so we avoid it doing the midday. The food is okay but the churros are a must try, fresh and delicious. Bring your own stroller and get there early if you go on the weekend to find a good spot that isn't preferred upcharge.

It was ok. Great ticket prices, but I wasn't too crazy about this place. Restrooms were clean, walkways were clean. There is alot of resting spots and shade. It was very packed, weather was hot and the lines to get something to drink or eat was just ridiculously long. The animals were just laying there. It was very boring and some of the habitats didn't seem very attracting to zoo visitors. I guess all that matters is if the kids enjoy it and if they're learning from their visit here, then it's worth the visit.

This is my 1st time here and came for the LA Zoo lights, Christmas lights that they have for the Holidays, I'll be Honest is was ok but could of been way better, I have been to other places that I didn't have to pay it all and had way better lights in this place and also not all the zoo is open so that is a bummer but overall it was okay could have been better, this is more of a couple thing

Why only 3 stars? Well I think 3 stars is average - not great but not bad either. I based this review on the following: The zoo is located in the hills of Griffith Park so walking it can be a challenge for those with disabilities or at least difficulty walking. There are also a number of displays that are under renovation. There are also very few attendants that we could find to ask questions. Now on to the good. Lots of animals out and active. The staff we interacted with we're very helpful. The food at one of the cafes was good and reasonably priced. We felt we got our money's worth for the admission price.

If you're in the area and are looking for a way to spend the day I think this is an enjoyable choice. Leave time to walk the entire park so that you can catch the various animals when they're out and active.

There are some really great exhibits. Some of our favorites would be the elephants, the river otters, the giraffes, the Australia section, and the Lair (reptiles, amphibians, insects). The playground is a great place to stop for lunch with kids.
It can be a bit of a hike to get around, so be prepared to do some walking.

My job has a contract with the LA zoo so I visited it for the first time and really liked it. It is not as big as the SanDiego zoo but they do have plenty of animals and walking around is a breeze. I highly recommend especially for young children.
