The animals are adorable, but it's a small zoo for such a crowded metropolitan area. There's very little standing space, and even less seating at each exhibit, which only seems that much smaller with a decent sized crowd walking around to see each if the animals. My friend and I visited on a not-too-busy day, and it still felt far too crowded. There's no place to go inside to escape from the blazing southern California sun, and not nearly enough places to cool off (like the misters they have spread around in very few locations).

Some absolutely brilliant enclosures and very well cared for animals.
Although there was some protesters outside the entrance they didn't seem to be aware of the conservational efforts of this zoo and the quality of the homes these animals had.
Yes some enclosures were small for the bigger animals but not nearly as bad as some places I've seen and everywhere was clean, animals had lots of good food and there were cooling systems in all the enclosures for comfort.

The ticket prices are okay, not the best. Food prices are good. The gift shop is a little bit expensive but that's to be expected. Alot of the animals I felt didnt have enough room nor things to play in/hide in. I felt bad looking at some of them and left rather upset. :/ The kids love going here but that's just how I feel.

I bought a package for the aquarium and the zoo in August 2019 it was valid for a year I planned to visit in the spring break and since March that they closed I have not been able to go for the covi 19 and tried for a refund and nothing what they answer or in the aquarium and at the zoo

We love spending time at this zoo. The animals are given plenty of space and are often very active. The merchandise is very overpriced, but the food is great, especially the pizza and beer. We love all the snack stands and animal meet and greets. We even had one of our child's birthday parties here and it was amazing!

LA zoo is a wonderful place to take your kids or grandkids anytime of the year. There is so much to see. It doesn't cost alot to have a good time here with family and freinds. Feed the giraffes and watch the monkeys interact with the people.

This zoo is beautiful with plenty of shade throughout. Some of the exhibits, bird shows, and reptile building were closed but there were still plenty of animals to see. Our entry time was 10:30 a.m. and we were able to see a whole family of gorillas including a 13-month-old baby, we got to see them feed the chimpanzees. Also got to see an elephant walk to the waterfall and collect water in his trunk and drink it. Was quite fascinating.

I love coming to the Los Angeles Zoo! The Japanese festival in the Spring as well as the Rose festival is just amazing, although it gets crowded. It's best to come here on weekdays as there is hardly any crowd. They have a beautiful and peaceful space and I love the cafe here. I just come here at times to walk and enjoy nature, pity they don't allow dogs (that would be perfect!)

Good place only that they lack some creativity for what one pays is too much for what we observe 21 dollars for two hours and nothing different from seeing animals locked up I think that the only ones who would enjoy the walk would be children between 3 to 10 years old. my opinion

Excellent place to go with the family.

Excellent place to go with the family.
You travel the place in approximately 4hrs, you can take Lunch and eat on the benches.
Please do not feed or bother the animals, they are not very comfortable and still to be bothered to take a photo, it is not okay.
The entrance is at $ 21 apart you can buy activities with hippos and giraffes.

Apparently shaved ice is food, and you cant take it into the bird show. That is outside. We were asked if we could set it outside somewhere for the show. How funny. Shaved ice in 100 degree weather.

Called for information and "Max" was really rude, it was a simple question yet nothing nice about him. I understand your busy and can't Imagen the type of people you get over the phone but a smile and politeness doesn't hurt or kill you.

I wonder if the zoo is the same all year round .but I just visited today .arrived at 11 am and left at 4 pm in between those hours I only seen reptiles (that were hiding) ...and about 4 more animals .I understand its summer and the animals seek shade .but I did pay my fair share .besides that the park was so out of shape!!!! Trash everywhere .no staff around when needed.half the animals looked like they carried diseases so sad but true .I'll never return again

Great hiking location!

Great hiking location!

I've been going to the Old Zoo since I was a kid. I use to venture into the animal enclosures or caves as I use to call them, before the chain-linked fences were put up (on the back side). You can still explore the top side as people have lifted the fencing.

This location offers a glimpse into old LA. LA has a nasty habit of tearing, bulldozing and burying its past. Every time I go up there, I'm relieved to see that it is still there.

Equally amazing is the fact that many people, especially native Angelenos don't know that it exists.

So, if you've never been go. If you have, take a family member or friend who hasn't.

Tip: Go up there when it's dark. A bit scary but lots of fun!

My family always enjoys going to the zoo! It's a cheap way to get out of the house, get some exercise, and view the animals! If you live nearby and have kids, it is probably worth getting a family membership, about $150 for the whole year covers two adults and I believe however many kids you have. It also comes with coupons for the shuttle, guest passes if you want to bring a friend or the grandparents a couple times, and some other great savings. What I really love about the zoo is that they do not try to push their restaurants on guests. You can pack your own lunch, drinks, and snacks, they have no policy against outside food or drink. That being said, they offer basic food: pizza, hotdogs, hamburgers, tacos, burritos, sandwiches, and more. Although not all restaurants are open every day, but I believe during the summer everything should be open. They have Golden Road beer, as well as some other popular brands, so you can walk around with your kids and relax a little. They also have dip n dots, kettle corn, churros, soft serve ice cream, glazed almonds and vending machines with sodas, water, energy drinks, and ice cream. The bathrooms are generally clean and placed with decent frequency around the park, I know this because I'm pregnant . Oh and parking is free, just pay attention to the red zones or you may get a ticket. If the main parking is packed you can park at either the museum accross the street, or the extra lot for the zoo that is located right past the museum parking (on your left if you are coming from the freeway). I should mention too that if you forget something, e.i. sunscreen, chapstick, a hat... The main stores just up the stairs from the enterance carry the basics behind the counter and are not too crazy overpriced. This is a much more economical way to spend the day than going to a theme park, and as a parent I enjoy it more because the kids get to learn and exercise, and we don't have to spend like crazy. If you are a member, I would highly recommend going at different times during the day! One of our best animal viewing days was when we went around 3:30 ( the zoo closes at 5) the big cats are more active, so we finally got to get up close and personal with the jaguar as he was pacing for his dinner (4:30ish). Also another tip, if you can't see the otters... Go up the stairs! There is a large viewing platform, with a ramp past the lily pads if you have a stroller. The view from up there is really awesome, you can see almost all of the otter habitat! If you need quiet time on a crowded day the aviary has quite a few benches and plenty of shade, just keep an eye on toddlers... There are tons of stairs and rails with steep drops! Sorry, long review but I hope it can help some people get more out of their visit!

Well kept zoo with very pretty grounds. Nice place for a good walk. All the animals appeared to be well taken care of with appropriate enclosures and number of animals in the enclosures for socialization. Staff was friendly and knowledgeable, but the gift shop for such a large zoo was lacking heavily.

First time there, loved the animals we saw,but disappointed that the were no vending drink machines were available throughout park. I understand because of covid, but one or two available at such a big park. We did have water, just saying.

This place was comfortably not crowded on Thanksgiving but was definitely hotter than the rest of the city. The animals were all out even in mid day and I rather wish there were more spaces for them to seek refuge from all the kid noise. The many interactive exhibits were great, though.

The size of the enclosures for the animals is absolutely disgraceful. Most of the animals are just laying around all day because they barely have any room to walk. It was truly upsetting to walk around this zoo. If you have a heart and actually care for animals you will not visit this place.
