It's always perfect to have The Grove now in Hayes Valley. First on Fillmore, now here is more convenient to stop by and have a casual meal. The food is the same as Fillmore and it's great, chicken pot-pie is great, Mac&cheese is fantastic and the tuna sandwich is pretty good too. I personally love the decor, the floors are insane! and the Moroccan-style fountain is super cool, I want it in my house. Great spot in Hayes Valley.

A really great place for a really big appetite, plus easy on the wallet. Everything is good & fresh, the service staff are friendly and the natural feel of the place makes it an all around perfect afternoon spot.

Great place for a chill dinner in the city. Prices are reasonable and the menu is very diverse, there is something there for everyone. FYI they have beer on tap but it is hard to find the sign with the selection, so don't forget to ask.

In the 5 days I was in San Francisco we ate there 4 times. Pot pie is wonderful and there is this salad with tortilla chips and a lime dressing that will make you want to lick the bowl. I had it the first day and the second time my group went there is because everyone wanted to try my salad!

I never got a chance to come here before, but I live it now! The food and service were great! There presentation of food was even better. It's a big place with lots of seatings. If you're a vegetarian, then you'll love the one salad option they have. I think you can ask to make any dish veggie, but not sure.

Gave up waiting for Nojo Ramen Tavern next door and walked to The Grove instead before the G.E.M. concert last month.

Ordered the burger with a slice of sharp cheddar (+$1) and a large oatmeal raisin cookie to go. The burger had a warm pink center which was perfect for me but not for my friend who ordered the same thing and preferred her burger to be cooked thoroughly (we were not offered to choose how we like our burgers cooked when we ordered). The burger comes with half a pickle and a side of Yukon potatoes or raw slaw, both are good choices. My friend's side of potatoes came with 8 pieces of stubby wedges.

This place was very busy and loud around 7 pm on Friday, the service is not too bad. It took about 15 minutes from the time we stood in line to order to when we got our food at the table. The tables near the window are placed very close together so you may be sitting very close to the person next to you at the adjacent table, especially on the bench side.

More than two orders with mistakes, on to-go orders inconvenient to fix. French toast with no syrup only toast and sliced berries. The French Toast bread crust is tough and chewy like an oversized French baguette not soft; difficult to eat. Staff generally friendly, except for one manager who also serves and seems to have no time for kind acknowledgements.

I came here for Sunday brunch after hearing hour long waits at other trendier spots. The restaurant was crowded but by the time we got through the order line several outside tables opened up. The eggs scrambles are delicious and full of fresh ingredients, and the mimosas are nice and boozy.

Delicious food. Cozy setting. Friendly staff. This is easily my favorite breakfast spot in the city. The quality of the food is well worth the price, but it does put them more on the side of a "special" outing than a Sunday morning regular.

We live in Civic Center, and we love having The Grove in our neighborhood! Solid menu, never had a bad meal yet. Counter service, friendly staff, very consistent kitchen staff. Go show them some love, too!

Sandwiches, cozy atmosphere, and open late. This is a great place to get lunch or dinner. You can find comfort food such as tomato soup and grilled cheese and newer stuff like avocado toast. The chicken pot pie is especially good.

Cozy, homespun atmosphere and genuinely friendly staff are just the beginning...the food at this restaurant is lovingly crafted and delicious to the point of rapture. Freshly squeezed orange juice, deliciously smooth coffee (an in-house blend that could ruin you on other coffees), and a selection of breakfasts that should please just about anyone. I had their New Yorker breakfast sandwich with rosemary hash browns... PERFECT. An SF must!

Popped in, busy (great sign), great meal, fast and friendly service. Fun place. Interesting menu, something for everybody. Chicken Pot Pie, Best BBQ ribs and what I'd guess is the original Waldorf Astoria Red Velvet Cake recipe made to perfection. Back for the Portabello Benedict recommended.

This wasn't the restaurant I was expecting - I thought it had servers but you actually go to the cashier and order your meal and they bring it to you - I actually enjoyed it and the vegetarian chili. It was a bit loud but you could still easily have a private conversation with those you're with.

This should be just one street over (on Grove!). Great place to enjoy a meal that's high quality but not too expensive. I think beer and wine were available, but it's really more about the food and the atmosphere. There are a few in SF if you don't live in Hayes Valley.

It's a bit pricier than other breakfast places but the food quality is pretty consistently good. The drinks are far especially guilty of being pricy. You get a lot but it's often got a lot of ice.

Really cozy atmosphere, you can get food and drinks. Great place to hang out for a bit. They were really friendly, I wanted to eat something small and allowed me to order from the kids menu! And even then, I was only looking for a snack and it was still quite large. Reasonable prices, felt like comfort food.

Food was moderately priced. I ordered the pear and Gorgonzola grilled cheese.. was a bit too salty for my taste. Maybe I just didn't like the cheese. The chips were nice in that it was house made. They were nicely crunchy but a tad oily. Liked the pickle that came on the side. The salads that everyone else ordered looked superbly HUGE.

So it's a happening place with tasty food and drinks. Because of the acoustics it's challenging to hold a conversation. I really enjoyed the cucumber ginger drink they make - not too sweet. But everything was delivered luke warm making what could have been super yummy food downgraded to reasonably tasty. Staff was quite friendly, but I felt there could be some training on customer management. Specifically if someone visibly has physical challenges standing/waiting in lines (or verbally states it) they should consider encouraging them to find a table and order that way to increase accessibility. Additionally, when rich white privileged bros snagged a table if your rules really are order before you eat then don't pander to their privileged intimidation refusal tactics as they hung around waiting for more bri bros to show. Be firm in the boundary.

Our sandwiches and service were fantastic. I am not a big fan of ordering at the counter and then hunting a table but seems to be a thing. The inside decor is what makes this place. We love it. We stopped in for lunch and ordered sandwiches. Everyone on staff were so helpful and friendly even though they were mind bogglingly busy. I will say this for me I was not impressed by the desserts. They looked soooooo good and while some of us at the table liked them I did not. :( We ordered several to try and none of them hit the spot. Something was off with each one for me. But never fear I will try again another day.

I ate at the Grove twice during my visit to SF.

I ate at the Grove twice during my visit to SF.
On the first day i ordered the slow cooked short ribs and on the second day the Meatballs Sandwich and upgraded it to include the Chicken Lime Tortilla soup.
The Short ribs were cooked to be soft and carved as a butter, it comes with mashed potatoes. Definitely a nice dish.
In my opinion the meatball sandwich wasn't as good the sauce was a bit spicy (not too much) but overall it felt to me a bit flavourless, also while eating the first half the second half became sougy.
BUT, my biggest surprise was the Chicken Lime Tortilla soup! I lived in Mexico for over 5 years and tortilla soup is one of my favourite dishes and i tried it in many places. The Chicken Lime Tortilla soup of The Grove is GREAT. Better than many places in Mexico that claim to have the best Tortilla soup. Maybe it is still not the best i ever had but it is definitely in my top 5 (maybe even in the top 3). Don't miss it, highly recommended.
The decor is a bit rustic, which in general was nice, though for me the chairs/benches were not that comfortable, i think that having more comfortable sitting would help me to enjoy the meals better.

The place is nice and the dishes are strong (quantity) at a very adequate price for the area where it is.
I ordered the meatballs and they were very tasty, however the salad we ordered had a very strong dressing (rare in Spain) and we did not like it. The chicken pie disappointed us a bit.
The treatment is very good.

One of my favorite restaurants because of the atmosphere and food. Everytime I walk in I smile at the decor, the different types of seating and all of the energy buzzing around from the people enjoying their food and conversations. I still personally think they have the best grilled cheese and tomato bisque soup in the city. Switched it up yesterday though and loved the Grove Turkey sandwich, but still got the side tomato bisque. The staff has always been wonderful, both welcoming and attentive to our needs. It's a great place to catch up with a friend, have a work meeting or even bring a date to.

When I went with my friends, I had brought my own food. I was told outside food was not allowed. So, I bought a snack to show that I was a paying customer. I then proceeded to eat my own food because I had bought something. The man comes back and says I am not allowed outside food. I say that I have bought a croissant and am a paying customer. He says so EAT the croissant in a very patronizing and sarcastic tone. I then decide to leave with my food and my croissant. My friends then say something about how I was treated and the same man rolls his eyes and walks away. I will not be going back and neither will my friends. I won t support a restaurant that treats customers like this. Very rude!

Great for groups meeting before shows to order individually. The three cheese mac n cheese is not what children expect. The chicken pot pie was savory. Closer to show times, the line to wait gets longer.

Great restaurant overall and I love going there, however we were there close to closing last night and an employee left the bathroom without washing their hands which was a little concerning.

Great place for breakfast or lunch. Very popular with the locals. Breakfast served all day and lunch has everything from soups, salads, & sandwiches to full entree plates. Great cookies if you have a sweet tooth. This place is about a 10 minute walk from the Orpheum.

Very high-class and very tasty food! The deviled eggs weren't my favorite but they're decent. The fried chicken was hearty and lots of food, so order that if you're really hungry. The meat was delectable. Get the mashed potatoes with it and dip the chicken into it. I like the ambience and dark wood everywhere. The fire next to our table classed-up our lunch.

Great spot to grab breakfast! We wandered around for an hour trying to find a breakfast spot without a huge line and decided to try The Grove. Yes, there was still a line, but it moved quickly because you order at the counter. The New Yorker breakfast sandwich was fantastic and I even tried the French toast, which was killer as well. I would highly recommend The Grove and will definitely be back when we get back to SF.
