Communal seating, hip vibe, cool wooded decor -- and the food's great, too.

Really delicious and very healthy salad they call the Berkeley bowl. Huge, filling. The place was crowded on Sunday afternoon at 4:30.

Nice place, nice atmosphere, food was good but a bit expensive. The desserts were amazing though!!!!

Went there for breakfast. Try the breakfast burrito, you won't be disappointed (or hungry).

Good staff, good food, only problem is many ingredients were not announced. Who puts mayo on a french dip?

We went with a friend and food and drinks were really good, service also a plus. Good place if you only want to grab a drink too

Very good casual and comforting cafe-type dining. The cheesesteak and the chicken apple salads were very good.

This charming location situated in Hayes Valley is a perfect place for breakfast,lunch and dinner. With a great outdoor seating area, a great menu and excellent service this is a spot you will find yourself coming back to time and time again. The prices are very reasonable which is hard to find in the area. Most of all I always suggest their lavender lemonade!

It s fine. I mean it s a reliable place to have something tasty. The best part is sometimes you can sit outside.

Casual upscale place. Nice ambience. No waiter service. Good food. Vegetarian friendly.

I've gotten some weird looks when I say I like going to The Grove. But I like the food here! I usually get the Oriental chicken salad. I've also had their tuna salad, tuna sandwich, and some of their breakfast items. I hear people complain about the prices.. but it's Hayes Valley, and San Francisco in general. I think the food is good and will continue to come here when in the mood.

And I recommend the lavender lemonade. It's refreshing, especially on those rare warm days.

Informal restaurant in a great location for pre-event dinner. You order at the counter, then find a table and they bring your order to you when it's ready. Enough selection to have something for everyone. You're not going to get a good basic meal at a reasonable price.

Great food, great staff (friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable). The coffee was excellent, the gluten free bread they provide is wonderful, and even the hash browns were a cut above and delicious!

Food was good. Seating is clunky and ordering your food is strange for the type of place it is. Kind of like a really expensive McDonald's. Would be better experience if they had severs.

Everything has something that makes the dish so delightful. The walnuts in the salad were toasted to perfection and slightly sweet.

Love their Chicken Lime and Tortilla Soup. They have a good selections of options, and handy to SF Jazz, Opera and Ballet. Can be busy of the nights that their are shows. Staff always pleasant.

Had a miscommunication with a waitress but had a very attentive manager notice and totally helped us out and went above and beyond. Delicious food, great prices, and fun location!

Delicious, healthy options, generous portions, and a staff and management that really care about the satisfaction of the patrons. Every time I've eaten here it's been a positive experience from the quality of the food to the positive attitudes of the staff and management.

Have found it to be a great place to do meetings - atmosphere's highly conducive (bit like a cafe with laptops out everywhere) and the food is decent.

Quick service. It seemed like we only just sat down when our food came. The bloody mary has a nice kick to it.

Servings are ample size, traditional menu. Prices reasonable. Noisy during busy times.

What is giving it 5 stars however the meatballs in my meatball sandwich were a bit chilly (meaning cold) .... unfortunately I made the assumption that everything was made there daily

So happy we had our wedding luncheon there! Great food, cozy atmosphere, friendly service... Events Manager, Christina Sanchez, went above & beyond 5 star service to make sure every aspect of our celebration was perfect! Highly recommend The Grove-Hayes to everyone!

Expensive but a great dining experience. They have unique food choices and excellent service.

Inexpensive comfort food in a very casual setting - surrounded by more pricey eateries catering to a very trendy clientele going to music, opera, and lecture venues in the neighborhood.

Food is meh, and after coming here for well over 2 years they still almost tackle me to give me a menu when I walk in the door as if they think I'm a new customer.

Solid options with cozy fare right on Hayes street. Try the tuna melt or the vegetarian chili!

Limited menu on weekdays before 11am at this location but the breakfast sandwich is delicious! Best bread ever!

I got the French toast and it was fantastic. Great food quality, mimosas, and great customer service. More on the pricey side but worth it if you're looking to treat yourself. Espresso was great too!

The Grove in it's assorted locations is always good. I miss the original on Chestnut.

Good atmosphere! Like that you can order and get your food quickly.

Cozy setting with unique food. Meat is prepared and marinated very well. Utmost mastery of Mexican style tacos. A must try for sure.

I did not expect to be giving a five star rating, but the Grove was a very pleasant surprise. The food was delicious. The pastrami is some of the best I've had anywhere, the French toast was fantastic, the chocolate cake was a delight. The staff was super friendly, and the atmosphere was fun. The prices were even very reasonable, especially considering the quality of the food and the location so close to the Opera House and Symphony Hall.

Only down side is seating can be a challenge. But don't let that stop you from enjoying the great food!

Good place to come before a show. Only downside is the crowding, so be prepared to be aggressive about finding spots if you're in a big group.

Order at front and take a number. They bring food out. Chicken. Tortilla . Soup. Amazing.

Man, this place just delivers such consistency. I've gotten almost everything on the menu before and, while there are some desserts I'm not totally enamored with, most everything I have here is very satisfactory. The counter service is quick and the staff is very friendly. The avocado toast with egg is one of my favorites but the salads are amazing. I really like the Berkeley Bowl with chicken breast and green goddess dressing. Plus they have like 3 locations (possibly more) which is also nice.

Our sandwiches and service was fantastic. I am not a big fan of ordering at the counter and then hunting a table but seems to be a thing. The inside decor is what makes this place. We love it. We stopped in for lunch and ordered sandwiches. Everyone on staff were so helpful and friendly even though they were mind bogglingly busy. I will say this for me I was not impressed by the desserts. They looked soooooo good and while some of us at the table liked them I did not. :( We ordered several to try and none of them hit the spot. Something was off with each one for me. But never fear I will try again another day.

Love it! Very friendly staff and a good selection of classics and coffee. The restaurant is very charming and the atmosphere is relaxed. You'll find loads of locals here too and the prices are very good for the quality you get. When I'm in SF, I stop by every time.

Good gas prices and I got to go where the gas prices are low.
