Came here for dinner. The food was incredible. Must go place.
My husband and I had a great stay at the elms, the only down fall is the toilet ran all night and we had people in and out of our room all day so being our honeymoon it took away from the romance.
The Elms has really stepped up their game in the recent years. What once was a blight is now a great destination to take for a classy dinner, a relaxing spa day, or an evening away while still being close to the KC Metro area. Kudos to everyone there who puts in the hard work keep and maintain the hotel.
We had spa pedicures and the spa is not equipped to give a average pedicure, it cost $60.00 plus 21 percent gratuity and I feel like I need to get another pedicure done. The Grotto and hotel room was nice. Food was super expensive in the restaurant.
This weekend was our first time to the Elms to celebrate our first-year anniversary. We reserved two nights but left a night early as the bed was hard as a rock and my husband and I are very stiff, sore, and exhausted without sleep. We also ended up using our own pillows, I'm grateful my husband thought to bring them along. The spa services and spa staff were enjoyable. We also very much enjoyed a local downtown wine shop/cafe "The Mercantile", great food and friendly service. However, we will neither be returning nor recommending to family and friends as the pillow-top "memory foam mattress" was very uncomfortable and not at all worth the expense. Not the tempur-pedic type that you might imagine. It kills me to think we ate the cost of another night, but my body will thank me in the morning after a night on our quality bed at home. When we checked out before leaving, the staff brushed off our concern as something they've heard multiple times before. If your back needs to sleep on a stiff old board, then the mattresses at the Elm's would be perfect for you.
Beautiful and elegant fall short of description for this place. Excellent for couples looking to get away and not be far from the big city.
Went just for the spa and my wife and I loved it. The grotto is amazing and everything is very relaxing.
We stayed here for one night through the Hyatt and had a great time! Since they just got acquired, we had to inquire quite a bit on the benefits of an Explorist (Hyatt member level) and make sure we weren t charged for breakfast, roll away bed, etc. but generally speaking the service was great. Pool was fun and in basement (indoor lap pool, quite unique and hot tub), didn t try spa service but restaurant was delicious. Did the grouper and seafood dip and it was fantastic. Breakfast buffet was good too, and even though short handed the server was apologetic and did her best. It was a good time. Note the rooms on floor 4 are a little outdated and small but normal for a historical building. They are currently remodeling floor 3 and moving their way up. Didn t hear constructions at all.
So fun! We will be back. Watch out for xtra fees on your receipt. Great 6ft hot tub and alot of EMF while ghost hunting
I use to work there. And they were EXTREMELY unorganized. So I decided it wasn t a fit for me, so I left. Well i recently I found out from one of my old co-workers that she been calling me a queer. And she keeps talking about me, even though I left like a month ago!
The hotel was nice, but I was unimpressed by the size of the room. Sound insulation did not meet my expectations, as I could hear my neighbors every move.
Nice rooms, friendly staff and awesome pools; however, the hotel needs a bigger makeover if it wants to stay competitive. The rooms had an old odor and the carpets need to be cleaned. This hotel is peaceful and good for a weekend stay; however, for the expensive pricing I expected and deserve better!!!!
Excellent service. Indoor lap pool and hot tub, outdoor hot tub and pool. Beautiful scenery. Will definitely be coming back!
Got a couples facial with my wife. Was a super relaxing experience and a great day away from the grind in Kansas city.
Loved the ghost tour. The spa was nice but would have preferred an outdoor spring or something. Kind of dark gloomy. The massage was just mediocre.
Hotel was beautiful, pool and jacuzzi (inside and outside) were great, and the ghost tour led by Jay was awesome!! Dinner was fabulous too, such a nice restaurant/bar. Breakfast in bed was a delight too! Can't wait to come back and stay longer!
Let me add, that our room was gorgeous, we had a king bed with a jacuzzi tub in the bathroom, which the bathroom itself was ginormous. Double sink with jacuzzi tub and a big shower on the other side of the bathroom. Bathroom was seriously big as a bedroom lol. Bed was super comfy as well.
The rooms are very nice, and all of the staff is extremely friendly. The only major drawback is a lack of informational binder in the room. There is so much information that should be shared (checkout times, restaurant menus, spa services, things to do in the city, etc.).
The hotel is nice. My wife enjoyed the spa areas. The midnight snacks prices are limited and ridiculously priced. The restaurant is okay. Crazy prices though. Like I said the hotel is nice, but there's nothing around it. The area is boring.
The spa as always was incredible. We had some issues with service at the restaurant at dinner. Service was very slow and food was just so so. The accommodations are 5 star as always but the bad service really held our experience back just a bit.
Good food. Waiter was very nice and was very accommodating to our group. However, I waited to be seated (no sign saying if I should wait or seat myself) for several minutes before finding a seat.
Its our 5yr Anniversary and we wanted to go some place relaxing and its 3am and drunk parties all over our floor called front desk several times to complain. Wanted a quiet romamtic night and got 20 some yrs being so rowdy i cant sleep. If you want a quiet romance weekend stay somewhere else.
It was great! The outdoor got tub was especially nice in the cold weather and the staff was extremely helpful and friendly!
Beautiful hotel and an amazing history behind it all. Definitely will be staying there again.
The service was fabulous! And my room was clean. I would highly recommend them to my friends and family.
I went here to get out of the house with my mom, baby sister, and dog. We first checked in and got to our room. To get in you have to wave the card to get in. It takes a minute to for it to finally get i the room. When we got it it was really hot, when somebody came in they said that the heat has been on and we didn t turn it on. The room was nice and I didn t have any problems. When we went swimming outside there were lots of bugs in the pool and somebody smoking an electric cigarette, I understand the bugs but I think there should be a rule to no smoking anything. After that we got dinner and it took a bit to get here but the food was delicious. Over all it was a good experience
Very enjoyable stay. The hotel has a very historic feel to it. Walking around it takes you back into time. Very friendly staff, comfortable rooms, great restaurant on site for dinner and breakfast. It feels small inside because of when it was built. I would have given it 5 stars except the carpet in our room was stained.
Great value. The bed was super lumpy...kind of hard to sleep on, but a hundred nice things really put that out of my mind.
What a great weekend getaway spot! So much character and so many things to do. Consider bringing swim goggles/suit and workout clothes.
Beautiful inside and out, the workers are extremely nice ( every single time i visit ) and its smells great in there!
***Don not stay here if there is a wedding!***
My wife and I hardly ever stay someplace nice so we were excited to stay here except when we got here:
1. Not impressed with the hotel - looks WAY nicer online
2. First room, the bed cover (memory foam) was LUMPY, had craters in it... wow.
3. The gave us a 2nd room and the bed was OK - better the sleep on but first impression was not good
4. Had to hold the toilet seat up to go pee, because it would just fall back down - lol WOW
5. Wedding Saturday night - we got back to the hotel very tired from a long day in the city and the wedding reception was SUPER loud and of course they had their bar IN the lobby so when you walk in, you are kind of walking into their reception bar area. The music is very loud and we could hear and feel the bass thumping in our room on the 2nd floor. Wedding went until midnight and people in the halls we up past then
6. Our room windows faced pool side - people at the pool were loud and didnt leave until midnight too.
7. Their wifi connection sucks and is really spotty - NO verizon service here for your phone so hard to look up things like where to eat - etc
This place was so expensive - would have rather stayed at a holiday inn express for cheaper and nicer beds, quiet room etc. all other hotels were booked otherwise we would have left with the lumpy bed and the sight of the wedding. :)
This hotel has the potential to be amazing but is in desperate need of a remodel. The carpet is the rooms are absolutely disgusting. The AC units turn off at random times, are very loud and visibly dirty. The grotto area in the spa was again....dirty. A deep clean of the grout in the steam rooms and all tile in the grotto are would do wonders. With Hyatt s recent acquisition maybe they can get the owner to invest in the needed updates.
The restaurant cocktails and menus were amazing and I fully recommend having dinner here.
Jay, the ghost tour guide is extremely knowledgeable and passionate. The tour was a highlight of the visit!
I would never recommend the elms hotel to anyone. They double charged us back in October and I am still trying to get a refund posted to my credit card. Not a single person will give me a call back. It is honestly sad that management won't take responsibility and make it right.
Room was DIRTY..... Restroom was thimble size , front desk was rude
We had a very pleasant stay even though it was a one night stay on our way traveling through Kansas. Staff was very pleasant upon checking in and welcomed us along with telling us everything about the hotel/spa facilities, giving us some literature and prices.... Also a little bit of history. It was a little difficult finding a hotel ( a clean one and in a good neighborhood) off I 35 that excepted dogs.
The hotel is a little difficult to get to. My navigation system took us a round about way and should have just stayed on Hwy 69 to Hwy 10 and should take you right to the hotel.
Rooms were extremely clean, bed was comfortable and all the usual room amenities.
We were not able to stay for breakfast in the hotel restaurant so we grabbed a coffee and pastries at their cafe/espresso bar. All homemade pastries! Chocolate filled croissant delish! The barista was very pleasant and engaging in conversation. Definitely would like to stay again to take advantage of the spa services.... Manicure, pedicures, massages etc.
Excelsior Springs seems quaint a little town, I didn't even think I was in Kansas!!!
Expensive and needs updating in rooms moldy smell. Great lap pool.
You have ruined this hotel the waterfall hot tub and the leaf hot tubs were great It will always be a great hotel but the little things that you used to have made it what it was I will never stay there again because what you guys did in the remodel it was not broke so why change it
Nice hotel. Very nice pool but can get kind of crowded. Nice restaurant!
The Elms Hotel is a wonderful place to relax. Go to the Wabash BBQ, a short walk away, for great smoked meats.
Love the atmosphere and the employees, but carpets dirty, stained bedspread, the robe I was given during first spa session was falling apart and scratchy. Second spa session my sister searched and found me a much better robe. Ask for "Toy" for manis/pedis or facials, she is wonderful. Again the staff is great, owners just need to spend some money on upkeep.
Beautiful hotel with a great event space. It was a perfect location for a weekend getaway to attend a friend's wedding.
I photographed a wedding at this location in May 2016. The grounds are beautifully maintained. I recommend a suite for bridal parties getting ready, the standard room is very basic. The pool and hot tub were already open and being enjoyed! The gazebo needs decoration to feel bridal, but is a nice size. So many great locations right on property to take pictures. I loved the historic feel. I will consider this hotel for my next weekend vacation from KC.
Have been going to the The Elms Hotel and Spa with my family for the last 3 years. Love the hotel and spa but was really disappointed with the service this year. We spent over $2,000 in rooms and services during their New Years Eve event and was very disappointed in how difficult the staff made the checkout process. The manager Barry, was very condescending during checkout and still ended up charging me incorrectly. Would recommend the hotel but not impressed at all with their customer service.
Cool and old but still some oddities like stains on the shower and carpets, seems a bit like a spooky old place.
Awesome hotel. Literally the best nights sleep I have ever gotten. If I could take a mattress home with me, I would!
My hubby & I go up to the Elms every year and love it (since 2004). It is perfect for a romantic weekend getaway and to just relax & rest. We usually always go up for our anniversary and when they run specials. The Parlor Suite is the best because it has a sitting room with a big screen T.V., a couch, desk, coffee table and end tables. If one of us want to stay up late and not disturb the other we can shut the door to the bedroom. The staff is friendly and professional, always accommodating.
Attended a wedding there, we stayed the weekend and it was all spectacular. Had the best time.
Loved our stay. Clean, modern with a great spa and awesome food. Strong WiFi throughout. Tip: Make reservations in advance for the spa!!
Beautiful historic hotel, spa was very nice. The food in the 88 restaurant was below average, and the bartender in the tavern needs some training, she could not make a martini.
This place is a really nice place to visit and get away from everything
We stopped at The Elms for the Excelsior Springs Chocolate Tour. From my limited time there, our group had a good time. Staff was very friendly and the chocolate treats were pretty good. Would be interested in spending a weekend get away here sometime.
Great resort-like atmosphere in the middle of nowhere
An amazing stay with many historical facts! The pool was really awesome (both inside and out). The grounds were well maintained, truly a cozy and relaxing place to stay!! However, the breakfast was not included in the room price and was a bit costly.
The spa experience was relaxing and wonderful! We went for an hour-long massage and enjoyed the Grotto, outdoor pool, and relaxation room. Prenatal massage was the first I had where I could lie on my stomach.
Great Hotel, beautiful grounds and very courteous and helpful staff. My wife and I hope to visit again someday.
Loved our stay this weekend. Did the romantic escape package and it was fantastic! The massage was amazing!! We will be back for sure!!
Great hotel, very clean and excellent staff. I would recommend the romance package to friends and family who want to stay here for a celebration such as anniversaries or holidays.
Wow! We didn t even know what a gem we had so close to KC! We went to the Elms Hotel and Spa for our second wedding anniversary to get away for a day and relax. Our stay was perfect and we both feel so rejuvenated! The rooms themselves were clean and the bed and pillows were so comfortable. The staff was very cordial and the customer service was outstanding! The 88 restaurant had great food and cocktails; they must have quite an outstanding chef there as well. The hot tubs and pools were clean, relaxing, and the surrounding architecture is beautiful!! There is also a courtyard with a gazebo which is stunning as well. Don t even get me started on our experience at the spa it was awesome. We got to spend two hours in the grotto which included a separate underground hot tub, sauna, 2 steam rooms, and a cold plunge shower. The massages we had were amazing and the masseuses were attentive, friendly, and knowledgeable. We had such a great time and it felt like a mini vacation which was exactly what we needed!!
Disappointed. There is no where that it says you have to book a spa service inorder to even go into the Grotto.
The entire place is beautiful, at least the common areas. The rooms are in desperate need of remodeling. The carpets are stained, some of the roo.s are huge, some are big but laid out awkwardly, and some are tiny. Our whole family was there, so I saw 5 or 6 different ones. The food was good in the restaurant but limited menu. I can't wait to go back after the giant remodel that is supposed to happan this fall.
Beautiful hotel and grounds. Great, attentive service. Just a short drive from KC if there's stuff you want to do there as well. My only complaint would be that it was very easy to hear people in the hallway from inside our room. This was a bit annoying at night, but otherwise wasn't a big deal.
The Elms is beautiful and we'll kept. The Staff shows exceptional customer service. I was just married in their regent ballroom and the experience exceeded all of my expectations. The biggest thank you to all the hard working, sweet and professional Elms staff
This was a great getaway for a couple days! The Spa is amazing and the staff and amenities were awesome!
Great place to staycation from the kc area. I recommend the half hour drive just to check out the spa. We really enjoyed our couples massages. Take advantage of the two hour access to the grotto with any spa package . I especially enjoyed the sauna. The breakfast at the 88 was great too.
Nice rustic place. We dined at the 88 restaurant and it was amazing. The braised lamb shank was one of the best meals of my life.
Very nice stay the amenities were amazing as well as the staff
The architecture and design was very appealing and the hotel was well kept and clean. The amenities we very fancy and tidy.
Went to the spa and got a massage. They put a mandatory 21% tip on my bill. I should be able to decide how much I should tip or even if I tip at all. I won't be back.
Rooms are comfortable and clean but it s so loud. Don t come if you want to go to sleep before midnight. High bass music playing for a wedding reception, loud people up and down hallways, extremely noisy heating/air unit in rooms. Definitely not the place to stay if you want relaxation or rest.
