An enjoyable and fun day activity perfect for learning that extra bit more about the history of evolution and nature itself. For the more inquisitive mind the exhibits offer a rich display and informative plaques to observe and study. For the youngsters on the other hand, the centre offers a fantastically fun underground river boat ride being both exhilarating, informative and a tad bit spooky! A genuinely lovely day out!

What a spectacular experience... facilities are very neat, clean and futuristic. Staff is super professional and friendly. The experiance was beyond my imagination and would recommend anyone to go and see the history of humankind. You learn so much and get real satisfaction and value for your money! Thanks

Well this is great place to find out.

The cradle houses the archeological site for what is now known as Mrs Ples, our earliest ancestor.

Then there is musuem, obviously
And the sterkfontein caves.

Had a great time at the Cradle of Man. Personal was very helpful. Had a teenager and 10 year old with me and both enjoyed the day. There are a lot to see and experience. Not the stuffy idea of a museum as you would think. Interactive areas are also good. It is good to know where you come from.

I always enjoy checking out the exhibit and science centre at Maropeng. Currently, the exhibit is a feature on the finding of new bones at the Sterkfontein caves. The science centre is beautifully curated and fun to engage with.

Quite well made museum on history of origins - includes a theme-park like water ride. Highly recommended for visitors with children as it is educative and entertaining on the same time. For adults - depends. For those who are expecting more on the fossils and seeing the excavation sites will be disappointed, but those who wants to learn might be ok.

Initially I was doubtful about the value of visiting this. The cost is high and the experience could be short. Combine this with a trip to the Sterkfontein Caves and get the combined ticket which makes it super worth it. The kids enjoyed the boat ride and we're even entertained for quite some time at the exhibits. One thing that could be better is that some of the digital displays were fritzing and some were unplugged. Maybe an upgrade in the near future is in order.

Had an amazing stay at the Boutique Hotel and visitors center. My visit was during the off season in July, and my stay was absolute perfection. The wait staff were kind and helpful. The dining experience was phenomenal! The best cut of meat that I have ever had in my life was the warthog fillet. The museum was amazing! A diamond in the rough.
Thank you for an absolute magical stay in rural South Africa!

Great outing close to Johannesburg. Some features for the kids like the jumping Castles and jungle gym not maintained and was filthy. Would have made an even better lunch break.
I understand weekdays are quiet times but then price should be adjusted accordingly.

Most amazing site! Wonderful cave tour. Friendly tour guide. Hard to find, not enough road signs with a number of different roads that need to be driven.
This truly the cradle of humankind!
There was an amazing sculpture exhibition outside the long road to freedom with life-sized statues of most prominent politicians over the last few hundred years of South Africa s history.

Tourist attraction, a place everyone needs to visit with their family or friends! Lots of history, restaurants and snacks on premises.
If you're not from South Africa, round up a gang and go explore!

The statues for the long Walk to Freedom expo are well worth the trip. The life size statues, nearly 100 when we visited, are located by the main car park and therefore free to view. The aim is 500 statues but the final location of all these statues is still to be decided. Each statute is accompanied by a bio.

Superb facility with plenty of parking and a well designed and unique museum experience. History is presented in a very informative way and care has been taken to increase understanding and explanation and providing context. Well worth the visit.
