Like many of the reviews on here, I used to come to the Colonial Diner for years until the quality began to decline with the previous owner. I stopped going for a while and the then was informed by word of mouth that Colonial Diner has been remodeled under new ownership. I decided to give it another try and both the service and food is fantastic.

I came here today, October 26th, for lunch and it was busy. While waiting to be seated, one of the servers could be overheard saying she could not handle any more people in her section up front. We (a party of five) ended up being seated in the back and it was the BEST THING that could have happened for the dining experience.

Stacey, a lovely and attentive server, greeted all of us with a smile. While hustling between multiple tables of large parties, she managed to take all of our orders and answered our questions about the food. During the service, she kept all of our glasses full and made sure our needs were met, exceeding all expectation. She kept her pace, calm, and smile all while taking care of everyone in her section.

As for the food, it is outstanding. My brother, who is vegetarian, had the "best cup of soup in years". Every meal portion was adequate size and cooked to perfection. Their recipes and quality is even higher now than it was years ago.

Overall, I HIGHLY recommend Colonial Diner for an excellent mean and dining experience. Ask for Stacey and you will have fantastic service to go with the food - the best of both worlds.

My husband and I went to Colonial on a Sunday evening. There wasn't a hostess up front and we ended up waiting several minutes before we were even acknowledged by any of the staff. After we were seated, it took nearly ten minutes before our waitress made an appearance; then it took her several more minutes to bring us two waters. We ordered the Fried Mac and Cheese for an appetizer. They looked good, but the insides were ice cold. My husband ordered a Cuban sandwich for his main course and I ordered a Sante Fe Salad. The pork on the sandwich was very dry and tasted old, and my salad was missing the major ingredients pertaining to the type of salad I ordered. The waitress said she knew they were out of the ingredients, but failed to tell me that when I ordered. When we were paying our bill and reporting to the cashier (who I believe was some sort of management) our problems, she literally just stared at us. We received no apology or anything. We used to love going to this diner for a quick meal - it wasn't the greatest food, but it was good diner food. Since the new owners took over, the food and service have both gone down hill. They may have new and shiny menus and are doing some renovations, but those things are not enough for us to return. We will travel out of our way from now on to go to better establishments, and I will make that suggestion to others as well.

It's always good when I go. Employees were so friendly and concerned for my cold who she didn't want people to bump him from out of the kitchen. She moved him to the other side of the table. Very sweet

Hit or miss. The breakfast choices are usually decent. However, lately they must have had a change in cooks or in the quality of the food, other than breakfast fare. Doesn't taste as good as usual. I think they must be resting on their
laurels as it is the only place in town. However, if they do not watch out they'll find people will not mind driving a few miles south for better food. That would be a shame as they are really convenient to where we live. In response to t he owners comment. We did speak to a manager on the phone who told us that their food is great and that we must just be picky!!! Really?! Craziest response I've heard from a business owner.

We've been coming here for a few years, only because it's convenient, and every time I keep saying we're never coming back. The food is only tolerable, it looks good and smells good but just isn't. The last time we were here our waitress yelled at the bus boy like he was her child. It's was embarrassing. Our service was good this time but that's a hit and miss too. You certainly can tell management simply doesn't care. They have plenty of business because of people like us that continue to go there although we really don't like it.

I haven't been here in a long time but it used to be my go to spot for breakfast! It was my dads favorite place and we would go pretty much every weekend. It can get busy so expect a 15-30 min wait on weekends. The food is normal diner food, not the best flavor in the world but always good enough for me. We never had an issue with any waiters we got and they were always super friendly.

I was ecstatic to have finally had the opportunity to dine here at this elegant establishment with the contemporary vibe and superb customer service! I loved my strawberry pancakes with whipped cream, scrambled eggs with American cheese, and my turkey sausage links! My cold apple juice was fresh and tasted wonderful. My friend and I had a great time there, yet though our female server was affable and efficient, she was slightly absent-minded; oblivious: She brought our beverages to our table but forgot to present us with straws. When my pancakes were ready, she placed them upon the table and walked away. She never gave me the syrup. Other than these insignificant issues, I loved this place and I enthusiastically recommend dining here at this clean diner in Woodbury, New Jersey!

My son and I went there in the evening and had one of the most horrible steak dinner and combination appetizer I've ever had in US history the ricotta cheese inside of fried raviolis was dry and,the steak had a horrible taste and needed not only A-1 sauce and ketch up also, I could go on but I Don't think I have enough space and the manager called the cops with thoughts that I would not pay the bill while I am there with my teenage son I had all intentions of paying however the manager was so insulted that I complained about the food that he call the cops and had a waiter barricade himself in front of the door as if I wasn't going to pay for it... I feel as though I was disrespected and insulted because I did not like the quality of their food good luck to whoever goes there

Had a breakfast meeting here this month. I was super excited they have vegan options. Next time I go I will definitely try the vegan options and hopefully update with 5 stars. Otherwise, it's a great diner.

Amazing Vegan friendly options. Came in and had the seitan fries which is a HUGE portion for 2+ people. I also indulged in their dairy-free blueberry banana pancakes which are by far the best vegan pancakes I've ever had. They tasted "like" buttermilk pancakes nice and fluffy, the bonus was I came on a weekend so it came with a Mimosa. Their coffee was nice and fresh. Portions are HUGE so def enough to take home or share with a special friend!!!! Unfortunately I'm not sharing my pancakes. LOL totally am coming again....

Great selection and very friendly staff, I needed help finding a specific beverage and didn't even need to ask for help! Someone saw me looking, asked if they could help me find something and ran to get it for me. Excellent visit! Only downside was prices were a little higher than other places in the area but not so much as to make a huge difference to me.

When people say 'diner,' this is what they are talking about. Diner food, diner waitresses, diner cooks, and diner quality. The only diner thing missing is the thick cloud of tobacco smoke formed by area high schoolers. #ahhnostaligia

This place was amazing, it was exactly what I needed after a long day. I ordered a monthly special and received a very generous portion of Cajun shrimp with two sides, a salad, a glass of wine and ice cream all for $14.50. The food was delicious, I inhaled it. Virginia, my server, was extremely attentive. I highly recommend, it is a great value and great good.

The Colonial has been a staple for me since my childhood. It is the source of many great memories of mine; sitting in a booth late at night with my friends, eating delicious snacks and bullshitting into the small hours of the night after a few drinks; sitting at the bar and ordering coffee and talking about nothing in particular until 3am. Their breakfasts are also legendary. I've visited so much, I don't think there is a time of day I haven't been in the diner. Truly a local staple.

Used to love this place. Came here at least once a week. It then went down hill, and I stopped coming here. Finally started coming again since they remodeled, and were taken over. It's now our favorite diner again. The food is always great, with exception of one time that I got fries that were either over cooked, or they were old and had been sitting too long. Otherwise, everything is always good. Great dessert selection. Maryanne is a great server. We always look forward to stopping here for the great atmosphere, food, and service.
