The Brighton Baths Cafe Review

This cafe wasn't serving long blacks this morning. In fact, they weren't serving much at all. I had to go and find someone to come and take my order, I was not presented a menu and my scrambled eggs on toast took an age to arrive. It's a lovely setting but they are under-staffed and poorly managed.

Ordered a seafood platter and asked for no onion or garlic as the people eating it are fructose intolerant. 90 minutes later, just as the rest of our tables food is about to be delivered, we were informed they couldn't really do the seafood without onion and garlic and we could order something different.
Didn't bother as we didn't trust them, they hadn't taken the onions off my entree's salad even though I'd asked.
There's a great view over the bay, but if you have any dietary requirements, perhaps just order a Leffe Blonde and watch the sunset, then eat elsewhere.

The food was absolutely horrible the service wasdisgusting and the pasta was inedible I will never come back what a horrible experience for me and my date

Oysters and beef cheek were amazing. Great atmosphere and views and they even made last minute accommodation for my wife's bday. Very good service and food, can't wait to go back.

Breakfast food is consistently cold, most likely pre-cooked. Serves are small and meals a basic. The only nice thing about this place is the view, which is such a shame because it evidently has huge potential. I gave 3 chances to not give cold eggs benedict before writing this review.

Great customer service, caters to many dietary requirements, outside seating with an amazing view of the beach!

Actually a beautiful place to dine & enjoy. The food was pretty delicious as well. However, when the idea behind a restaurant with a view is to see a fantastic view of the Melbourne skyline & bay, but the windows are literally so dirty you cannot see out seems pretty pointless & in turn doesn t feel like they take pride in the overall service/ ambiance. It s too bad and hope they correct this & keep it up.

There for a private function but the food, service and drinks were great, and the views are hard to match!

Nice view but Menu is fixed. Like if you were in McDonalds. There is no option to change even the slightest detail. Also staff is changing a lot, so you can end up with grumpy waiters. All staff is making a boogyman out of the chef, so forget about even aproching him. This is more fast food with a good view.

Sheltering from the rain today at the kiosk with our dogs, we asked for a coffee (where I have ordered, and recieved coffee before). We were informed, we had to sit in the outside cafe area to order coffee because the coffee machine was in that area, not this area. We explained as it was raining, could we please have one from the kiosk. We were again informed no because we had to go to the other side.
We left, laughing all the way back to our car in the pouring rain.
Not the usual service from this cafe.

The location is great but that is all.
Upon our arrival for breakfast we waited to be seated. We informed the female staff member that we would love to sit outside. Rather than take us to our table she pointed to the waterside outside balcony and told us to find somewhere on the right. Once seated, it came to our attention that every other customer was taken to their table and seated.
When our drinks order was taken I informed the male staff member that I'd love some table water for the table. Rather than bring over a carafe and glasses he pointed to a nearby water station and said for me to grab it myself (he was standing less than a meter from the water station). I grabbed the water and each of the glasses were grubby. The food was mediocre but perhaps the overall experience left a bad taste in my mouth. Some serious training in basic hospitality skills is required. I'll try somewhere else next time.

Went for lunch yesterday. Main course was small but delicious. Ordered dessert and coffee. Coffee arrived after 5 minutes, and dessert arrived 15-20 minutes after the coffee. When the waiter was challenged about this, he asked if we had asked for our dessert to come before or even with our coffee!!! One order goes to the bar and the other to the kitchen and they can't control how long either take! Then the 'supervisor' who didn't respond to our first request to speak to him, appeared after our second request and he came up with the same story. It was our fault..... No apology, no 'can we get your another coffee' , no change from $80.
Shame the management hasn't taught the staff that it costs nothing to say 'sorry' and probably 50c to make an extra coffee and retain goodwill.

Expensive parking, not easy to operate parking machine!!!

The quality of the food is very good but its a little pricey.

Fish and chips was ok but not great. Fab location on the beach.

Had lunch there 3/11/20. Not satisfied. Very greasy salad. Beef burgers and battered fish not tasty at all. Same goes for a milkshake and iced mocha. Toilets dirty. No toilet paper. No disability toilet. Disappointed

Decent spot with great view onto the enclosed swimming area. Good view back of the city and the dog beach. Reasonable food but somewhat slow service. Very popular

The Baths restaurant always delivers great meals at very reasonable prices. Well done kitchen staff.

Went here for Christmas lunch with my family. I had told them a couple of weeks in advance that my husband and I were both vegan and they said we would have our own entree, main and dessert as opposed to being able to choose from the set menu like everyone else (which we were fine with). However, on the day it was like they had no idea and had to make something up on the spot from small bits and pieces from the other dishes. Entree was basically a cut up tomato with oil. Main was actually quite yum but it would've been better as an entree and they said there was no dessert for us so we sat there feeling left out while we watched everyone else enjoy their 3rd course. They couldn't even whip up a simple fruit salad even though I know they had fruit in the kitchen they were using for cocktails. I know it's really not that hard, they were just super lazy and did not care about us at all. Not cool for the amount of money my grandma was paying for us and I highly doubt they charged her less for our meals. Very disappointing for a Melbourne restaurant in this day and age. Positive feedback is that the staff were mainly friendly and the service wasn't bad.

Always reliable for good food, good service and lovely setting.

Outstanding. Every dish was so tasty. My sister and I had the scallops, eye fillet and ganache dessert. Attentive but not overbearing service. Highly recommend.

This was such a welcome sight on a 40 degree day ,a bit pricey but excellent food with relaxing views.

Worst and most expensive fish and chips I've had. Fish was tough and did not taste fresh. Tasteless. Disappointing since we paid $22 for it. Staff were polite and friendly.

Busy cafe but we didn't have to wait long for our takeaway coffes.

Great location but worst iced coffee ever. Instant coffee with water and little ice cream. Not in Melbourne.

Prices in the restaurant were on the high side at $15 a glass of basic wine.... parking costs $5.60 an hour outside..
Food was o.k. & overpriced but service was pleasant and quick.
Didn't like the Visa slug at 1.75% plus GST at the end !!

Kid's size meals over cooked chips poor quality steak. When we walked in couldn't believe the awesome outlook over the bay, and the restaurant was nearly empty on a Saturday night... now we know why.

Love the baths and occasionally have a coffee here, very good.

Coffee was fine but staff was so apathetic we actually felt uncomfortable being there. Staff s attitude is the biggest reason we won t be going back there as we felt SO uneasy we left as soon as we finished our drinks and didn t even order any food. They also brought the wrong order the first time around as well, however service was quite quick given that the cafe was very busy. There were flies around (which they can t help but might be inconvenient for people ordering food as people on other tables were complaining about this). Tables also had bird poop on them! Overall the only +ve thing was that it s literally on the beach and the view is amazing.

Remote service which wasn't up to the ambience , and the food was not eaten as inedible. Lacked taste and texture.

Wonderful location. Food was OK, but not outstanding. My partner's whole fish was overcooked. My barramundi fillet was a small serving, although very pleasant.
One waitress was over-pushy... constantly trying to push us into ordering more than we wanted to (or could) eat. This became a little annoying after a while, but I think she eventually got the message.
We are not big eaters so we only planned to have a main and a dessert each. But the pushy waitress eventually convinced/annoyed/pressured us into ordering a chef's tasting plate... which was quite enjoyable.

BUT... as a result, after consuming our mains we had no appetite left for dessert... which I would have preferred to the entree platter that was forced upon us.
Oh well........

In fairness, another older waitress who also served us was extremely pleasant and understanding, and was a pleasure to deal with. I wish we had had her at the beginning upon our arrival and initial ordering.

Had a lovely brekky and coffee there on Sunday morning. Service a bit chaotic but probably standard for a beachside cafe when the suns out!

What a great evening with friends .Delicious food and fantastic sweeping views of Melbourne's skyline, the baths and the marina.

Can't beat the view and the business breakfast was good, food and speaker.

A really cool place to get a good meal (better than pub but won't break the bank) and look out over the ocean.

The burger was disappointing in both size, presentation and taste. A small frozen pattie in a dry bun with a few chips. Not worth the cost. I basically just paid for the view of the bay!

Went to the dog beach next to the baths. Brilliant!!! We travel ftom Boronia to take tge dogs. Safe and the dogs get on great

Worst fish & chips I've ever been fleased $24 for.
Blue grenadier is not my idea of a good choice for f&c, over all tasteless soggy garbage.
My daughter had pasta with red water and had to ask for parmesan!
Waitress was less than competent at doing much let alone service.
I'll not be back again.

At approx 5pm on 23rd/12/2018 I attended and had bragged to my friends on how good the location was only to be let down by a waitress(don't know her name / though had blonde hair)...she walked past my group on 3 occasions and served other people who came in after my group. Subsequently waved her in and mentioned that we had waited for her to serve us, to which she said, "oh you must have slipped in without me noticing" . The place has a nice vibe, the prices ain't cheap, however, food is , service from this one waitress made me feel uncomfortable and I personally wanted to leave. Arvo carried on and Consequently would not recommend this place to anyone anymore. I hope the manager reads this

Nice spot for a coffee on a beautiful day, but expensive; $10 for a coffee and a muffin a bit steep!

Food was plain and bland, coffee was terrible, furthermore we came and sat outside to enjoy our breakfast with our 3 month old son but it was extremely sunny so we asked if the sun shade above us could be opened but the ride gentlemen in charge told me that he wouldn t open it as they wanted to keep sun on the front deck for other customers (even though we were the only people actually sitting in the sun) I Wouldn t recommend this overpriced sub par cafe to anybody. Better off going down the road to the Brighton Yacht club

Will definitely not go back! Food was super bland boring and just not worth $$$. Coffee was really weak and service was not friendly! Will go to the yacht club next door for sure...very disappointing to come down for the morning and not enjoy a nice meal...

Burgers wed had were OK but overpriced. Service was lousy... th he staff pretty much ignore you. Its all about the location.

I can t believe that the smoothies are ten dollars and premade. Who puts ice in a smoothie. Also, you pre poach the eggs?! No wonder the yolks are cold. You charge 15% extra on public holidays and do not give any of that money to the waitstaff. Food was over priced and clearly understaffed.
